Switch default camera from WIDE to TELE - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi all.
Mi8 has 2 rear cameras: WIDE and TELE.
How can I switch default from WIDE to TELE? I need this for apps that haven't option to switch cam.
My fw is Xiaomi.eu chinese version, unlocked. No root. I can install another one or root device, if necessary.

Camera swap issue (front with rear)

Hi, I've got a big problem.
One day I tried to take photo and I noticed that my cameras options are changed.
I've got all options from front camera using rear camera and vice versa.
I tried factory reset, hard reset, software change (global, global dev, china stable, xiaomi.eu) and nothing... Still same, but on china rom photos were taken. On other roms picture taken by front camera (with rear camera options - zoom x1) are like that:
I can't paste link here But its a lot of colorfull lines
I remember that they before that I taked photos in manual mode (Pro mode) and switched lens to tele ( I tried to make macro picture) - it was my last normall picture. Now I can only take pictures in normal mode using 2x zoom using front camera or back camera (which is always like 2x zoom)...
I also tried tap kernel info few times to make diagnostic but when I click rear or front camera option there is an error: "cameralist not match". When I change into Portrait mode in rear camera I've got "Can't connect to the camera" error.
I really don't know what I should do with that, maybe try to change a kernel or something ?
My Mi8 is a global version 6/64
I can't find anybody with problem like this

Camera limited to 8MP

While the Honor 10 Lite is advertised as having a 13MP main camera, I noticed that while in default photo mode the camera is limited to 8MP only. The only way to enable 13MP is to switch to Pro Mode while all other modes max out at 8.
Is this a bug or an intentional limitation?
Hi,
If you disable AI mode on top right, you will be able to choose 13mp in settings, I don't know why they put this limitation

Stock camera problem

Guys I have a European z20. The system camera crashes when I try to change from main camera to wide angle or zoom on the tip and shoot. In pro mode instead it works regularly. Anyone who has the european z20 confirm it to me as a bug? Thank you

mi a2 gcam front camera only 5mp ?

Is there anyway to use the full 20mp in front facing camera.. All gcam takes default 5mp by pixel binding.. also flash didn't work like stock... It acts like a torch while capturing photo

Click to collapse
i am using miui 12 pie and both stock and gcam are working at the same time .....
both have their advantages....
1. gcam uses pixel binning ( combining ) them
_so your camera is not really using 5mpx ..it is using max pixels merged into a 5mpx output_
_this might give you a good or better looking photo than some 20mpx sensors on some phones
_people use gcam because of Google's theoretical excellence in processing photos *** therefore better photos than stock ... because if you feel.stock has better photos than there is no argument for using gcam
2. gcam mods which allow you to choose to manually force the gcam to use the secondary ( aux ) exist ...you can use it in combo with magisk modules
_dont expect a giant leap in photo quality since our aux sensor is for low light ...and was never meant not even by Xiaomi to act as the main shooter
_stock camera changing between sensors automatically while in gcam.you will. have to.do.it manually _
_VERY IMPORTANTLy ...our aux sensor is NOT api2 compliant only our main sensor ...as per Xiaomi ...so Xiaomi needs to fix that if it can be fixed....that is why our phone isn't released with api2 enabled..
Options:
1. Use magisk module in stock rom to get stock camera
2. Use stock rom to use miui 12 pie to get both stock and gcam working at the same time
3. Use gcam with aux sensor select button in settings to activate it manually in custom rom
4. buy a jasmine or wayne device and donate it to gcam.modder or dev stating your wish that he/she fixes it so it runs how you feel.it should run
I'm pretty certain this info is old and if you looked you'd find all the magisk modules and gcams and mods and info floating around ...
go check out the official gcam mods page for devs working on cams for our device and try them.all to find the one you like best and maybe give them.a small donation
try out the stock cam magisk module to see if it works correctly on custom rom
failing that just your miui with magisk to have it all.
Stock makes great depth of field photos imho
Gcam takes richer photos in general like but if you aren't careful you might run in oversaturation ..more options
_you can enable arcore and ar stickers by magisk mod and using patched playground from gcam mods page
This doesn't seem to be a GCam issue... All camera apps just see 5MP for the front and secondary back camera. It's probably an internal issue with Camera2Api?

[Q] Does anybody know any app/flashable mod that allows for manual controls on the Telephoto lens? (No Live Focus exploit.)

Google Camera and Open Camera cannot even access the Telephoto lens. The stock Samsung app only allows you to use the Telephoto lens only during daytime, at night it defalults to digital zooming and also there is no lens switching in the Pro mode.
The only way of using the Telephoto lens is to go to Live Focus and set blur to 0. And you can't even zoom further in that mode.
HTC, Sony, LG, etc. phones allow manual mode on all of the rear cameras.
Is there any flashable modded Samsung camera that allows full manual mode on both rear cameras? Or an app that has deeper control over the cameras?
Well... It would be nice to have manual on the ultrawide front camera too like a lot of phones have. And access to the infrared one too, like on all the Xiaomi devices with that one app that doesn't work on Samsung devices because it's locked out from the user. But still... Manual mode for the Telephoto lens would be good enough for now.
