after updating to Android 11 I noticed that Gboard doesn't always pop up when I enter a text field - Messages, Hangouts, Keep, Chrome, etc. the only way is to lock the device, tap device to bring up unlock/keyboard, unlock and then go about using the app I was trying to type in. if I switch to another app, Gboard stops working again. I've tried clearing Gboard cache with no luck. Switching from Gesture Nav to 3 buttons actually gets Gboard working again for a short while before it starts happening again. any suggestions?
No issues here with Gboard since updated to 11
no issues here either after upgrading to 11 stable. I only used Gboard for a few hours but no issues encountered. (Switched over to Swype after about 8 hrs on gboard)
No issues either. Been using my GBoard all day on Android 11.

I have a stock Nexus One and the latest Google Maps update, which hasn't changed in quite some time.
Over the last few weeks, this has happened at least 10 times -- I'll go to launch Google Maps and it will be like I'm launching it for the first time -- I'll get the little "welcome" dialog, I'll have to re-join Latitude, and all of my settings are gone (I've enabled certain layers and labs options). So I have to go through and re-do everything.
I haven't noticed problems with other apps -- but with Maps, it just seems to forget my preferences. Again, during the time that it has been acting up it has been on the latest update the whole time. And the whole system is stock. No mods.
Any ideas? It is pretty annoying.
Thanks
So they seemingly fixed the annoying Google Play Services bug with an update earlier today. However I also just received an update to the main Google app (to version 8.3.14.21.arm64) and I pretty much can't type more than a few letters - or occasionally a few words - into the Google search field (whether accessed through the search bar or from the main Google Now feed pane) without an instant crash back to the home screen.
Only way to use Google search now for me is the old fashioned round-about way through a web browser.
Anyone else having this problem?
First time in seven years I've had a smartphone that wasn't a Samsung and I'm almost immediately hit by two of the most obnoxious Google app issues I've had in years. Good thing I'm not paranoid...
Uninstalling and reinstalling the updates for Google appears to have fixed the issue.
That was unfortunately a temporary fix. It's back to crashing whenever I type a few letters in the search field.
I read somewhere dual apps can cause problems, so I deleted my only dual app on the phone (WhatsApp) and made sure that "user 999" is no longer there ("pm list users" shows only user 0). But the problem with Android Auto still persists.
It simply crashes after the initial configuration. Then subsequently every time I tap on the icon to run it, it crashes and quits right away.
I cleared data for both Android Auto and Google play services. Same problem.
I did some debloating when I started using the phone before installing Android Auto. Could this be the issue, that I debloated something that was essential to Android Auto's operations?
I also have Magisk running on the phone. Tried hiding Android Auto (Google Play Services is already hidden). Same problem.
Any help appreciated ! Running MIUI EEA 10.2.26 by the way.
Found the issue.
In app permissions I allowed the app to access calendar. But I have removed Google calendar from the system with adb tools (I use Outlook so Google Calendar becomes redundant). I guess Android Auto assumes Google Calendar is always there so it crashes when it is not found.
I disable the calendar permission and everything works now.
Hi Guys,
Since I bought P40 Pro, keyboard not appearing when I want to search something on Waze or Google Maps.
Not working even when in Park.
I installed GMS since out of the box.
Tried clearing cache and data on SwiftKey and AA, installed Gboard, gave all permissions.
Nothing works.
Same happened on P30 Pro (10.1).
Plugged in a friend's P30 and keyboard works..
Also tried with a Samsung S10..working.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I got exactly the same issue at the first connection Waze didn't show up keyboard at all, Google maps have shown it once but at the second connection keyboard was gone as well for GMaps. Tried SwiftKey and Gboard
Currently running AA 5.6.6034
Android version (compile) 10.1.0.147
What I have found strange as well driving yesterday with Waze - when it switched to the night mode (dark theme) reporting lines (to be precise descriptions what is written on the button) were not visible. I could see the divider lines but not the button descriptions :/
I did not get those errors.
Just the keyboard not appearing.
I tried resetting apps settings, but still not working.
I found somewere that Android Auto is not letting you use keyboard, but on other phones i am connecting with..no issues.
So it is something that has to do with the phone settings,or because the Google Services are sideloaded....
I do not know what to do.
It is hard to use only voice...
As a workaround I type in the address before connecting the phone to the car and then use history. In Poland voice recognition isn't working too good yet :/
I am doing it,but sometimes need to go to a new address.
So i disconnect, enter destination and reconnect.
Google style, to complicate and destroy all the usefulness.
Here also the voice commands are not so good.(Romania)
Hello,
Today I was unfortunately forced to update Android Auto to 7.8.622514-release. My Android Auto was running really stable with 7.5 (and I had really bad experience with 7.1 and 7.3 --> therefore I'm absolutely no fan of this forced updates).
I checked the functionality with a second phone with the app "Headunit Reloaded".
I noticed that I have a now the "Google" app available in Android Auto.
But it seems to me that the app has no function at all. I just have the message "no new messages during your drive".
Moreover it also does not appear in the launcher settings on my phone. Therefore I can't even deactivate the Google app.
Does anyone else have this? Does anyone know what kind of function the app should have?
I really do not think that I need this app. I prefer to have a clean Android Auto. Is there any other way to deactivate this app from Android Auto?
Thanks a lot.
Update: I also noticed that the Google Assistant shortcuts vanished and can't get brought back...Where are my Google Assistant shortcuts now?
Update 2: now after using Android Auto today for some drives in my car, everything is normal again. The Google app was gone after the 2nd drive and I could add my Assistant shortcuts again after the 3rd drive. I'm really curious why this happened...
I just hate these forced updates.
