[Q] All Home launchers crash when creating shortcuts

*crap wrong section, mod plz move, sry all*
Is anyone else seeing this? Its fully rooted, everything works perfect, but Ive tried 4 different launchers now, and all of them crash the home screen (screen goes black after hitting "create/addshortcut", then resets to the home screen) when I create a shortcut.
I can put everything on the desktop other than shortcuts.
I first noticed it with LauncherPro when I was trying to change shortcuts on the toolbar (to get rid of the phone, contacts, etc) and every time I would try to change it, it would crash, but I was able to change the icon.
GDE is so far the only one that allows me to change icons on the tool bar, but still crashes if I try to add anything to the desktop.
I hope its something stupid Im missing, although, I have found ways around it, its jsut something thats botherin me like a pebble in my shoe lol
Well there is something missing on the NOOK that prevents this from happening. No home app will bring it back. I think the missing component is called "picker" or something like that and just like the market and other Gapps, someone will have to figure out how to add it.
Ah ok, as long as its something thats not working as intended. I must of missed it reading along here somewhere. I did find a way around it with Zeam and App organizer
Zeam allows you to drag icons to your tool bar, then you can drag them from the tool bar to the desktop with no crashing.
And app organizer allows Widgets that act as folders to be created, and widgets have no problem being added
Or you can just hold onto the program icon for a few secs and that will alow you to drag it the desktop.

I'm able to drag apps straight from the app drawer to the desktop with Zeam. Perhaps you're talking about something else though.
I found a work around for this. Since I've seen the question brought up every few days, I'll make a wiki article on this as well.
Requirements:
Desktop Visualizer: http://www.appbrain.com/app/desktop-visualizer/jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr
Icons for the shortcut you're making [not necessarily required, you can pick an existing app and use that apps icon for the shortcut as well]
Steps:
1. Long press desktop on launcher of choice
2. Add widget
3. Pick the desired widget size from the Desktop Visualizer options
4. Set your icon in Desktop Visualizer
5. Hit the Select Action button in Desktop Visualizer
6. Hit 'Other'
7. The menu you're now at should have the options that would normally be accessible from the shortcuts menu
8. Find the shortcut, finish up in DV, and voila, you're done.
Great tip, thanks ! Used it to toggle WiFi AdHoc/WiFi AP
Proxy Settings are not available
All shortcuts except the Proxy Settings shortcut are available.
Does that mean there is a way to access the WiFi settings directly ? Can only toggle so far.

Dumb Calendar Question?

I don't use a Calendar so pardon this dumb question. From time to time I will hit or do something on my phone(I got no clue what I did) and the Stock Calendar appears, what causes the Calendar to pop up like that?
Thanks

This what I am trying to figure out. So I posted here asking if there certain things "built-into" the phone that was used to make Calendar popup. Like is there some "shortcut" that causes this. It seems like I touch something on my phone screen and it pops up just not sure what I have done.
Thanks

Are you using a custom launcher or TouchWiz? On LauncherPro, you can customize a swipe action on the dock icons. Only thing I can think of is IF you were using a custom launcher and a swipe action was set to open Calendar.

Do you have a clock widget that also displays the date? If you do, they usually default to the calendar application when you touch the date, and the clock application with you touch the time.

Thanks that was it. I have Beautiful Widget Clock and Touching one area makes the Calendar pop-up.
Thanks again

[Q] [HOW TO] Create alarm shortcut in homepage

Hi,
is it possible to create a shortcut to alarm app (the original one, inside clock app) in homepage??? it would be very useful for me....
I'm using GB 2.3.5 with GOlauncherEX (and don't want to change it)
Thx
Got it!
You can do it with this: QuickShortcutMaker
This application let you create a shortcut to nearly every activities. And the alarm is an activities, not an app (as long as I understand)
With ADW EX, there is a way to do it without using a separate app. GO Launcher EX may have the same thing. If you long press on the desktop and select custom shortcut. Then you select "Pick your activity". Once the list loads, you can find the clock app, expand out the list of activities, and then select the alarm clock one.
^^what he said. I think most Launchers allow this. By the way OP, if you use the stock Clock/Alarm app a lot, i highly recommend 'Alarm Clock Plus' from the market. It's fantastic.

I used ADW, and did as you suggest to create a shortcut....now I move to GOlauncher and I didn't find a way to do the same
Yeah, I haven't used GOLauncher, so I have no idea how (if possible) to do it.
try this widget,

MIUI and Desktop Visualizer

Ok, so I wanted a better email app than the stock MIUI one, and everyone keeps recommending K9 mail. Thing is, I hate the app icon for it. I worked out that I should be able to use Desktop Visualizer to create a shortcut on the desktop which points to K9, but uses another icon.
Thing is I can create a widget using DV (Long press on screen, select DVwidget etc), however I can't place widgets in the launcher bar. I tried opening the DV app and trying to create a shortcut that way, but when I hit 'Ok' to complete the operation, nothing happens. It just returns to the homescreen and no shortcut is created.
To further complicate things I have had this work once. It just randomly appeared on the desktop a few minutes after creating it, and I was able to move that into the launcher. Now I want to change the icon (again) but as you can see, I'm not having much luck.
Am I missing something here? I know MIUI doesn't have shortcuts on it's desktop, but if that was the case I don't see how I could have got it to work at all?
Any thoughts?

Yeah, i'm thinking how an app icon can invoke such a strong emotion as hate for it. Could we get a screenshot? Share the hate
I do agree that the icon is kinda ugly .
That is a terrible icon ...

U can't put Widgets in dock for miui roms... Just Apps... Hope it helps...

What i would suggest (this is what i used to do while using MIUI), is to use an application called "App Drawer" meant specially for MIUI.
Link t=1154299http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299
it is only as it states, an app drawer like all regular android phones.
This way you will have a dedicated app drawer & this will help in not cluttering up your home screens.
All icons on your home screen can be inserted into a single folder as these are the actual apps & not shortcuts.
Deleting would mean uninstalling.
so use the app drawer, send the shortcuts to your home screen & use any app for changing the icon like the ones inbuilt in ADW, Nova launchers.
...or you could just swap out the k9 icon for one you like. Use a theme (or make a blank one if you're fond of default) and theme the app name icon with a mail icon (or any icon) you think is nice
theme mtz - icons folder - use a .png and name it com.fsck.k9.apk
(if that doesn't work, the real app name is com.fsck.k9-1.apk)

[Q] Zooper Widget Pro refresh

Hi there
Setup is the following:
Device: OPO of course
ROM: stock CM11S (4.4.4.)
Launcher: Buzz Launcher 1.6.6.04
Zooper PRO & Zooper Free
As You can see from the attachment, there are two "time" widgets:
Both are created from Zooper's template.
Both widgets have absolutely the same settings and attributes.
The only difference is that one is created via PRO and other via FREE version.
The problem is that ANY widget that is created with Zooper PRO doesn't update/refresh properly - You can see from the attachment that the PRO widget hasn't been updated/refreshed.
The only time when it DOES refresh is:
upon reboot
when Zooper PRO is opened and closed
Any reason why you have both the free and pro versions installed? This might be the cause why one updates and the other doesn't.
Does the pro version update when you have only the pro widget? Does it update when you uninstall zooper free?
I use zooper pro.

I uninstalled them both and reinstalled PRO: it seems to work now, just that sometimes widgets disappear: for example, I have 3 Zooper widgets on one screen, when I edit one of them, the other 2 disappear sometimes. Wierd

That is weird, indeed. Haven't seen this behavior. Might have to do something with launcher cache or something. Or just Zooper trying to update the modified widget and canceling out the other ones while it's doing so.

It isn't just "canceling" other widgets, it's actually deleting it entirely. For example, AFAIK, when you have a widget from application "A" on your screen, then you uninstall that application, the widget CONTENT is deleted, but the "silhouette" of the widget still remains, saying something like "cannot find application", or something like that. What I'm experiencing with Zooper is a situation that, sometimes (randomly maybe), it deletes the CONTENT of the widget and also deletes that remaining "silhouette" itself.
What I know for sure is that there isn't any ROM-related error, cache error, or anything like that - I flashed (fastboot) all the partitions from the official factory image, so everything on that side is ok.
What You sad is what I think also: kind of heavy" editing - when, after editing, you exit Zooper widget menu, and do it over and over again, edit-exit-edit-exit... it automatically updates every widget everytime it exits, and maybe there is that random error that happens.
Workaround: full screen widget (excluding notification bar and dock). But as I read on few posts - it gets kinda buggy if put fullscreen. But will try it nonetheless.
For now, thank You anyway
