Update problems - Magisk

I also posted this in the general support thread but there are simply too many comments and nobody replied to mine.
Magisk Manager kept crashing on open, so I tried to update it but then it started complaining that it doesn't support the actual Magisk version in use (which is quite odd). When I tried to update that, everything broke:
ALL settings and modules are lost
The /system partition seems to have vanished: mount: can't find /system in /proc/mounts
Link2SD can no longer mount my second partition usd for app storage, I can mount it just fine manually but that doesn't help if it's expected to be there at boot time
These are pretty major issues. I had to restore a backup from both the boot and system partitions to get a working Android again.
Also, the Manager has a lot of trouble starting up. It will be stuck on the splash screen and I have to close it and reopen it twice/thrice before I actually get to the app. And then I have to get lucky and not have the Manager crash on me.
A logcat from around the crash:

[Q] Editing framework-res.apk to remove Carrier name from Notification bar

I'm having issues modifying framework-res.apk
I already checked some of the other posts and guides.
I'm working on a Motorola Backflip running j_r0dd's Preclair v1.0.3
I just switched my carrier from AT&T to T-Mobile.
I get stuck in a boot loop or get no results at all depending on whether I push or copy/paste the new file and whether I do it when the phone is running or in recovery mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is what I had posted on modmymobile.com:
Ok. I'll try again. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it goes.
What about signing? If I am using App Manager can I just recompile and sign with App Manager? I am about to try this. I'm performing a nandroid backup now. I'll report back how it works out. The only value I changed was the onsText maxLength value from 18 to 3.
1. I decompiled with App Manager
2. I edited the status-bar.xml file.
3. I choose 11. Compile apk option in Apk Manager.
4. I answered Y to system file and to the option for the keep folder.
5. I deleted status-bar.xml and the resources file from the keep folder.
6. I pressed enter to continued in Apk Manager
7. I selected 12. Sign apk option in Apk Manager.
8. I am now pushing the framework-res.apk to the phone in recovery mode
9. Restarted just fine but no changes have taken place.
I checked the file sizes of the original and the modified framework-res.apk files and the original is 2899KB and the modified is only 1731KB. After I changed the file and rebooted the one on the phone was back to 2899KB.
I'll try copying the file with root explorer instead of pushing just to make sure it is overwriting.
After this operation I get this in the logcat:

When I reboot I get that second loop over and over while the motorola "m" is on the white screen.
I'm not sure about motorola but on the hero and many other devices, the carrier name is in the eri.xml. I'm with cellular south but I always put my wife's name on her phone.
Did you add the necessary(original) amount of spaces when hex editing that file?
I'm with dean.d though. Mine was in eri.xml too
are you both on CDMA phones? The text fields are T-CDMA. Is this just generic or does it refer to CDMA only? I'm on a GSM network.
From my understanding with 2.1 for the Backflip Motorola set the carrier to always show in the notification bar. Maybe its in the moto-res.apk file...I'll look there.

[Q] Can't develop on Omar's ROM

Hi !
Today I started learning apps development on my RAZR i. Everytime I compile my application with the Android SDK I get these three lines :
Installation failed due to invalid APK file!
Please check logcat output for more details.
Launch canceled!
With a ZTE Blade running CM9 it's fine.
Maybe it depends on the ROM you're using, can someone develop on Omar's ROM ? I'm too lazy to go back on stock and test again (anyway i want to keep this ROM).
If you can help me...
Thank you in advance :fingers-crossed:

I'm just beginning in Android development. I have only the basics in Java and Eclipse. I don't know how to enable x86 compatibility in the IDE. I did some research on google but didn't found anything. I though a "hello world" would be compatible with all Android device (arm, x86, mips, powerpc..).
Well, is there a way to enable x86 compatibility ?
Thank you !
I also develop on Omar ROM - without problems. Can you check what logs do you get ? (to check your logs to to "android-sdk/platform-tools", open console there, and write |adb logcat", and then try to install your sample application and copy logs). BTW. x86 compatibility is unnecessary when writing app in java with android sdk (only native code needs that)
I'm sorry, i don't know how to format correctly the logcat, it's really unconfortable to read. Thank you for trying, i'm currently searching what's going wrong there.

chmod 644 that file.
Well... I'm trying to chmod this but "file doesn't exist", even if i'm doing this just after exporting from Eclipse. Instead, I tried to copy the .apk generated from the /bin/ project path to the phone, I install it manually and it works just fine. Can't do anything else for the moment :/
Hey, I remember now. I've had this problem in the past I don't have a solution, but I have a workaround
# cd /data/local
# mv tmp tmp-old # (or # rm -rf tmp)
# mkdir /mnt/sdcard/tmp
# ln -s /mnt/sdcard/tmp ./tmp
Just move/symlink the tmp directory to the SD card. Since SD card is formatted as FAT, it does not have owners/permissions and all files created there are always readable by everyone.
Thanks ! It solved my problem !
Now I'm encountering some issues like "Segmentation fault" and stuffs but I'll try to make a new project. Tthe app installed and launched once. Nice workaround
Edit : I'm only getting "segmentation fault" in the Eclipse console ._.
Edit : In Eclipse, go to "Project", then click on "clean"... Worked for me. I hate Ecplise.

Disable Xposed (or its attachment) for certain apps

Hi all,
I have been using Xposed (v58/54) on my Android 4.4.4 device and I'm really satisfied with it.
I have one question that can make me even more happier.
My cable provider ships with an app that allows you to watch live tv on your phone, but Xposed seems to interfere with it, or make it trigger some kind of protection.
The app tries to read some class and because Xposed is installed, it's stumbling upon the XposedBridge and it crashes. I think the logcat output will help you understand:

If I disable Xposed, the app works again. But it's not very convenient to disable Xposed and reboot only if I watch some tv.
So my question is: Is it possible to disable Xposed, or its attachment, for certain apps or processes?
I understand if it's too low level to selectively enable/disable the framework; then I'll just have to live with it.
I tried decompiling the app, but dex2jar and/or JD can't handle it. Perhaps the culprit is even in a native library.
Thanks in advance!
I second this question as I've been trying to get this app working on my rooted device for a while.
While old versions of the app wouldn't even start at all because of them checking for root ("which su" command) on startup, I suspect the issue now lies with detection of Xposed module(s). See the line from dev_freak's logcat:
Code:
05-30 16:00:12.267 8899 8899 W System.err: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: de.robv.android.xposed.XposedBridge
I see that error in my log as well (the app starts and works fine, until I start a stream to watch, and I get a message "Sorry, the video cannot be played at this time. (4101)").
So, I naturally tried the IrdetoFix Xposed module that supposedly could counter the issue. But while the XposedBridge.jar error indeed disappears, the app crashes on startup:
Code:

Note however that this could also be because of any Xposed *module* (i.e. Xprivacy was mentioned) rather than Xposed itself.
While I don't know what that IrdetoFix module does exactly, I suspect it intercepts file requests to XposedBridge.jar? According to this, the XposedBridge.jar should be located at /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/bin/XposedBridge.jar. However, in my case (XposedInstaller 3.0_alpha4, on Android 5.1.1), the /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/bin/ dir was empty?
With the IrdetoFix module disabled, when I copied /system/framework/XposedBridge.jar to /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/bin/XposedBridge.jar, the error disappeared (I think the check passed), but instead I got:

So, could either Xposed be outfitted with a dummy XposedBridge, or could the IrdetoFix module perhaps be updated, if at all possible?

But while the XposedBridge.jar error indeed disappears, the app crashes on startup
While I don't know what that IrdetoFix module does exactly, I suspect it intercepts file requests to XposedBridge.jar? According to this, the XposedBridge.jar should be located at /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/bin/XposedBridge.jar. I have tried copying XposedBridge as well, but I ran into the problem that /data/ did not appear to have any folders inside of it(maybe hidden?), and I could not create one because I didn't have permission. How would I be able to do this ?
Also, did you say that the app worked completely since the check succeeded?

You'll need to mount the /data as RW, you'll probably need a root explorer for that (I use ES File Explorer's Root Explorer feature). Be careful though, as doing something wrong in that 'hidden,read-only system' part of the filesystem could make Android not want to boot again.

Nope, the app doesn't work completely. Logging in & browsing channels would work, but whenever I'd want to start an actual videostream, it wouldn't do that.
Contact @rovo89 since it is his module.
What is the latest on this issue? This has been killing me for months now.
hi guys,
I'm equally annoyed by the fact I must disable xposed each time I want to watch tv and btw why isn't there a disable/enable switch in xposed_installer? or is there?
Anyway, I decided to have a look at the old IrdetoFix module and thought maybe a patch would help. Since XposedBridge.jar is now located in /system/framework, I changed line 24 in the source to:
Code:
dexPath = "/system/framework/XposedBridge.jar:" + dexPath;
and I linked the module with a newer api lib file api-53.jar
I'm testing this with Android 5.1 and Horizon Go app. Unfortunately still getting 4101 errors. Logcat gives this:

[ROM] AOSP Marshmallow 6.0.1 | MoltenMotherBoard

Hi, here's the AOSP Marshmallow ROM that I would like to share with the community.
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=57323
Thanks for the ground work they had laid out for P880 and Nexus 7 (2012).

Changelog
20170307
- Android-6.0.1_r79 (MOB31T)
Complete changelog

Issue
- MHL/HDMI does not work (by @juantech)
Repo patches made available in 2nd POST for
- lge-kernel-p880 from CyanogenMod
- platform_device_lge_p880 from MoltenMotherBoard
SELinux for Marshmallow
Release 20160626 is SELinux clean. Google Marshmallow android_external_sepolicy and android_external_selinux source git repo remain pristine without downgrading the rules and policies to Lollipop/Kitkat level. Only the sepolicies of device tree are updated.
To enable SELinux Enforcing, do this from recovery
Code:
$ adb shell mount /data
$ adb shell touch /data/.selinux
$ adb shell umount /data
Recommened GApps is modular GApps from @Deltadroid, or OpenGapps stock. google-webview is a *REQUIRED* component. The minimum required GApps to be installed (which is how I test my setup)
- gapps-base
- gapps-exchange
- gapps-chrome
- gapps-gmail
- gapps-maps
- gapps-search
- gapps-tts
- gapps-webview
- gapps-youtube
This is based on Grouper blobs, so as usual barcode/QR scanning will not work and will not consider this as bug. However, Grouper blobs works with Screen Cast, which for me, is more useful than barcode/QR code scanning.

Perhaps I will finally be tempted into a custom ROM
So far, P880 serves me as an alarm clock, unfortunately.

Edit2: I found the solution. Install rom, boot and open developer settings(If you are using OpenGapps download and install Android System WebView too). Then install gapps. Boot again rom you will see "setup has been stopped" error. Connect your phone to pc. Open an adb window and type this 3 lines
Code:
adb shell pm grant "com.google.android.setupwizard" android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
adb shell pm grant "com.google.android.gms" android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
adb shell pm grant "com.google.android.gms" android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION

Impossible to start the installation process, after you set the wifi, I jump the notice google play services has stopped. Impossible to move forward. I tried to do it several times, but no way.
Imposible, al empezar el proceso de instalación, despues de configura el wifi, me salta el aviso que los servicios de google play se ha detenido. Imposible seguir adelante. He intentado hacerlo varias veces, pero no hay forma.
@CrazyWinner: I don't get any of those permission warnings. You should install GApps right after flashing the ROM zip file without booting the ROM, all in recovery. You should also wipe data//cache/dalvik-cache to start at clean state. The apps will ask for the permission when they are 1st invoked after 1st boot.
Here's my logcat I just capture from reboot to SIM PIN entry, none of the error showed up.
Code:
$ adb logcat | grep "AndroidRuntime"

@jrcquinito: Did you get the minimum GApps list installed in recovery? Check my reply above. I have been able to gone through Setup Wizard twice, with or without setting up Google account.
Apparently. this is AOSP. It got to work with some GApps before the 1st initial booting. I am only testing deltadroid modular GApps, unfortunately.

I tried. But TWRP gives "set metadata recursive some changes failed bad=4" error if rom is not booted. I tried a lot of things , it finally booted and working fine. Thank you for your hard work
PS: Sorry for my bad english
I use the CWM recovery. It is from the official CWM for P880 with updated kernel. I got no errors on install ROM zip or Deltadroid modular GApps zip file.
I still prefer CWM traditional non-touch interface to TWRP or the touch-based CWM.
After install rom go to reboot meny and select reboot bootloader, after reboot install gapps and after reboot in rom. It's for twrp

To avoid unnecessary problems, you should expressly written in the first post on how to install.
CWM or TWRP does not matter if the installation script is properly prepared.
Hey @csk1jw, I did a clean install of this rom last night via cwm with delta gapps and everything seems to work fine. The only problem I have is the sdcard which is not recognized by the phone or when I plug the phone to my pc. The sdcard is perfectly working otherwise, I checked it with a sdcard adapter.

Did the phone offer to format the SD card? If it did, please backup the data on SD card to allow the phone to format the SD card. I haven't checked out SD card functionality myself yet. Did Android M even offer the option for standalone or adoptable on using SD card?

There was nothing related to the sd card when I installed the rom. Everything went fine and the sd card is still recognised in cwm. I can tell you that on alfasamsung's cm 13 I always had sd card functionality.

Alright, I will check it out. Could be something with init or fstab.
@Mentah: Thanks for reporting the issue with SD card. It is fixed now with the updated rootfs. You can apply the fix I attached. I had verified it myself that Android will prompt for SD card notification. It should be simple and does not require going through the initial setup. You just need to flash it from LG fastboot.
Code:
$ and reboot oem-unlock
$ sudo fastboot flash boot boot.img
$ sudo fastboot reboot

@csk1jw Thank you for looking into it, I will try the fix tomorrow and report back.
Uploaded new build for SD card fix.
No way, I'm back down the rom, rom and install only after the gapps, reboot several times ... the notice has stopped google service installation fails.
No hay manera, he vuelto a bjar la rom, instalar solo la rom y despues la Gapps, reiniciar varias veces... del aviso que se ha parado el servicio de google no pasa la instalación.

so, now you have BC06 after all?
how a new firmware recognize RAM (3 or 4 Gb) and camera (5 or 16 Mp)?
can you make some screenshots with system information?
maybe did you detect some bugs?

I updated the MONTANA_RETCN_DRIVERS.zip file.
Could you please reinstall the rom stock of the montana and flash this via TWRP Recovery and tell me if your wifi works?
I'm trying to make the front camera recognize the 16mp but it's only recognizing 4mp, if I change a /lib/hw/camera.msm8937.so by the motanaretcn the camera does not open, I think the problem is exactly that file, but I can not make it work by using this file simply from forced closing.
Could someone help me or advise me?
