Chargers? surprised this thread doesn't exist - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

So I just ordered the phone but I also realized that I will probably need a new charger and a longer USB-C as well. So would you, dear XDA members, in your ever-infinite wisdom enlighten me as to which chargers/cables are best for this phone?

Why would you need a new charger when there is one bundled with the phone? Any long USBC to USBC cable is fine with the bundled charger.

Because having multiple chargers is convenient and better than moving around with a single one. Also no, they are not the same an Anker powerline series isn't the same as some ****ty $3 Chinese knock off.

How is "moving around with multiple chargers" more convenient than moving around with a single charger?
Might as well carry multiple phones & battery-packs in you rucksack while you are at it!
The "Anker powerline series" are more than likely made in China too.
I wouldn't call the ROG 3 original charger a 'cheap knock-off' or be derogatory towards China.

I enjoy having a charger at my desk, by my bed, and one in the kitchen. While I can walk the charger around, it would be very convenient to simply plug in wherever I am in the house. It also ensures I can leave one in the bag without having to worry about forgetting yet another thing.

I would say to buy another official charger and cable as it is a true problem to find a good charger and a good cable that will allow you to charge your phone the same way as the original one that is of a really good quality.

USB to Power Outlet adapter?

Where can I buy more of the little adapter that you plug the USB cable in to, then plug the adapter into to your wall power outlet?
I'm planning on coupling it with this cable: monoprice!com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2
My Incredible charges MUCH faster when plugged in to a power outlet than it does when plugged in to USB.
I just bought two off of Ebay that I will be trying out. I will let you know if they work which ones they are. I do know that the one from Monoprice.com doesn't work well so I would avoid that one.
Ok I got a few of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=2#ht_500wt_1182
"PLO" brand "Powerbug" - meant for GPS devices but they work perfect with the incredible. 5v, 1A, 5watt (same as stock HTC charger). I got two at $8 each so not bad. They are nice looking compared to the generic Monoprice usb charger.
EDIT ** Don't think these have as much power as the stock charger. Spare parts states "Charging (USB)" when using these, so it's like being plugged up to a computer. Still a good deal at $8
The usb to wall plugs from monoprice are no good. I ordered several before I knew better. None of them worked properly...or for Any longer than 20 minutes.

Have you actually got it and tried it and it works? I did a search on Best Buy's website and they have them but they're $27! If yours works, I'll snag a few off of ebay before people realize how useful they are and jack the price up.

I use a Boxwave Versa Charger. Plugs into mains or into car DC power outlet.

It sure does, however, if you take a look at the picture, its simply a USB slot that the mini-usb cable plugs into, which means that any USB cable could work as the OP asked about. I'd say this would work well. However, I grabbed http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerduouniversal and it works great and I can just move my cable from my car to my house and have power everywhere.
don't buy aftermarket USB A/C adapters unless it's just for an overnight charge. You can't use the screen when using an aftermarket adapter. It's quite annoying. every single touch screen phone I have had has this problem.

Yes, but I have a variety of micro usb cables already. Take mini usb cable, throw in trash, use your own micro usb cables.

Yes I bought two and both of them work fine. Not sure if they charge as fast or not as the STOCK charger, but they are rated the exact same. The only thing I don't like about them is they have a blue light around the USB port. I found those at $8 each which is a lot better than paying $30 each somewhere else. I found these in another thread and the person was finding them even cheaper at some discount store I had never heard of. I'll leave one at work, one out in the garage or somewhere. The HTC charger will stay in the bedroom.

That's not true. While the monoprice wall charger DID have a screen issue, the screen works perfectly fine with these chargers. And I used all kinds of chargers with my previous HTC Touch and never had a screen issue.

I have several aftermarket USB AC heads that work just fine with the Incredible. All of them purchased some time ago.
I've been using my old iphone power blocks without any problems, though its only been a couple days if charging.
Depending on the price, you may be able to snag some fairly cheap with all of the companies that make cheap iphone/ipod accessories. Unfortunately I have enough power blocks so I don't have a need to buy/test any others.
I would be curious about other peoples experiences though.

I have some Ipod AC adapters as well. I was thinking they'd be safe to use since lower amp for the Incredible... but what of the reverse? Can you use the Incredible AC wall block safely on other devices? It's 1A instead of the .5A for Iphone/Ipod.
I'm trying to travel with less charges!

HTC HD2 Wireless (Induction) Charging Available! What You Need To Know

Okay, like a lot of people I have been watching the induction chargers with a keen eye, waiting for a reputable company to deliver a worthwhile solution.
Then I saw that the Duracell MyGrid was on sale on Amazon(.co.uk) for £19.99, with connectors costing £15.99. Brilliant! Right?
There is not a HTC Leo specific connector, but you can purchase a Micro-USB connector which will allow you to charge your HD2 via the MyGrid powermat. At this point, I was reaching for my wallet!
Before purchasing, however, I chose to see if anyone had reviewed the product. Im thankful I did...
It turns out the connector you attach to your device is permanently attached (glued I expect). This means that if you need to replace your phone, you need to buy a new connector. It also means your phone probably won't fit into car handsfree kits anymore.
Now for the killer. It is possible to disconnect the connector from the Micro-USB port, but this is by no means easy and leaves the connector pins vulnerable. This means your Micro-USB port is always in use. Want to plug your phone in on a train? Use a car kit? Use a conventional charger? SYNC/UPDATE FIRMWARE by plugging into a PC? Tough poopie!
In summary: Does an induction charger for the HTC HD2 exist? Yes. But iff you want to do anything with your phoen other than charge it, don't buy one.

anybody got one of these powermats, how long would it take to charge the standard hd2 battery from flat?
i bought one as my usb connector was fried and out of warranty. havent used it for a full charge yet but it seems pretty quick

So, you would say this charger makes no sense? Sorry, but there's no induction charging which works like a WiFi and you can move where you want while charging.

Official car charger

Having looked at a number of UK websites, only one said a USB cable came with the charger. I had been planning on buying an OEM 2 amp charger. Then I saw Clove were saying it came with a spare USB cable so the price of £24.99 didn't seem so bad any more. Got it on Friday and, yes, it did have a USB cable in the pack.
Tried it in my car runing Co-Pilot sat nav and my battery indicator showed that the charge was still going up so I am very pleasedwith it.
Only slightly disappointing thing is that the charger has only one output whereas some of the OEM ones have two, one 2 amp and one 1 amp. However, I tried it with my charger splitter and it still showed the charge was going up.
most cheap usb car charges have a screwable top; just take out the glass fuse and replace it with a 2amp/2000mA fuse which you can get at autozone, radio shack, home depot....pretty much anywhere
Really? if i just change the glass fuse i can use any usb car charge?
Is not dangerous for the electric impiant of the car?
No You can't. It is not the fuse that decides how much current the charger can give.
The fuse just protects the charger from blowing if something fails.
The regulator used in the charger sets the charging current.
true you can buy a regulator at radio shack. i've seen the 7805 for about a buck 50.
Ok, tnx guy!

There are generic 2A USB cigarette lighter / car chargers on eBay for a third of the price. Worth trying too
Would you mind posting a pic of the charger?
I just bought Samsungs Car Adapter kit (ECA-P10CBECSTD) from local store, 27.90€.
It comes with cigarette lighter 12/24V usb adapter, 2 Amps 5V output, and a proprietary Samsung Tab usb cable.
A little pricey, ok, but now I have a second usb cable and a car adapter with enough output amps without fuss.

Here's the one from Clove.
Amazon UK are selling the Samsung car charger for £20.83. Pretty good deal with free delivery.
[edit]
Or there's this one also on Amazon for 99p (+£4.50 delivery!) which apparently can charge the Tab. You still need to add in the cost of the proprietary Samsung USB cable though to match the official car charger features, so not much of a bargain really...

That's all fine and dandy Paul but will an individual be bothered contacting officials just for the sake of a few pounds.
No, what I'm saying is why is it not listed..... and if anyone is considering purchasing one I would recommend they save themselves any issues by first contacting the seller to ascertain if the cable is indeed part of the deal.
If you check the item model number it's listed as a charger, nothing further.

OK well I've just ordered one so we'll soon see . The picture on Amazon looks almost identical to the one on Clove. Here's hoping they're the same otherwise I've bought the world's most expensive charger .
Guys, just so you know, you can get very cheap 2A chargers on ebay. The cable problem is still impossible to solve, but I'm sure Hong Kong people are working on it, so it might be best to wait a month and order a cheap replacement cable, rather then paying ridiculous amount of money for Samsung's original cable.
I ordered one of these a couple weeks ago:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...b43hTuXib7JjWUKJhg%3D&viewitem=#ht_1776wt_959
Came in today, and I swear the sync cable it came with is identical to the one my Tab came with, right down to the Samsung logo.
Car charger itself is a 5.0v/2000mA, looks well built, fused, and comes in a very nice retail package.
Considering the cable alone is $29 from my carrier, it's a hell of a deal. I basically bought a cable for $23 and got a car charger for free.
Hey croak that cellet charger doesnt work. it has the charging symbol crossed out... I guess you need to do usb2usb soldering mod to use any 5v2A charger. I saw the thread on here...

Second Charger

Has anyone found a wall charger that they're happy with? I have an Amazon basics 2.1 Amp one that charges OK and shows up as an A/C charger in the battery stats, but it's not as fast as the stock one (which already is slow).
I'd post a link to what I have, but the forum still sees me as a newbie even though I've been lurking around for a few years now.

If you don't really care about super fast charging time almost all usb wall chargers are the same because of the limitations of a usb cable. Just color, shape, and size might vary
I'm using the my hp Touchpad charger. It seems like it charges faster than the original charger. I'll have to test and see though.

I bought a pogo charger so it won't take up the micro usb slot and also safer charging with pets (or kids). If I'm lucky it will charge faster too.
the pogo charger uses the original samsung ac adapter though.. it doesn't come with one
I just use any random charger I have (I think I use an old Kindle one right now) and leave it charge while I sleep. I have no complaints and have a POGO on order.
I ordered the Powergen chargers for both the wall and my car. They supply 3.1 amps so whatever the max is that the N10 will take, it will get it.
Search for "powergen 3.1" on Amazon and you'll find both.

Nice tip - thanks. That and the POGO has to be about as fast as it gets PLUS with the second USB port I will be able to charge my phone and tablet at the same time, same charger.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up ordering the Powergen 3.1 charger suggested above. I'll report back on what my experience is. I did note that one of the reviews of that item at Amazon says it charges the Nexus 10 well, so my hopes are high.
Next question - anyone know what happens if you plug in the POGO charger and a USB charger at the same time?
Your charger isnt going to make a great deal of difference in charge time. An updated and/or custom kernel will help a LOT more with that.
The AC wall unit isn't a charger, it's the power supply for the charger inside the N10.
Me and another N10 owner measured how much current the N10 draws from the PS and it was less than 1A, so the device isn't even asking anywhere near the max that the PS can supply. Unless there is someother reason and there very well could be, a larger PS "might" be a waste of time/money.
I think the N10 charger uses a special usb protocol which allows it to charger faster than most

I'm intrigued; how is that? More importantly, does such a kernel currently exist? I started this thread in search of a second charger that just worked as well as the original one. I'd be happier if could find something that did better than the OEM.

What I can tell you is that both powergen units charge the N10 fine.
What I can't tell you is whether they charge the N10 any faster than the stock wall unit. I haven't done any testing.
I'm expecting my pogo cable any day, maybe I'll do some testing then.
There are so many differing theories here, who knows?

Yes so many, maybe if someone would write to Mr google and ask him he would explains it to us hehehe
I have seen some dual USB port PS that are rated "total" for both "not" each port. How is this PowerGen 3.1?
Just check and it's listed as "shared", so that's 3.1A total.
The description clearly states that each port can supply up to 3.1A. If both are used at once, the 3.1A is shared.

4.2A Car Charger on ebay...need help...

Hello, Long time follower, first time poster.
I cannot post the link, but if you search "Juiced Systems 4.2 AMP" in ebay it's the first item under "Best match" and it's $19.99
Has anyone tried these chargers that claim 2.1A per USB port? Or does anyone know of any similar car chargers that charge 2 devices @ 2.1A?
I just want to buy the best charger that isn't going to blow up my phone, and a dual charger would be excellent if possible.
Thanks in advance.

The one Android customer from that Amazon link said:
I bought this assuming it would charge my Droid DNA at an AC rate. Unfortunately, it charged at a USB rate and could not keep up with usage while driving.
It sounds like with that particular device, in order to get an Android phone to charge at an AC rate is to either modify the charger (through soldering) to short out the data pins or use a USB charge-only cable (DIY modification of an existing cable or purchased one). The Android phone should then see the charger as AC instead of USB for, hopefully, full and faster rate of charge.
I know you are looking for dual port, each with 2.1A - but I wouldn't hold my breath this one will output dual 2.1A without throttling down one of the ports. Its impossible to fit quality circuit in a small cigarette lighter package where due to excess heat the efficiency of your converter will decrease. And even if they manage to produce 4.2A you will either blow your fuse or melt your charger. Just think about it, you won't have any air circulation to even cool it down.
I only trust dual port chargers with 2.1A/1A rating. I reviewed one before - HERE from iSmooth which does work! Also, to my surprise, iSmooth charger was actually made for iPad/iPhone but it WORKS perfectly with Note 2. I can't voucher for other Apple converters, and as a matter of fact I have another one with a separate Apple and Android ports and Note 2 doesn't charge from Apple port. But the one from iSmooth I'm using right now works perfectly for Note 2 and also looks awesome in the car with a blue glow light
