Phone getting hot and lagging after August update - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm recently update to August patch and noticed that the phone getting warm (and hot) after 15 mins browsing web (Chrome), also when fast scrolling down, its doesn't smooth, even lag than mid-range phones.
Tried clean flash update with odin but no luck.
Anyone experienced this problem? Should i flash custom rom? Mine still under warranty cover and i dont want to mess up with knox. But i'm getting frustrated with stock rom.

Mine was like that after the update but i did wipe cache and after a day its back to normal again... Im gaining 6 hours sot... Using wqhd screen in medium battery mode

Confirm. My phone very hot after this patch.

[Q] Weird unprovoked Jellybean Samsung logo brick question

Hi,
A few days ago I upgraded my Note from a very ancient (stock) Gingerbread ROM to (stock) Jellybean. I hadn't been getting OTA updates because the Gingerbread was originally German rather than UK, so quite a long time had passed without any updates. Anyway, because of the no OTA, I used Odin. Everything went fine and I had a nice few days of usage, although the battery consumption seemed to suddenly be quite high, mainly due to additional wakelocks from the new Google Search it looked like. The night before last at about 3% the phone turned itself off, which is unusual as normally the battery will run itself lower than that. BTW, it's an official battery bought just a few months ago to replace the one before, which was getting old.
Yesterday evening when I went to use the phone it was dead. Completely unresponsive. It wouldn't charge either. (The battery had been at about fourteen percent I think, so it should have still had a lot of juice left.) Turning it on would leave it stuck on the Samsung logo only. Recovery mode didn't work, but I could get download mode up, so I installed the Philz kernel as people have said, and then did a reset using that, and all was okay again and after reflashing the ROM I could use the phone again, although because of the reset I had to set everything up again.
Just wondering what people think caused it. Just a weird coincidence, or something else? As far as I'm concerned, the problem has been sort of mitigated for now, but definitely not fixed, because what's to stop it happening again? Has anyone heard of strange things going on with Jellybean? I know there's an issue with flashing/resetting from ICS, but I never used that so I don't think that's an issue, and it looks like it was just a soft brick only. Still, a bit weird and worrying. Does anyone have any ideas?
That was caused by an unexpected shutdown of your phone - if you remove the battery without it fully turning off then you will get it and yeah, blame samsung.
The only way not to have it again is to flash philz kernel with the bootloop fix BEFORE you get the bootloop. Alternativly, if you get it again then you can try what is in this post:

I didn't take the battery out though. It was low but not dead.
Since then it has happened once again, a few days ago, this time at 93% full. I was doing nothing at all taxing to the phone. I was just in a shop listening to an mp3 with the screen off, and then it stopped and the next thing I saw was the bootloop. Luckily (thanks to the new kernel?) I could just delete cache/dalvik and be back up and running again without having to reinstall everything. Today my screen temporarily went a weird purple colour like in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216867 . Sounds like it's just dying in general really, rather than anything else. My phone contract upgrade date is in two days. Purely a coincidence of course. Weird how phones tend to last about the length of a mobile phone contract. Until then I'm just running on power saving mode and hoping for the best.

Nougat Causes Random Reboots

Ever since I flashed the OTA my N6 has been having random reboots and battery life issues. The reboots happened three times today and all three times happened when the phone was just sitting next to me.
I originally had the WiFi problem where it wouldn't connect to anything until I reset the network settings. A factory reset didn't work for the WiFi issue. I am not rooted and just running stock with encryption.
Android OS is using a lot of the battery as well. You can see the three times today where it rebooted from the attached screenshot.
Any idea what is going on and how to stop it? So far Nougat has been horrible for me when I didn't have problems like this with the marshmallow upgrade.
as a rule of thumb avoid otas, always go for flashing the factory image via fastboot when available , in my experience otas=trouble

I've had the same battery issue. I think it has to do with the data partition. I did not a full wipe when upgrading to Nougat.
Settings - Battery - 3dots -> Battery optimization, and manually optimize all apps for battery use.
When you upgraded without a full wipe -> consider a clean reinstall with a full wipe.

All of the apps are setup for Doze. I did a factory reset after installing the OTA, which didn't seem to help. Also, I hooked up the charger last night at 1 am. It's now 6:50am and it only charged from 10% to 82% in that time. I never had issues like this before.
I did a clean install, I had to because it was from a custom rom, but it's been working perfectly for almost a week. If it had some problems they would have shown by now. No wifi trouble, no battery draining.

I noticed that your screen consumed 38% of the battery. That's very much in 15 hours.
Is it possible that there is something magnetic in the neighborhood that is constantly switching the screen on and off. This may happen with cases with magnetic closer.

It was that high because I was trying to figure out what was going on. I ended up this morning doing a complete wipe and reflash of the factory images instead of the OTA. So far it seems to be stable, except the WiFi constantly is dropping strength and jumping back. Not sure what's causing that one.
what most people dont ever consider.. it can be your personal setup thats causing reboots on nougat.

I use minimal apps, on a fully stock setup. I haven't tweaked anything, so how would that cause the reboots?
After reflashing the full factory images yesterday morning I did not have any random reboots. However, when I plugged in to charge last night, using the original cable and charger, it took over 3 hours to go from 55% to full. This was happening before the full flash, but only after Nougat. The other night it went from 10% to 68% in 6 hours. Quick charge doesn't seem to work in Nougat anymore.
Still getting this? Put stock nougat image on mine and experiencing random reboots. Going to try pure tomorrow, hopefully that resolves it.
Mine quick charges fine on a clean factory image install of Nougat. Battery life doesn't seem great but I'm still letting it settle and not sure how old this device is I picked it up off Craigslist the other day

Try Franco kernel I think he has added a fix for this

Moto Z force update turns the force into the Note 7

So the latest update to the zforce did some major improvements. Like making wifi not find any networks. Bluetooth not working and best of all the new Note 7 feature.
The phone has been factory reset and the cache Cleared. With nothing installed the phone gets so hot it can't even be touched. Installed this to see what was going on and after the update the battery if let sitting screen brightness turned down and just sitting at the main screen after a few min the battery gets to over 90c. The frame on the phone gets to over 60c. Checking the phone has a constant 1amp drain and I seen it as high as 2.5 at times.
Moto knows about this fire hazard and they do not seem to concerned about it. Refused to send me a safe box to ship the phone back. They also did not advice me to stop using it and keep it powered off.
Wow that completely sucks I'm so glad that I'm still on marshmallow. Please keep us posted if they exchange it and the process

That stinks. On Nougat with no issues here.
I have (no wifi (intermittent 2.4gz connection and no 5gz available) and no bluetooth) and had (major battery drain) since July. I fixed the drain issue with a battery reset (after a full charge, wait 2 hours, reboot the phone by holding power button till it reboot) by making sure wifi ain't turn on and no micro sad card inserted when I reboot...
Still have some battery drain issue when phone is below 30% with wifi on at night... Wake up the next day with a dead battery, other than this battery life is like it used to be.
It's sad to see Motorola/Lenovo doing nothing to help its community with updates, I've explain those issues but only got replied I should get it return and get a refurbished one... when lots of those refurb ends up with the same issues afterwards...
Hope Oreo update can fix this

My new (stock) mi a2 (Oct patch level) crash / reboot

I've been using my new Mi A2 for about a month or two now. I installed the both Oct security patches when they became available. My phone has not been rooted, has only a few apps on it so basically stock. Works great, long battery life, no complaints.
I was using the phone to reply to a text today when the screen went dark and it appeared to reboot. I saw the android one logo and after about 15-20 seconds I was back. All my apps were fine, the phone works fine etc. Very strange as I have never seen anything like this on my android phone(s).
I can see the the "uptime" on the settings display shows over 340 hours so I'm not sure if the kernel crashed or if was the display manager ... Anyone else had anything like this happen ? I'm guessing this was the display manager and not a kernel panic since it restarted so quickly.
I just do hard reset.. I have this issue before and that time I used for around 4 days and uptime 557 hours.. On battery, my device is up for 82 days.. What I do before I go hard reset, I updated to the latest November update then when it's reboot after finished installing, I reset it.. Since then no more random uptime or unusual battery stats.. Almost 2 weeks now ?

my phone is dying slowly I think

So my phone is overheating when I plug it in the charger, when I play bleach immortal souls, when I multitask with a pop-up window Two dots and YouTube together and my battery life only gets max 3 hours SOT.
I am opting to get the oneplus 8T once it comes out next month but I'm not sure what to do with my note 9 in the meanwhile. No matter if it's the stock ROM or the 4 custom ROMs out there, it all has the same problems but the one thing that's confusing me is that accubattery says my battery health is 87%.... Anyone else encounter a problem like this?
Sorry for what might be a dumb question but have you factory data reset you phone? I did a few months back and felt like a new phone again.

yeah I did a factory reset, I formatted the whole phone using stock recovery aswell and that didn't seem to fix the problem. i recently flashed superstable rom and the phone is blazing fast but still I can get no fast charging, battery life is really bad even after doing a battery calibration like for instance last night my phone was at 100% and I didn't put it in the charger and 7 hours later i found my phone at 58% and i ca share screenshots that shows it didn't have any phone use.....
the thing is this is probably a battery gone bad problem but I don't want to open the phone to lose "water proofing"
