Hey there, so recently I got a Note8 since my mom switched to a Galaxy Note20 Ultra and she gave me her old phone since I had a J3 before. She had it for 2 years and now when it was given to me I found some extreme battery draining issues, I watched MrWhoseTheBoss' video and in 1 hour the Note8 drained to 91% however in 1 hour MY Note8 drains to about 60%-40%. Also when I'm not using it the battery drops like I'm playing Asphalt 8. Any solution to this? I checked battery usage and nothing is out of the ordinary. The highest usage is Instagram at 2-hour drops 20% but I only use it at night and this battery problem is during the day. For most of the school, I keep it in my pocket and only use to listen to music. The battery still drops extremely fast. My friend has an S8 and his battery is much better than mine.
All I need to know is if this is a software issue, or a hardware issue as the battery sometimes runs out and I boot it up to 15% or something close to that.
If it's a software issue please help me down in the comments, I have turned off location, limited CPU speed to 70%, and disabled background usage.
Thanks.

This is normal in my opinion. Even if the battery was only a year old, I'd say that is normal without proper power management.
My note8 is the same and the owners they had it before me, i don't know how much they played games with it, but how much i know about tech my note8 have never changed that battery and never was open back cower and the battery is still good up to two days average use, but i don't use apps like twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any social apps, only Viber that's all, the twitter, Facebook, or other thing i check on web-browser and that why battery should bee good.
The apps i mention up, i consider them partly spyware, battery-mongers, personal data movement mongers.
Btw, make a screenshot of your phone screen,\battery usage after the battery has drain to about 20% so we can see if we can have any conclusion to it, and pres this code (*#21*#) and call in keypad, make screenshot to see if someone is lurking on that phone on background.

I can't believe how incredible the battery life is on my Sprint Note 4. To give you a real world example of what I'm talking about...I'm a ups guy and stream Sirius over my phone to my wireless boombox all day while I'm delivering. My previous android phone on a full charge would get me to about 1PM before needing to charge the phone from this streaming.
With my Note 4 today I started streaming sirius at about 8:30am this morning and streamed it non stop all day for 10 hours. While streaming I also browsed the internet on lunch for about 40 minutes of screen on time for that. I then made about 40 minutes of phone calls after work on the way home. After all of that...I still have 60% battery life left without any charging today.
Man I love this phone!

tried ultra battery saver mode for the first few days and made it from 100% to 25% in 2 days and 4 hours with ultra on and off. then played a game for about 7 hours and it drained my battery 50%. Damn impressive
Not sure what to make of mine, I lost 10% in an hour, most of that was when I was driving!
Hmmm, but then I do seem to have a lag issue like others seem to be having too?

It's either something you have installed or how you have your preferences set. I turn off wifi & gps except when I'm using them (both for battery and privacy purposes).

I simply can't agree more dude the batt life on this beast is simply incredible I'm averaging around 13-15hours off charge with 6-7hours On Screen, take note (pun intended ) that when I put it on charge when I go to bed I still have well over 25% battery remaining, its simply incredible, even for us heavy users.
Must have a lemon
I have had my phone for about 3 days and I charge it to 100% before going to bed. When I wake up the battery life has dropped all the way into the 60s. before this phone I had a note 2 and this is way worse than it was. Screen was obviously off all night. Any suggestions appreciated!

It all depends on what you have running in the background. Push notifications? I've frozen all bloatware and turned off push. Is your wifi on maybe? gps? I leave mine unplugged all night (12 hours) and it goes down 3%

Did you install anything special like Greenify? Did you use any of the extra battery saving modes? What is your screen brightness set to?
I think the Sprint version is the Snapdragon, not Exynos, right?
I absolutely loved my Note 2 battery life, but this Note 4 battery life surpasses my Note 2 by a fair margin. I am one happy camper.
Edit: Sprint SD version.
I'm getting less battery life than I expected with my Exynos note 4. I just got out of bed and unplugged it , and used it for about 15 mins to browse tapatalk and email and etc. And in that 15 mins I lost 5% .
I also noticed a high Android System in my usage. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
This is screen cap.
Mine today
Im only plugging in now at 24% because im going to bed.... actually i have a second battery i might let it run overnight
Pretty good
Sent from my SM-N910V
If you have battery issues, make sure you are not syncing to drop box or google photo back up all times. For example, I use photos to back up all my photos but in the settings I have it only back up when plugged in to the charger. Hopefully this might help someone.

Nothing special installed for battery life and not using the power saving modes. I keep the screen set to auto brightness when at work, but put it on max brightness at home on the weekends when I know I have chargers available because I love the nice bright display. Yes, I have Sprint which has the Snapdragon 805.
I turn off GPS & Wifi when I'm working for battery saving & privacy purposes, but leave bluetooth on all day. I don't have my microsoft email auto synced, but have gmail pushed.
Here are the results from today (attached). Still well over half a battery left after midnight.
To all the people with battery woes-
Pause your pedometer in s health and remove pedometer from lock screen(of course if you don't use it much). It saves a hell lot of battery. It did at least on my SD805 note 4.. I am a heavy user with 3g on all day but never run out of juice. Screen on time averages 7-8 hours daily with browsing/playing games/chatting. I have wifi, synch and gps off when i am not using them.
And yeah i charge every morning, but have never seen my battery less than 39% when i charge lol. This beast is incredible. *super satisfied*
Just curious on people's battery life experiences so far. This seems to be the main negative I hear about this device from reviews. I am most likely going to get the device nonetheless.
I don't feel like the battery life is that bad on this device.
I can get through a hole day very easily. I play some games (but not that much), I listen to a lot of music and I use Chrome very often.
Still I have about 40% at the end of the day.
For a device with a 1440*2560 5.7 inch screen and a Snapdragon 810 I reckon that it is pretty good.
I can only tell you to get this device it is awesome
Battery life for me is pretty terrible. The battery drain is significant even when the phone is in idle. I usually have access to a charger throughout the course of a day and I feel the need to keep it connected as often as possible. I still love the phone, but the battery life is the worst I have experienced with any phone I have had in the last couple of years, and I have used many. I leave it on balanced mode for the majority of the day and only switch to performance mode when I am going to play a graphic intensive game.

No, I haven't tried any apps or other battery profiles. Like I said, I keep it plugged in a lot during the day, so I have never felt the need to see how far I could stretch a single charge. This is also the way I have kept all of my previous phones and the Xiaomi drains the battery the fastest in comparison.
Mine lasts me about 12hours. I listen to music most of the day and I'm a heavy user.
Got the phone 2 days ago. got around 4 hours 15 minutes SOT from 7am till 9pm on the international rom. Better than i was expecting. Hopefully I can improve it further.
I have to admit that over time the battery got worse. That would be because I have more apps etc..
What is your SOT time usually?
I noticed today my battery SOT and idle drain has been really bad. The only thing I think I did diffrently was that I logged onto my miui account last night so i could download themes. I have no use for the miui account other htan the themes so I will try logging out and seeing how things are after it....
2-9% per hour is not bad i guess...
If i use it a lot, then only it will go as far as 11% per hour and mostly because the big QHD screen,
When it sleep, it almost didnt drain...
Of course you have to kill/disable all those stupid google play services... Named it Event Log and Checkin handoff etc etc

Are you still using the Mi note pro?
Hi. I just got my P9 Plus last week. Seems to me people are having insane experiences with their batteries like almost 2 days of usage with quite a fair amount of SOT. However, I'm unable to even get past 1 day without charging my phone in the middle of the day some times. Even if i just use instagram, whatsapp and facebook or surf the net, it drops 10% in less than 45 minutes not sure if that's normal? I checked the consumption levels and something called Android system was the highest for some reason. I read online some reviews they tested the battery life by runnning a video for 90 minutes and they only dropped 13%. I lose 5% in less than 20 minutes. Again, Android system was the highest. I then tested it myself, I just played Summoner's war, watched youtube and dramas, then when my batter dropped from 100% to 40% I checked the consumption, though I expected the Screen and the Game to take up bulk of the usage, Android system claims top spot again for some reason. Is this normal or do I have a faulty phone/battery?
I feel sorry for what you are experiencing because such a battery loss is definitely not normal. I have P9Plus(dual SIM version L29) and I put it on charger every 2 days with SOT 7 to 8hours(over 8 hours is not uncommon). It's definitely the best mobile I've ever had - batterywise and otherwise too.
First thing I would do would be updating the firmware and clearing the cache and even reset to factory mode. Install just few basic apps u feel you can't live without and observe how is battery doing. In this way you can eliminate the fact that your batt drain is caused by some app conflict etc. You should disable wi-fi/bt scanning(it is useless anyway) and location services too. If you can, disable the autosync too. Later on you can enable it again and see if it changes anything.
If no improvement you can post the print-screen of your battery data here so we can take a look and maybe we can figure out something.
Last idea that comes to mind is that you were unlucky and have faulty battery - just look at Samsung's Note7 and what kind of headaches their own battery gave to them. Sometimes it just happens that battery may come faulty from manufacturing.
Hello,
I've just bought a dual sim P20 Pro a couple of days ago and I am unhappy with the battery.
With moderate use like some Chrome browsing, some sms, calls and a bit of facebook I am getting only about of 26 hours life from 95% to 18-20%. I am only using one sim with LTE network.
Two times I've had a sudden drop from 96 to 91 percent and usually when screen is online I can observe percents dropping one by one in a matter of minutes.
If SOT is like 5-10min it is always 1%, if more than more. Could you please give me advice or share your experiencies?
I've read some reviews than phone is like a monster with battery lasting 2 full days with heavy use. So i would be glad to hear your opinions.
Authorised service centre haven't found any problems when I delivered the phone to them.
Thanks in advance!

No phone will last 2 full days with heavy use, if heavy use includes calls etc, no matter what they say. Download battery app and check for wakelocks. Probably some app keeping phone awake. Edit.. Try this https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw3cuTBnY1K_02fdd-kpZpug
Go to Settings -> Battery -> Battery Usage and check what drains your battery. Usually it's bad cellular network reception (you will see more "Cell standby") or some app.
I charge my phone every ~36 hours, but I'm not really a heavy user.
Just a note - AOD (always-on-display) does drain your battery (yes, OLED display, black colours, bla-bla-bla, just test yourself), so if you want it enabled (because it's convenient, I use it too) keep your phone face down on your desk/bedside when you don't need it.
You are not alone as i have the same issue but mine drains overnight. I guess warranty will fix it?
Mines been mostly positive from the off, coming from a Oneplus 5 this phone had a lot to live up to.
Honestly it really depends on what you have installed and what your reception is like, remove your SIM and see how your battery lasts then, it's quite the difference.
Seeing as no one would do that and you won't be able to move your cell towers then it's apps.
I can't speak for Pie as i did not want to install it until there were some decent roms available and maybe a working TWRP.
This is the thread i made on the oneplus 5 showing where i was able to achieve 14 hours 30 mins whilst at home and a leaderboard showing other peoples longest SOT times with proof.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/screen-time-leaderboard-post-longest-sot-t3780178
Similar situation on my p20 pro but the SOT was 17 hours + over a weekend, so Friday - Sunday on 1 charge.
Average around 8-10 hours, 1 and a half days give or take/.
So depending on your usage / location / signal / apps it is more than possible to get ridiculous battery life and longevity.
Personally i'd say do the following:
Don't charge overnight (contrary to common belief, this does have an impact over time)
Leave sync on (maintaining synchronization uses less battery than a big sync)
Check your apps, Facebook / Snapchat / Viber, they're all hogs, use the web version of FB and stick with whatsapp, it's more efficient.
Remove any apps you aren't using.
Avoid any apps with ads on if there's a paid for variant.
As @purple patch has said, use BBS to diagnose if any apps are keeping the device from sleeping.
That's pretty much all i do.
Hope this helps.
I am wondering how are you guys getting this top performance. For me it is like a typical situation: 26 hours after charging to 93%, 22% charge now, 4 hours SOT.
Cell signal is good, using Facebook and Messenger a lot.
But let's see I will try your reccomendations. Thanks.

Facebook and messenger are major hogs, use the web version of facebook and you'll see a benfit.
Facebook harvest so much info it's insane, tbh i uninstalled my FB and deleted my account, got to be honest the only thing i miss are the little funny videos that people post.
Beyond that i'm glad to be rid of it.
Hi I noticed that my watch battery drains so fast. I charged it at noon and finished the charging at around 1 PM and after 4 hrs of not even using it much, it's down to 65%.
I would like to return the watch if the battery drains like this so fast. Any advice?
This was my fear about buying the watch. My Galaxy Watch lasts about 6 days on a charge. Try factory resetting it, maybe. Something might be stuck running.

How long have you had it? There is a period where you are playing with it more (without realizing it) and it also takes the battery several charge cycles to balance out the battery and measurement.
To troubleshoot:
Go into the Galaxy Watch app on the phone and look and see what is draining your battery. If it's a watchface, change it to test. If you don't notice anything unusual, factory reset the watch and do NOT restore the backup. Run it for some time in a "vanilla" format (no apps / watchfaces / no modified settings). If it STILL drains .. you might have an issue.
I have the 45mm LTE SM-R845U. Have LTE on, WiFi on, Bluetooth on and connected to my Note 10+. Currently 1 day 14 hours 14 min on battery and setting at 34% battery available running in standard power mode.

Thanks Wattsja! I'll do it today.
I'm actually playing around with "I'm Alive" for a true AOD. I'm still analyzing, but my current burn is @4% an hour with a constantly visible second hand (the non-continuous quartz motion). That's a 45% OPR, for the nerds (vs. Samsung limitation of 15% in dim mode).
I have a much more involved work around that is potentially a little better, as I suspect an active display looking for touches and gestures is a significant battery drain in this scenario. If I can get the burn down to 3% per hour, I might just keep this watch
I agree pretty much what others are saying here. Batteries need time to settle, and there's a lot more interaction with your new toy and lots of stuff updating and installing, far more than you think. It's exactly the same with phones.
So give it a few days and you will see it improve to your expectations.
.
I experienced intensive battery drain. Bluetooth seemed to be in a faulty status. Watch battery duration was less than one day (SM-R800 46mm). Solution was as simple as unpairing the watch and re-pairing. No need to reset.
In a previous occasion battery drain was simply due to Wi-Fi on.
