CSC Change

Hi everyone,
I've purchased a Korean Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950N) and rooted it with TWRP and SuperSu. Now I want to change CSC to Vietnam.
I already download 2 stock firmwares (Korean and Vietnamese).
Can you please guide me for next steps with Odin?

just go grab the S8 CSC changer and use that. All we have to do is add 1 line in one of it's scripts so that it will run on a device with 'greatlte' in the name.

Another user posted in one of the most recent pages exactly what needs to be edited for it to run on a Note 8. Super easy, takes 2 seconds to do, then you just zip it up again and flash/run it in TWRP.

It seems that this CSC Selection file did not work for me even I already updated the script file META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script with this code:

When I flashed zip file I got error no digest file found

I have this problem could not find any specific answer so far. I'm from UK with an international Note 8 (N950F) unlocked and want to use it with THREE, especially from the wi-fi calling. So, downloaded THREE firmware and after extraction, I got CSC and HOME_CSC among others. First, through ODIN installed HOME_CSC after reboot could not notice any difference at all, the mobile seems the same so decided to install the CSC which obviously wipe the Note. The same, nothing different on the phone. Lastly, I installed everything (AP, BL, CP, CSC) only that way I got Wi-FI calling but also many apps from THREE ( Deezer, Three, Three likes, Ebay, Amazon Underground, Prime video, Amazon MDIP, Operator Settings) and a horrible start-up boot logo and so on. Despite I got Wi-Fi calling I got more stuff and I am not happy at all. Thinking seriously to go back to the international version I had. Does anyone know why after changing the CSC was not any difference in my Note?
Find attached two pictures, first one shows the wi-fi calling option under Contacts-Settings using THREE firmware, and the other one is from the UK international firmware where wi-fi calling option is not there.

Khoanb1, Kett_Traveler modified the S8 CSC Changer zip to work for the Note 8 but only added the USA CSC to it because that's what he needed. I've since took his zip and added the Canadian Multi-CSC (XAC) for myself and the European Multi-CSC (DBT) for you. The European Multi-CSC (DBT) contains the Vietnam CSC (XXV). Download the zip from MEGA here and install it with TWRP. When it asks you which CSC to install, choose DBT, then choose XXV in the next screen to select your Vietnam CSC. Make sure to select XXV and not keep it at the default of DBT at the 2nd menu.
I've successfully used this zip to change my CSC to the Canadian one. Note that after the CSC change, your phone will factory reset itself and wipe all your data (if I remember correctly). So make sure to backup externally first if needed. After a restart, your phone will boot up with the proper boot animation for your CSC and you'll have all your carrier-specific features. For me, changing my CSC allowed me to connect to LTE networks which was not possible before (I was limited to 4G speeds instead). Also, the Korean apps that came with the phone are preloaded onto our system partition, so you have to delete them from /system/apps or through Titanium Backup. You can also freeze them if you prefer.
Note: I haven't tested the install with the XXV CSC so test it and tell me if it works.

Thank you very much for your effort and your thorough guidance. Your zipped file worked very well for my device and now I could have XXV CSC code in my Galaxy Note 8.
I can see some big changes:
1. boot logo is the same with Note 8 devices distributed in Vietnam
2. some apps were installed by default like these devices
3. Samsung Pay can recognise Vietnamese network providers (but I could not still use it because my device was rooted). If you have any idea about it, please let me know.

Great! I'm glad it worked. Unfortunately, Samsung Pay will not work because Knox was tripped. Android Pay still works though if you use Magisk root with Magisk Hide.
Right now there is no solution to Samsung Pay with root. In the future there could be some solution. I'm sure some creative person will come up with something eventually.

What will happen if I flash all tar files in the Vietnamese stock firmware to my Korean Note 8?
Will I get the CSC code like devices distributed in Vietnam? And will Odin allow me to do this?

Honestly I'm not sure if it's impossible. I'll let someone more knowledgeable than me answer that question. However the Korean Note 8 and the Vietnamese Note 8 are both running on the Exynos SoC, so it might be possible to switch firmwares with a lot of hard work and many problems. For one, the devices have different storage capacities and so will have different PIT files (the file that determines which tar image file goes where and how big it should be). Another issue is the bootloader (the most basic, low-level software of the phone that talks to the hardware to start your phone up) is different for the Korean and European models, so you can't flash the Vietnamese BL file on the Korean model. It would brick the phone if you did.
So in short, no you can't flash a different firmware. But, why do you need to? What's wrong with the current solution of switching CSCs that you just did? Is there still a feature you are missing?

i've used a similar file for the S8+ and my phone rebooted with a new CSC and the message "Android is updgrading"... but it did not wipe my phone.

It's only a question because I'm so confused if I can totally convert my Korean device to Vietnamese one.
You are right, so dangerous to replace bootloader even I already created backup for all partitions.

Luckily i found your thread up here, i'm a clueless Vietnamese when it come to rooting phone and other related things. I also bought an KR Galaxy Note 8 lately and have been wondered since then. Is there any other feature that missing on an KR note 8 to a distributed VN note 8?
Would you be so kind to instruct me install them just like you did? im a total noob here.

I have the N950F Exynos phone and want to flash the US Mobile CSC to get Wi-Fi calling. I don't have root and am in jail with the no oem unlock issue. I was wondering if I could just flash the CSC from the complete N950U firmware using ODIN. Or can you not mix the F firmware files with the U versions?
I saw the zip file to do the same but it requires root and TWRP to flash.
Not sure I like this phone being locked down. Very frustrating not being able to just root and install a working ROM without having to wait 7 days!

My phone are not rooted and i dont want to do it for the moment. dont want to increment the knox
I need the french CSC. If i downlaod a french stock firmware N950F and install it with Odin.
It will work without loosing my garante and continue to use samsung Pay ?

[Guide] Change Note 9 CSC Without Root - Easy Guide

I followed a guide by XDA User applepay from this link, but just wanted to try and simplify it because i found it pretty complicated to understand at first.
It would be worth reading that thread before this even if it doesn't make sense. Please also read this complete thread before you attempt it.
I have only followed the guide so i can't answer any questions to help. I am not responsible for any problems you run into. This is just a guide of what I did to get mine to work.
I was successful using my SM-N960F going from CSC XME to TEL.
I cannot confirm that this method will work on other models, but i don't see why not considering the guide was originally for a S9.
Make sure you select your exact model when downloading files and flashing files. Using other model firmware may brick your phone.
Backup your files! I used Smart Switch on windows. This method will wipe your phone in the process.
Use the original usb cable you got in the box and install the Samsung USB drivers if you haven't already.
I have confirmed on my device that OTA updates work fine after this procedure.
Please comment if you think there is a better way or there is an error in this guide.
Download your combination file from here
Download your new CSC firmware from here
Download Samsung Odin 3.13.1 from here
Download RealTerm from here
1. Open Odin.
Click AP and select your combination file.
Put your Note 9 into download mode by turning it off completely, then holding the volume down and bixby buttons while inserting the usb cable. Confirm that you want to enter download mode.
Click start in Odin.
Once this is complete, your phone should boot into the combination firmware and show your model number. Close Odin.
2. Open RealTerm and go to Port tab.
Set Baud to 230400 and Select Port to ssudmdm0000 or very similar name.
Click the change button.
Go to Send tab.
Enter "AT" and click Send ASCII.
If you get a response like
"+USB READY
BOOTING COMPLETED
AT"
or
"AT"
or
"OK"
or
"BOOTING COMPLETED
AT"
Proceed to the next number.
If you didn't get a response click +CR and send again.
If you get a response like "ERROR" proceed to the next number.
Still if you didn't get a response check your phone status and cable status.
If everything is normal proceed to the next number.
If still you didn't get a response it means your phone or cable is not normal status.
3. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=1,0" and click Send ASCII.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFIG=1,0+PRECONFG:1,???
OK
-??? is your current CSC.-
4. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=2,???" and click Send ASCII.
Enter ??? you want to change to another CSC.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFG=2,???+PRECONFG:2,OK
OK
-??? is your changed CSC.-
5. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=1,0" and click Send ASCII.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFIG=1,0+PRECONFG:1,???
OK
-??? is your changed, current CSC.-
6. CSC change is now complete. You can now close RealTerm.
7. Open Odin again.
Turn your phone off and then put it into download mode again by holding the volume down and Bixby buttons, then plugging the usb cable in.
Fill each field (BL, AP, CP and CSC) with their respective files from the firmware which has the new CSC.
Use the CSC file in the CSC field, not HOME_CSC.
Click start. This will now wipe your phone completely.
8. Your phone should boot into android and everything should be complete!
Enjoy using VoLTE, VoWiFi and RCS!

using n960f with n9600 csc
I have read about this procedure but i dont se any info from other providers than us, Im new about this procedure, i hope you can just help me to understand, i have a n960f and i like to have the csc info from a n9600, im from mexico so it will be great to get all my providers features (telcel) but im kind of lost because i have read about usa providers but no more info, thank you.

Odin still won't let you flash firmware files from an other phone model. which is a good thing since csc.md5 contains a pit file that is very much phone model specific....you dont want that. home_csc.md5 dosent but regardless Odin should still throw an error. I wouldint be game to test with the prince Comey edition of Odin that allows you to do this forcefully apply wrong model firmware file. might work... or not

how about future OTAs after ? if I flashed TMO csc will I get all TMO OTAs in future ?

My phone was up to date before I used the latest combination file for my model on that site. I didn't get any errors about downgrading.
As far as OTAs, I'm not sure yet, but worst case is you just need to flash new firmwares by Odin. I think it's definitely worth the trade off to get volte, vowifi and RCS if that's the case

someone please confirm that N9600 chinese snapdragon variant can have working Volte after changing CSC to any US version.
Why the Heck Samsung put region lock! if they do same thing on S10 then I must say goodbye to Samsung for ever!!

what odin you use for the N9600 variant does not work for me, none of them give me fail or port close

@laneyyy works on my S9 plus SM-G9650 but the AT+PRECONFG=2,??? the ??? Its the new CSC U want to change lol that's why my phone no change anything the first time sorry but I figured out now thanks

I can confirm it worked to replace the hedious Hong Kong CSC with a Costa Rica CSC, but just as others, I would like to see if I can use a firmware from US, meaning using a SM-N960U variant on a SM-N9600. Can someone please confirm?

nope n960n has no update yet. i check every 2 days using samfirm tool 0.3.6

guys just use samfirm tool 0.3.6 on your PC to check for the update. no need to ask or post if its out or not:
enter as device model:
SM-960N
And Region: dosent really matter but u can choose the carrier that the device is from:
LUC
KOO input this one if unsure
SKC
KTC
or choose the one with the latest fimrware/date code
(but rightnow only May is available)
check regularly as the app seems to connect to samsung servers so it will be the first place for the firmware to pop up.( and download speeds are fast. way faster than sammobile free or other crapy sites.)

(make sure your device is off before doing anything.) hold the following button combo: VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY and plug usb cable from PC to phone then release button when you see DL mode and press vol up to accept to enter it.
in odin:
to not reset/wipe data fill in all slots with unziped md5's from file downloaded with samfirm: BL, AP, CP AND CSC (use ONLY these 4 corresponding files*)
(* For csc: home_csc.md5 is to not loose data and regular *csc.md5 will wipe clean.) (userdat.md5 is korean bloat, skip it not needed if you are not on korean sim carrier)
if you are on a custom rom(rooted device) and just want to update bootlaoder and modem to latest, then flash only ;
BL.md5 and CP.md5 in the according slots.
flashing official firmware and components like this dosent trip knox or voids warranty so its all safe.

try to install the KOO firmware. i believe it is the "unbranded" firmware for korean n960n devices.
be careful of personal data if you try. using the method described above to flash with odin.( the part when using csc.md5 file because i might wipe data from phone. but it might also remove bootlogo and more bloatware apps from korea)

I tried flash trwp crownite and failed at flashing via odin, i think is not working for now (pie)
This is my buildnumber N960NKSU2CSE3 this for baseband N960NKOU2CSD2 if i download KOO firmware
which one should I choose? Buildnumber or base band?
Btw i got firmware KOO but unziped file i get 6 fil, AP, BL, CP, CSC, HOME CSC, and USER Data how i must input User Data File to?

I'm in Korea too, using an unbranded KOO N960N (exynos). It seems like the update is unavailable in this region. I left a question on the Samsung Members forum, and it seems like they're saying the night sight camera mode had some pretty large bugs, so they have to fix that. Also, the night sight camera update was just released for the S9 series, so hopefully it shouldn't be long before we can get it for the Note 9.

Also, checking the latest firmware for N960N in SAMFIRM results in the same firmware, an outdated May 2019 version withOUT night sight camera. Looks like we will have to await the official release ...
This sucks because my Mate 20 Pro takes absolutely stunning pics at night.

moreover you might need to install samsung android drivers. you can search for them on xda or you can install samsung smart switch. it has the drivers built in. the software is useless it is only being installed for the driver package.

just got the update with night mode and july security - n960n.

I am also a N960N user, cheers！

No carrier logo on KOO, but the phones are more expensive. No bloatware whatsoever.
BTW, we just got night mode a day or two ago.
The night mode is still 2 or 3 generations technologywise behind the Mate 20 Pro, Im gonna have to sell my device so if anyone in KR wants to buy it, leave me a PM.
Its in pristine condition with 6 cases

u have to flash a minimum of BL AP CP CSC
there will always be some carrier bloat leftover. the only way is to root and install a custom rom to get rid of everything.

Changing CSC to enable VoLTE and VoWIFI

Hi there,
I'm about to order a Galaxy S10 directly from Samsung since they are way cheaper than what my carrier sell them. But, when I do my carrier tells me that VoLTE and VoWIFI will not work on Android phone bought from other than the one they sell...
I've read a little bit and it seems that I'd have to change the CSC of the phone, I've chatted with samkey about the particular model and it's not supported, because of bit 4 or something like that. Anyways, I've downloaded samfirm and found the firmware for my provider "VTR" but it seems that all firmwares from any provider in Canada share the same thing because what is getting downloaded is a "VLS" and the CSC one is "OYV"

I need advise to modify the firmware or options in my new phone to make it look like it's coming from my provider (Videotron) and when I insert the SIM (with NFC+VoLTE) in it I have a chance that the option will be available.
I'm an IT Specialist, I've flashed my old S7 with those files before with no luck. It's the same story with the S7, bought from Samsung, initialized with an other provider SIM though. Then flashed the phone with my provider CSC got a proper SIM card and I had them enable VoLTE on my line, but the option never showed up. I'd like to be able to enable it on my new phone, that's why I'm doing research before getting my hands on it.

Can't you just download the video tron firmware and flash it to the phone with Odin?

I sure can, just wondering if it's gonna work since last time I did that on my S7 it didn't work.
I downloaded the firmware using SamFirm v0.5.0 for 2 providers, VTR (Videotron) and RWC (Rogers) two very different providers and I compared the two CSC files using sha256 and they are both identical (I didn't test the big 5G files though, but they have the same exact file size). So I'm wondering if I'm even downloading the right thing now. It's probably multi CSC. Then does the stock Canadian Samsung firmware the same as the one I'm downloading?

It should tell you on sam firm what firmware you need to download or if you're running the current stock firmware, then just look in settings to see what base band you're on and go from there. I wouldn't flash rogers if you have another carrier, that may cause some issues.

Thanks I'll look into it a little more when I actually receive the new phone from Samsung. I wasn't going to flash a Rogers firmware, I downloaded it to do a compare and check to see if they actually are identical to VTR ones and they seem to be identical, at least the CSC files are.

many folks have found that buying direct from samsung doesn't guarantee the phone will work.
several on xfinity mobile found out the hard way.

How To Guide [GUIDE] How To Flash Official Samsung Unlocked BloatFree Firmware

Did you just get your shiny new S21 Ultra? And the first thing you noticed is tons of preloaded carrier apps that can't be deleted? This is how to fix that.
Convert your phone into the one that would come from Samsung directly with a simple firmware flash!
BACK UP YOUR PHONE! ALL DATA WILL LIKELY BE WIPED!
You will need an SM-G998U/U1/W
Computer running Windows
USB-C Cable for your PC to Phone
This is only for SM-G998U/U1/W
Step 1:
Download the ROM of your choice. The firmware number does NOT need to match your phone, as long as you have an SM-G998U/U1/W
From each link, click the latest firmware in the list (what ever the top one is) and on the page that loads, click the blue button that says "Download from website"
(You can only download one in a 24 hour period so choose U1 or W wisely)
SM-G998U1 (U1 is unlocked, no carrier bloat, US radio bands)
SM-G998W (W is unlocked, no carrier bloat, Canadian radio bands)
The only main difference between the two is the Canadian W Firmware supports all radio bands aside from (n260, n261), the file size is a little bigger and will take up a fractionally larger amount of space on your phone as a result of also including all CSC's, but will allow your device to connect to any tower frequency with the correct SIM.
The U1 Firmware supports all US bands and works across all Canadian carriers, but does not have any Carrier CSC's as a result of the smaller file size.

Best measure is to use the W Firmware as it will be supported, but if you are positive of your carrier will work and bands are the same as US carriers, use the U1 to save some space.
Step 2:
Download Odin 3.14.4 and Samsung USB Drivers
Step 3:
Extract all of the .zip files that you have downloaded, and install the Samsung USB Driver
Step 4:
On your S21 Ultra, enter download mode by turning the phone completely off.
Once the phone is off, hold the volume up AND down at the same time, and without letting go of those buttons, plug a USB cable in from the computer to the phone
Do not let go of the volume buttons until the Download Mode screen is displayed.
Step 5:
Open Odin and make sure the S21 Ultra comes up as one of the COM ports
If it doesn't try rebooting your computer, and then connect your phone again
Step 6:
Click the BL Button, and select the BL file you extracted from the Firmware .zip
Click the AP Button, and select the AP file (This will take awhile, do not touch anything, don't even click your mouse or try to do anything else on your computer, it can crash, just wait, make a coffee or something, because depending on your computer specs, it can take up to 5 minutes to load that file
Click CP and add the CP file
Now this last part here, you have a choice, however I strongly recommend you do not choose the second option at this time, however you CAN, but you might face stability issues.
When clicking CSC, you can EITHER add the CSC file, which is what I recommend, OR you can add the HOME_CSC file.
The differences between these files is that the CSC file will wipe your phone, but this is recommended, because when you are switching firmware's from a different carrier build, which we are right now, you want to delete anything left over that could conflict with the new firmware being flashed, however, you CAN flash HOME_CSC which will keep all of your user data on the phone, but this could leave old firmware files behind that could cause stability issues with your phone, crashes, force close apps, or even boot loops.
It's recommended to ONLY use HOME_CSC when you are UPGRADING on the same build (eg, if you are on SM-G998W and UPGRADING to another SM-G998W firmware)
So if you are going from U/U1 to W, it's recommended to use CSC, if you are going from W to W, Home_CSC should be fine, if you are going from W to U1, you should use CSC.
Step 7:
Once you have made your choice of either CSC or HOME_CSC, you can now click Start and it will start flashing the new firmware.
This process will take a fair amount of time, go relax and enjoy that coffee you made while the AP file was loading.
Once the flash is done, it will say Pass in green, and your phone will reboot automatically into your new official carrier bloat free firmware.
If you picked CSC, you can now setup your phone just like a new phone and restore your backup, if you picked HOME_CSC, you should be at your lock screen, and the phone is ready to use.
Congratulation, you are now on the Official Samsung Firmware with no carrier bloat as if you bought the phone directly from Samsung.
Troubleshooting:
If you used CSC and the phone did not pass and says FAIL, try the flash again with HOME_CSC, once the flash passes, you should be back at the lock screen, go to settings, search for reset, and do a factory reset, wipe all data because something did not flash correctly the first time so you need to wipe the phone after the successful flash to guarantee no stability issues.
If you used HOME_CSC and the phone did not pass, use CSC and the phone will be wiped when it flashes, and you need to set up your phone like new and restore your backup during the setup screen.
If it still fails to flash both CSC and HOME_CSC, Download Mode probably timed out from your computer taking too long, at which point, you can try doing Step 6 BEFORE Step 5.
Turn your phone off completely, load all of the files into Odin, THEN enter Download Mode and immediately click Start to start the flash. This will give you a little more time for your computer to make the flash and hopefully download mode will not timeout, if it still fails, try a faster computer or a different/shorter USB cable.
If you are with Bell in Canada and you did not get the pre-order bundle promo E-voucher prompt from Samsung Members App, flashing the SM-G998W firmware linked above will fix this and you can redeem your e-voucher and get your headphones and smart tag.
This is a video I made on the S20 Ultra for flashing One UI 3.0 Beta/Stable, however the process is identical, just use the files from here instead of the ones linked in the video description
I will be replacing this video with a dedicated S21 tutorial once I have have finishing editing the new video, but for now this will give you an idea of how it works until 5:30 in the video, after that it's mostly related to One UI 3.0 Beta/Stable for the S20 so there's no need to watch further than that as the S21 would be done by that point in the video.

No problem with KNOX.
But majority of bloatwares are issued of CSC carrier brand and it is impossible to change csc without root or using samkey...
So this firmware will be like other versions with same samsung apps unless I'm wrong.

If I may, I'd like to post a correction on the state of the supported frequency bands on Canadian and the US firmware:
- The U1 firmware doesn't only support T-Mobile bands, it also fully supports AT&T and Verizon frequency bands, which includes their unique LTE carrier aggregation combinations as well as the 5G non-standalone combinations with n5 and mmWave. That's in addition to T-Mobile's combos with n71 and n41, in both non-standalone and standalone environment.
- At the same time the Canadian W firmware doesn't support all 5G bands, it completely disables mmWave (n260, n261), which means the US devices with this firmware won't be able to access this super-fast flavor of 5G on any US network. It also doesn't fully support all US 5G non-standalone combinations in FR1 (Sub-6 GHz) range.

If you're running a multi csc firmware (the one's linked above) you can change your csc by opening the phone app and dialing *#272*YOUR IMEI NUMBER# and from there you can pick the firmware CSC and carrier CSC to be whatever preinstalled apps you want. The W firmware has all of the preinstalled which is why the file size is larger.
As for the Samsung bloat, they all come with it, but a lot of these should be able to be removed using ADB without root.
There are some ADB scripts around that some skilled people wrote for removing bloat apps in bulk through ADB without root.

Thank for you posting this @bANONYMOUS. Question if I buy the the U1 model can I flash the W firmware? My father is in Canada and I'm getting an early Bday present for him. Making sure when he gets it, that it will have the correct bands for Rogers!

Is there any qualcomm firmware that has an FM radio app?

I purchased from the US and flashed the XAC firmware. The final result was XAC/XAC/XAA is that correct? I thought all blocs would be XAC.
Also, I wasn't sure if repartition should be checked or not so I unchecked it.
No VOLTE or WIFI calling on koodo.

I bricked my device today so I'm trying to flash stock OS.
I started flashing it in odin, but it seems it gets stuck on "<ID:0/010> vbmeta.img" for few minutes.

I got a VZW S21 ultra and was thinking of doing this. Do all of the Verizon features work, like wifi calling, hd voice, rcs? and unlocked features like caller id, samsung cloud, call and text on other devices?

Wi-Fi calling in volte work. Samsung caller id it there and I was able to configure it. Cloud was as well. Call and text is and I configured it but my tablet does not support it yet.

Well, based on what my unlocked note 9 has:
Under the phone app settings there should be a setting for caller id and spam protection
Under system settings in the accounts and backup section there is should be samsung cloud,
Under system settings in the connections section there should be call and messages continuity.
These are all options I have on my unlocked note 9, but not on VZW FW S21 Ultra
