Problem with GPS on firmware 10.x - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, i just bought a p30 pro on ebay and im having issues with GPS on the 10.x firmwares. The only way I get a lock is to be outside or near a window, anywhere else I can't connect. The funny thing is if i downgrade to 9.1 it works fine,i get immediate lock
This is happening in Google maps, pokemon go, weather. They're the location apps i tried.
I've tried many things:
1. hard reset
2. settings reset
3. cleared storage and cache
4. Turn off battery optimisation
5. Ensured all apps have the permissions for location
In the end the only thing that's working is downgrading to 9.1. My hunch is in 10.x the GPS chip is working but the WiFi location scanning or something is not. Not sure if relevant but in Google maps, i get the blue location dot (and reticule) on 9.1, but on 10.x when I do eventually get a lock when outside, it is a grey dot
Has anyone else had this problem?

Google Maps Problems

Is anyone else here experiecing problems with the 'My Location' function on Google Maps?
I have installed the latest pubicly available (2.1xx?) version of Google Maps and am finding that it is struggling to pinpoint my location properly - it seems to be out by several miles on occasion.
I have seen threads elsewhere saying the best solution is to grab a previous version that worked fine, but cannot find one.
Any help would be appreciated.
Apologies if this is an "obvious" thing you've tried already but is the GPS actually activated when you're trying to get your location?
I have the latest version and it gives me a location about two miles off.......until I put the GPS on, then it immediately goes straight to above my head!
Maybe GPS isn't turned on.
If GPS isn't on, it uses cell towers to guess where you are, approximently. It triangulates between 2-3 towers and gives a general location. Turn on the GPS and it should get right on.
I've just noticed:
you have the latest PUBICly available version!?!
my location doesn't even work for me anymore. I've tried the new 2.1 and the older 2.0.1 version but both don't work. GPS obviously work but I don't want to wait for the time to lock.

[Q] No setting to turn GPS off in Camera app

Hello there,
I searched throughly in forums before asking this, but
I can't seem to turn off GPS location attachment in Camera photos.
When taking a photo, gps satellite appears up left. Doesn't make a difference if my GPS radio is ON or OFF in Settings.
And my last known location gets attached into photos.
There is NO SETTING about "Location" "GPS" or something alike in camera settings/options.
My setup is I9000 8gb with Stock JPY/JPY/JPY, no lagfix, Speedmod K12K kernel applied for rooting purposes.
And my camera app is not updated from some another device. It IS the app which comes with official JPY package.
Please help
Thanks
Well, it looks like XPY is an internal firmware of 2.2.1, and the rumor says there are no GPS settings in internal firmware camera apps.
I disabled "Use wireless location service" thing in Location settings, and camera can't get location data now. Even though it still tries with satellite icon blinking.
Very silly and annoying thing.
Hope someone comes with solution.

Location using WiFi and mobile network - not working

Hello all,
I have the S5 Mini Duos (SM-G800H) with Android 4.4.2, rooted, everything works nice, good battery life, except the following:
Location does not work indoor and some times in the car. GPS can lock on satellites when in open sky but sometimes in the car the signal is lost. For that times the phone should take it's general location from WiFi and mobile networks, which it does not because when I set the Location mode to "power saving", disabling the GPS sensor, the phone never shows an estimate location (a large blue circle in Google Maps), in fact Google Maps gets a very poor location overall, even when outside and GPS on, the location is not precise, the direction of my movement is not pointing, I only use Waze and it works but it works so much better on an iPhone, in car or inside when I try to check-in or search or Google Maps, I can't do anything inside with the S5 Mini.
Since I am trying to get a location from WiFi and mobile networks I guess it is not a problem of GPS sensor. What can I do to have a location (general location not accurate) inside using networks? Should an update to 5.1.1 can cure this? Can I try something before the update which can be tricky to do as there is no official release yet?
LE: Baseband version: G800HXXU1ANGF / Build number: KOT49H.G800HXXU1ANH2
Thank you!
In my case after updating to lollipop (stock) everything worked fine
Try to update might work as well
Hi all, I have installed 5.1.1, TWRP and rooted using the checklist here and yes it now takes the location from wifi&mobile network.
Still no improved location on GPS (in the car with Waze still do not show the triangle moving as it should do with a good 3D location set).
5.1.1 is a good experience overall, much improved notifications, speed is also good, battery life good with some tweaks and killing some samsung and google apps.
But, this morning my phone (not touched) said it is not rooted anymore (when trying to check wakelocks), and when I tried to restart it started to boot loop. Had to do all the installations again. Hope will not happen again.
Hi all,
After a few days ago I have reinstalled again 5.1.1 and rooted it, today in the middle of the day when trying to launch Titanium Backup, the root was gone again. Now it is loop rebooting What is wrong? The 5.1.1 build, the TWRP or the SuperSU?

GPS issue after flashing various ROMs

Probably should preface my phone, 910T model, didn't have GPS problems like others with the Note 4 has such as antenna problems or just generally couldn't lock in most of the time.
I was originally just using N5 Express 3.4D. Then I went with CMRemix, then Beanstalk - 6.13, and back to N5 Express 3.4D again (all clean installs). When I launched Maps/Waze/Life360 in N5 3.4D GPS couldn't get my location. I went with another ROM, Maximum OvrDriVE N5, to see if it was just the ROM but it couldn't get my GPS either.
I've tried setting it to GPS only but it's no good. I have agreed to all those Google agreements on location, checked location settings, etc. The Maximum Overdrive N5 has some GPS feature in the notification bar, but it stays stuck on finding GPS location. I don't know what to do at this point. I'm gonna flash Beanstalk again since I remember that was the last time I remember GPS working, but it's just weird how GPS is not working after that.
Edit: I'm at a total loss here on what to do to fix the GPS issue. I flashed the CM13 ROMS again and GPS still doesn't work. I went back to stock and GPS still does not work. What can I do? GPS doesn't lock on at all. I press the cross hair button in Maps and it just does nothing. Did I somehow kill the GPS? All I remember was just flashing various ROMs. No phone drops.
Edit 2: Wow, my brother just fixed it by pressing the phone on the sides and called me a dumbass. Apparently it was the antenna. Delete thread or archive it. heh

GPS not working after Pie update?

I can't seem to connect to GPS after upgrading to android pie.
Was just wondering if there's any known solution or people having the same issue.

Me too, italiano firmware, gps stop working after upgrade to Android 9
Please help US with GPS we have Need to drive
I did a clean install of customized IT firmware and GPS works fine.
The same - GPS not working on 47.2.A.8.24 Customized DE, original firmware was Customized CE1
Its hard to notice the issue as most of applications are using Google Location service which does very good job in the urban areas - but whenever I go to the mountains the issue pops up.
Edit: clearing A-GPS data with GPS status & Toolbox app and reboot helped, lets see for how long.
EDIT: GPS stopped working after 23 hours, clearing AGPS and reboot did not help, fighting
Did someone find a fix to this very annoying issue?
Hey everyone
To people who encountered this issue, have you ever found a fix?
This is so annoying... It's not clear if it is a hardware or a software issue as clearing the GPS cache fixes the problem temporarily.
Thanks!
Hello,
I have come across the same issue in the past. I resolved mine by entering Service Menu (dial: *#*#7378423#*#*) and then from within the menu: Service tests -> GPS -> Purge assistance data. This resolved it for good. Reboot. Done.
Thanks,
Jack
Hi Jack,
Thanks for the update
In my case, the issue is still occurring... even if I clean the assistance data.
Did someone tried to modify the APN type in the settings ?
Something like "default,supl,a-gps,dun" instead of "default" only
I remember PIE update cleared all the parameters....
Go into airplane mode, open settings\apps & notifications\app info - find maps and force stop - go into storage and wipe the cache & data
Reboot phone, disable airplane mode.

I think I tried this once or twice a few month ago. It worked but not permanently. The issue appeared again a few days later... Does it work permanently with your phone or is it just temporary ?
The problem is still here and nobody has found any permanent fix...
Hello all,
Same problem here in a Xperia XA2. After upgrade to Android 9 Pie (50.2.A.0.379), it was not possible to get any satellite fix and GPS position was never established.
According to different apps, many satellites were visible (usually more than 20) but it was not possible to fix none of them.
Finally fixed the problem after 2 weeks trying everything I read helped other users, so I leave here the full list for reference.
Troubleshooting done after googling:
- Restart device
- Restart device in safe mode
- Clearing A-GPS data with GPS status & Toolbox app
- Turn on and off "Improve location accuracy"
- Turn off battery saver
- Turn off and on WiFi scanning.
- Purge assistance data on Service Menu
- Turn on airplane mode
Then I contacted Sony support who suggested:
- WiFi vs. SIM network/network settings
- SIM cards from different providers
- Manual vs. automatic choice of networks and preferred networks
- Network settings reset
- Factory reset
Still not solved. Contacted support again and statement was "try a Software Repair on Xperia Companion, if this is not solving the issue, it's a HW problem".
Honestly, after a Factory reset I didn't think nothing would help, but device was already wiped out, so it was worth a try.
And it worked. Satellites are getting fixed again and I have GPS positioning.
Please be aware the "Software repair" will erase all data in your mobile, but hopefully will fix GPS too
FFS!
I thought I'd found a decent small phone, but no.
HTC phones (the top-tier ones - U11 Life is crap) have always just worked!
