Front Notification LED customization - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

Hi!
I know that it is possible to customize the ROG logo on the back with AURA Synch, but I would like to know if you can also customize in the same way the front notification LED. As you can't get notifications from the Always-On-Display that comes with the ROG Phone 3 (or at least that is what I've read from reviews), it is very important to me that the front notification LED could get the same customization and, for instance, make the light blue for Twitter notifications or green for WhatsApp notifications, and so on.
Thank you in advance!
Take care and be safe!

Glance screen notifications

Hello, I am thinking of buying the Nokia 8. Given that there is no notification led; do all notifications appear on the glance screen at least? For example whatsApp/Viber/gmail notifications?

I've installed this for missed notifications on any app as there is no led.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.missednotificationsreminder
Nokia need to enable BLN imo
tryede several of those notification apps, none really works, not as good as the led light i got on s7

Bit of an oversight not to have it on Nokia's part. I mean how much would it have cost, a $?
Phone call notifications are hard coded as missed calls.
Email / messages - these are based on the notification category - GMail / Outlook show as emails, FB Messenger* and text messages show as messages - WhatsApp doesn't
* FB Messenger is hit and miss at times, I think group ones show, but if any media is sent, the notification category changes and no longer counts as a message
I thought I could get by with glance rather than a notification LED, but I can't. Glance doesn't display notifications for Texta or True Phone for me - I have to use the stock messaging and dialler apps.
Also, glance disappears after a minute unless you move your phone. If you set it to the maximum of 20 minutes, it stays on even when there aren't any notifications, thus wasting battery.
I tried NoLED, but it's not the same, and it too has the entire display on just to display a small coloured dot.
This, together with the slow fingerprint scanner means I'll likely sell my Nokia 8 and keep my Mi6. It's disappointing, as I love having stock Android and timely updates.

I have two thoughts on the subject but I don't even have the phone so this might not worth much it's informative I gathered researching the phone as I have an interest in it,
1. I read somewhere that the area which shows the glance screen actually uses lower power and therfore shouldn't use much battery despite it being lcd it sounds weird but try the twenty minutes option and see if you truly get much battery drain.
2. I read somewhere else that there might be a software update that will enable the capacitive buttons light to blink on notifications... If you can hold on until that is available....

Was that a comment from Nokia or just on someone's wish list on a forum?
This will be great, and it is possible. Maybe it'll worth to write on Nokia support page or Twitter

If I remember correctly, a wish... But if many will demand it then
I requested it on Nokia forum and Twitter asked for support here.

I'm sure they can make the buttons light up, my old Nokia N8 used the same method for notifications.

100% they can if they choose to. Should have from the start given they omitted a notification led.

I agree. The size of the text and the limited functionality makes it useless

Maybe Nokia has some plans for an S-View-like cover that has a window in that area... just sayin'.
Anyway, lighting up / blinking capacitive buttons for notifications would be truly awesome!
hey there i wanted to ask if your screen wakes upon notifications, or it stays off, but only notification sound comes through (just like my nokia 8 does)
is there a way to wake screen upon notifications (kinda like ambient display), without me having to double tap?
thanks
Unfortunately the screen doesn't wake up on notif. It was a big issue for me, as there is no led either, and the glance is just useless in its current state (really need an update to be as good as lumias)
I'm a heavy SMS and Whatsapp sender. I solved the issue with Textra for SMS (you can enable the screen wake-up in the app settings, and it works perfectly) and Whatsapp automatically wake-up the screen too.
Use glimpse notifications app, it's a great app.
Stock android, from 6.0 ver (I mean) , doesn't have that option anymore.

side light..

Have you tried this feature. Lights up the screen when you receive any notification.. You can set it to other colors..
#prettycool
I've been playing around with this myself, doesn't appear like there is any customization to this which I wish there was to extend the time it stays on screen. Also it doesn't seem to work if you use custom texting apps for example.
Yeah it would have been nice to customize the colors, duration (time and repeat), and which notifications. Really like it though. I've missed a flashing status light to get my attention.

Any color with this app
Even rainbow!

There's a few of those apps, and this one worked best for me! I stopped using it (uninstalled) though, too much battery drain!

Go to notification settings on the custom texting app, importance, urgent. That should activate the blue frame. Worked for me on the Signal text app.
useless in the dark?
It almost makes up for the lack of Notification LED.
My only issue with this feature is that it only works when the AOD is on... so it is useless at night or in the dark.
I haven't figured out how to keep the AOD on while in the dark, I feel the phone vibrate but you have to press the power button a couple of times to wake up the V40. Anyone else having a similar issue? is there a setting?

Come to find out my issue is with the screen protector. It doesn't have a notch at the top, just holes for the cameras and speaker, and a clear spot for the sensor between the cameras... but that's not enough. So when there is not enough light, the sensor thinks it's in the pocket and the screen goes dark... and no knock to un-lock.

Yes, KnockON is enabled under "Extensions". I've found that knock or fingerprint don't work if the sensor in the front is covered. Only the power button.

It's called "Glance View", and there are multiple options. Always on is possible. Turn on for notification is possible. Honestly I don't know if you can turn *off* the screen-on during notifications. I have the settings seen in the attached screenshot, and when I get a notification it just turns on the display, showing the time and fingerprint sensor, but none of the notifications themselves.
At night I see this red sensor/light in top left corner. May just be a motion sensor for the glance display

no system lighting settings

Not sure if I'm missing something but there's no system lighting settings on my updated WW ROM. Is this how it should be?
There's a toggle on and off on the quick drop menu but it appears to do nothing when I turn it on or off. A long press does nothing and in settings there's just a red line with system lighting at the bottom of the settings page. Nothing below it to customize. Is it only enabled with an NFC RGB case?
I was hoping to try and have the Rog logo light up on incoming calls...
Screenshot, is this how it should be, with no settings below the light management!?
Same. I've got nothing under "Light Management" which means I can't disable the charging light which is stupid bright at night.

Same problem. Must feedback to asus.

That controls the ROG logo, not the notification light.
The notification light is this:
There's no way to control that on my phone currently with the latest WW update.

You can control led notification with 3rd party apps, Google never released a stock rom with settings to customize led notifications for apps. Why would other manufacturers have it to begin with.

Neither CN or WW have it, as a matter of fact I haven't seen any other brand have a settings with the ability to customize led light color for apps unless the rom is a custom rom cooked by developers.
There was a single option of turning the LED notification light on/off there before. It's gone now with the latest WW update.
The RGB logo on the back can be customised on a per app basis. When kept face down the screen protector lips protect the screen so i use logo notification on the back. It's cool.

Like for notification, only the yellow blinking effect is there...similarly for some other categories. For some others, a deeper customisation is available
Just bought my rog phone 2 and realised aura light not working. I found settings in Armoury Crate app, console, going down and system lightning. Go advanced settings and enable what you whish. Now its working.

AOD / Screen off clock

I've got a CN version of this phone. I it updated the day after I received it so I think some of the notification issues mentioned before has been resolved... or at least I haven't experienced what some others have described yet.
at the moment I seem to be receiving the notifications as they arrive... but I still miss them because there is no easy way to know the notifications have arrived!!
The AOD / screen off clock is quite useless (at least in the CN ROM) it only shows the clock, missed call and SMS. Thats it. I'm trying notify buddy now, which kind of solves the problem. I say "kind of", because while it does allow me to have an LED notification, it deactivates the finger print sensor until you wake it. And also I seem to be getting large battery drain with it.
AOE doesn't work for me.
Is there anyway to get the screen off clock to show other notifications as well ?
Thanks for anyones help.

I got EU version and have exactly the same problem. ColorOS 6.1
I googled a lot trying to find a way to personalize AOD clock (like Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro) but I couldn't find anything.
I searched also for a method to make it show other notifications but there isn't nothing.
Maybebe someone else found something?
Unfortunately I think the situation won't change too much with Android 10.

I'm afraid he said nothing about app notifications on AOD. Although, there is a notification switch in Screen-Off Display settings, so maybe there is a chance
Its really annoying that they made a phone without useful AOD notifications AND without an LED for notifications.. having to turn on the screen to check for notifications is inconvenient and probably uses more battery.
really hope the next update sorts this out.
on a side note, notifybuddy does solve kinda solve this problem.. but its not an elegant solution.
major battery drain and the finger print sensor is blocked by the notifybuddy overlay..
I'm planning to buy the X2 pro and had the same question. Does the phone allow to see new app notification preview on screen off display (AOD)... and not just the app icon?
Currently I am using the mia1 and I am able to see new app notification flashes in Ambient mode... without waking the phone.

The screen edge flashes for a couple of seconds when you recieve something, though you can't know which app it is if you have multiple notifications. No preview as far as I've noticed.

Thanks. Sad to know that even an app icon doesn't show up on a screen off display If they want to move closer to stock Android these are some of the features they should have. Oxygen atleast has paid heed to this concern by releasing beta versions for op7 and op7t.
Personalising the screen off clocks doesn't help me much. I'd rather do away with the clock and mantra and get the msg preview feature in.
Thanks

Ah no, that's not what I mean. You get the icon, but it doesn't show the message or blink the icon (so if you have multiple icons, you don't know which is the current notification).
