Hello
Recently i've bought an broken screen Xperia Z, for repair it (i got it like $300 bucks cheaper) and i was ready to buy the screen, but i battery was drained and i could not test it right, when i connected to the charger, it started red light, vibrate, then 3 continuous vibes, read on the internet, OK BATTERY DRAINED, i left it charge THE WHOLE NIGHT, and when i woke up in the morning it was orange (charging), later in the day it was green (charged) but when i disconnect it, it wont turn on anyways, when i connect it to a pc, it goes blue light (wich later i read it was fastboot mode). i read for making a repair with PCC, but it didnt fixed it, then i flashed it with Flashtool, with the latest software (wich had the Sudden death issue fixed) no luck. it wont boot. for it to boot, i have to connect it to PC and with fastboot run "fastboot continue", but most of the time, it reboots and goes redlight and vibrate 3 times then reboot, so i press the power button and it enters fastboot mode (if connected to PC) or loads charging if connected to wall charger, but it reboots again and goes to redlight vibrate reboot, sometimes it stay charging or in fastboot mode, but only "works" if connected in the USB.
when it stays in fastboot, i do "fastboot continue" and it loads the OS, and it works (well, the things i can do with a broken LCD/Touchscreen, i put my sim card and could call it, and it works, but i cant pick up the call). i can explore the phone memory etc. but if it reboots or if i disconnect the USB, it will almost always turn off. i havn't found a solution (or idea) of what can happen, i dont know if its normal since it has broken lcd/touchscreen or it definitely have a huge problem,
any ideas?
thanks in advance!
Maybe the battery is damaged, and the phone knows it and boots into some sort of safe mode to spare internal damage? When the is has booted you can take screenshots with adb if you have usb debugging enabled. Maybe try see if the os says the battery is damaged?

Well, actually it doesnt seem the battery is damaged, fisically looks ok and it holds charge, i cant debug because usb debugging comes off by default when flash stock software.

Correct me if i am wrong but does the xperia z not support usg-otg and mhl? You could rig the phone up to the tv with a mhl-hdmi cable and maybe use a usb mouse to select things, and enable usb debugging?

Nice idea, now i need to find who in this country (DR) have that adapter
i ordered the LCD screen assembly for repair it myself, but im still concerned about this, as i dont know if it will boot up anyways
my phone right now isnt booting. but as i cant see images i dont know what is it showing.
i noticed the touch screen is working indeed. (when booted, it plays sounds when tapping)
i will wait till the lcd assembly arrives. any ways, any other ideas on what may happen?
the ex-owner of the phone said it started like that when it fell and broke the lcd.
OK now, i've installed the LCD, the phone works, its ON, BUT the Volume Up button and the Power Button does not work when the phone is ON,
the Vol UP button seems always be pressed cause when i press the power button for some seconds, the Phone restarts and not power off or lock/unlock
Service tests: None of these buttons where recognized.
any ideas on any hardware fixes i could try?
I FIXED IT!!
dissasembled the phone, took out the side button flex cable and the volume up button on the flex was dirty, so it was having a false contact. (wich made the button always be pressed)
I took out the yellow tape and cleaned with alcohol and a needle (its so freakin small) and put the tape again and assembled the phone and voila! IT WORKS OK!!
Yes the vol up button pressed means u get fastboot. Now that you fixed the problem and repaired the phone enjoy. Btw nice job getting it up and running.

I have a standard SM-N700 Galaxy Gear and had it running null. All seemed fine until one night after a notification tried to come to the watch, the screen flashed white and the watch appeared to shut down. Since then, it hasn't been able to turn on for anything. Below is the steps I've taken to try to recover my smartwatch...
Tried using multiple power supplies, no response (one power supply even caused the charging dock to become a little warm)
Tried holding power for 10 seconds, no response.
Tried repeatedly holding/pressing power (I heard sometimes this can help clear a softlocked device), no response.
Opened the watch and disconnected the battery. When the watch was reconnected, it vibrated once as if it was going to turn on, but didn't do anything further. Repeated attempts at removing the battery had no response, not even a vibrate.
Tried connecting the watch to my PC, the computer beeped that a device was connected and reported that there was no driver for "sec s5pc210 test b/d". I checked and the standard Samsung USB Drivers are installed. Tried other USB cables and USB ports, either the computer gives the beep of a malfunctioning USB device, or beeps as if something connected, but then the device seems to disappear.
I've read some resources that suggest that either the watch is completely fried, or somehow during an update to Gear Manager, it corrupted or damaged the bootloader of the watch, and after the watch attempted to reboot, it failed and got stuck in the condition it is in now. Based on these resources, there's supposed to be a way using Odin to flash a proper bootloader to the device, but since it does not appear to stay connected for more than an instant, and when it does connect it appears as this "sec s5pc210 test b/d" device, the tools I've tried to flash the bootloader have failed.
I really don't want to have to replace this device. Having a Samsung watch that still runs plain Android is not something I want to give up.
Hi all .. I have a phone but nothing appears on the screen and when I connect the phone to the charger shows the sign of the charger until the green sign appears, which means full battery .. What do these things show? Is the screen damaged or motherboard problem ? Please Help
Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds or more, and see if there is any change. Also try power+vol up (which normally boots to bootloader) and hold for 10 seconds or more.

You mean the charging animation on the screen, or just the LED charge light?
If it's showing the charge animation, your screen is okay. And at least have a working bootloader, as well.

I gave another suggestion about holding the power/vol buttons. I have no idea if you tried, and if so, whether there was any change.
Reading the files on internal storage to me, means the phone is booted to OS. So I agree that it appears the phone is on, but screen is either not working, or somehow darkened all the way.
What is the history of this device, and did anything happen before the current condition? Did it just happen spontaneously, or did you drop it or try to open it to fix anything? Try to install anything? Is the phone modified at all (TWRP, root, etc.) or basically still stock? Even if it happened spontaneously, did it happen when you were using it (and if so, what were you doing exactly)? Or just picked it up and it was this way?
I try to press power button 10 sec and more and power+ vol+ nothing happened on screen just vibrate ....the problem for my phone appear without any open to phone

Then connect the phone to a computer, type:
adb devices
And see if your phone's ID is returned, or if there is an error or just hangs "Waiting for device".
If it returns your phone's ID, then the phone is booted to OS (or alternately, booted to custom recovery will also allow adb connection). So to me, this means the phone is on, but the screen is not working (not displaying anything) like you suggested. adb won't connect if the phone is not on (and booted to OS).

the phone now on mtp mode
C:\WINDOWS\system32>adb devices
adb server is out of date. killing...

So it looks like adb is connecting. I think it is saying "unauthorized" since the phone's screen is trying to prompt you to authorize adb commands (which you obviously can't see or respond to). But it is obtaining the device's ID code. Which by the way, is unique to your device. So I would advise to remove it from your previous post. Don't know if it is dangerous for other folks to have this, but better safe than sorry. Simply telling us that an ID code was returned, would have been sufficient.
Moral of the story, I am thinking the phone is booted to OS, just the screen is not displaying anything. Screen may be broken, as you somewhat were guessing from your top post. I suppose there is a possibility it may be some software fault. You can try to eliminate this as the cause, by possibly booting to bootloader, which should allow fastboot access, then flash a stock recovery image. Although it may be tricky without seeing the display. Since if you need to see the display, or select anything during the process (don't recall if you do or not), you are out of luck.
Although I tend to think this is a hardware issue. Screen may be malfunctioning. Or it may be as simple as a loose connector.
Please. Please help me out to get my files from my damaged screen P20 Pro
To be honest I'm starting to hate those HUAWEIS... It have done the same thing twice in a row, this time I was more prepared when last time but still same thing happening, I cannot connect it to PC or even TV thats means I can't get anything out of it :crying:
This time I am 100% sure I had USB Debugging enabled, also HiSuite is also was installed on my phone I just didn't use it. Now when I really need it connect it to my PC it doesn't work! No matter what I do... That is super annoying as they made very simple thing, super complicated and annoying...
- HiSuite doesn't find my phone and keeps popping messages that I need to enable USB Debugging even when its already enabled.. It also gives me message sometimes that I need to install HiSuite on my phone as well but its already installed.. I had checked it trough my PC via Google Play and it says its already installed. Totally useless app if you having screen problems.. I also tried “dr.phone” which cannot find my phone too and few other cant remember the names but unsuccessfully too
The worst thing is that before damaging my screen it was able to access files I was also able to use my Type C HDMI adapter without any problems on TV and Projector but now it doesn't work too... What the hell? WTF is wrong with that thing? The only reason I can think of is that before connecting it to PC or TV I have to unlock my phone first for some stupid Huawei safety reasons and now when I cannot do it because of my screen problem it doesn't connect to anything? If I am right, is there is any way go around that, take off the screen lock without resetting whole device??
On top of all this super annoying bull**** I have found on another Android device which Im using now that all the contacts I saved with my P20 Pro wasn't actually saved into my google contacts at all and all my new contacts for over half year are gone too on all other devices, for some stupid reason it didn't saved them to my google acc even when I am always saving it that way. I never had such a problems with any other devices in the past and I am android user over 7 years.. This phone can get really annoying in some situations, it does what it wants
Can anyone help me out on this one? That would be Amazing :good:
Use a kB to type your pin unless the screen works..
Then copy out..
If you can't turn on usb / hdmi then you'll never guess it..
kB over usb c is your best bet mate..
End of..
Hard times man.
OR....
You get the repair guy to do it whilst you're there lol..job done.
which part of your screen is damaged? the touch or the display or both? Not able to do something you really want might be really frustrating. If I were you, I'd do this way.
I'd plug-in a USB-C hub ( with USB ports for keyboard/ mouse combo, another USB port for storage device, and a HDMI output). Plug-in my flash drive, mouse/ kb, and the monitor (or TV).
the phone will instantly switch to the desktop mode and you will be able to use the keyboard/ mouse and able to copy the files to the flash drive you plugged in.
Maybe you'll need one of those USB-C adapter with power pass-through.

Hey! I have a similar condition with OP. Thing is, I have a USB-C to HDMI connector, and I tried connected it to my monitor. But it's not automatically switch to Desktop mode, instead my phone screen is displayed in my monitor. The thing is, I have enabled password requirement after reboot, and I can't type the password even with a keyboard or a mouse (I was guessing the numpad pattern hundred times, and just click the areas).
So here's the review:
1. Screen cracked
2. No display
3. Touchscreen not working
4. ROM EMUI 8.1
5. Bootloader LOCK (No root, no custom recovery)
6. USB Debugging disabled
7. Password authentication after restart is enabled
8. Can display the screen on my monitor via USB-C to HDMI
9. Mouse and keyboard seems to responding, but not work when typing my password, the screen just freeze when I tried to do that and nothing happen
10. HiSuite acknowledge my device but can't do anything because I haven't allow USB debugging connections.
11. Data not sync to Huawei Cloud
I will not repair the screen because it's $250 exc. labor cost in my country, I preferred save my money to bought another phone. I want to access my data on the phone, Any suggestion?

Thank you for you answer mate. I ordered adapter and the keyboard but some reason it still didn't do the trick. But it does work on other devices straight away. Strange... maybe again some stupid huawei security thing.. I will try dock option, its my last chance :crying:

You may need to select something on screen to allow it. Does video come up? Or do any peripherals work?
Are you powering the hub?
Wired or wireless KBM
My wireless one in work, didn't work for me, whereas my wired ones did.
Are you on emui or a custom ROM?
Tbh custom ROMs would probably have more luck from experience.
Did you alter the default usb mode from charging to anything else?
That may also be causing an issue..
Does any input work at all on the phone ? Could you try by measuring input on an identical device then touch the exact part of the screen to unlock it??
I've been here before, but it is starting to look like a lost cause pal.

It looks like this phone does everything he can to keep my data locked  I connected it successfully via Type C Hub (Good recommendation btw :good::good For some reason my old type c hdmi adapter just doesn't work after screen crash
So finally I have got my hdmi signal back, I can see my lock screen now which is a very good sign, mouse and keyboard works too but now I got another super silly problem which now makes me look like this peace of **** is laughing out of me
I tried connecting my phone to TV and Projector, I can see my lock screen fine but once I push Space on my keyboard or scroll the screen with my mouse to unlock the screen I lose my screen connection straight away...
I tried entering my code on blank screen, pushing enter etc... but nothing happens or if it does my screen is completely dark and I can see nothing, I push on/off button twice and I get back my screen connection back with my lock screen again asking for same code Seriously wtf?
It looks like that moment which lets you type the password in can't be transmitter on my tv/projector for lets say some resolution issues... just guessing but my code entering on blank screen doesn't look like is doing anything either
I have an official Rom without any tweaks

Disconnect either the mouse or the kB. Might be too much power. Are you powering it?? Change cable. Change TV.
No it doesn't have external power source. My current type c hub, doesn't have this option. Only Hdmi, 2x Usb 3 and sd & micro usd slots. Is there is anyway to add it now externally?
I have tried it already with single kb or mouse. Even connecting my wireless kb just with usb type c adapter with no luck. Once I come back home today I will give a try with only Wired Keyboard connected. Haven't tried that yet

it's better to use USB-C hub with power delivery (i.e, u can plug in your charger to the hub).
I also tried your scenario at home last night. I plug-in my keyboard, mouse and HDMI cable to the hub, then i plug-in the hub to my phone while the phone is locked. first, there is nothing. No signal.
Then i press power button on the phone, I then saw the mirror of phone display on the monitor.
When swipe the mouse to reveal the unlock screen, yes, the monitor suddenly lost the signal, but just continue typing in the password correctly. The phone will be unlocked and u will get back the HDMI signal on the monitor.
then pull down the notification panel and activate the EMUI desktop mode. That's it.

Thank for your respond. It's sounds simple and obvious but for some reason I can't get through that bit for some reason, I even started thinking if google could changed my password but thats very unlikely but its acting as it is, as I don't know how can I type my password so many times and it still wont pick it up
I will give another good try today once I get back home, it does look like I tried that already but will give another try. The thing that you lose signal at code bit as well tells me that it not just happening for me and that my kb and mouse should be still working at that time as i though I could be getting full disconnection at that time.
Do you need to click Enter to confirm typed code in? O does it unlocks straight away after correct code is entered? Tried both still
Hi did you manage to get this sorted? I'm experiencing exactly the same now. Tia

OK. This is how I got my P20 Pro to work.
- I used a generic USB-C to HDMI Adapter. Mine was the Baseus UCN3277.
- Screen Broke completely
- Touch not working
- Fingerprint not working
I just used a wired cheap HP USB Keyboard connected to the USB-Adapter. Using a wired Mouse made it not work for me. I think this draws to much power.
Connecting power to the USB-Adapter also made it not work. (This might be just for this Adapter)
Remove all Sim cards! I had one in the second slot. This made it not work.
This is how it works for me:
1. Connect the USB-Adapter to the Phone and the TV
2. Press the Power button on the phone -> Screen appears on the Monitor
3. Press Space -> Monitor goes black (seems to be some security feature from huawei)
4. Despite the black monitor, type the Password on the Keyboard (I did not use the numpad)
5. If the Password is correct, your in at this point
I used teamviewer to control the phone, so that I could confirm the RSA Fingerprint message, when I want to use adb on the PC.
Hope this helps for people with the same problem.
I am having unfortunatly the same problem here. I did managed to get my phone's screen on my monitor for only seconds (sometimes scretched all the way to 16:9 aspect ratio), but often just black screen or a grey screen with the time and a unlock icon beneath it.
Strange enough it all works right away on my newer Samsung. I tried different mouses and HDMI cables. Going to try a different monitor or TV aswell. Anyone other suggestions?

i have usb hub with hdmi and power delivery + extra usb ports for mouse/keyboard...
can't get pass the gray lockscreen with clock and lock icon - when i press space on the keyboard, talkback says it requres a pattern code which i have to guess where to draw (or so i think)...
can pattern be entered via keyboard's numpad? (like a phone numpad where 1 is a top left corner and 9 in bottom right corner)

were you able to put in the password with your keyboard or did you use your phone. My screen is broken and unusable so I'd have to guess the password?
I have the same problem with my Mate 20X. the phone feed to the monitor freezes or just goes blank as soon I swipe/unlock the phone to put in my password. I tried different combinations with my USB-C hub (powered, not powered, only mouse, only keyboard, both) but it still doesn't work.
My friend has an S21 Ultra 5G with the Exynos SoC. There's an app that constantly crashes, Samsung Audio Remote, that he NEEDS to control the volume on his sound bar because he's handicapped and can not use a physical remote. After a total of 3 HOURS on the phone with Samsung support, the next step and alleged solution is to wipe the cache partition. But I can not get I to recovery. The procedure support told me to use, that I tried 3 times while they were on the phone, did not work. Now, I'm no tech god, but I have successfully flashed dozens of roms on several devices over the years, including 4 Samsung Galaxy devices, so I know a thing or two about pressing buttons in the right sequence. But, this S21 is kicking my tail. It's sooooo much is a trainwreck that I have decided that Samsung does NOT want my money, so I'll be happy to never give them a penny more. But. My friend has this $1000 turd so he's got to get it figured out. So. Please. How do I get into recovery so I can wipe the cache partition on this pile of junk?
Build number is G998BXXU2AUBB.
As a side, this problem exists on his S21, my Moto G Stylus, and his Galaxy Tab tablet, but it does NOT exist on his LG Stylo 3, so I'm pretty confident that even wiping the recovery partition will not solve the problem, but if you've ever dealt with tech support, you know that until you do the next useless troubleshooting step, they won't move on to try to actually solve the issue. So, I gotta do it.
Turn off the device.
Then boot with both the power button and the volume up button pressed (and hold them) until the phone boots to recovery.

In my experience this only works if the phone is turned off and connected by a USB-cable to a computer. If it doesn't sense the cable connected it will just boot to normal Android OS.

It's funny that several websites forget to mention this, they just write about the key combination and rebooting, but without the cable being connected to the PC it won't boot to recovery.
on most devices you dont actually need the cable connected first and some devices do weird stuff like turn on when you plug them in. They probably dont have the actual device.

Yes, yet they inform and post the key combination as if they have tried it themselves.
You needs to connect to PC to reboot to recovery along with combo key started from Android R on Samsung devices. On older os it doesn't requires

Actually you don't need to connect the cable to a PC...the cable has to be connected to a power source. I booted to recovery with the cable connected to my power bank..

Power isn't important, storage is
Wall mount power won't work, power bank, usb storage will do.

I tried that and it didn't work for me, I actually needed to boot into a PC, or maybe it doesn't work with simple slow charge USB? I will play with this to see if it works with another power source.

Try any usb storage if you have, it will work. It doesn't need power.
Even usb c headphones will work
