hi everyone,
I am about to replace my galaxy watch with the GW3 and I am still undecided which version (LTE/BT) I should get.
I have a phone i use as a secondary number, so I could migrate this one to the watch, even if e-sim are not common in my country and this will result in a more expensive plan compared to the one I currently have. Anyway, I will accept it because I will keep my 2 separate numbers and I also could finally go jogging without carrying the phone.
My 2 doubts are:
1-battery life. I am worried that with LTE on all of the time the watch will not last an entire day
2-I am unsure about what will happen when the phone is connected to the watch and I receive a call on the other number on the watch. Is the watch switching in standalone mode?
I understand the ideal use of the LTE version is more like a companion sharing the same contract of the phone rather than using it as a standalone phone, and I could not find any answer on these doubts, so I hope someone here having an user experience could help me in making the right decision
Thanks in advance!

1. When the watch is connected via BT, LTE seems to be switched off.
2. When someone calls or sends me a text on the other number it shows up as if I received it on the handset as if they did not call/text the other number (atleast with my operator, Telia)
I will do some more testing with handset in flight mode etc.

1. there is a setting that will AUTO turn off the mobile network when the watch connects to the phone. you can disable this so the mobile network setting is on if that is what you prefer. for me, i leave it on all the time since the watch has its own working number separate from the phone. so even IF the watch connects to the phone, the mobile network can still stay on.
2. if you use the watch as a PHONE, then thats what it will be-- a phone. if you dont want that, get the BT only version.
when your watch line rings, the phone does not ring. conversely, if you have certain settings enabled in the galaxy wear app, the watch will sync to the phone and ring when the phone rings. this can be seen as a "companion" but make no mistake, the watch can and does stand alone on itself. ive had these lte watches for years and i spak from experience.

I just got a call on my watch and answered on my phone.
I guess this depends on your operator settings for call forwarding etc.

Thank you for sharing your experience!
it is actually not easy, and the scenario is probably also different whether you have 2 numbers on the same contracts or 2 different numbers with 2 different carriers.
to recap:
by default, if BT is connected, then LTE turns off to save battery life, and this makes a lot of sense in consideration of the typical use of a smartwatch, where the cellular connection sums up to BT and wifi in ensuring the watch is always connected to the phone
but
you can turn this auto-switch off, so also when is BT connected the watch will get his own calls/SMS (plus the notification of the phone i guess)
one last question: can you turn off completely LTE ? this would be useful to save battery life when traveling...
Thanks !!
Did some testing, I have the same operator on watch and phone, watchs plan is connected to the phones plan.
1. Phone in flightmode, watch is stand alone, call the WATCH'S number - Only watch rings.
2. Phone in flightmode, watch is stand alone, call the PHONES number - Only watch rings.
3. Phone in flightmode, watch BT connected, call the watch number - Get to voicemail. (Because of LTE getting turned off while on BT)
4. Phone in flightmode, watch BT connected, call the PHONES number - Get to voicemail. (Also because of LTE getting turned off while on BT)
5. Phone using cellular network, BT off, call the watch number - Handset rings, watch stays off
6. LTE on on both Watch and Handset, call either number and both Handset and Watch rings.
So i guess that if you have 2 different operators/plans the watch would behave just as any other phone.

Iv just ordered the BT version of the G3. I’m sure Iv come across something for the US where the carrier gives you a companion number so it basically the identical number as your main number to use in the watch. Trying to find the article.
Anyone know if we have anything like that in the UK.
Any thoughts or experiences from folks on three network here in the UK?
I would love to have the identical number running on both the SIM card in the phone and on the watch and you can activate which ever one is the active line.
Funny enough about 15+ years ago Vodafone Uk did actually have this service!
I have that in UK. My network is Vodafone and they have a service called "OneNumber".
The GW3 shares the same mobile plan you have on the phone and since the mobile network on the GW3 is set to Auto, GW3 will only connect to the mobile network when there is no BT connection between phone and GW3. This means that if you do not have the phone with you, you will get the calls and texts on the GW3.
This works great! No more dependency on BT connection for your watch to get calls and texts!

Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Although the phone shows it is connected to the Orange network quite often voice calls to the phone go straight to the voicemail, it seems that the phone is taking so long to process the call that the network assumes it is switched off and then diverts the call to the voicemail. a text then arrives notifying me of a missed call. Any ideas.
Incidentally I put the sim card back in my Artemis and everything worked OK

I too, seem to experience the same issue.. :\
It only seem to occurs after a while that the phone is in "extended sleep mode" (aka press the power key).
Now I'm trying a few things, I've switch the phone to GSM only network to see if THIS might be the issue... but if someone knows anything about this I'd be more than glad to be able to fix the issue
By the way my Kaiser is unbranded, the original HTC one!
You say you get a text re missed call, as opposed to a missed call notification. That would normally mean that the network couldn't see your phone - as normal internal missed calls (ie where you didnt asnwer) wouldn't send a text but would use an internal missed call counter.
So... do you have really weak 3g signal where you are and although the device thinks its connected, it isnt really?
Or is your device faulty...

Well I can say for me that the signal is always allmost full bars.
and I get txt msg saying either I have missed a call or that I have a new voicemail msg (Those are service provided by my carrier) So it's NOT "missed call notification" by WM.
So the network can't see your device when its trying to route a call to it...
Have you tried the device on GSM only? (settings, phone, band, change it from auto to gsm) to see if its a 3g network problem?

Yeah that's what I mentionned earlier, so far it seems to be okay.
But what could cause this? The device switching between the networks?
I've got it as well, but I have to say I have experienced this on the Wizard also, and that's not a 3g phone. Also had it on the Universal, and that's why I used a Tornado for a year as it didn't occur on the smartphone version of WM5.
I had high hopes of such bugs being ironed out in WM6.
I use the power key to put it in standby, as I didn't want to leave the screen using power whilst it decided to go into standby by itself. Is this extended sleep/standby that I am activating the wrong thing to do? What should we do to get it into a light sleep?

Well I dunno if it's cause by that, but this settings is located in the Power options of the setttings pannel... in the advanced tab you can tell it tu activate it or not and after how long u want it to *turn off the device* (which is what I call gently the "extended power saving")
Just spoke to Orange, apparently the 3G network went down yesterday this coincided with us getting the 3 tytn's so has probably made the problem worse. We were going to send the phone back under the 7 day return policy but have now decided to change them onto the gsm network as suggested by orange and see what happens when the 3G network re-appears.
I had the exact same problem with my Hermes on Orange about 14 months ago - just for a couple of weeks - as they were having network issues on 3g in my area.
3G masts are quite temperamental and if your local 3g provision keeps failing, they will replace them.
I haven't had any repeats of the problems for over a year.
The only annoying things about having to switch down to GSM are 1) no simultaneous data and voice, 2) slower surfing over GPRS and 3) you will get used to the massive battery life increase and switching back will hurt!

Just now I had a second round of this problem at work, and I had the same thing yesterday here. Very f***ing frustrating and since the primary function of a phone is to make calls, it's particularly ****e that it doesn't do it well.
No calls and only one out of 6 SMS's were delivered. I had to do a soft reset and then I had two voicemails and 5 unread SMS's pop up.
If the calls/SMS's were retrieved after a soft reset does this mean that it's the phone and not the transmitter? I use my phone for work and this is becoming a real problem.
I can foresee this phone being off to HTC for 'repair' getting a new unit, flogging it and going back to WM smartphone edition.
No - it sounds like a network issue.
Switch to GSM for a week. Then switch back and it should be fine.

Yeah, I did some searching on the subject and saw it occurred on many different WM phones, and switched it to GSM only.
It didn't fix it, and it simply wouldn't ring. I checked by calling from a colleague's phone and it displayed: 'warning active call divert on' or something like it.
I was most pissed off, as per my previous post.
When I got home, I activated (via network codes) call divert to my car phone number, then sent the cancel network code to deactivate it.
Tested via home phone and it rang. It was active (screen on) and rang withing one ring on the home phone. So I pressed the power button and tried it. Same result, imperceptibly slower if it was slower.
I work in a pre-fab unit made from corrugated steel on top of a hospital (obviously some sort of rapid office space 'solution'), and whilst I get 2 to 4 bars of 3G in there, and seeing the issues whilst on GSM only, I am totally and utterly confused as to the cause of the problem!
The Kaiser is however, on probation. For now
Cheers,
Joe

Hmmm really weird! keep us posted on your experiences
I'm having major trouble with my phone and need some help.
I've got a standard Vario III no flashed roms etc..
When I'm on standard GPRS network the phone works fine, calls internet etc..
However whenever it switches to a 3G or H network I cant make or receive calls or use the internet. The funny thing is that when it tries to access the internet it looks like it connects but when you click on the 3G (with the arrows) it says there are no sessions active.
Help!!
yes.. i have the same problem too
so we must switch the band using gsm to get phone works normally. if we set AUTO it will failed to make call or to receive call.
another kaiser from my friend was normally in same area. please help us.. thanks
maybe I have the same problem, I can't make calls, when I make a call it do a sound alert and end the communication.
The line is ok, I was using it with other phone without problems. I spend today 5 hours with the mobile service provider (CLARO ARGENTINA) tech service and they finally say this must be a problem with the pda, not with the service (after testing all possible alternatives)
The phone is almost new! I can connect to EDGE and navigate the internet, H or 3G appear "some times" but it get EDGE 99% of the time.
When somebody call me the phone ring and then then lost connection. When people call me they receive a "network error".
1 of 20 times I CAN do a call.
Do you think is the phone? or there is some update ? I'm downloading a 6.1 rom to test with it.
it is not the phone. Assuming your are using T-Mobile, Edge network coverage is almost 100% complete, while T-Mobile's 3G network is in the early stages. So you will usually get Edge until 3G is nearing completion - T-Mobile is slow
Here is an article: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/05/05/t-mobiles-3g-rollout/
Well I use Claro AR (in Argentina). EDGE is 100% and 3G is quite well in my city, but what do you think about my phone calls are closed after 5/6 seconds with error and then it lose phone coverage. Never happened with other phone, same provider, same line, other phone.
Now I have updated to a duttys Rom with a newer radio version (1.65.x, my phone comes with 1.21.x) and still happening. Now I will test another rom
It IS the phone.
If you do a search on this board lots of people are having that problem, as I found when encountering it myself. It's a hardware fault in the radio part, that requires sending the device back to HTC. They actually replace the whole mainboard to cure it, so it's a serious issue.
Awaiting to receive mine back, it's been there for a month now
Here's a large thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335074
thank you
I force the phone to run under GSM network (not WCDMA) and the phone works perfect, internet too (only EDGE). But I can't use 3G because if I set it to WCDMA or AUTO in the phone network section, it's unusable.
That's the one. I'm receiving my Kaiser back from repair tomorrow, can't wait, and hope it will be fine this time... It's been at the service center for 6 weeks now
hello, any news ?
Yep, received it back like 3 weeks ago, everything works flawlessly. They replaced the whole mainboard just like for the other people with the same issue.
Ok I'm dead. Sending the devide to north america from Argentina? now way.
Why? I had to send it to the UK, not much of a problem...
and it back again to you? awesome!! not easy in latin america!
Ok I will call tomorrow the seller to ask the guarantee. let's see what happen.
Hello friends,
So I bought an Optimus L90 so that I could talk to my mother who had to go abroad using the Wifi calling feature. This should be simple but it's turned into a nightmare.
I do not have access to the device which of course makes it million times harder so someone else has to do everything for me. This is gonna be painfully slow! Is there an app that could let me control the phone like remote desktop sharing only, the other way around (use PC to access a cellphone?)
So what's the problem you ask? Let me explain.
When we turn on the WiFi calling and try to make a call. The device starts using a local network which basically tells us (in the local language) that you have to use the right area code and what not. Now this doesn't make sense. Why the hell is it hoping on to a local network? If we use a local network, it's gonna cost me an arm and a leg!
So then I asked my brother to use the third option which is:
"Never use Cellular Network:All calls are made over a Wi-Fi network. If there are no available Wi-Fi networks, phone calls will not connect."
In theory this should work by all means BUT, then the phone says "To make calls you have to turn off the airplane mode". The problem here is that the freggin airplane mode is NOT on. So I asked my brother to turn it on and then turn it off to MAKE SURE that it is off. Try the whole thing again and it keeps giving the same error.
So to sum it up.
When using the Wifi Calling Preferred option. It hops on to a local network.
When using the Never use Cellular Network option, it tells us to turn off the airplane mode even though it is not ON to begin with.
What am I missing guys? What the heck am I supposed to do?
I called the T-Mobile technical support department but naturally, there are bunch of idiots who can't even begin to understand a simple problem.
You guys are my last option here. Please, someone help!
My apologies for not having seen this post sooner; otherwise I would have answered it immediately. Wi-Fi calling requires a service provider as it would still use the plan's minutes. The only difference is the signal strength. Instead of relying on the strength of the cellular tower for making the call, it uses the Wi-Fi's router strength to determine how strong a connection it will have.
The only way to make a Wi-Fi call without the use of a mobile service provider would be by using an app such as Skype or Google Voice which still cost pre-paid minutes through those services.
You could browse the app market to see if any offer free VoIP service, but it's unlikely there are any that are free, or will not require mobile service.
As the message is being received in another language, I assume there's a different SIM card in the phone. While abroad with my T-mobile card, all the messages I receive are in English. Wi-Fi calling runs through T-mobile, and I suspect it's not working because of that.
As for the other options, Xanscorp is correct. Your best bet is Skype or Google Voice/Hangouts dialer. I believe calls to the US made through Google are free, however, but it will cost a few cents per minute (varies on the country) to dial anywhere else.
I'm not even 100% if the N4 has it so can anyone verify this? I have horrible service on the first floor of my house (especially my couch smh...) so I need to know that this works
If it's the T-Mobile version, then yes you have Wi-Fi calling.
Yes it does
I got the white note 4 from tmobile on monday. Yes it does have wifi calling. It works well.
WiFi Calling Not Working
Just got my Tmo Samsung Galaxy Note 4 today after Pre-Ordering and Jumping from the Note 3. Decided to go with the SIM Card that came with the Note 4. Got the phone all set up and connected to WiFi and received "ER081 - Unable to connect" Error. Called Tmo and after checking my 911 info and verifying the new SIM Card was registered and such I got patched to Tech Support and reverifed everything. Popped out the battery while he reconnected the phone to the Tmo Network, same error. I have the Tmo Asus CellSpot along with another router as well, same error on both routers. The funny thing is they attempted to send some type of Verification Text Msg and I received "Content not supported" on my end. Anyone else having simular issues? I have good signal throughout my house, its just the matter of a major feature not working on a brand new phone. Tech Support said to give it till morning and call back if it still is not working. I suffered from the same problem and it seems to be a permanent problem as no amount of help from T-mobile could rectify the issue....so the phone goes back to be replaced hopefully by one with a little more luck!!! Ill be interested to hear how you get along with it!!

I managed to find that using another phone as a hotspot actually allowed me to get wifi calling...strangely though the cellular signal did not grey out.....when wifi-calling is enabled as preferred on others' note 4s, do your cellular signal stay on too?!
My Wifi calling took overnight to become active, probably because I'm a new customer and my account was still being provisioned. I have both the Wifi and cell signals in my notification bar.
People with the ER081....
You can try to following:
If your connected to your Wifi Network.
Go to Phone - Setting - Call - Wifi Calling - Switch it off and then back on.
This would re-enable the wifi calling feature and you will see the error go away.
Not sure why it gives the ERO81 code, but I have it come up as well.

First thing I tried. No joy. But, the problem seems to be intermittent and not permanent for me.
My problem is a little different. I get the wifi calling icon, but when I make a call, the other party can't hear me. When I turn it off, everything is A-OK. I'm not sure how to remedy this.
Call t mobile and tell them when new Sim card was activated WiFi calling was not set up perfect. Then before last step tell them to refresh you on network.
NOTE 4
I had an issue with my text messages using the SIM card that came with the phone. I returned to the store and they told me there have been issues with those Sim cards that are ISIS enabled due to the security measures. They gave me a non ISIS one and now mine works flawlessly.
I'm getting frequent Er081's on my TMobile Note Edge. I've tried 3 different ISPs with speeds from 10m-500m, tweaked the QOS and COS on each, multiple wifi's etc.
It will usually initiate the call. But it won't be long before call just drops, anywhere from 15-60 mins in. My calls are always long (>30mins), and I've yet to normally terminate a call. Of course I'm now getting asked what's going on.
On one occasion, the ER081 stayed on the drop-down and wouldn't go away until I rebooted phone (Edge).
IMHO this is a wonderful feature, but TMo is not ready for primetime on this one? Is it true Note 3's and older phones work fine?

I am not allowed to have a phone on my job. But I CAN have a smart watch. So because it's a giant warehouse, it will be far away from my cell at all times. The cell can only be in the break room which is much too far away and my job requires me to be walking around constantly to manage associates.
SOOOOOO... What are my options within an affordable price range. I have an LG V10. I want an Android Wear watch preferred but not sure if I should get one that takes a sim card. So I can just pop my sim out and use it?
If I do get a WiFi-only smartwatch, do I just put both devices on the network and it will use that to send to my phone (the data or text) over WifI then my phone sends the message via network?
I WAS Looking at the Moto 360.
NEED:
Calls
Texts
Wifi OR GSM Connectivity
Bluetooth
NOT JUST NOTIFICATIONS! Ability to send!
