Something I LOVED about previous Pixels was the screen and the haptics felt so smooth and soft. The Pixel 5 haptics feel like it's vibrating a plastic screen. Has anyone else noticed this? I know gorilla glass 6 was used instead of 5, so idk why this would be. I've played around with haptic settings and lowering it doesn't really seem to help. The haptics (on the keyboard especially) just don't feel good. Am I alone here?
The cavity behind the screen for the hidden earpiece lets screen taps and haptics feel hollow.

Wow, thanks for the insight. Any way to counteract this? A good case or something maybe?

LOL, move everything to the bottom so you'll tap less on the top. Seriously, I doubt you can since the speaker sits behind the screen. I suspect you'll eventually get mostly used to it, if not maybe try therapy. ?
Same here. The screen feels plastic. That with the hollowness of the phone add to the softer haptics to make it feel very mushy. Especially when typing. But as said, I'd probably not pay attention to it after a while.

is there or can anyone create a small applet that can use the kaiser's touchscreen as a scale to measure weight, such as 0.3grams
...what's that white stuff on your phone?...kidding. kewl idea
Cool idea! So, is there anyone that can elaborate on the technical details of how our touchscreens function so we can figure out if the idea is feasible?
Here are some links, im really liking this idea. I even believe it could work. I doubt it would work for measurments over 45g

The reason I can see this working is the screen depends on the screen being pressure sensitive.
well, we are able to change the sensitivity of our touch screens, can't we incorporate that into a simple application

Haha, you guys are funny... i hope it takes gram and dime
can anyone do anything with this lol?
I want a pocket scale! That would be sooo handy! ; )
HAHAHAHAHA Oh, the possibilities!
lmao its hilarious because me and a few of my friends have been talking about that for ages, and assumed it not possible. If it is, id pay. I got like $15 goin to whoever makes that program >D
It isn't. Touchscreens of the kind you find on the kaiser are made of 2 layers separated by little "rubber spacers" (the dots you can see when looking at the screen when it's off in strong light). The pressure needs to be great enough to bend the upper layer and have it touch the other one. But as it's the pressure that matters, if you put a weight that is the size of the screen, even if it's 100-200gr the screen won't even feel a press.

I was thinking the same thing. However, it still seems like it could be done with a standardized container, such as a bottle cap. That way you have the same area always touching the screen, and just the force changes (pressure = force / area, and force is weight). Stick a standardized 1 gram weight in the cap, put it on the screen, run the calibration part of the program, then always use that cap to hold whatever you're weighing.
I still don't know if the screen technology would let this work, but I think there's a chance. Perhaps the program could sweep the screen sensitivity from low to high, looking for when a "screen tap" is sensed, if simply looking at the touchscreen output isn't enough to determing weight...
I got 10 on it.

I thought of that too, but seeing the pitch of the dots I guess the contact surface would have to be relatively small (like max 3x3mm), which would lead to the holder tipping over all the time... Not to mention the response on the screen is most likely less than linear, so one would have to always use the same "spot" on the screen to put the container on... At this point my little 500gr/0.1gr resolution pocket scale seems more convenient
oh well, thnx
I don't know if its just me, but I think I'll look kinda weird at the spuermarket putting bananas on my phone
Dude you have to be the ONLY person who thought, "scale? Bananas!"
I made this comment in the impressions thread but am trying to bring more light to it...
Put your phone face down, rub your thumb on the upper half of the phone, does it creak at the top? Its almost like the rear glass wasn't put on properly on my device - it creaks like plastic. I'm really surprised by this since most reviews say the thing is completely creak free. And yes its somewhat annoying because I can hear the creaking more and more when I am just handling the phone....
Thanks
Edit - made a video.... now that its happening more often it seems to be due to the plastic/rubber trim (which goes around the phone) not fitting properly, its flexing between the front and rear glass. BLah, I wish I had a bumper to see if that would minimize the issue. Its very noticable now. I added a 2nd video on youtube.

Hope people will be able to answer this if the phone creaks at all I don't think I'll get it

No creaking at all from my device. The power button is a little wiggly tho...not as solid as the volume rocker which is kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker or anything.

Stand on your head and rub the left corner counter clockwise.... Do you hear that noise? Come on guys.... really?
But to answer your question no mine does not creak perhaps you should return if you rub the back of it a lot.
Nope, no sort of creaking with mine in any form, and the buttons are all very firmly in place. The whole device feels extremely sturdy and well built.

You're an idiot - I started the thread to get real comments...
As my original post says, it occurs in regular situations when handling the phone. There is a creak on upper half of the rear or top of the device. It's annoying to spend any substantial amount on a device and have it creaking when new. I'll try to make a video later.
The buttons are fine on mine though - no issues there.

I mistakenly thanked your post but that I feel the opposite.
We are on XDA and on the Nexus 4 forum, it isn't like the OP is making a huge deal out of it. He is just wondering if any other people have been experiencing the same issue.
People post on these device-specific forums to discuss about the particular device, people are well aware that there are things in life outside of smartphones without you having to point it out.
it is completely solid, power button doesnt wiggle, there is a bit of a rattle when tapping the top but thats the camera lens I assume (only rattles when tapping near the camera)
Yeah I don't think it should be creaking at all, especially since the back is glass and non-removable. As you said, it probably wasn't put on right. I would wait a couple of weeks until this whole order fiasco is fixed before calling about doing a warranty exchange.

mine doesn't creak at all. Of course I don't sensually rub mine on the top of the glass where there is no touch feedback, but to each his own.

It creaks under real world situations if I grip the phone on both sides to turn on power it will flex and creak. If I grip with my index finger on top of the phone and fingers on both sides on the top, it creaks.

No creak, wobbliness, dead pixels, shaky mic, but I do have that line in the top right in the plastic. I kinda like it, it gives the phone character.
I never seen anyone talk about it, the screen on the N6 its closer to the lower speaker (i found the moto x also), is off center vertically when holding on landscape. Do you think it would bother when viewing videos? Not trashing the phone, it looks gorgeous, just to see your thoughts.
Lower speaker area requires less presence for sensors/use. Making the screen lower intentionally. The top area where your front camera, proximity sensor, and ear piece requires more real-estate.
Personally I do not find it that much of a bother. As long as the build quality damn good and everything works as intended I will be happy with it.

Thanks for bringing this up. I thought I was the only person who was getting crazy on this particular design choice. I would have liked a little centered screen as well.
i been using it for a week and found no problem with it
I always like symmetrical look on things, but i think this is less obvious that the logo and grey bar on my lg g3 or the flat tire look of the moto 360, after some days you forget is there.

It would if the screen is off-centered "Verizontally"
The fact it has dual front speaker is good enough for me. I have a S4, which rear speaker is god awful

Not at all. it makes the virtual buttons become a part of the bezel. There are a few apps that do not support the full screen mode. Sometimes when playing games this happens. This makes it so if an app doesn't support it, the screen is still symmetrical.
Yes, off center screen looks awful !!
I hate unsymmetrical things
Nexus 5 is also unsymmetrical but in the inverse way .... the lower bezel is bigger than the upper one.
WHY DOES SOMEONE DESIGN SOMETHING LIKE THIS ??? :crying:
What bothers me is the orientation of the "M" and "Nexus" being different.
The p20 pro is delivered with a screen protector. On top of this is also an extra layer of plastic with a red tab at the top, meant to be removed before using the phone. I have to leave this second plastic layer on the phone to be allowed to return it.
Scrolling isn't good on the device. It's like the phone hold off scrolling until I've moved my finger some distance in a direction. This causes scrolling to be unsmooth and I'm not sure if it is due to the extra plastic layer interfering with touch sensitivity or if I have a faulty device or even worse: this is the way it is.
See video below for illustration. Notice how scrolling won't move right away with the finger. How are your phones with this? I hope that it's just the plastic but I'd rather not risking it to rip it off and find the issue remaining and no return.
Comparing on my current phone, a note 8, scrolling follows the finger right away.
Link to clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzek18SlFY0&feature=youtu.be (above embedding didn't work for some reason)
It's not the plastic protector that's causing it. I have removed it and mine is exactly the same.

Sad to hear it. It makes the scrolling experience feel like something from the entry level. I really wanted to like this phone but it seems the camera is all that's going for it in my book.

Seems to be a Huawei thing. I've had the same on a Honor 9 but it was much worse as it made it impossible to use it like I use my phones normally. It doesn't bother me too much on this one even though I notice it. On the Honor 9 it was hardware fault or just a bad digitizer because I had another Honor 9 too which was just fine and instant in the scrolling. It might be the digitizer this time around too. If I enable "show touches" under developer options it just doesn't trace the finger when doing smaller movements.

Same thigh here. It behaves the same way when showing touches so something tells me this may not be software but it's hard to tell. Seems some do not have the problem but I kind of get the feeling that non power users may not even notice it. I'm just the kind of person taking note of things like that this and it ruins the entire experience.
Add the horrible oversized ui to this and a few of the other kinks and suddenly all this phone seem to offer is a great camera and a lovely placed fingerprint sensor.
This seems to be the same issue as we are having in this thread.
Here is a video of the issue that I made. Note this is without the plastic interface OP was mentioning.

hi guys, was wondering with this phone can you hide the hideous punch hole?
i don't mean just tinting black the status bar, but tinting it black + also shifting down the status bar, as you can do for example with some OP phones? tia!
I guess we do not have such feature (like OP9Pro near me has).
At first I thought the punch hole would annoy me but now I haven't really noticed it before you now mentioned it. The chrome ring around it does make it stand out more and I don't really understand it's existence but if you flip it in landscape mode with vol+pow upwards you don't notice it.
could it be hidden better? Yes.
Is it annoying? No.
unfortunately for me it is annoying. I knew already before trying a phone with it, and I got confirmation when I tried it lol. really can't stand it, and I don't know how people can. for example if you see something in full screen (movie, game etc) how can't you notice the hideous hole interrupting what you are watching.. I mean, we are speaking of a hole in the screen after all.. worst thing ever for me.. even worse than notch..
thanks guys for the replies! so I have to skip this one too
