How to change background during call? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

After upgrading my Xiaomi K20 Pro to MIUI 12, the background screen during calls is completely black. I would greatly appreciate if someone can give me a piece of advice on how to change that setting without using any third-party applications from Google PlayStore.
I've included an example in attachment.
Thank you

Any news regarding this, guys?

Thank you for the advice. Anyway, when I was searching " profile video for incoming calls " (as suggested), I did not get any option to change the background for the outgoing/incoming calls.
Please check the screenshot in the attachment.
I would really appreciate if you can help me further with this.

No such thing as "profile video for incoming calls" in sounds and vibration. Kindly check the attachments.
I must mention again, when I was using MIUI 11 everything was ok, after upgrading to MIUI 12 (12.0.2.0), the background screen druing calls is completely black.

I appreciate the effort, but the link you've recommended is for MIUI 11, while my K20 Pro is currently on MIUI 12 (12.0.2.0), so there is no "Profile Videos for Incoming Calls" option within Sound & Vibration submenu.

Are you on the Indian version of MIUI 12? I was on the Indian version of MIUI 12 when I bought my k20 pro couple of weeks ago. and I flashed EU rom and I now have access to the profile video setting. When I was on stock (Indian) version, I wasn't specifically looking for this setting but I am pretty sure it wasn't there so it might be the case cuz you are referencing that you are on 12.0.2.0 and I guess that is the latest version available in India (you can confirm if you look at the version for you it should say something like 12.0.2.0 QFKINXM, IN in the middle suggesting it being the Indian version, even though it might also say global too as mine it). Also, I could be wrong in assuming you are on the Indian version or something. I just looked at your version number and this thing kept popping up in my mind.

So you see it says its global version but its not. I don't know why it is so. You are on the Indian version of the rom (the IN in the build number indicates this, I have attached a screenshot of my phone which was on Indian version but is on EU version now (and as I have flashed the EU version of the rom, my device name has been changed to 9T pro (which is the k20 pro sold globally, no difference except it has NFC and different ROMs flashed)), and it says CN instead of IN because as EU version is based on the china version of MIUI 12, it says CN, there also an another Europe version I guess, I have seen it on some phones, that says EU instead, I think that is the global version I guess). My point being anyway is that the IN version doesn't have the feature you are looking for.

yes the global stable if you click on the miui version and then click on what's new u will find it is 12.0.2.0 QFKINXM, IN in the middle suggesting it being the Indian version, even though it might also say global too as mine it). so there is no function for profile video calling on Indian rom

Of course, you can flash the EU version on your k20 pro. Don't need root to do that but you do require a custom recovery may it be twrp or orangefox which I am using or pitchblack (tbh all are twrp modified). Go on youtube you can find many tutorials on doing this. (search k20 pro miui EU install or something similar). Be warned though your warranty will be void, you will lose your data (take a backup) and your phone might get bricked. Also install the stable EU version which I think is the 12.0.3.0, Link for stable miui 12 EU 12.0.3.0 . The stable build is quite stable.

[SOLVED] NO NFC on Redmi K20 PRO

Hello XDA Developers,
Any help needed, pleeaase.!
Probably I'm doing something wrong, or there is serious problem with my phone - no NFC. Not sure if it is ROM related or related to the phone itself.
Any help, troubleshooting, workarounds, mods will be really appreciated.
FYI: I Did not change the ROM, was the original with the phone, see details bellow:
Phone Tester says following:
No NFC support
This is what Phone Tester says about the ROM:
Model: Redmi K20 PRO
Device: raphaelin
OS Release: 9 - Pie
OS Build: PKQ1.181121.001
Firmware: V10.3.1.0.PFKINXM
Bought on AlieExpress, Seller: mi global store
(don't mix up with another seller XIAOMI mi store)
Update:
At the end and thanks to XDA Developerz I changed the ROM with TWRP and xiaomi.eu version. It fixed the issue. Now I have good ROM with TWRP recovery!
I'm not sure what that company did but here's what shows up for me.

Hello, Did you get your phone with Developer ROM, or already preinstalled Global ROM?
and also what Phone Tester says which CPU you have?
My Phone Tester says I have Qualcomm Technologies Inc SM8150
Also if you go to Phone Settings -> About the phone I have this:
Model number Redmi K20 Pro
Model Name M1903F11A
Kernel version: 4.14.83-perf-gf578f07
What are yours?

raphaelin is the device name of the Indian version of the K20 Pro. This hasn't been released yet, so there shouldn't be any official ROM's with that device name. This suggests that it isn't an official ROM. Did you buy it with a pre-installed global ROM?

Yes, I did. However what I found from 954wrecker is that he is is using Firmware V10.3.11.0 mine is 10.3.1.0

I know nothing about hardware bus scanners, however it would be recommended to install another ROM from a legitimate source. Your phone will most likely be unlocked already. The xiaomi.eu developer ROM 9.6.27 has had a few people say that it's stable. I'm still waiting to be able to unlock the bootloader, so haven't tried it myself yet.
Thanks guys, you almost convince me that it is a ROM issue. My phone is unlocked, which is obviously very good news.
Now, the question where to get the FULL ROM, and not the updates. I'm on V10.3.1.0, some people have 10.3.11.0 here.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
I'm guessing you want a global ROM, so it's the xiaomi.eu ROMs, these are listed under EU. Looking on the forums there seems to be an audio issue with the latest stable release.
Please flash xiaomi.eu firmware k20 pro supports NFC and it works well.

Thanks to everyone. At the end I flashed xiaomi.eu 10.3.12 and it fixed the issue.
I have the same issue.
Received my k20 pro yesterday and spent hours and hours to configure it properly (tons of apps and settings)
But no NFC...
Rom MIUI GLOBAL 10.3.1. 1
is there a way to update firmware without erasing everything??
Thank you

Good question! Not sure, better to ask not in this thread, but in separate thread will be much faster response. Are you planning to install TWRP? Because if you plan to do so, ask how you can try to do this with TWRP.
I can confirm that xiaomi.eu 10.3.12 fixed my issue with NFC and also I can tell that 10.3.9 chinese rom does not have issue with NFC either (why Chinese ROM you may ask? - because it is full image ROM, and initially I made mistake with TWRP did not decrypt the filesystem, I did not know the password at the that time which was my PIN, so I flashed it twice) Avoiding my mistake you can go directly to xiaomi.eu 10.3.12 with TWRP.

No NFC on global ROM ?

I have the K20 pro, MIUI global 11.0.3 stable (11.0.3 QFKINXM) and for some reason there is no NFC option on my phone.
Is there any other official ROM that I can install that have call recorder and NFC?
It's super important for me to have the call recorder built in as I have at the moment.
Tnx for the help
I'm surprised you have the call recording feature--I've never had that available on the official Global ROM of any Xiaomi phone--although it's possible that feature is available or not based on the region you choose at set up.
You don't have an NFC option under connections and sharing?
It's there on the Global ROM on my phone.
Once again 'global' ROM causes confusion.
Depending on how you look at it, there is either 1 global ROM or 4 global ROMs.
For any ROM that is not Chinese, you will notice that it is referred to as global MIUI in the about phone settings page.
However there are 4 different ROMs that are labelled this way.
Indian
European
Russian
Global
The Indian phone does not have NFC hardware, therefore NFC is disabled in the Indian ROM. You have an Indian ROM installed on your phone.
The European, Russian and Global ROMs all come with the Google dialer app, which does not allow call recording.
If you want non-Chinese MIUI, with working NFC and the MIUI dialer app that allows call recording, then I believe your only option is the xiaomi.eu ROM.

Prior to the Android 10 update on the MI 9T Pro the Global ROMs on every Xiaomi phone I have ever owned had the Xiaomi Dialer and Messaging apps--Xiaomi put out a press release less than two weeks ago confirming the switch to the Google Dialer and Messaging apps on the Global ROMs.
I'm not sure why the OP would be running an official Xiaomi ROM that doesn't correspond to the hardware on his phone.

We're not talking about previous phones, we're talking about the Mi 9T Pro, which has the Google dialer and messaging apps, and has had them since its release.
Only the K20 Pro (both regions) came with the Xiaomi dialer and messaging apps.
All we know is that the OP has a K20 Pro. They may have the Indian version, in which case they have the correct MIUI ROM. Otherwise, they obviously don't want to live with the Chinese MIUI ROM.

Head to www.xiaomi.eu site and from the menu bar on left. You have two options. 1.Stable roms are not updated very frequently and are with lesser to zero bugs. 2. Weekly developer roms if you want to experience new features early but may have bugs.
Before flashing a .eu rom you will have to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery. You will find all the related info and procedures in XDA development threads.

@fernoct much appreciated your help and the answer
I have a K20 Pro Premium Edition. Currently, there is only the China ROM available for the Premium Edition.
I was able to flash the K20 Pro Global ROM on it, then I discovered it doesn't have call recording (which I need). So then I flashed the K20 Pro Indian ROM on it and it has call recording, but missing Dual GPS and NFC. The mobile signal strength seems to be weaker as well, compared to when I was on the K20 Pro Premium Edition China ROM.
I know there are recording apps out there, but I prefer to run the native call recording if possible. The main problem for me is the signal strength on the Indian ROM. It sucks and I'm wondering if flashing a different region firmware will fix this? Can someone confirm?

Miui Global Rom in K20 Pro indian version

i have k20pro indian version and latest 12.0.1 miui but i want to flash global version of miui into my device because of navigation pill and some more features like animation.
if some one here can help me with the procedure and also can confirm that will there gonna be some consequences in daily usage and call recording gonna work or not(by internal feature or any third party app).
if i did so than i will be able to receive future ota?
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
On global, you won't get miui dialer and sms. So no call recording. Also if you want to continue, you'll first need to unlock your bootloader and then flash the global rom.
Should bootloader be unlocked and twrp installed or just bootloader needs to unlocked and after that it can be updated through stock recovery in future ??

Hi bro.. can you please share the steps you followed?? Also do all the things work??
I have already tried, these are steps (*do it on your own risk)
1. Download global stable fastboot rom zip of 9T Pro
2. Use Mi Flash tool to flash it
3. It gives error on bootloader lock status but phone successfully boots into global stable.
Here are my observation from 2 days of usage.
1. No MIUI dialer, contact, sms app and instead they use google provided apps in global. Record call works, there is additional page of action menu once you are in call. I lost my all sms's from mi cloud in this process, though i have backup from another app to restore.
2. Animations are smooth compared to K20 Pro and that is because of stock mi launcher. The POCO launcher on Indian version misses out most of the new animations.
3. No HD support in prime video in global . Working fine in Indian stable.
4. Debloating is not working on both roms as of now. I tried from adb tool.
5. Clone mode available in camera app of global.
6. Geekbench single core score is more in indian rom compared to global. Overall smoothness is improved compared to MIUI 11.
7. Auto brightness is bad on both roms now compared to 11.0.6.0 of Indian version.
8. Call reception (idea) is bad on global compared with indian rom. Jio VOLTE is fine on both.
After using global for 2 days, I have reverted to Indian stable because of the HD video support and call quality issues. I would suggest to use MIUI EU roms to get all features of china rom and debloated apps.

Question Mi 11 ultra - xiaomi.eu or global rom?

Xiaomi EU is overstimated, it may be good for west people who wants a debloated and translated china rom with Google services, but Global Rom is much better and also is faster

I didn't try myself the China ROM but I read it is more performing than the Xiaomi EU as well as Global and EEA stock ROMs
When I got my Mi 11 Ultra I started the process to unlock it right away since it uses the Chinese rom. However, by the time it was ready to be unlocked I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. The Chinese rom with the Google playstore installed does everything I need it to do. I don't really see any reason to change to the global or eu rom so far.

The Global Indian (IN) ROM is smaller in size as compared to the Global (IM) ROM and they are pretty much identical.
The IN ROM though has the Red Dot notification light displayed in the Rear Display when there is any notification.

Edit:
So this option is available in the Global MI Rom but you may also have to enable another setting which might not be 'enabled' by default.
Notification Access > Rear Display > Allow Notification Access
A regular notification option is available but it is pretty limited. I think it is for Spotify integration (music control) and Answering the Phone.

Quite content with the Global MI ROM
By IN ROM you mean Indian? Because the standard Global is easily rootable
Chinese rom is the best one. 120Hz everywhere.
Latest patches latest updates but no Ok google and no android auto. (At least in old versions of software)
I didn’t like global rom because many apps including YouTube is not working at 120hz.
Obviously China ROM is more updated and more refined,

1. MiUi dialler & Contacts - Didn't like it. Prefer Google
2. MiUi power down screen - Didn't like it. Still prefer Global ROM screen.
3. Google Assistant didn't work from lockscreen. It has to be running in the background for it to work from lockscreen (fingerprint protected)
The CN ROM does have some extra neat animations (like Battery Charging animations) which I would look to have. But I can do without it.
In Global MI ROM, Google Assistant is a system app I guess. So it's in the background by default? It works well from lockscreen.
Red dot notification in rear display works on Global MI ROM but doesn't work on the CN ROM. The Xiaomi.eu's (CN) ROM.

I would love to test video. I don't quite know how to check the Hz. Honestly I haven't tested my phone yet.
How do you check how many Hz when watching YouTube?

IN as in Indian yes
IN ROM latest fastboot ROM is v12.0.2.0 and then OTA update to v12.5.2.0.
I didn't know if I would lose root so I thought Global MI ROM is better. Lot more fastboot ROM releases and perhaps some added features looking at the version number and size of the MI fastboot Rom.
I need a Chinese ROM without the Chinese programs only
Because I want to record the call without sound

There should be many workaround for recording calls if you search
Xiaomi.eu all day. Faster updates, more tweaks and features over both stock CN and global. I immediately went Xiaomi.eu and haven't looked back.

Question Can I flash Redmi Note 11 running MIUI 13 Global RGCINXM with Indonesian RGKIDXM?

Hi all, I have recently purchased a Redmi Note 11 in India running MIUI 13 Global (RGCINXM). This ROM comes with a google dialer and I would like to revert to MI Dialer. I have flashed one of my older phones successfully with an Indonesian version to get back the MI dialer, however in that case, the ROM names were similar except for the country code (RGCxxXM for example).
I can't seem to find the exact same Indonesian ROM for my Redmi note 11 and wanted to check with the others if it would be safe to flash with the Indonesian NFC variant (RGKIDXM) to replace my current ROM (RGCINXM).
Could anyone please share their experiences?
Many Thanks.

According to the type of your rom your phone would be a redmi note 10 11 spes, models 2201117TG, 2201117TI, 2201117TL.
Could you confirm?
(characteristics/model).

Thanks for your prompt response.
The phone is a Redmi Note 11 2201117TI. Not sure why would you narrow it down to a redmi note 10. Perhaps different model names in different geographical areas?
Picture from box attached.
Many Thanks.

I wrote 10 but it's actually 11.
Don't bother with stock roms, install a Xiaomi EU rom that has the call recorder+playstore certified without root .
See here.

Thanks much. I was actually preferring to stick with stock ROM and not root the phone. If I were to stick with stock, would you or anyone recommend going for the NFC ROM from Indonesia (RGKIDXM)? I saw a couple of YouTube videos doing so, but wanted to make sure it wouldn't make things too messy.

The rom that I recommend does not require root
.
For the Indonesian rom no choice.
The bootloader must be unlocked(erase your data).
https://new.c.mi.com/global/post/101245
https://en.miui.com/unlock/index.html
then after 168 hours
Use this tool (read carefully, erase your data).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do a backup with Micloud.
With Indonesian rom you will have to lock the bootloader with Miflash otherwise the play store will not be certified, which is not the case with the Xiaomi Eu rom.

Thanks, just read carefully. Makes sense to flash with the Xiaomi EU ROM that you suggested. Just a couple of quick questions. Given that these are third party, are they secure to use?
And I read that these are based on MIUI China ROM. So hopefully there won't be any issues with Play store?
And last question, if I were to flash with the stock Indonesian ROM, can I replace the RGCxxxxx (non NFC) verison with RGKxxxxx (NFC) version?
Thanks for your help again!

So ,you have a branded phone(Verizon).
Start by flashing a global rom (same if you install a Xiaomi Eu rom) without locking the bootloader with Miflash then the Indonesian rom by locking.
