Hi,
My query regards using the class CellSignalStrengthGsm in my Android Studio app, spefically the getTimingAdvance() method which I believe will return the GSM TA of a connected link with a base station. I am running Android 7.1 with API level of 25, and the problem is the getTimingAdvance() method is only implemented for API 26. I already use CellSignalStrengthLte, which implements a TA method from API 17 for Lte. I guess if I target an API of 26 in AS then it probably won't connect to the BB modem, so my only option is to upgrade the phone to Android 8 (API 26). Correct?
Thanks,
Greg

Can anyone point me to which file I need to query with SCP or CellMapper to directly get the EARFCN values? /dev/smd11 is the default, but seemingly incorrect.

Sorry very late answer but update last Android 7.0 and band reading working with API 4.2.
If you like use Qualcomm method your phone is rooted?
My phone is indeed rooted.
Are you saying that in Android 7.0, API 4.2 provides the information I'm asking about without needing to read that modem file?

Yes, on Android 7.0+ on Android Cell ID API 4.2+ included band information. Also depends manufacture and phone model how it implement to phone. Maybe not working customs roms, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi phones.
This is the Nexus 6 forum, so I'm likely using a Nexus 6.
I have since moved to 7.x and the band information is available.
can anyone of you tell me the latest versions of moto camera 2, camera tuner and editor installed on your phone?
On my phone, latest version for moto camera 2 is (7.0.48.20) and for photo editor (1.4.45.4), both last updated on 31 august. Latest version of camera tuner for G5S plus was published on 28 august (1.15.8). Are these the same on your phones as well?

Yes, all of them are same as you mentioned.
Requesting mods to close this thread as the question has been answered.
Guys my friend just bought a nexus 6, we want to install the pixel 2 camera on the phone. Is it possible to install it? I talking about the Google camera port
Nope. 64-bit software won't install on a 32-bit device.
i just update my nexus 6 to android 11, is it available to install gcam 8.1 on my device?
and also you guys can tell me the available version of gcam on nexus 6,

Google Camera 4.3 and up is 64-bit only, so version 8.1 is a hard no. If running Android 11, you need to install Google Camera 3ish (search the LineageOS thread for the exact version) as version 4.2 doesn't communicate with the camera hardware.
Hi guys!
I hope you all are well.
I git my P20 Pro and I would like to install a stock android version on it.
I am completely new in this area - I am an iOS switcher
I found already some tutorials but all of them say I would like to need a SD card etc..
Details:
Model: CLT-L29
Build Number: CLT-L29 8.1.0.107(C432)
EMUI Version: 8.1.0
Android Version: 8.1.0
Can you help me?
Not possible at this point, nor would you want to install stock android on this phone. I imagine most people bought this device because of the camera and installing stock android would completely destroy camera performance. Switch back to your old iPhone 6 because that would have better cameta performance than a P20 on stock android.

There are Project Treble (Stock 8.1, see here) ROMs that do work on our device, and with Project Treble comes also support for the hardware of the P20 Pro camera just that uses different software which in some cases (personal preference) works better as it uses less aggressive post processing.
Further to the above, I have tried the Project Treble ROMs (which do boot and successfully function) on our device however at the moment it comes with random rebooting every 10 minutes or so - so steer clear of it for now until this is fixed.
If you want to prepare for when these ROMs fully function - then I suggest that you unlock your bootloader (to do this, email Huawei Support with your IMEI number, Serial Number, Product ID and also the reason for unlock request - I suggest saying 'Development'. Bare in mind that this process may void your official Huawei warranty dependent on the trading regulation authority for your region ) and once you receive the unlock code then you can unlock via fastboot commands which will allow you to make device modifications such as installing ROMs or rooting your device.
Hope this helps
Any opinion?: firmware choice: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T810 [moved from Android General Q&A]
I'm looking for best bets for choosing a good firmware update for this older SM-T810 tablet that I still like. It is Wifi-only.
The tablet recently got very flaky on Android 5 so I let it install an auto-downloaded image for Android 6. The new image probably came from Samsung since I was told at purchase that device had official Samsung firmware for Android 5.1.1. (see ABOUT DEVICE below)
Things got worse using the new Android 6 image, so bad that I'm ready to install new firmware by sideloading.
1. Since the device was rooted by prior owner (see: DEVICE HISTORY below for details) I am guessing I have little to gain by sticking with an official Samsung image--unless nothing else works. Does that sound right? And, does anything prevent me from going the non-Samsung route?
2. If it makes sense at this point to try a non-Samsung image, my question for folks here boils down to this: where am I likely to have the best luck finding a build that will work well on the device? For example, I wonder
who are the most experienced makers of firmware for this older tablet?
and which version of Android--7 or 8? Should I avoid 8 or go for it?
(I've seen an unofficial Lineage OS build for Android 8. I believe that Android 7 builds exist, too.)
Thanks for any suggestions.

[DEVICE HISTORY, as far as I can say:
I bought in 2017 on swappa.com. Seller told me "What you would get out of the box is the official Samsung OEM firmware for Android 5.1.1 (XAR-T810XXU2BPB1-20160323135521) with the official Samsung recovery. Updates will apply without issue, either by directly loading with Odin or SmartSync, or doing an OTA firmware update....It is running pure stock firmware now. Since it was rooted at one point, the Samsung Knox flag is tripped. It's the only thing that would distinguish this device from a new-in-box tablet."]

Thanks. I didn't know it had GTS210 gpu.
Notebookcheck.net and Wikipedia show it as ARM Mali-T760 MP6.
Whatever, Lineage OS 15.1 doesn't seem to have any serious competition. Hope it works when I try it--first time jitters!
I got N on mine for a long time. Now I get O 15.1 linesgeos now. It looks like the best for gts210wifi for now.
