Simple csc change? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I purchased a usa gsm note 10+ unlocked. Since was going to use it on tmobile I set csc to tmb. Id rather get my updates via Samsung so v would like to change the csc to XAA so I get the samsung releases instead of tmobile branded. I tried searching for answer but couldn't find the post I followed before.
All I recall was I use a field code to get to the set csc. I dont think it was the imei one and if try to run
*#1234# I get the following
Running USSD code
then
Unable to process request

[Q] Product Code of GT-N7000ZBAKOR Means I have Korean phone ?

I've done the normal search thing and can't find much info about whether I have a Korean phone or not. I got the phone from Vodafone UK on an upgrade and am using it on Vodafone in the UK.
According to info I have found, the United Kingdom/Ireland product code should be GT-N7000ZBAXEU for unbranded or GT-N7000ZBACPW for Carphone Warehouse. I think my phone is 'unbranded' as it did not have any Vodafone bloatware on it.
No it's not a Korean version. It's just the CSC customer support code.
You can change that yourself if you want. In the phone app, type *#272*IMEI#
replace IMEI with your phones imei code. You will then see a list of service codes. I would recommend DBT for Germany. They get updates sooner
Thanks for the quick reply and helpful information.
-EDIT- For others reading this - changing the code using the steps above seems to reset your phone to factory defaults, losing all install apps and user data in the process (well it did for me when I changed from KOR to XEU)

definition of TMB/XAA/SPR

can someone please tell me the definition of tmb xaa spr in the service provider sw version please..i have a unlocked note 8 sm-n950U tmobile brand brought from samsung with metropcs service.im currently not able to use VolTE or wifi calling and other featured, I don't know why?how can I fix or flash to correct this.
Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated thank you
TMB is your active CSC. XAA would be the recommended CSC of your SIM card. SPR is the original CSC of the phone. Although it doesn't really matter, that means your phone was originally a Sprint phone which doesn't make sense according to how you stated you purchased it.
Only the first 2 are important. Metro PCS uses T-Mobile's network so TMB CSC is makes sense. You don't have VoLTE because you are running the unlocked firmware. Many people think it's better to run the unlocked firmware because of less bloat. However when you don't run the carrier's firmware, you may loose certain carrier features, like in your case VoLTE. IMO it's better to run the carrier's firmware & debloat it, unless you are rooted.
Unfortunaty with Oreo there's no way to enable VoLTE without root. Flashing your carrier's firmware should enable it. I'm not sure if Metro PCS has their own firmware, if they don't, flash T-Mobile's firmware.

Unlocking Samsung Note 9 N960U from USA in EU (SIM lock)

Hello everybody I have question about friends mobile. He bought it in USA from T-Mobile but now live in Europe. I think that there are 2 ways how to solve SIM lock right? First one: use some reliable but cheap service for unlocking by code. Second one: flash Android to global version? Can you tell me if it possible to flash N960U to some no SIM blocking Android? I flash some years ago some Samsung phones with ODIN, dont know if this can be used on phone sold in US.
I tried this https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/how-to/n960u-tmb-stock-odin-files-firmware-t3833205 but it keep asks me for unlock network code
Thank you for any advices...

maybe try n960u1 firmware instead of the regular U. use patched odin 3.13.1b to flash it.( and flash all 4 files not just the AP.md5....)
also I belive that it might be region locked. usualy to lift that a 5 min call should have been made on US soil with proper carrier sim. if he never used it on us soil then that might have been the issue.

A N960U1 rom might work. use the CCT csc for it to be completely carrier less. thats the "Unknown" variant as opposed to XAA which is USA unlocked.
use this to download the file faster than the freemium download speed on sammobile

they have the same files but depending on the csc it will load different configs for each. using CCT is the unknown variant so it should ask the sim card what region its in and hopefully sim unlock it.

the firmware file you dl is all the same regardless.
now on the device if you can manualy set the proper CSC code then yes that should work as you mentioned. but if nothing is modified, then system will just pick the appropriate or last csc that was set in root/efs/imei/mps code.dat
there is an other thread in the forums that has a procedure to force csc code for non rooted devices. it involves adb and flashing combo firmware if I'm not mistaken.

that very well may be the case. but at least before calling it quits might as well explore all available avenues.

Unlocked vs AT&T branded, will unlocked version support AT&T WiFi calling

With other S series devices there was a U and U1 model and only the U model supported AT&T WiFi calling.
Do we know yet if the same will be true of the S20 FE?
(As explained in other threads, with other S series devices it was the same hardware just different firmware and you can flash the phone to switch from one to the other)
I have the unlocked model from Best Buy and I'm on At&t. I don't see any option for wifi calling.
The Wi-Fi Calling app is installed on the phone, you can see the app in the list of system apps. I tried accessing it using Nova Activities & making a widget shortcut on the home screen but when I click on the icon it says permission denied. So it's there but Samsung / AT&T aren't letting us use it. I found this document, (I can't post the link since i'm a new user) google "service capabilities unlocked device att", which shows that previous unlocked Samsung Variants did not have Wi-fi calling on AT&T. Maybe there is a way to bypass the permission denied or access it? It's a deal breaker for me and I'll be returning the phone if it doesn't support Wi-Fi calling. I just signed up for a year of AT&T prepaid.
I was able to convert my Unlocked Model Firmware to the AT&T Firmware and now Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. It came with some other AT&T apps (Bloatware) but I don't mind since Wi-Fi Calling is a major plus for me. It's essentially an AT&T Branded Phone now except it has all the bands that the Unlocked version has.
Would you please care to elaborate how you did it? I’ve tried the typical Odin process with no success

Sure, First make sure you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed. You can find it on the support page of the S20 FE. I Downloaded Frija 1.4.2 in order to get the latest Firmware. Model "SM-G781U", CSC "TMB" for the U.S Version. As I understand the Carrier versions are all the same and will load up the correct one based on the sim card you have in your device. I downloaded Odin 3.14.4. Unzipped and placed the correct files into Odin, I did the non Home CSC file and left USERDATA blank because Samsung switches the version based on your sim card. Put your phone in Download mode. I got an error the first time but switched to a different USB and it flashed it to the AT&T version.
Thank you!

I've done this process numerous times (with success) but with this S20 FE from TMO the XAA firmware does not prompt me to reboot on SIM change (carrier change). I've found that this process works flawlessly to change the CSC:
Go to "Settings" then "About phone". Write down your IMEI Number. Open dialer and enter *#272*IMEInumber# (In the thread replace IMEInumber with your actual IMEI Number). Press dial, you should see a screen with the list of available CSC codes for your device. Select the CSC that you want and tap the Install option.
In my case, this won't wipe the data on the phone, your experience may vary.
Another note: if you're using the "U" firmware, a CSC change will prompt the installation of carrier bloatware upon reboot. If the "U1" version of the firmware is used, the carrier changes but without the added bloatware.

where did you download the roms from is it the same model as the regular s20 unlocked ones or ?
Can someone confirm the *#272*IMEInumber# does, indeed, work on the unlocked S20 FE sold in US? What CSCs are available? Can you really switch between them without losing data? Do any of the available CSCs have eSIM enabled? What about native call recording? Which ones?

No, use Frija 1.4.2. It has the lastest Firmware for the S20 FE.
I'm using an AT&T MVNO and I am able to get wifi calling. I popped my sim in during the setup process and it rebooted a few times. No bloatware or anything. I think as long as it's the first sim in the phone, it should do the trick.

You know what I needed to type to get unlocked U.S XAA? Been searching and no luck.

I have the SM-G781U1. Tried the *#272*IMEInumber# trick but after I change the CSC to XAA, the phone reboots twice and goes back to previous CSC (ATT) with no Wi-Fi calling. Also, cannot find any firmware for this model on Frija. What is the difference with the SM-G781U?

Last I checked there's none at&t firmware. You should wait for now. Terrible, At&t still don't play nice with unlocked phone.

So you were able to convert firmware on G781U1 to AT&T G781U for Wifi Calling? In regards to bands, if you switched firmware from AT&T to unlocked, shouldn't it also enable all the unlocked model bands?

I confirm what posted by Donatelloj. Starting from SM-G781U1, I installed firmware for SM-G781U (CSC TMB) with no USERDATA and Wi-Fi calling is working now! I had an issue with the fingerprint sensor not working but after 2 reboots everything looks fine. Now having troubles syncing Gallery with OneDrive but I believe this is a different story.
I've just installed unbranded Android 11 (G781U1UES1CUA2) on US unlocked SM-G781U1 and ATT Wi-Fi calling is working. No need for branded firmware anymore.

Force device to update carrier settings SM-G781U

Hello, I'm not a developer; I've never dealt with a rooted device, but Google, Samsung, Verizon and other sources were no help, so I'm here now.
I got a Samsung S20 FE from my old workplace which was previously locked to the ATT network. I am a Verizon customer so I wanted to switch over and I purchased an unlock code from cellunlocker.net. I've reached out to Cellunlocke, but they say the unlock was successful as it is connecting to the VZW network.
I did a factory reset on the phone, put in the Verizon Sim card, and used the network unlock code provided. The unlock said it was successful, but the phone powered on with the ATT logo and downloaded all the ATT factory apps. When I go into the phone dialer settings, it shows ATT video calling, etc... The phone software version shows ATT in the service provider sw version. But it makes calls, texts, etc. and the network settings show it's connected to VZW. The problem is, that it can't access my voicemail or use wifi calling because it's set with the ATT apps and features.
I've tried removing the sim, power cycling, factory resetting, even calling Verizon and asking them to resync the phone to the network. When the sim card is installed in the new phone, VZW shows the S20 as my device, but the phone still thinks it is on the ATT settings. I've viewed the Service Menu *#0011# and it shows that the phone is unlocked.
The phone is showing a service provider software version of
SAOMC_SM-G781U_OYN_ATT_12_0012
ATT/ATT/ATT
Is there any way to force the phone to reset its carrier settings or service provider software? Also, please keep it somewhat simple; I'm learning but not an expert here!
about the only wise thing you can do is download and XAA U1 firmware (Samsung non carrier firmware) flash that with Odin and call it good.
you're getting what you're seeing because the phone won't be able to switch to Verizon firmware as Verizon actually have their own unique version of the FE SM-G781V I believe with physical differences for Verizon's mmwave 5G and the U model can't reset itself to that.

So which firmware version do I need? The model printed on the phone is SM-G781u. SamMobile has 781O, B, U, U1, and V for the 781 model.
I'd love to have it without the bloatware Verizon installs, but I need Wifi calling to work and it seems to be a setting in the dialer, rather than the phone.

flashing V would be a bad idea, 5G wouldn't work, at least not well. so that leaves U1 which is Samsung unbranded, no carrier apps at all.

I'm looking at the instructions for flashing the device and the instructions say to turn on OEM Unlocking in developer options. I've activated developer options and USB debugging, but do not have the option to turn on OEM Unlocking.
I can't seem to find a way to unlock the bootloader.

to the best of my knowledge you don't need to be unlocked in order to flash signed, official Samsung firmware. many Americans have cross-flashed their phones and none of them could unlock either.
you're just booting into download and opening Odin, it's not much more than that.

Awesome, a flash using ODIN seems to have worked; the phone is active and not showing any carrier apps or splash screen. I'm having some other issues; can you suggest which firmware combo would be best?
I used Sammobile.com SM-G781U1 with Country Code USA (Verizon) (VZW)
OR I also downloaded Frija SM-G781U1 with CSC of XAA
Will I notice any major differences in them, or just try each one and check it out?
I am in the US, using the Verizon network. We do not have 5g in the area but the phone and our verizon plan is 5G capable and I would like the option if it exists somewhere I travel to.
I am in the UK, I shouldn't be telling you anything about what firmware is gonna be best over there.
other than U1 XAA I can't tell you much. also be aware that generally you can never downgrade your firmware unless it has the same bootloader version as what you're currently using...
if we were looking at my firmware version number G781BXXU4FVE6
I can only flash something that has a matching 5th last character, that's a 4 in this case. I can only download and flash older firmware if it also has a 4 in the same place in the build number. the phone won't accept anything else.
Sammobile is good for seeing what firmware exists but it's terrible for download speeds. I use Frija mainly but that only gives me the latest version nothing historical.
@3mel thank you for all your help! I've got this device working well on the U1 software and didn't have to reflash it; the rest of my issues resolved. Thanks for your patience in helping this newbie do things to a phone I never would have attempted otherwise!
