Don't buy it. Factory resetting should not break sim cards.

Would like to know this too.
On a tangential note, is ATT accepting unlock requests for this phone yet?

I was told by a store rep that ATT will NOT give unlock code until the entire contract finish...... Hope that's not true.

Hi guys Telenor Sweden has offered me a pretty good deal on the nexus 6 and I was thinking about getting the phone. But the contract interest my wife more than me, so I thought ill give her the simcard and unlock the phone to use with my tele2 simcard. Is it possible to carrier unlock the nexus 6 ? Any help would be awesome

Here in the US only two carriers lock the Sim it just depends on your carrier.
Not all Nexus devices are sold SIM-unlocked. When the phones were released, some carriers were selling the Nexus One, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus SIM-locked. I haven't heard of any N6's sold SIM-locked yet, but it could always be a possibility.

Verizon and ATT. ATT also has their logo printed on the back. Now you've heard.

You are correct!
(Although I wasn't specific in my post, I was actually referring to non-U.S. devices as per the thread title.)
I have a brand new att n6 thats still sim locked to att but im using it with att straight talk and its working fine. The factory warranty on this isnt up until next year. If i contact Motorola asking for a replacement will they give me a already unlocked n6 or a new att n6?
So, there's nothing wrong with your phone? You just want to try to score an unlocked phone? If so, despicable. Pay an unlock site $25 and be done. If my assumptions are incorrect, my apologies.

No i would never, just was curious
I thought all nexus come unlocked? I bought a nexus 5 from sprint worked flawlessly on Tmobile. So I assumed my nexus 6 from T-Mobile would work on anything. Put in a Tmobile Sim and see what happens lol
I have to buy a new phone and out of the phones I was looking at (Xiaomi Mi 9, One plus 7, V40) the V40 seem like a good device with good support inside the U.S.
I am trying to buy a sim free phone as when I was in Japan I had an issue with my phone being locked. I noticed there are alot of really cheap unlocked Sprint V40s on Ebay.
I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy one of these phones and pay someone to flash the U.S unlocked rom onto it. Also wanted to know if doing so would allow the phone to use the bands and frequencies of the U.S unlocked version. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
I did it and it's been perfect since
I purchased my Sprint Unlocked V40 on eBay too. I paid Vlad to unlock bootloader and put Android Pie on the phone. I haven't regretted it at all. I can't say for certain it has all the bands as the factory unlocked model, but it does use all the bands I need for ATT. 2, 4, 12, and 17.

Why not buy a cheap Unlocked v40 for the trip, resell it after you come back?

Okay good to know. But there are options and you don't have to be a d*** about it. If you have the ability you could buy one on a credit card to get it right before your trip, use it, come back. Sell it, then use that $ to pay off your card.

Sims lock is usually done by the carrier and it is unlocked when it is paid off.
So what can I do in that case?

Whatever carrier the phone was originally purchased on has a lock on it. If the phone has been paid off with that carrier you should be able to contact them to have it unlocked. If it hasn't been paid off with the original carrier then the original purchaser of the phone needs to have that done.
Most carriers will not unlock the phone unless it's been paid off.

Open a case with PayPal and eBay and get your money back. It's either a phone that hasn't been paid off yet, or a stolen phone.

I tried that, but ebay won't let me return it because of "as is " condition of the phone... What can i do? There's no way to unlock it and use it in my country? Dominican Republic.
If the device wasn't paid off then it's fraud and they will make good. There was / is a thread here about selling a device that wasn't paid off in full. Well this is what happens if you do sell or buy one in that state. Maybe you can call the carrier and ask if it's paid off. If it is they will unlock it for you.

Then you might have to call the carrier in your country to have the device provisioned for their network.

Ebay has a 30 day money back guarantee to protect the buyer. I've used this a few times, and they always get me my money back! Unless your past the 30 days, then you can file a paypal claim.
I have the same issue. It's a Google issue from what I hear. I got my unlocked new pixel 4 right from Google. Put in my ATT sim and it said "sim isn't supported, contact xfinity". Hahaha..
so I contact them and they send me a new phone. Same thing. This is a very new issue and I finally found someone asked the same question on Google assistance and it was said it was a google issue and they are trying to fix it.
What a crock... I can't believe Google's own phones don't work as they should.
Rest assured, its most likely not a stolen phone, or unpaid. It's a Google problem.

Are you kidding? Ok, rereading I see what you are saying. But they must have given you a reason as to why your sim doesn't work. Where are you located?
I didn't say Google sent me a stolen phone. Re-read the post and the link. It appears to be a Google software issue.
Have you personally experienced the problem? I have, as have others in the link I posted and the OP.

Post edited above. This is not a Google problem, imo. Where did you buy the device and which version. Perhaps you bought a Verizon model like some of the posters in the thread you linked to? This is not a known issue so you folks are doing something wrong whether it's buying the wrong device or your carrier doesn't support the phone. But it's really up to you at this point to figure out where you have gone awry.
