Can't get Netflix HD playback? - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

As per title, for some reason I can't get HD playback on my Pixel 5? In the Netflix app 'Playback Specification' it says the max resolution is SD only?!
I've tried clearing the data/cache and relogged in. I'm based in UK if that makes any difference. Any idea how to fix? My wife's S20 works plenty fine

Its looking ok on mine. (I'm in UK also)
Says maximum playback resolution: Full HD
googling seems to suggest a clear data fixed for others.
have you got your screen on some weird low res setting somehow, or in some sort of battery saving mode perhaps?

Thanks for the response. Cleared everything, uninstalled, reinstalled, even restarted the phone.... and still the same
Full battery, turned off Developer Mode (not that I had anything turned on), no weird settings, apps or anything else. I'm pretty much a stock user so I barely twiddle any settings..

I have the same issue. SD only. Bootloader is locked and nothing has been messed with.

I just checked my widevine level with the drm info app and it is on L3!? Anyone else having the same issue?

Not sure what widevine is but in the Netflix app under the Playback specification mine also says L3?

[Q] nooki froyo video playback?

Im running the customized nookie froyo from emmc 0.6.8 and video playback desnt work. According to nookdvs the youtube app works as of last version. The first frame of video shows then freezes thn only the audio continues. The audio even continues when youtube app is closed which is annoying but not a dealbreaker. Does video work for other nookie froyo users and if so how did you do it?
Ok tried it one last time and its fine..... not sure what sure what happened but yay
Ok, it works sometimes, though still kinda sketchy. Anybody running the 2/25 update yet? Is video any better?

Ok then, I'm sold. Off to flash - I'll report back here.
So all video playback works now or just YouTube?

All videos work. I just stayed up all night converting HD TV shows in Handbrake and they look great. The video backend is fully working, as there is no way the Nook Color's CPU can decode them.
Froyo is where the party is at!!!!
I will concur: youtube works awesome. Vimeo in Browser shows HD video beautifully. I haven't loaded any video content myself yet, but I imagine it would work well also.
wifi still seems glitchy - it drops connection on sleep and sometimes won't give it back on wake. This could be a settings problem though.
Battery life seems pretty dismal too, but this is probably related to the OC kernel.
Notifications are still strangely squished. Not a big deal but ugly.
I think those are all my complaints. This is probably the best nc experience I've yet enjoyed.

I use the Market program "Soft Locker" to fix that problem.

[Q] Nook HD+: Youtube shuts off tablet

I am having a issue. I got my nook hd +, I put CyanogenMod11 on and it works great except for youtube. If I use the youtube app, or browse there on chrome and watch a video my nook just powers off. Abruptly. No message just, zap its off. It sometimes takes a few minutes, sometimes its instant. Im at a loss as to what direction to take to fix this.

My wild guesses...
Perhaps you flashed wrong google apps package that has youtube included. Not sure what wrong gapps would do anyway to youtube from store as well.
Not a clean install of cm11.
Messed with the performance settings or other settings and did a bad job of it.
Hardware problem.
If its sdcard install then try emmc.

I used the provided gapps, there were two, one if you planned on using ART, another if you didn't. I have tried both on 2 different clean installs. I wiped everything both times. This issue is not just on youtube as it has now occurred a few other times with different apps. I am really at a loss now. I'm hoping this isn't a hardware issue. It doesn't feel warm on the back. I just don't get it.

Video playback issue

Hello,
This phone is much more than what I expected for the price, it feels faster and battery lasts longer than the ZenFone 5 I'm currently using.
I have an issue though. When playing web video through Firefox, Twitter app or YouTube app the video remains frozen on the first image but audio continues to plays fine. Using Chrome video plays choppy, like 1fps, and audio continues to play normally.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I converted this from Prime to non-Prime and is rooted. I didn't test before doing these changes, but I suppose that shouldn't have any adverse effect.
I rooted added 128 GB card and removed ads and Amazon apps and install Xposed and gravity box on mine. No issues for me including video. This phone works at least as well as my iPhone 6. Did you try on a different connection?

Hello,
It's not a bandwidth issue. The videos play but are not rendered (at least not properly) on the screen. You can hear the audio from the video, but you see only the first frame of the video or a black rectangle.
I'll say it's something related to the gpu.

I don't have this issue. I would return the phone to Amazon ASAP if factory reset doesn't fix it.
Hello,
I went into recovery and did a cache and dalvik wipe, now everything works as it should.
Thanks for the replies.

I'm having the same issue and that did not fix it. Youtube stutters, instagram videos, and even the camera viewfinder.

Camera Crashing

As background: I've had the OP1, 2 , 3 and now am on the 3T. When I got the 3T, i booted it up and noticed the OTA update. I downloaded that and installed it. I'm now running 3.5.3. I then unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP, and rooted. Then installed xposed. set DPI to 400. All working fine, no issues. Same as the previous phones. Then I spent a few hours tweaking and restoring photos, etc.
Ok, finally ready to use lol. I used the phone to navigate on a work trip and had no problem. bluetooth connectivity, GPS, LTE on tmobile, all good.
I get to my destination and of course I finally find a bug. I take 1 photo and everything is good. if i try to take another photo... camera crashes. Similarly, if i take the first photo and back out of the camera app, i can no longer go back into the camera app because the camera won't initialize. i am using the stock camera. i tried using the footej app as well and had the same issue.
wondering if anyone else is experiencing this bug. when i reboot, the camera works again... but only for one photo.
I've seen people complaining about UX and specifically camera UX problems after changing the DPI from stock. Try putting it back and seeing what happens.

will do so shortly. waiting for my phone to complete its first full charge. currently sitting at 90%. I was thinking it might be the DPI. in CM 3.2.7 on the OP3, 400 didn't result in any interface glitches. in 3.5.3 the downslider menu is slightly messed up and the long press power / reboot icons are also messed up. i figured i could deal with it but without a working camera i cannot. i'll play with the DPI and see if it fixed it, and then i'll try to find something other than 400 that might do the trick.

Sounds good. Let me know what you find. The first thing I was going to do when I get my 3T was drop the dpi, but if it borks everything, then I guess I won't. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but DHL sucks....

a) dhl does suck. phone was in NYC all of friday and was only delivered on Monday. oh well. no big deal. just a matter of timing and routing. can't change that.
b) i cleared dalvik cache and cache in twrp and rebooted prior to going for my full charge. camera works fine now. so DPI at 400 is fine. so feel free to change your DPI to 400, but note the interface glitches

that's a good suggestion if it were the problem. but i do like your suggestion. ive always used app settings to edit individual apps to be a smaller DPI. never thought to edit apps to be default DPI.
problem resurfaced. i changed dpi back to the stock dpi and problem still persists. wonder why.

Remove xposed for test...
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
i disabled the oneplus camera. so far so good. don't want to remove xposed if don't have to.
only issue I have now is the lock screen camera shortcut cannot be set to anything. once I disable the camera, the shortcut goes away permanently.

Question Mi 11 has problems with pop up videos, notifications and pixelated screen.

Hi, I have problems with my phone. When im watching for example netflix and when I swipe down to get notification center or settings center my phone keeps flickering or pixelating the screen. It happens on all frequencies, 60Hz or 120Hz. It happens on FHD mode and WQHD mode. With old control center and new. Ive tryed everything to default and to the edited mode for example WQHD 60Hz and that stuff. Still same, and I have that reboot problem when im on 4G.
Has anyone experienced something like this and what to do about it?
No.

That was a bug I experienced awhile back in a beta or weekly that was fixed with the newer MIUI 13 weekly or stable ( I used MMX but I had also the same issues on EU ) I had the exact same issues with Netflix and the pixelated screen when pulling down the notification bar. The only bug now, which is specifically I think to streaming service like Netflix app, Disney+, is that background blur doesn't work when pulling down the notification shade but it's a bug I have seen only on those two apps( I tried hulu and YouTube, NBC sports and they work fine). I agree tried all my other video streaming apps and services and Netflix is the only one that gives me that Issues. At least is not pixelated anymore.
