There used to be an option to disable advanced network functions under USB to PC in the connections folder. In WM 6.5 I am unable to find such an option and Vista won't detect the phone.
Please help as I need to flash to an older ROM that will work with Navigon 7.31, which btw, anyone have recommendations?
Thanks.
usb to pc
Go to Start, settings, connections, usb to PC and uncheck "enable faster data synchronization.
When conecting my Note to a Winows PC via USB, on some computers I get 2 Removable Disks (i.e. E: & F, and in which to enable these drives to be viewed, I have to go to the alert screen on my Note and select enable USB.
Other times when connecting the Note to a PC, I get a Samsung Note listed un My Computer, and in that case I can just click on it and it will allow me to view contents of Note without having to enable it via the phone.
Any idea why this is?
Thanks
do you have usb debugging enabled?
The first Option called Mass Storage (Faster file transfer)
And the second one called MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).

Aha...
When I have USB Debgging on I get the the Mass Storage (phone shows up as removable disk) and when I have USB Debugging off I get the MTP (phone shows as GT-N7000)....
Thanks to you both!
Was searching for the same..glad you have posted...thanks guys!!!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Advantage of MTP is, while trying to copy some media files it ll ask you to "convert and copy". so that Note can play that media file.
To add to it!! MTP mode is slower than usb mode and while on MTP mode u can access the card on phone and computer simultaneously!!
SHOT from my LOADED GT-N7000!!
This is not the case for me
I have USB Debgging enabled, since I use adb for some stuff, however, usb will always be in MTP mode!
i disabled USB Debgging and tried it then enabled it again but it is always in MTP.
does anyone know why?
i am using rooted stock rom.

Bub,
Before you connect the cable open settings> wireless and network > usb utility > connect usb storage then it will ask you to connect the cable. Connect the cable and it should mount the phone as usb storage...
Hit thanks if it helped
Peave out!!

I think i have similar problem here. The only thing is that i could not connect to Samsung Kies. When I try to troubleshot it, connection error occurs.
What would I possibly do about it?
Suddenly this error has started to appear no matter on whichever system I connect. It was working fine the other night and I have always used this method for backup on my system.
Whenever I am trying to connect my Note to PC (for USB Mass Storage) I am getting an error "USB is connected. Remove the cable". I tried formatting USB storage, clear dalvik cache, wipe cache, factory reset, nandroid restore, enable / disable USB debugging, unmount SD, PC kies update, battery removal ... jut about everything but the error always persists.
On the other hand on all windows system (XP, Win7) it displays error "USB not recognized. One of the device malfunctioned". I tried reinstalling drivers, updates Kies but it is still the same.
Request all to kindly help. Thanks in advance.
PS: I am on GB 2.3.6 DDLB2 root+CWM
Ok here is the solution. It worked for me. Hope it helps someone
1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284#
Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. (Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.)
3. Plug the USB cable.

My OS version: ICS 4.0.4 Stock rom from Samsung. Phone is not rooted.
I am directly connecting to my Laptop (and not to USB hub) which is running Windows 7 Home premium.
Like in Stock 2.1 when we connect phone to PC, a popup menu says connect to pc,install pc companion bla bla...can we make it work on SDE Rom?
find it somewhere in settings, in the storage, you press the menu hardware key and click usb storage
I have been facing a strange problem since I updated my Nexus 6 to Android Marshmallow. When ever I am plugging the phone to my computer (Running Windows 7) using the usb cable, I am not being able to tranfer any files. Its showing a message which says that "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". Any help on this will be really appreciated

Yes. It shows that all drivers are installed correctly....In fact, the device also shows under device manager. Its just that no tranfer is possible between the phone and the computer
did you bring down notifications and change connection type to MTP?
In Marshmallow your connection to PC is in Charging Mode by default, you should bring down notifications select connection mode and change connection type to MTP(Media Transfer Protocol).
