Every few months samsung will update the bootloader along with the firmware. You can only downgrade to an older firmware so long as it has the same bootloader version as what you are currently running. Not possible to downgrade bootloader even with root unfortunately.

Is there a list of firmwares where you can see the bootloader version?

The bootloader version number is written in the firmware version. Go to sammobile and browse the firmwares for your phone model to compare.
Example:
The latest October firmware for my s10+ is G975FXXS9DTI8. The '9' before the DTI8 represents the bootloader.
Im currently on the September firmware which is G975FXXU8DTH7. The '8' before the DTH7 represents the bootloader.
So when I decide to update, there will be no going back.
Hope this helps

Your bootloader is locked, I'm guessing you're on UBUBML3 firmware. The only way you can update (or install any other firmware for that matter) is to get official firmware for your pone that has been signed by Samsung. The AT&T 4.4.2 update will not work on your phone unfortunately, so you're going to have to get the update directly from Telcel.

I don't know who exactly said this, but I remember that it was impossible for me and many others to downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.0. Why should it be different this time?

It's not impossible. It depends on the firmware. If the firmware has had a revision update then there are occasions where the bootloader will not allow the downgrade.
However usually Samsung will inform the user of this before the OTA is applied.
A firmware revision will usually have U2 in the build number.

Did you mean, a firmware with an U2 in the build number can't be downgraded? All the firmwares I used in the past and for now have U2 in the build number...
My English is really not as good, so I didn't understand everything you wrote.
I'm sorry if I told something wrong.
Indeed, when it contains U1 in its firmware-name, you better not flash those if you're already on U2.
In the list that you can find here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-T810/
the oldest 9 firmwares (bottom of the list) are all U1 firmwares, you better not use those.
All the other (more recent) firmwares are U2 versions, so you can flash all those if you want (doesn't matter if it's 5.0.2, 5.1.1 or 6.0.1.) if you have the SM-T810 model of the tab S2 of course.

How do you know if it is a U2 or U3 FW?
On his images it says Device:3 Binary:2. Meaning his phone is on U3 bootloader. the last 6 of a Firmware version is U#XXXX. the # is the bootloader version. The X's will change per version.

You dont. Its impossible to downgrade bootloader due to fuses. Its possible to downgrade firmware WITHIN the same bootloader revision(you can flash any u3 firmware to u3 bootloader revision for your device but you cannot flash ANY u2 bootloader revision firmware)

Hello, I cannot downgrade to Nougat, I keep getting "Sw Rev Check Fail Device 2 Binary 1" on the phone side and ODIN simply says failed. When I try to downgrade from Oreo to Nougat. I have not been able to enable "OEM Unlock".
BTW, Sorry for incomplete title as the title bar disappears and I can only type a little bit.

What model do you have? And what firmware version were you on before trying to downgrade? Some firmwares include bootloader updates which cannot be rolled back.
I have a N950F and this is the Oreo image I succesfully flashed "BL_N950FXXU3CRC1_CL13094739_QB17155977_REV00_user_low_ship.tar"
I can flash "COMBINATION_FA71_N950FXXU3ARA5" without a problem which is 7.1.1 But I think it's the bootloader that is giving me issues and since the combination file doesn't include a bootloader (AFAIK) it goes through, but when I try to put in any bootloader from Nougat, the flash fails.
I tried flashing:
-BL_N950FXXU1AQI1_CL12007350_QB14830234_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
-BL_N950FXXU1AQHB_CL12007350_QB14652984_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
and both failed. It's important to note that I'm trying to flash the whole thing, not just the "BL" file. I just pasted the BL file name because I think it holds the information you need.
Ok thanks for providing the info. One more question, what Odin version are you using?

3.13.1
I have a similar problem. Bought my N950F in Panama but I'd like to change to Brazil's ZTO(unbranded) to be able to use Samsung Pay there.
I got Odin 3.13.1 and the ROM N950FXXU3CRDF_N950FOXM3CRE4_ZTO (latest 8.0.0) from SamMobile. When I try to flash I get the "Check Fail BOOTLOADER" message. Trying to uncheck the BL, I get another error but also not able to flash. Maybe my phone has a newer version that doesn't allow it to in theory "downgrade"?
Any solution?

@sefrcoko, I'm currently on Android 8.0.0, Baseband N950FXXU4CRG8, Build number R16NW.N950FXXU4CRGA.
I don't know if this is older or newer than the one I'm trying to flash. Is there a way to do it?
Thanks!

Hi, yes you are on the "U4" bootloader and trying to downgrade to the "U3" bootloader (look at those characters in the build numbers, that's the bootloader version). Can't downgrade from u4 to u3 though.

Question Should You Flash the Latest Software Or Flash All Previous Software Updates Incrementally

Hello guys.
So I recently got a phone that's stuck with the August 2021 security patch. I wanna flash the latest software so had 2 questions:
1. Should I flash the most recent software update or considering I've never actually updated my phone, should I flash all the previous updates from August first before I flash the latest one.
2. I wanted to know if anyone has experience flashing SM-G998U1 firmware on a SM-G998U phone. I heard you can flash "U1" or carrier unlocked firmware on a "U" or carrier locked phone. Just that you'd lose all your data. I have an SM-G998U locked to Verizon and since I'm not in the US Verizon says they can't unlock it for me. So my only option is to flash new firmware updates. But I can't for the life of me find any Verizon SM-G998U firmware from after August 2021 (that's my latest security patch) online. So wanted to hear from anyone with experience that's flashed "U1" firmware on a "U" phone.

I'm not trying to unlock my phone. It's usable cause it doesn't reject simcards. Just denies me OTA updates. All I want is new software.
Is there another option apart from flashing new firmware if I want to update it? I'd love to unlock the phone but all the websites keep talking about generating codes. My phone doesn't request a code. And I can still use it. If there isn't another option for unlocking, can you assist with the questions I've asked?
Fine to flash new firmware to get the latest.
1. If you flash complete FW using Odin, you can flash the latest, no need to flash intermediate updates.
2. Did you search the forum yourself? See following thread for FW versions of the US-devices: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s-and-flashing-discussion-here.4220111/unread

Thanks so much for all the help Yeah I've seen that thread before. But only firmware available until November 2021. Nothing after. So think I'll try the U1 to U option for now.
