[DRM] Widevine L1 - Huawei P40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I think we got Widevine L1 via OTA update (176). DRMInfo seems to confirm this. Can anyone else confirm this? Try Netflix, Prime or whatever.

I'm on
176, tried netflix but every time I try to log in it just goes back to mainpage.

Netflix ist working for me (EMUI 11) but still L3

L3 on 176 for me on netflix im afraid

Might be their "supported devices nonsense". I've tried YouTube purchased movie playback. Before 176 I had 480p max. Now it plays at 1080p. I think It's working.

L1 Here on. 176

I got YouTube Vanced with microG. No GMS. I know from the res options from the top-right menu. Prior to 176 I had 480p as the best option. Now it goes up to 1080p. I tested this exact movie because I've purchased it through youtube and it has DRM. Never had any issues with resolution on public videos. Just on protected content. Regarding Netflix: I think it's from their app. They have device list. If the device is not there the app streams SD, like on an L3 device. That's what I figured this evening after chatting with one of their support agents.

I think you'll catch up when the new beta or official 11 comes out. The changelog for 10.1.0.176 was just security update, but we got L1 cert with it.

L1, EMUI 11 beta

For me still L3

Can anyone think why some devices are showing L1 on Netflix and others L3?

install netflix from aurora store and it will work

Yep I've read that the other day, I think I misread the op, thought he said he was getting hd on Netflix but I think he meant hd on YouTube DRM stuff.

That's wrong. According to xda L1 is the best, and the N7P supports it: https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t-netflix-amazon-prime-video-hd/

No, this device should support higher resolutions without a problem, it is not limited by the DRM-level.

[SOLVED]is this device L1 certified?

[SOLVED]Can it play Netflix on HD?
I know it has an HDR display and all but none of the previous Xiaomi phones are L1 certified (DRM).
That's what I would like to know too. It's literally stopping me from buying the Mi8 right now. I use Netflix a lot, and I'd like to watch it in HD. My other phone, Honor 8 Pro is not Widevine L1 certified and Netflix looks like crap in 480p.
It would make sense if it had the L1 certificate, since it has a HDR10 display and Netflix is one of the few apps that provides HDR content.
If my memory serves me right, the OnePlus 5T did not have the L1 certificate and it caused a lot of anger in their customers. I think they implemented it in the OnePlus 6, I could be wrong though.

You're right. My Axon 7 is L3 also. I try searching on websites like Gsmarena but even they don't provide this information. I know there's an app to check DRM but I don't wanna buy the phone and then find out lol
Yes 5t was L3 and the commotion from the community forced the company to offer an update with L1 certificate but people needed to send their phone back through mail because that kind of an update needs a special certified computer.
OnePlus 6 is L1 certified out of the box but it's still not listed on Netflix as HD compatible.
I guess Netflix themselves need to support each phone for true HD content.

I don't know where you're going with this but if it is advertised as hdr10 I'm sure there must be some truth to it. Anyway, Netflix has officially listed over 10 devices as HDR compatible and only the Galaxy note 8 is 1000 nits. Maybe the rest of the devices aren't as good as the note 8 but it's better than nothing :good:

Mi Max 2 and Netflix HD

So from this page https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23939 the Mi Max 2 is not supported for NetFlix HD although it has a FHD screen.
I'm confused though, is this only for streaming? What if I download in "best quality" and then watch? Will it still not play in HD? Anyone had any experience with this?
Hey. No problems here. Streaming from Netflix HD to my Max 2 almost every evening.

Are you using any workarounds? How do you know it's playing in HD?
I don't use any modifications. Both my Android TV player and apparently the Mi Max 2 are not supported, both are working fine with no modifications (though the android TV player need to download the APK from Aptoide since it can't from the play store).
You can make sure you're streaming in HD if you work through the settings in here: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/11559

Miui 10 is still in early beta, what did you expect...
I'm actually a beta tester of miui10 (China version), I really don't know why you have problems while I don't...
Just in case I've added screenshots of my HD settings. Finally started watching Luke Cage.
Strange behavior
I currently running MUI10.3 9.2.14 and it the last version to support netflix up to date version.
If i update my MUI to a newer version netflix isn't support anymore and i need to download a older version with much less featuring.
I try to understand what going on.
you guys who claim to watch Netflix in HD should search in Netflix for "test patterns" and it will show whether you're watching in HD or you simple just think that based on some data usage settings...
That's because the Mi Max 2 phone has a DRM Widevine license class 3, This will restrict paid services like Netflix to play a video at maximum resolution of 540p. It won't matter if you have a full HD display or quadHD display if your DRM license is class 3. This was same issue with POCO F1 when it was launched. However, POCO F1 received an update and the Widevine license was updated to class 1. Although the Widevine license won't affect videos that you store on your phone(not Netflix), they can still play in full HD.
Most android phones carry a DRM widevine license 3. How to check this?
Go to your playstore and download app called DRM info and once installed it will show you the DRM license class of your phone.
Cheers!!!

No HD on Prime Video on rooted Mi 9T Pro

Hello, I've noticed that after I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, Prime Video is not streaming on 1080p HD anymore even though the device has Widevine L1 certification (Netflix is working fine). It looks really really bad. I've managed to keep google pay working, and installed the Netflix fix too (liboemocrypto.so patch or something like that)...is anyone facing the same issue or know a fix to the problem?

In upper right corner it says "null kbps, 1920:1080, PAR 1:1 , 8 bpc, 23.976 fps" I think Netflix is ok...it seems it is not triggering HDR but maybe because the test doesn't support it.

It looks like actual crap, there are no details, it shows compression arctifacts on complex scenes and fast moving objects...like it is running on 240p or 360p. Moreover if the video is running in FullHD the Prime video player will show 1080p HD under the progress bar just next to the minutes counter.
I am sure it is not a bandwidth problem since I've got gigabit fiber at home and fast 4G+ Data. Tested speed before reproducing were 522Mbps on WiFi and 130Mbps on 4G+, tested both on ookla and fast.com
EDIT: in the settings menu I've selected maximum streaming and quality, but it says that the Data consumption will be 0.46GB per hour...it seems really lo...what you guys get? Could anyone with a locked and stock device please share a screenshot of the quality settings?
I can't stream in HD even on a stock device. As far as I know, noone can.

Same on stock. Quality is not as bad as you describe but I can see a bit of compression like its's 720 maybe. Netflix on the test chart says 720p max for me (even on the 1080p test) but Netflix settings say that HDR 1080 is supported
