Hello,
All my messengers(whatsapp, hangouts, etc) allow me to change message sound to vibrate.
I cannot do this with Facebook messenger, for some reason. I think its
messenger/settings/notifications and sounds/manage notifications/chats and calls/sound - change to silent
I think it's that, but it won't save permanently those preferences
Any ideas how to completely disable the sound notifications in Facebook messenger? I prefer just to switch it to vibrate.
Hi
Try going to Messenger app info and select notifications and then change notification sound to silent.
That may help but i am not sure because i rarely use messenger.

As you all know in Android Setting I can choose the predefined tones fir ringer and notification. This way for every messaging app (whatsapp, gmail, email, hangouts, facebook, etc.) in the app setting, under tone settings, I can choose PREDEFINED and use the tone chisen in Android Setting. The exception to this is the Sony Messaging apo, where under tones I can chioose among none or many other tones, but no predefined ootion.
Anyone else? A solution?
I set my phone to vibrate and it does vibrate for calls, but not for text messages (using Google Messenger text app). Any ideas?
Seems like it may be a problem with Google apps. Messenger and Hangouts wouldn't vibrate, but stock Messaging and Textra apps vibrate.
Is there a way to have a different Messages notification tone than the default notification tone?
Many thanks!
Same question! I can't even change sound notifications from gmail and google allo?
Same for Twitter lol
Having the same .. would like to have different sound notifications in gmail and messages. I seem to be able to do it in WhatsApp, but everywhere else it use system default sound
It is extremely extremely annoying. To solve this, I am using Textra instead of stock messages. You might like it and it has , of course, the option of changing the sound. I wouldnt even consider that a 2018 flagship doesnt have that option...

You can change the notification sounds in Gmail. I have three email accounts setup in the Gmail app.
Goto:-
- Gmail settings
- General settings
- Manage notifications
- Click the text area that says 'Normal: Allow these notifications to make sounds' (not the button)
- Sound
Thanks, havent found that before
When trying to set notification sound from Facebook Messenger app, I get access only to sounds provided by the app and not also to the Android system sounds, so I cannot set the default sound I chose from phone settings.

I don't think you can change it to anything other than what the app provides
I have been using a Note 9 for about a year or so. I have a non-samsung SMS app (Chomp SMS) and WhatsApp both configured to emit notification sounds in addition to vibrate. I also have other apps that emit notification sounds.
In the last few weeks, something has changed, and now both my SMS app and WhatsApp only vibrate on messages. I have carefully checked the configuration of both apps, and they clearly show that they are configured to emit particular sounds for notifications. I can even verify what the notification sounds like in their settings pages. I have tried changing the default sms app back to the Samsung Messages app, and that has no problem emitting sounds for notifications. I have heard notification sounds from other apps, but it's hard to tell for certain whether any other apps are also having this problem. I emphasize again that this is happening both for SMS and for WhatsApp. I obviously don't have a "Samsung WhatsApp" to compare with, but for some reason the Samsung Messages app has no problem. I also tried switching back to Chomp after verifying that Messages works, but it still doesn't emit sounds. I have tried rebooting the phone. No difference.
