Hi all, today i bought redmi k20 pro (Indian). Bootloader unlocked.
Now, i want to flash twrp but i don't know which one is best? Official or unofficial? And which version?
I don't want custom rom. Need only rooted official miui rom.
Also want to pass safetynet. As of now, not rooted.
Thanks
My K20 pro will reach to me by 2-3 days and I too want to know which version of TWRP is the most stable for this device. The only difference is, I am planning to unlock the BL and flash EvoX or PE as soon as I get my hands on the device. I will try to find out the most stable TWRP for MIUI 12. If I find the answer, I will post here. Thank you.
Update: The official TWRP is the one developed/maintained by @mauronofrio
Link: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/raphael/twrp-3.4.0-1-raphael.img.html (TWRP 3.4.0-1)
You can also use https://eu.dl.twrp.me/raphael/twrp-3.4.0-0-raphael.img.html (TWRP 3.4.0-0)
You can use any of the two on MIUI 12.
For miui, go for orangefox 11, has ota support

Decryption is supported on Android 10 based ROMs I believe. Not sure about Android 11 though. You can ask the developer here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-t3944363
you can use mauronofroi'twrp, then go to latest ofox.
use my guide if you like https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/simple-beginners-guide-to-raphaelin-t4020543
and yes android 11 has dfe support and working magisk
The best "TWRP" is the OrangeFox Recovery, because its based on TWRP, but have many feature, what not contained in TWRP.
Decrypt/encrypt support, theme support, OTA support, force disable stock recovery, so you won't has problem and you will have many customization option.
1. Unzip the zip file what you downloaded through OrangeFox's xda thread and copy the img - which is in the unzipped file - to the adb directory.
2. Remember the name of the .img, because you will write this in the command
3. Follow any instruction which is write down recovery install with adb method
4. When you will write the last command, change the end recovery.img for your download file's name.
Should looks like this, for example:
./fastboot flash recovery orangefox.img
5. Reboot to OrangeFox Recovery, the recovery will automatically reboot again and it will installed.
6. Ready to use when booted up.

Hey,
So I am new to this and I want to make sure I don't break anything.
I have the Mi 9T Pro with MIUI Global 10.3.3.0 (PFKMIXM). I am not sure if its the Global or the EEA Version (?) How can I see?
I did not yet get an option to update to MIUI11 unlike many others either. I did unlock my bootloader.
What steps in which order do I have to take to get LOS17? I also want to have root and TWRP.
Can someone guide me through this step by step? Would really appreciate.
The "instructions" in the LOS17 thread are pretty minimal and not very detailed.

The ROM is global, so I assume the phone is too. In PFKMIXM look at characters 4 & 5. MI = global. For EEA these would be EU (CN = China, IN = India).
I don't think MIUI 11 has been released for the global ROM. AFAIK this week was only the European ROM that got updated to 11.
To install LOS you would need to install MIUI 11 firmware & vendor first (these can be flashed on there own or you could install a fastboot MIUI 11 ROM)
The LOS 17 OP recommends keeping these as the original region of the phone. In this case you will need to wait until global MIUI 11 arrives.
However, you would, in all probability, have no issues if you went with European MIUI 11 ROM/firmware instead.
The decision is yours, if you want to keep things 'proper' then wait for global MIUI 11 before proceeding. If you're happy to go with EU firmware then we can give you an overview of the process.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful.
Is there any information when MIUI 11 will be released for the global version?
Also can I already install TWRP? That should not have any effect on the ROM flashing process, right?
If so, how do I do this correctly for my current configuration?

I've not heard anything about the global release, but as someone that doesn't use MIUI I don't go looking for information, so there could be some info around. Apparently there's no noticeable difference between EU and global versions for this phone, so now the EU version is released I don't think it would be too long for the global version to appear, but that's pure guesswork.
You can install TWRP now, it requires adb and fastboot. If you don't have these on your PC then search the xda forums for 'minimal adb'. The official post will give you all the details. Ordinarily whenever you boot MIUI ithe system checks the integrity of the recovery partition and, if it has changed, it will restore stock recovery. Therefore immediately after installing TWRP you'll need to install Magisk, which will then automatically protect the TWRP installation.
Copy your Magisk installation file onto the phone
Boot the phone into fastboot mode and connect to the PC.
To make life easier, copy the TWRP image file to the same folder that has adb and fastboot and rename the file as TWRP.img
Open command prompt and navigate to the adb/fastboot installation folder.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
If you're using PowerShell then you'll need to qualify the location of fastboot and TWRP
Code:
.\fastboot flash recovery .\TWRP.img
When that's finished and still in fastboot mode.
Press and hold the vol+ and power buttons.
Keep holding both until the phone vibrates and the initial splash screen appears.
Release the power button, but keep holding vol+ for a second or 2.
You should now have booted into TWRP if everything went OK.
Go to install and select the Magisk installation file on the phone.
Confirm the selection.
Once that's finished you can reboot the phone.
If all's OK you should now have TWRP and Magisk installed.

Alright. Thanks for the instructions, I will try this.
Just to make sure: Is this the correct TWRP image: TWRP 3.3.1-22 Unofficial by mauronofrio ?
Where can I find the correct magisk files for my device? Do I need magisk or magisk manager?
Would be sick if you could link me the correct ones
Cheers

EDIT: JUST READ THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH MAGISK 20.1 AND MIUI 11.
DOWNLOAD MAGISK 19.4
That is the correct TWRP.
Only ever get Magisk from here
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
There are no device specific versions, just one size fits all. Download the latest 20.1 Magisk installer zip to flash in TWRP. It will install Magisk and Magisk manager at the same time. Also download the uninstaller zip at the same time, just in case. If, for any reason, you need to uninstall then it's there ready.
If you need to know more about Magisk, follow the link on github to the xda official thread, it has very good information.

when i wanted to flash lingeageOS it always rebooted back to recovery and said that no OS is installed. so i gave up on custom roms.

I am in the same situation,
ie. I have a Note 11 Pro without NFC
[Phone code: SPES ]
• bootloader unlocked from Xiaomi (after 7+ days waiting)
• running MIUI Global 13.0.15 [ RGCMIXM ] , Android v 11 RKQ1.211001.001
I have following TWRP
- twrp-3.6.2-12.1-21.06.22
- twrp-3.6.2_12-0-spes-Jabiyeff
and I tried to flash TWRP in fastboot (below), but it always fails and does not work
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
I'm used to flashing TWRP and ROMs, but it's been a while since I touched a Xiaomi device,
so I am wondering is there anything different that I need to do ?
also, any 'new methods' for flashing Magisk ?

so, you flashed TWRP recovery, by booting the TWRP from your PC ?
OK... I can try that.
exactly. i connected with adb and checked with adb devices, then pushed the twrp image to the phone and booted off of it through fastboot. if it works booting off of the img it's pretty safe to flash
To flash a custom recovery on Spes, you need to first run the following command in fastboot on the pc:
fastboot boot XXX.img (this is the name of twrp/ofox/Shrp image)
then inside the recovery, you must go to advanced and select the option flash this twrp, with that the recovery is installed by default. But remember that every time you install a new rom, the recovery will change, so you should flash twrp every time you finish installing a new rom.

This is actually pretty tricky. I found 5 different recoveries for spes/n:
OrangeFox-R11.1_A12.1-Unofficial-spes.img
twrp_v.3.6.2_11_spes-2022.08.14.img
twrp-3.6.2_12-0-spes-Jabiyeff.img

and the one and only working one:

Only with this last one I was able to successfully decrypt my existing (PIN protected!) data partition of the following ROM I currently use: MIUI Global 13.0.13.0 (RGKEUXM)
I hope this helps anybody.
Also I just installed Magisk 25.2 zip via this TWRP version and its working like a charme.

Both the TWRP 3.6.2-12.1 and TWRP 3.7.0_12-0-spes works on my phone (SPES Global)
I am on android 12 version of MIUI 13. In fact I used the TWRP 3.7 to flash MIUI13.EU 13.0.5 A12 ROM and it works.
The two versions above can decrypt my phone without any problem. MTP also works in recovery mode.
Your phone is using Android 11. Probably that's the reason the TWRP versions I've mentioned above does not work for you.
I tend to agree with NeoSDAP.
I was using pixel experience ROM for some time and I tried to update to the latest plus edition. The installation guide recommended full format data and flashing. I did as instructed. Now I'm stuck in booting into TWRP recovery. I looked up a few kinds of stuff and none of them worked. Is anyone else facing the same problem? has anyone got a working fix? I tried removing the TWRP folder, re-flashing TWRP with TWRP and orange fox recover, and then flashing ROM. non helped. got a broken phone now any help is appreciated.

AOSP roms can be under ANDROID 11 or 12 or 13.
PixelExperience
Android OS version: 11.0.0_r40
The first version is in A11 and since August in A12
Version: 12
File name: PixelExperience_raphael-12.1-20220820-1826-OFFICIAL.zip
I had A12 then. I flashed pixel experience 12.1 on May 28(PixelExperience_Plus_raphael-12.1-20220528-1605-OFFICIAL.zip) and it went thru just fine. Now the updates of 8/20 bricked the phone.
After format data, I get the Readonly info screen, I swipe to allow modification, side loads the latest download PixelExperience_Plus_raphael-12.1-20220820-1448-OFFICIAL.zip, and restart, but back to TWRP recovery.
Some things I tried
0. https://wiki.pixelexperience.org/devices/raphael/install/
1. https://www.getdroidtips.com/keep-booting-twrp-recovery/
2. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/pixelexperience-stuck-in-bootloop.4435533/ ( it's shown for beryllium but I did for Raphael code with all files related to Raphael version such has recovery and pixel exp. img file
Any other flow I can try to get it fixed ?
I'm thinking to reverting back to MIUI is nth works.

Wipe everything, system, vendor, internal storage, dalvik, cache via advanced wipe, then flash firmware and vendor or if your rom has included firmware then just flash the rom directly. Try to boot into OS if it still bring back to twrp then again repeat the above steps and this time flash stock vendor and firmware from mi website and try to boot into OS.

All the best
yes using the team win version of TWRP. Used Orange Fox recovery. ( nice look and feel and features btw). But they didn't work either. What could I try more? Could I be able to revert back to MIUI stock ROM ? let me know if you have good resources. Thank you very much for your time and efforts

Back to MIUI
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
flashed stock miui rom for now. Will tap into pixel rom in few days.
now that I think, I think I did a blunder, thinking I was in A12. Can you point me to A12 firmware for Redmi k 20 pro? I"m looking into https://miuirom.org/phones/xiaomi-12, but they seem to be recovery and not firmware. I'm not sure if recovery comes with firmware. As I need to format to install, will the firmware stay or not?

Xiaomi has stopped updating on Android version 11.
Which rom do you want to install?

Why bothering to manually search here and there for official ROMs
Install the app:
MIUI Downloader - Apps on Google Play
MIUI upgrade app for Mi users.
play.google.com
and the app will show you links to download the latest Global, EEA, etc, zip/recovery or tgz/fastboot, or you can scroll through the older versions and pick an older if you wish
Btw, latest are MIUI 12.5, A11 - there are no official A12 ROMs for Mi 9/Redmi K20 line of models
Even if they receive MIUI 13, it will be (for some already released, but eg China only, etc) it will be A11
Same issue, I guess this is it for me. Time to buy a new phone rather than accidentally losing data from time to time with custom ROMs. I wonder if they didn't know such issue exists before releasing it to the public.
Hello dear forum
Just got a huge problem, after installing twrp, i wanted to update from Miui13 to Miui14.
it chopped everything up a bit. But then finally done with a message, see attachment.
Since then I can no longer do a normal restart, the phone just hangs in fastboot mode.
Tested a fastboot boot twrp.img, no success.
Does anyone have advice for me?
Which TWRP(full name)?
this one
twrp-3.7.0_11-0-star.img
i test now a recovery flash with Mi Flash Pro, i thing is the one solution.
Are you sure of the version of your device, Star and not Venus?
Anyway you used a TWRP A11 while the system is A12.
try flashing the correct TWRP A12 again.

Installation:
Phone in fastboot mode
Cmd:
fastboot boot twrp.img
Power shell
./fastboot boot twrp.img
then in Twrp go to Advanced -> flash current TWRP
If the TWRP flash works:
TWRP/wipe format data type yes reboot TWRP.
Sideload or use OTG for flashing the rom.
If nothing works use Miflash.

Miflash does not require Xiaomi account only MiUnlock.
But it was like that, maybe the Pro version.
now currently I come to the Chinese Recovery 5.0
What is the best thing for me to do?

If that didn't work use Mi Flash (dont relock the bootloader).
Phone starts only in Fastboot

now the phone has reset itself
So install everything again from the beginning, hope it works directly with Miui 14.
Which twrp should I take A12 Or A13?
