Hello,
I kindly request your support for this issue. I can not connect my Moto Z (XT-1650-03, Type: M1B90) Android Auto to my VW Golf 2016.
- Stock Android 7.0, all related apps including the Play Services up to date.
- Recently updated to 7.0, but same behavior as 6.0.1 (factory version)
I read that this could be a cable issue but I already tried 4 cables without success (including stock cable).
Problem: Android Auto is not connected with my Moto Z phone.
Question:
Am I missing something?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behaviors:
- The phone is always charging while the cable is connected to the car.
- When the cable is connected, the car and the phone attempt to connect but the connection is broken afterwards. The car displays that the connection is on going and the phone prompts to me the connection type, after some seconds the connection is "broken" before it was finished
- Sometimes after several tries I can see my phone listed in the car for less than a second and then the connection is "broken".
- The default connection for USB is set for MTP in my Moto Z, but, the charging mode is always triggered first when connected.
- I can only see in my car "Reading USB device" which keep flashing.
- In my phone I can see an upcoming notification about this connection and then it disappears. This notification flashes every ~5 seconds.
- I can connect my phone with the PC and connect it as MTP to copying files and the connection is never lost (using the same cables).
Cables:
All cables were Male USB Type A to Male USB Type C.
1. Moto Z Stock Cable:
The connection is started but never finished, the phone and the car keep trying to connect while the cable is connected.
2. Belkin USB-IF Certified 2.0: Same as the Moto Z stock cable. Bought from amazon:
3. Generic 'White' Cable: No connection at all.
4. Generic 'Black' Cable:
Similar to Moto Z stock and Belkin cable, the only difference is that this cable sometimes the connection was finished and the Moto Z was listed in the car phone list for a brief moment (~1 second).
All the cables are 3 Feet lenght but the Belkin which was 6 Feet lenght.
Additional Information:
I purchased the Moto Z one week ago, before this phone I had a Moto X 2nd (XT-1097) which was working correctly with my car. I tried several micro USB cables for the Moto X without any problem (stock and other brands).
Using the same car and my Moto X 2nd I tried two android versions:
- Stock Lollipop 5.x, worked OK but the contact pictures were not synced.
- Custom CM14.1 Nougat 7.1, worked OK (contact pictures synced correctly).
Have you got Bluetooth connected before you start?
Have you got app connect on the head unit?
Mtp is a red herring in my experience.
Sony z5, 2016 golf with nav pro and app connect working well.
Sent from my sumire using Tapatalk
I have a Skoda Octavia VRs with same head unit and it works flawlessly with a HTC 10 (personal) but is always problematic with my work Moto G Play. Both are running versions of Marshmallow.
Sometimes the Moto G will stop working mid way through a navigation session which seems to be a result of the head unit "losing" the Moto G.
I have got it to work by uninstalling the AA app on the Moto G and reinstalling then ensuring i follow ALL on screen requests on the Moto G (both AA and system requests) before it works. However i have little confidence in it working..........
I have a Skode Superb with the same head unit. One of the problems most people have is with the clock of the headunit. You have to set the time to "Automatic (GPS)" or something alike. My headunit is in dutch so unfortunately I can't tell you what the exact words are. This might solve your problem.
Hi, I had the same issue on Polo 2016.
In my case, the issue was the connecting mode on the Android phone.
If you have in notification area the shortcut to change the USB connecting mode while cable connected, try to change it to MTP or other (mine worked with MIDI).
If you don't have it, just enable the Developer mode (tap 5 times on Compilation Number on Settings App > About).
Then on Settings app under developer options, check on network section the USB mode; switch there to more appropriate mode.
Hope to have helped.
Hello,
Thanks for your support and sorry for the delay, I was pretty busy. I already tried everything that you suggested without luck:
@goRt: Yes my car has App Connect, in fact the android auto works fine with my Moto X CM 14.1. I tried with bluetooth on and off.
@freenfast: I uninstalled the android auto app, even I performed a factory reset for my Moto Z and for the car, afterwards I only installed the android auto and it didn't worked.
@ljo13: I could not find that option in my car, I searched in all the menues without luck. In date & time menu I only found the summer time option and time and date formats.
My car do not have an in built navy, so, it is possible we have a different HU. My phone is set to get the cell network time zone.
@bluryfusion: In the past I only tried with MTP, but, unfortunately it didn't worked. If I select as default other connections, then, the car displayed "USB device not supported" and then the connection is automatically changed to MTP again. I tried with: Charging, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source and MIDI.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The android auto connection is only possible with MTP with my phone and car, but, the problem is that the connection is broken every single time. Sometimes my device is recognized by the car for a brief moment (~1 second) and then the connection is broken and it tries to connect again; so, what I see in my phone and car is an 'inifnite' loop of Trying to connect -> Connection broken -> Trying to connect.
Note: I also get a new Belkin USB 3.1 type A to Type C cable and it's the same issue.
Hello,
A little update, I found that in the notification access I had two Android Auto entries:
1. Android Auto
2. Android Auto (Car Mode)
When you install the AA into your phone, you are prompted to activate the first one only, meaning that the Car Mode remains inactive.
Anyhow, I activate both entries and still the same behavior
To find this, open Settings > Apps > click cogwheel > Special Access > Notification access
Sorry to resurrect an old thread here guys, but I think I have found the solution to this problem...
I was having the same issue with my Ford Sync 3, would work with my old Moto x play but would just disconnect when trying to load android auto with my new Moto z play
After playing about with both phones, I noticed on my Moto x that when connected I would get a Google play services notification saying that my car was now connected, which wasn't happening g on my Moto z
Checking the Google play services version number I noticed that my Moto x (which is on lineage 14.1) is running a later version then my Moto z (which is on stock 7.0 ROM). A quick Google gave me a link for the latest version of Google play apps apk, after installing android auto now boots up fine on my Moto z!!!
Hello,
i have a P30 Pro with the Firmware VOG-L29 9.1.0.178(C431E4R2P2) and a problem with Android Auto.
If i connect the P30Pro with my car, there is a connection error.
The USB Settings on the phone switch automaticly to only charging. If i switch to data transfer it changes automaticly to only charging.
On the last Firmware i have no problems with the connections to Android Auto.
Have anybody the same probleme or an idea?
Thank you
Lapidu
Sometimes, I have to select the data transfer setting two or three times before it will connect to the car. But it always works after 2 or 3 times. USB debugging might also make it work better.
I have no problems and never had. Also i never changed the connection mode, nor did i enable usb debugging. I'm using the original cable, though. Some cars/phones seem to have problems with cheap usb cables, my dad also noticed that but is fine after using the original one.
Was it working once? Did you registered the car in Android Auto or has is failed ever since? Is there a message on the phone?
Witch firmware do you have? And what for a model?
Worked on every firmware since beginning (185 atm). 128 GB Version
I have similar issue, the connection "dies" everytime I connect it to the car for the first time after being parked. Takes about 1-2 minutes, then it disconnects. I haven't investigated what the phone does, but my quickfix is usually to plug the cable in/out. After that, the connection is stable. The issue started around .162 or .165
Hi all. I have this problem as well. Just bought a carplay, but my P30 Pro (Android 10) wouldn't connect at all. I tried with different cables, including original one, still no luck. WIth any other cable it works fine from a Samsung Note 10+. Any idea?
I have the same issue with my P30 pro and civicX
After emui 10 I just can't use android auto in the car.
I have the app on my phone, and it works on the phone. But when I connect to the car it wont work.
(all the Samsungs and apple that I have home work perfectly)
I'm using emui 10 and android auto.
I have the same problem as all people here.
After usb plug, only charge (that's not important) . Some times connects at first time and some other i have to select other usb connection mode (i discovered unplug cable is not necessary)
Will try to change usb cable with the original one
Hello there! I'm trying to connect my P30 Pro with Android Auto on a Seat Leon. I always receive an error message and the connection with android auto always fails. I tried to enable Usb Debug, to install old versions of AA on my phone (for example v. 5.3 and v. 5.4). I'm using the originale data cable (actually two of them since I have two P30 pro at home). AA worked well with my old Samsung Note 8 and Mate 10 Pro. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you!
you guys need better cables, use the factory Huawei one and you'll have no issues.
I'm using two original cables (I have two P30 Pro at home). It isn't a cable problem but probably an issue with Android 10 and Android Auto. This problem affects different recent models of Huawei (P30 pro, mate 20 pro..).
Hello there! Just an update, AA doesn't work only with the Seat Leon. I tried other cars and everything is ok. I will try to update Full Link Seat.. It should solve the issue. Byee

Hello! My p30 pro can connect with Hyundai kona (2021) via usb cable. But in wireless mode, the coonection has issue: the wificonnection is over the 4g+ connection, so, I don't have mobile data on the kona's device. What can I do?
Hi,
i would ask you an help about a problem related to Android Auto.
Assumptions:
Phone: Xiaomi RedMi Note 9S
MIUI Version: 13.0.1
Android Version: 12 SKQ1.211019.001
Android Auto Version: 8.0.6.623354-release
Car Head Unit: Sync 3.4 on Ford Puma St-Line X
One week ago i purchased my new car. Everything was perfect, but when i tried to connect my Xiaomi to the Head Unit through Android Auto, i realized that the screen casting had an awful image quality: Android Auto seems in low resolution, and sometimes appear some colour artifacts (photos attached).
So, i tried to understand if the problem was my Car Head Unit, or my Xiaomi. I connected various phone to the Head Unit, and in those cases the connection and the display quality were perfect.
Aswell, i tried to connect my phone to different cars, and to the Android Auto Desktop Emulator, and i kept having always the same horrible quality image.
So, from this i got that the problem was my Xiaomi.
I tried everything: with different USB 3.0 Type C cables, i tried entering developer options and change the resolution, i tried the Debug USB mode, i tried deleting and re-installing Android Auto App, and i tried aswell to download a newer beta-version of AA... nothing worked.
But i discovered something: i tried to connect two other Xiaomis... two Xiaomi RedMi Note 10. I imagined that, being the same phone, they would have had the same results. But...
Xiaomi RedMi Note 10 with MIUI 13.0.3 and Android 12 SP1A = no problems, perfect screen casting
Xiaomi RedMi Note 10 with MIUI 13.0.6 and Android 12 SKQ1 = low resolution, like my Xiaomi RedMi Note 9s
Alle three phones had both the same Android Auto version (8.0.6.623354-release).
So.. it's possible that my Android Auto problem comes from the Android 12 SKQ version?
Someone else had my same problem? There is a way to fix this, or, maybe, to change the Android version from 12SKQ to 12SP1A?
I had that problem on Xiaomi, worked better if you activate developer options and adjust the video resolution in AA

Hi,
I also facing this issue since update to Miui 13
Try this method (worked for me)
1. enable Android auto developer mode
On Android Auto's options page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see a field called Version. Tap this several times until you see a prompt to enable developer options. Accept this and you'll now be able to access Android Auto developer mode
2. Go to Android auto developer mode setting, there you should find and Set the following Parameters :
- Application Mode : Released
- Video Resolution : Allow car and phone to negotiate
3. Restart Your phone and try connect to car again, all display resolution should back to normal.
Hope it help

Hi Yacald,
sadly in these months i didn't find a solution. I tried asking in every forum, reddit, etc.. but nothing new.
I bought some days ago the "AAWireless dongle": i'll try to check if, using the wireless connection instead of the usb-cable, something changes.
redmi note 9pro
13.0.4 ind
same problem after update
[SOLVED]
@everyone:
I found a way to "get around" the problem. Using the "official" AAWireless dongle ( https://www.aawireless.io/ ), so not using the cabled USB connection, i had no more resolution problems.
I know that buying something else isn't a real solution, but at least this is a way to use AA in a good quality.
Actually there are a lot of cheaper dongles than this on Amazon, but i didn't try them, so don't know if they will resolve aswell the problem.
Hope this will help anyone that was in my situation.
Greetings from Italy
with such success, i can change the phone and not look for a problem )))
I have the exact same problem... Only wifi is our hope?
Hi guys,
I noticed that Android Auto displays with the right resolution for the first moments of connecting the smartphone to the car, after which the resolution is lowered by our Miui.
So, I used SysLog from Play Store, with root permissions, to recorder the logs produced when you connect your smartphone to the car, and I got these lines which I hope for the more experienced guys mean something:
Code:
01-07 11:47:07.490 D/CompatibilityInfo( 2390): mCompatibilityFlags - 0
01-07 11:47:07.491 D/CompatibilityInfo( 2390): applicationDensity - 440
01-07 11:47:07.491 D/CompatibilityInfo( 2390): applicationScale - 1.0
I understand that it would be enough to change the value of applicationDensity at runtime to eliminate the low resolution problem, but I have no idea if it is something that can be done or not, and which Miui application defines this value.
I hope someone with more experience can understand something more and maybe make a fix
Hello all,
I have exactly the same issue since the update from Android 11 to 12.
And no problem with a device always under Android 11.
Problem with this phone :
REDMI Note 10
MIUI 13.0.4 / Android 12
Android Auto 8.5.624594
No problem with this one :
REDMI 10C
MIUI 13.0.3 / Android 11
Android Auto 8.5.624594
I just discovered and try to change the resolution, but without any effect
Have the same issue. Sync 3.4 is the head unit. Has a Redmi note 9 pro. Issue started with miui 13 update.
I finally installed a custom rom and the issue still persists. I hoped that custom rom would solve the issue.
As another user mentioned, for couple of seconds i connect the phone, resolution is excellent. Then it just goes to the low resolution mode. Developer settings and forcing high resolution has no effect .
Same here. Worked flawless before on MIUI 12.
So it is totally a bug in MIUI 13 (Android 12) having Android Auto integrated into the OS now and not having a standalone app anymore.
Again they didn't do their homework.
E: Can confirm that the resolution is fine a few seconds after AA started up but then progresses dynamically to a low resolution. Also I noticed that the sound quality is also decreasing? Sometimes clipping / distortion.
E2: Guys, please give some feedback using the AA feedback option:
System settings > Connection & Sharing > Android Auto > "..." menu > help & feedback.
And also the MIUI internal feedback option: System settings >scroll down to "Services & feedback" > Submit feedback (I selected item = "other google apps")
Let's make them hear us. I send the MIUI developers the MIUI bug report including trace logs and also the below photos/video.
E3: I also opened a bug report for my Xiaomi.eu ROM which is based on the official MIUI rom as well here: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...now-has-low-screen-resolution-and-sound.67888

It’s fine here and with wireless dongle it’s resolution is very high. No problem with Xiaomi, I guess it is your car.

It's the car when the only thing which changed is MIUI? Unlikely. Also take a closer look at the opening post, the user made a screenshot from the emulated head unit. probably running in Android Studio. So if it's even happening in an emulated environment the reason is 1000% clear to me.
Which version of MIUI are you using and Android Auto? Maybe try again with a wired connection as wireless has been identified by one user above to be working around this problem somehow.
E: I now also started MIUI 13's Android Auto together with an emulated Desktop Head Unit (via Android Studio). I face the same issues. So it's clearly MIUI here.
Hello,
Yes indeed, I saw others post where users "solved" this issue with the usb dongle.... Pretty expensive solution
In this article , they're talking about the new Android Auto update, which could be expand to Samsung and Xiaomi devices.... Hope it'll solve this issue
Can confirm that buying a wireless dongle (It's very cheap now on aliexpress), solves the resolution problem. And its good for the phones' battery
Hello,
I have a Huawei P30 Pro sw EMUI 12.0.0.134(C461E1R1P2) VLOG-L29 and I cannot connect to Android Auto (Mercedes Benz). the problem must be an incompatibility of P30 PRO since the AA works fine with other Phones.
I've reset Mem&cache of AA App, updated the AA SW version and the other Apps. Also testing developer AA menu optons.
I have come to connect sometimes with difficulty to AA car but I am not able to find a pattern so that it works well continuously. When I try to connect again it doesn't work.
My AA version is 8.3.624134.
I am surprised that there is no posts about it since I imagine that Huawei phones will have many compatibility problems with AA.
Anybody can help me?
BR
Jorge
Works fine with Dacia AA(wired). Don't have a MB to test...same version AA
Did it work with EMUI 11?
Now I can connect. I've done three actions:
1. Buy a new official cable.
2. Update all the Apps. It's important that Google assistant works well.
3. In developers menu, tick on developer mode.
Now AA works fine but sometimes it disconnects. Maybe I have to revise battery savings App conf., or the screen must be ON all the time. I don't know ..
I've used P30 pro for both wired and wireless AA without any problem for more than year. So .
- You dont need official Huawei USB cable, any decent cable will do. I believe that was your problem, bad cable
- Updating all apps is in general good thing to do, but it doesn't influence connection with AA at all
- Forget developers mode, please . No need to think about it, and you actually may harm your phone by playing with it. It doesn't have any influence on AA
Enjoy AA in your vehicle

I completely agree with your appreciations. I’ve forgotten using developers mode and it seems to work. I bought a high quality cable and I cleaned the USB-C connector.
Currently I only have a problem: disconnections every few minutes (variable from 2-10 minutes). I am testing some things: AA permissions, non Battery savings, always on of the screen … but I can't find a pattern. Any idea what can be the problem? Does it happened the same to you with your P30 PRO wired to AA?
BR
I've switched to S22U last two months, so i cant share fresh experiences, but i can say that i haven't had any disconnection issues while P30p was not moving while connected to car.
But, when i moved phone for any reason, it would lost connection occasionaly. I've concluded that was caused by weak connection, and haven't investigated it further.
well, In my case it seems to be a cabling problem. I bought 2 high-quality cables, 1-meter long and 2-meter long. I had tested the shorter one. This morning I tested the longest one and my P30 isn't able to connect AA.
I'll buy a shorter cable (0,3 or 0,5m) in order to test again..
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my Xiaomi 12T Pro and Android Auto. I've been using Android Auto wirelessly via Bluetooth on my KIA CEED 2023 MY(wireless support) for the past three weeks without any issues. I even updated my phone to Android 13 and MIUI 14 about 2 weeks ago, and everything still worked fine.
However, couple days ago when I was driving my car, Android Auto suddenly stopped working during my drive. Since then, I've tried factory reset of my KIA infotainment system, network setting reset, unpairing and repairing Bluetooth, and even installing the latest version of the AA mirror apk. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the current version of AA from Google Play, but I still can't connect to Android Auto wirelessly and the only error message is during the attempt of connecting: "The phone is not responding. Try it again".
The connection with a cable works fine. I tried 3 other phones on my car - all work. I tried to connect my Xiaomi 12T Pro to a different car and I have the same problem as on my Kia.
Even Android Auto support seems to be helpless. I shared with them a bug report, tried some suggested setups, but nothing works..
Does anybody have any ideas or have same experience?
Hello, the same thing happens to me with the carplay of my mercedes benz. And driving seems to disconnect my Xiaomi 12T PRO. I still don't have a solution from the manufacturer Xiami or the manufacturer of the carplay module. Is there anyone who can help us?
First of all, make sure you have the latest available firmware for your headunit. I don't know where you live but in some regions the Kia and Hyundai headunits can be upgraded by using the Kia Navigation Update application and a spare USB thumbdrive.
This said, I've had similar issues in a Kia Rio when using Android Auto wirelessly:
* Make sure the hour and date are set correctly in your headunit. Sometimes the headunit craps itself while trying to get the GPS hour and it sets incorrectly, wich causes conectivity issues with Android Auto
* Make sure your phone is not connected to any other bluetooth device before connecting to the headunit. I have a couple Xiaomi phones and neither of them is able to use Wireless Android Auto if they're connected to a wireless headphones, a laptop or a smartwatch. I don't understand why this happens but only happens with Xiaomi phones.
* MIUI has a battery optimization feature wich kills some apps and background services to save energy. Even if you disable it for some of your apps, sometimes a MIUI update will override this and cause problems. Make sure Android Auto, Google Maps, your music app and your messaging apps are excluded from the battery saver features, and make sure Google Maps has the location permission set to "all the time".
* Unpair your phone from the headunit and sync it again.
* Go to Android Auto settings (in your phone) and make sure that Wireless Android Auto toggle is enabled. Disable the Android Auto's developer mode if it's enabled.
* Factory reset the headunit and try to sync your phone again. The first time you sync the phone, do it with the USB cable.

Even Android Auto support seems to be helpless. I shared with them a bug report, tried some suggested setups, but nothing works..
Does anybody have any ideas or have same experience?

Turn off power saving settings clear cache when locked & disable mobile data when locked
then Check battery saving settings for android auto app and system service. Also turn off miui memory optimization, just because. It always fcks up background processes at little gain to the user.
Edit: apparently most of these settings are gone in MIUI14.0.5 global rom/Android 13
Thanks for your advice guys. Meantime, I did a factory reset, and since then everything works fine.
ALas its a miui bug known since ages. If the device for whatever reason losses connection to the mobile network the devs somehow made sure the device disconnnects any Wifi connection. Hence AA stopping working.
Want to test tthis?
Simply deactivate mobile data on your phone and activate it again.
