Pixel 4 XL 10.0.0 (QQ1B.200105.004) Update - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Device: Pixel 4 XL 10.0.0 (QQ1B.200105.004)
Carrier: ATT
Purchased: Unlocked @ Best Buy
It's been many years since I used my XDA account but I've been a little nervous about the update roll outs for my device.
I was getting pretty frequent updates up until January 2020. I see that on Google's official firmware page, this lines up with what has been released.
I guess my question would be: Have updates for this specific variant of the Pixel stopped because of Covid or did I make a mistake by purchasing it at a brick and mortar and not online?

No updates haven't stopped and the last factory image on their official page is for the August 2020 security update. Same goes for the factory OTA page.
https://developers.google.com/android/images#coral
You should still be able to update whether or not you bought it directly from Google or from Best Buy.

Do you know why some variants, i.e. my own are updated to the January edition (as seen in the Official Firmware Download Page by the Jan 2020 marking) while others have Feb, June, July?
Thank you for your time

I don't really understand. The official page lists August as the last update (as can be seen in the link I gave you). That is for all Pixel 4 XLs.

There may be a slight misunderstanding. In the screenshot you provided, it is true that it shows Aug on the last line. That Pixel 4 XL Variant is the Google Play Store version (QQ3A) That is not the Pixel 4 XL Variant I have.
A direct example from your screenshot would be
Line 1 where it states the variant related to "All Carriers Except ATT" Which has the March Update
Line 4 is also a Pixel 4 variant that has "TW Carriers" which has the May Update
A better example of Pixel 4 XL with different variants would be here: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/24852169?hl=en
I am just going to assume that my variant QQ1B.200105.004 which still only has the January release will be updated eventually

The August update is for all Pixel 4 XLs. Once in a while Google will put out a separate update for different carriers but if you see only 1 update in a month that means it is for all Pixel 4 XLs unless otherwise noted.
The "variant" number you speak of is not a specific model variant but rather just the number assigned to that month's update. You can safely update to the August patch as it is for all Pixel 4 XLs.

No. Your phone should be on the August update. There is an update every single month. That August image is "global" meaning there was only one and it works with every P4XL. Download and (dirty) flash the AUGUST image, or just wait until Monday the 7th for the September image. Dirty means editing the flash-all bat with notepad to remove the -w (wipe) flag so it preserves your data. Many people who just wait for their phone to catch an OTA update can get stuck on an old update. Many times a one time manual update via fastboot gets the phone unstuck and it will OTA normally again. Just follow the directions on the image download page and make SURE you are using the latest adb/fastboot binaries... v30.0.4 (July 2020)

it seems dodgy, 3.2.4 also has july security patches, so i guess 3.2.5 should have atleast had august or september patches.

I don't see why you think it seems dodgy? 3.2.4 was compiled on 06-Aug but only includes July Google patches. This new 3.2.5 was compiled 17-Aug so no surprise at all it is just a small incremental build on the same 3.2.4.
If I was making a new build I would include all current official security patches but this is OnePlus we are talking about.

Well for that matter, there is no whatsoever mention of 3.2.5 update anywhere on internet. It could be the update was region specific but still i havent heard or read literally nothing about this update, so i have my doubts.

It was the same with OxygenOS 3.1.3 which was available through a chinese OP forum.
Some devices came running this version out of the box although they never pushed an OTA for it for the rest of us.
I also got my phone today and it's running on 3.2.5
i believe that the 3.2.5 version is the same as 3.2.4 after applying the incremental OTA through system update but when we (3.2.4) apply OTA, it doesn't update build.prop file, witch is where that info is stored.
just that.

3.2.4 had received an OTA update last week (as far as i remember).
This OTA should be the same as the new phones with 3.2.5 that's why there's no information :laugh:
New phones should be delivered with that OTA already installed and with build.prop as 3.2.5

There is no OTA after 3.2.4. Last week's OTA was for community build, which is different from stable version.

Is there some specific bug you want us with this version to check out? I think I've read about some problem with the alarm only waken up the screen but no sound. For me it works as it should, tested this morning after five hours sleep.

OxygenOS 5.0.4 for the OnePlus 3 & 3T Released

Hi everyone,
We are starting to push the incremental roll-out of OxygenOS 5.0.4 for the OnePlus 3 & 3T.
Changelog:
System
Updated Android security patch to 2018.7
Camera
Improved image quality for the front camera
Fixed manual ISO setting issue of 3rd party camera apps
Third-Party Apps
Fixed parallel WhatsApp crash issue
Fixed front camera zoom-in issues for Snapchat
For those who were on previous versions for OnePlus 3 and 3T, we appreciate your active feedback and attempts to reach out to us. With your help, we have been able to better optimize and improve several key areas. Thank you for your patience and as always, we look forward to hearing your continued feedback in the bug reporting forum here: https://forums.oneplus.com/feedback/.
This OTA will have a staggered rollout, the OTA will be received by a limited number of users today and will have a broader rollout in a few days after making sure there are no critical bugs, so using VPN to download this build might not work as the rollout Is not based on regions and is randomly pushed out to a limited number of devices.
we will update the download link after the global rollout for our open Beta users to migrate from open beta to 5.0.4 build, this will require a clean install (complete cache and data wipe)
Your feedback is appreciated. We may not always be able to respond to every comment in the forums, but please be assured that we take your comments and feedback seriously. Hope you enjoy and let us know how you feel about the update in the comments below.
Note / 5.0.4 has July 2018 security patch, the setting incorrectly reflects security patch as June due to an incorrect string (typo)
Never Settle.

just wanted to add, several other reports claim that the security patch is not just a typo as OnePlus claims...(can't confirm that yet), but if that's true, they might pull this update before it reaches more people.
we'll see.
OnePlus affirms it has the correct patch, and it's just missing the correct "naming".

not yet, and i think there will different download link for those previously on beta.... as mentioned on the OP it's a staggered update, so it may come soon if someone that receives it captures the download link and upload it somewhere else, or it may take a couple of days until OnePlus pushes it globally.

X4 model? Android version?
If you have the XT1900-1 retus you can flash the android one version that is currently on Android 8.1 and then OTA to the Aug security patch.
AndroidOne OPW28.3 firmware
I have the xt1900-1 on android 8.0 and December 2017 security patch. What if my device isn't an Android one phone though.

As long as you're XT1900-1 retus you can flash the amazon, android one, or moto retail firmware as you see fit.
There are some small differences you can read about them here: https://www.droid-life.com/2017/11/13/moto-x4-review-regular-vs-android-one/
They are all very similar but the AndroidOne version gets updates the fastest because they are managed by Google and not Lenovo/Motorola. The link to the AndroidOne firmware will give you 8.1 with June patch. You can take the next two OTA's to the Aug patch.
I took the plunge to Android 9 (LineageOS 16) and so far it's great.

What would flashing to 8.1 gain me.
Isn't 8.1 sort of buggy?

I don't know why OTA's would be held back. I assume the manual check for updates does nothing then. Some people have tried things as simple as removing the sim card and checking for updates, or even factory resets. I don't know if either would do anything. I had the July OTA held until the Aug one came out and I took both at the same time. Never knew why the July one was never offered.
8.1 is not buggy. It had a problem with adb over usb when it first came out but that was long ago. It's stable. Flashing 8.1 gets you up to the Aug security patch. Otherwise the Moto Retail is 8.0 and only on the June patch. I don't know what the Amazon version is up to but I'm guessing it's the same as the Moto retail.

It's the hardware that determines, I installed Android One on my phone once, the software channel remained unchanged.
For your phone you search at androidfilehost.com for the Motorola Firmware Team profile, you can install the ROMs that doesn't have amz on the name, I suggest you to install, if you'll install, the latest one, just look at the name.
AMZ stands for Amazon
Fi is for Android One version
The other is retail.

I'm not sure if they ever got changing software channel down, but if they did I'm almost certain you'd need root, like others have said best bet is to find the proper factory firmware for your device.

P20 Pro 9.0 update? (Canada)

Has anyone got the update
No
No and the word from Huawei Canada support is there is no guarantee our version of the P20 Pro will get it.
Still haven't received any security updates since Sept update (8.1.0.120) on my CLT-L04 C792
Same here, have September 1, 2018 update... 8.1.0.120 with EMUI 8.1. From what I'm reading, seems to be around December 10, give or take a few days.
Honestly its going to take forever for these carriers to test and approve it. I would hedge my bets on January maybe February for the pie update.
What I did was rebrand my p20 pro (does cost a little money around 70-80$ cad) to CLT-L09 and on the November security patch if good software matters to you id spend the money, even though it is stupid to have to essentially pay to have access to the latest software.

I agree. Keep hearing people say they've heard/read starting Dec 10th or Dec 22nd etc.. but they can never provide any proof to back it up. It'll be next year I'm afraid fellas.
C605 have new update 9.0.0.161
Las beta was 9.0.0.112..i think is the final version
I did buy my P20 Pro from Hong Kong, not sure if that will make any difference?
Definitely. Mine is the CLT-L04 model which is intended for North America, including Canada, Mexico, and the U.S., not Hong Kong.

I thought about this but honestly I got extremely confused with the different rebranding versions out there. Can you tell me exactly what you rebranded to? Did you keep the region at C792 or change it to C432? And just out of curiosity why L09 and not L29? I thought L29 was the European version? Or am I just even more confused than I thought lol.

Haven't used this before - did a full download of the OTA package with no idea how to rename to install. Having said that I did run the firmware availability and it said that the firmware is not approved which I'm assuming means I'm going to get an error during the update. Probably because I'm still on locked bootloader it's looking for the carrier branded one.....?

I think we still need to wait a little more to see an OTA.
What provider is it ? And I don't know if we have differents build depending of the carrier.
Is the kernel the exact same version on your phone right now ?

Yup same Kernel. Running 8.1.0.120 C792 with Koodo/Telus. Just had a chat with Ministry of Solutions he said $70 to provide bootloader unlock code and rebrand but I can do everything myself honestly with just the bootloader unlocked.
Get the "firmware is not approved" on my device too.
I have the Canadian too but am in the U.S. and there's no update here yet...

Hmm.. I'm in the US too on ATT. You're saying Pie doesn't show up on Firmware Finder for you?
Do you think this would work for updating a c792 to that 9.0 firmware?

...use a USB stick like someone mentioned with the update files from FF?

AT&T SM-G975U on Android 9 - "Current software is up to date"?

I've had an AT&T Galaxy S10+ sitting in a box since the beginning of last year that I finally decided to open up and use. For some reason when I run the software updater in the settings it always says that it is up to date even though the latest security patch was from March 2019 and it's still on Android 9. My other AT&T S10+ that I got during the same time (BOGO deal) is my daily driver and it always receives the OTA updates right away.
I've searched online for the firmware files to flash in ODIN but I can't seem to find the firmware files for the AT&T version.
Does anyone have a link to the latest firmware files for the AT&T S10+ (non 5g) or know of a way to force the OTA update?

I tried that and it didn't change anything. It still said the software was up to date. I cleared the system cache before that and it didn't do anything either.

AT&T firmware is hard to come by as it's not on Sam moblie. Most of the time you have to buy it from pay sites. I used gsm 2 file .com here:

Did you turn off wifi and check for an update? Sometimes that will trigger it, also try plugging the phone into a PC and use Samsung Smart Switch.
I'm actually trying to keep mine on pie it's been on It for 2 year and now it wants to update. Is there a way to flash or keep it on pie?

I would recommend going no higher than Android 10. Even with Android 10 you will lose some app functionality such as Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature, it will no longer work.
Pie is reasonably secure, I have 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, one on 10. The one running on 9 will remain there as it's useful for troubleshooting more so than the Q variant.
With Android 11 comes cpu cycle sucking scoped storage and forced encryption which is security overkill at the cost of performance and functionality. Scoped storage isn't active on Android 10 nor is forced encryption from what I've observed. If your device is running well, fulfilling its mission on Pie I wouldn't risk upgrading to Q. Benefits are minimal. I would recommend using Karma Firewall if you stay on Pie for better security. Karma Firewall may also be able to block the update app which give you another way to neuter this pest, but not as reliable as a package block.
To stay on Pie you simply disable the app shown below either by using Package Disabler (PM me for the link) or a adb edit to disable it. Those are the only ways to do so.
If the update does download clearing the system cache on the boot menu before it starts to install should delete it. I haven't tested this but was told this, it may or may not work. If it does install the Android 11 update there's no way to roll it back as it will update the bootloader as well locking you to only being able to flash/upgrade to 11 or higher, beware.
This is the OTA update app.
