I bought my phone off of Amazon and was led to believe that it was ALREADY UNLOCKED. I wanted an unlocked phone because I wanted a decent phone on a cheap pre-paid plan because I dont require the best of the best when it comes to phone service so I wanted to try out Mint Mobile. Long story short.....Phone isn't unlocked, I don't feel like going through the process of returning it, now I need to unlock it. Any help is appreciated.:fingers-crossed:

Hey guys I've asked this in some thread before but never got an answer. I live in Canada and was thinking of telling my friend who's in the US right now to get me a contract free HD7 from tmobile so I can unlock it and then use it here. So I just want to know if it's a 100% sure thing that the phone can be unlocked before I buy it since I won't be able to return it in case it can't be unlocked. I don't want to end up with a 500$ paperweight since I've read that some people couldn't unlock theirs.
Because if it's not a sure thing, I guess I'll be getting the optimus 7..
Thanks!
T-Mobile will give the unlock codes after you've been a customer for a certain period of time. The length of that period and what happens to it when you've bought the phone at the unsubsidized price are somewhat variable and honestly I would not rely on this happening if you are not a T-Mobile customer.
However www.htcimeiunlock.com will probably be able to unlock the phone; I personally unlocked an HD7 in 15 minutes with their service. Bring a laptop or something and check the IMEI right in the TMOUS store before completing the purchase -- the site will tell you definitively whether it has the code for your specific device.
Like I said I'm not personally going there. My not-so-tech-savvy friend is so I can't ask him to do that. But do u think that eventually after a certain period of time that ALL htc phones' unlock codes will be available or are some just never unlockable?

It's almost certain that it will be available now. And if not, it will be soon enough. I wouldn't worry about it. Worst case scenario is that you have your not so tech savvy friend call tmobile and get the code for you. It shouldn't even come to that though.
I am having trouble getting my HD7 unlocked. I tried www.htcimeiunlock.com and it does not recognize my IMEI. I'm trying to get it unlocked at a different website and they have to contact HTC directly to get the unlock code.
Hi...
I bought one from T-mobile and he told me after 45 days I can call him to give me the unlock code.... But I couldn't wait and I used this website cellunlocker.net to unlock my device and it's working without any problem....Thanks!!!
I also ordered an unlock from Cellunlock.net last week.. Still waiting on a code for my HD7. Apparently HTC is way behind on providing codes to the unlockers for newer batches of phones. Getting annoyed either way, I have this HD7 in Toronto that I can't use.
It's a sure thing as I am using a T-Mobile HTC HD7 on FIDO, so the phone is unlocked. I'll sell you mine if you are in Toronto. T-Mobile phones are different band so you can only get Edge data through it. Kind of sucks if you are use to 3G speed. If you are going to use the phone on Wind then it's same band and you will get high speed data. Anyway it is possible to unlock - I've been using the phone on FIDO for almost 3 weeks now.
I have used www.cellunlocker.net to successfully unlock two of my HD7's. Codes came via email within 30 mins, both times.
I am going to get a z1 this week.
As you guys know, Sony has this bad habit of permanently locking the bootloader on their phones.(bootloader unlock allowed=no in service menu)
Obviously,I dont want a permanently bootloader locked one.
So, why does Sony do it?
And more importantly, is there a pattern to the locking or is it just some random-get lucky kinda thing where some miserable ass at the Sony factory randomly does this to get back at the world?
What should I do to make sure that I don't get a Bootloader Unlock Allowed=No version of the phone.
Im buying online from eBay so i cant check myself and the sellers wont do it as they don't want to open the seal
Is there any way to circumvent the lock / load non-signed kernels after boot?
You can only be sure if you buy one on amazon, directly from amazon. I have one from marketplace amazon and mine is permantly locked. If you buy one from ebay go sure that it have no sim lock and that you can give it back on first 14-days, so you can give it back, if it is permantly locked.
well you dont get that good of discounts from amazon. ebay sellers sell it real cheap and we can use coupons on ebay.
well i finally got someone who has opened the box. i might have to pay a little bit more(more than a little!) for it but its still worth it considering that it is the c6903 4g version which is not available here(we only have the c6902)
Thanks for the reply dude
I bought my Xperia Z1 from my carrier. Right now it says that I can't unlock the bootloader. The thing is, I've been looking for way to unlock it anyway. I've been seeing people saying different things about how to unlock it. I just way something clarified, though: is the bootloader somehow tied to the carrier or the SIM card? Can I unlock it by buying the SIM unlock key from my carrier?
I really need to find out if I can salvage this phone I purchased from an aquaintance. A few days after purchasing this phone I then purchased a Family Plan Sim Card from Walmart. I then went to install it and the comment thay my phone flashed back at me was locked network on this phone and that the sim was the incorrect one. So I called ATT and was told to call back and see about a unlock code. I wanna know asap if possible if Im wasting my time to use this phone or if I can switch sims how please how!!?

They have a website to request unlock codes.
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
That is how I unlocked my phone after it was out of contract with them.
The account holder of my phone (work) decided to shut off the phone. I still own the thing as I paid for it outright, but the service is no longer active.
Anyways... My phone is still rooted with the original OE2 or whatever it was, I never moved off of it.
Unfortunately, I cant find anything out there on unlocking the phone to use on another carrier without paying for it. Since the phone is still rooted, is there a FREE way to unlock this thing? Thanks.
Nothing free about that.
Contact the carrier? If you purchased it outright they should have no problem unlocking it for you. That's how I've unlocked two of my phones in the past.
I bought a sprint device used after putting in my cricket SIM and it worked fine. After buying it I noticed that it didn't pass the financial eligibility check. Device works well except for the securitylogagent prompts to restart and it won't except updates to firmware.
I've tried flashing unlocked firmware with Odin and it fails. I also can't get the phone to work with cricket visual voicemail.
I don't know what someone has done with this phone. It doesn't appear rooted, but how does one get it unlocked for other sim cards if there's a financial obligation with Sprint....and how can I "fix" the firmware?
It sounds like they sold you a phone that they didn't pay off. I would try to contact the person that sold you the phone and try and get your money back, or have them pay the phone off. It just sounds like a headache to try and resolve.
Probably they bought it with hire purchase and stopped payment, if they dont help you, you can ask for police or any authorized service because it is scamming. You cant sell a phone nor an item which has financial restrictions, at least it is like that in here
If this were a GSM phone, one could pay to have it unlocked.
Just curious how someone was able to hack into a sprint device to get other carriers to work. I didn't think that was possible. Heck, I've bought an HTC sprint phone before that I didn't call and check it was basically a brick. Ended up selling it for someone to game on. Lesson Learned, just feel like there's gotta be a way to salvage it.
