can it record calls? - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

can it record calls?

Not by default, but I'm sure you can use an alternative dialer.

Don't be so sure about it. Most (all?) recent Samsung devices have a nice native call recording feature built in, the problem is, it is usually disabled by the CSC settings in most countries, and can't be enabled by the user unless you can change the CSC to one of the countries it is enabled on, or got root. I've been looking for a 3rd party app that would do the trick on Samsung devices before, and NONE of those would record both sides of the conversation in all conversation modes (regular, speakerphone, wired headphones, bt headpones).
PS: Don't count on it unless someone here EXPLICITLY tells you "yes, it works, this is how to make it work".

So no way even with custom dialer

That is weird... On my v20 i used a custom dialer to record calls, no issue.
Just a Samsung issue or something new? My last Samsung phone was a note 4 (rooted) and I've owned lg/pixel between.

Likely varies per vendor, may differ between ROMs (kernels) too, but its not like we have a huge variety on this one.
I wouldn't count on any of the 3rd party recording apps working until someone actually TESTS it.
... still thinking if i want to buy the S20 FE or not, gonna miss the root access and the ease of enabling this kind of features with it.

I have a s20 FE 5g with CSC malesya. I'm recording calls with cube acr and IT WORKS.

i have the S20 5G FE in the USA and i was also able to record calls using cube acr. My phone is factory unlocked

Bit offtopic RANT, but I just don't even care how it is in EU regarding call recording with s20FE anymore. There was all the adverts about colors before lunch, but snapdragon version is only available in dark blue, way to go Samsung Czechia.
Thank you for the info, as if it works in USA it will probably work everywhere

Works for me using the Truephone app

Acr nothing = not working
True phone just mine side = not working, auto recording does not start

Morning guys, quick query on Cube ACR
I just installed it. The voice of the other party is bit feeble as opposed to mine Is that normal?
Since you are already using it, can you please tell me which recording settings work best for capturing the other party voice? so basically the three settings below:
a. Phone recording audio source- which option to keep?
b. Phone calls clarity improvement- do I keep it MAX?
c. Force in-communication mode- do I enable or disable?
Thanks in advance!

i only installed it to see if it works and then immediately uninstalled it as i dont have a need to record my calls. Uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it if its giving you issues. Thats always a first step for me when troubleshooting an app that is just behaving weirdly. We can go from there if its still problematic

There is no problem as such, the app is working fine, it’s just that the voice of the other party is weak. So someone using the app can confirm if that’s the normal behaviour of the app or any combination of settings (the 3 fields I mentioned earlier) which can improve the voice quality of the other party. Thanks for your response though ?

HI, I do not use acr cube anymore because it doesn't have a good quality. I CHANGED CSC and I have now csc thl from Thailand with native call recording. The quality is top. It is possible to change csc on s20 fe 5g.
Basically there are two ways: 1) Buy a Thai sim card from ebay and then put the sim inside your smartphone and start a factory reset. Probably before this you need to flash a thl samsun firmware from sammobile.
2) This is what I did. Buy from ebay 3 credit of samkey. Download from samkey the software for changing csc and use it. If it doesn't work before the procedure 2 flash a thl sammobile firmware, after that check the csc, if it is still not thl start the 2 procedure.
Hope to be helpful.

I use cube acr as well and I don't seem to have issues, lucky maybe?

I'm using Boldbeast recorder. My phone is unrooted at this point, I have the AT&T USA version. To get both sides clearly, what I have to do is wait until the call is connected and then press the record button. Otherwise the other side is faint. At least this works.

I will want this. Can anyone else confirm it works with at&t s20 fe on at&t?

Using Cube ACR with S20 FE 5G on AT&T works great. No special settings, make sure you install the connector app.
My only gripe is that sometimes the app doesnt get the ID of the caller correctly in the call list. I suspect this is to me not using the Samsung contacts app as default though.

It does work it's the wifi calling which doesn't actually record which is a pain as have it turned on.
With THL trick as described earlier, you have native call recording from both sides. You have wifi calling and VoLTE, too. The only thing that I missed is the RCS chat messaging.
Chat messaging is working with Google's android messaging app , but not with Samsung's.
Can anyone, who made the THL change, confirm if he has RCS chat message working?
Samsung Note 9 EUR/THL, EUR/EE
And is amazing that OTA updates are working normally!

call recording is not working

Hi, I have downloaded an app called Automatic call recorder by appliqato.
I used this app before with no problems on my previous phone (mi a1).
But for some reason, now it is recording but with no sound.
Any idea why?
Thanks a lot!
Maybe it worked on your older phone because it had an older android version. It appears goolag has decided that we won't be allowed to record our phone calls under android 10. That is until they change their mind.

Yes you are right, My old mi a1 was on android 8 when I used it.
do you know of any way of enabling it?
maybe with root?
or by downgrading android?
It's really important for me to record calls.
edit: I read a little bit and found this: https://www.boldbeast.com/forum/topic1877-android-10-call-recording.html
this app does work if you enable the accessibility setting, but for some reason, the other person is not as loud in the recording as he is when talking to him, but it's close enough so I will take it
Almost any custom MIUI ROM has such function by default.

You have to use the apk from the website, not the playstore app!
From the official boldbeast website:
No root needed, but special operation needed
In some countries in some phones, the call recording feature of Android 10 is disabled but Boldbeast Recorder can bypass the limits to enable it. Please:
- Confirm you are using Boldbeast Recorder V12.9 or a newer version.
- Tap "Settings - System - Accessibility" in your phone (not in Boldbeast), enable Boldbeast Call Recorder on the screen.
- Tap "Set Default Settings" in Boldbeast Recorder.
Then it works at once, both your voice and the caller's voice are loud and clear in recordings, no root needed.
For example, Android 10 phones like Galaxy S10, Note10 etc in many countries work great this way.
The voice of the other person on the line is a bit weak, but usable.
On my rooted phone, both voices are equally loud & crystal clear.

None of them work fine, the other person's voice is always too low. The in-built one (the one you need root for) works great though. If I was being picky, I wish it recorded in MP3 or similar instead of AMR.

I'm having an issue of incoming calls
it dosen't show as a banner on top when i'm on another app (Youtube or whatsapp video call), the incoming call take all the screen fully and when i mute it i can't hear anything from the other apps (youtube or whatsapp caller) until the incoming call or the caller cut the line.
Is it the same with everyone?

You should be able to back to your original EU region .I changed it several times without any issue. Just do not forget to see what is your original region before changing it .It should be marked with green color .I did not checked if ota works but maybe if it does not work, just revert back to the original region and do ota,Then change the region again.

All Samsung phones have call recording built-in since last 2-3 years incl S8/9/10/20/21 and their variants and M or A series of last 2-3 years at least incl M31 etc.
Before that I had been using some apps I think on S6 and such but it was frequently a headache with issues like low volume of other person voice etc.
Now it works perfectly

Google has not removed the API, as the ability to record calls, starting from Android 10 for countries where it is not prohibited is still present. But ACR from the Galaxy store (not Google play) uses a workaround for that (maybe with Samsung's permission or support). This can also be seen from version: ACR version 35.0-samsung-unChained.
BTW, and in my country is not allowed to record calls (EU) unless the invited person is notified that they are being recorded.
So neither does my S20FE, out of the box, have the ability to record calls.

From your link:
ACR Unchained version 32.9 or above is required. Google Play version of ACR will only record silence. This is because Google Play Store's terms prevents us from using a special service needed to record calls on Android 10.
So we can use ACR version 35.0-samsung-unChained from Galaxy store (with special service needed...).

you already posted that, the link was more about the things you said hadn't happened, even though you mentioned they had to be worked around.
HI, All,
I get the native call recoding by simply flashed through Odin the latest Indonesian Firm. I bought the device with Aug1 Firm. Country Bulgaria.
Everything works just fine. No issues with the bank app and NFC at all.
I know this is somewhat of a dead thread, but I wanted to confirm that even the unChained version may or may not work; on my S9 (Android 10) the unchained version didn't work at at recording the other party's voice. I then factory reset to another CSC and it worked, so it seems to be dependent on the country code somehow...
