Hi, this is my first post, sorry for my english is not my native language. OK, let's put my problem up now, i'am trying to root for some personal uses and for knowleged, but the ROM i chose to root is giveing my some headaches, i'am using Pixel Experience (i wanted the extended but it won't download in my pc) and everytime i try to install with TWRP it's got stuck on a bootloop, i tried to use the bootloop fix from the TWRP but it did not work so i discover that i need to factory reset, in the recovery mode from the ROM, to get this thing going but this bring the problem that the TWRP don't recognize the memory of my phone (looks like it got encrypted again ¬¬) so this is my problem. Someone knows how to solve it ? I'am using the version 3.0.1 from the TWRP, yes i know there is a more updated version but everytime i install the ROM it got the TWRP deleted to put up the ROM Recovery, so i got to use a version to boot it up form my pc. I really want to know how to root and i searched the web for far to long and i'm very confused too. Thanks for any help.

For Android 11 custom ROMs, you will need to use TWRP 3.4 by Nebrassy which installs Magisk wonderfully. You can get the img file here https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682947337 .
With that img downloaded, boot to it by using fastboot, then tap on "Advanced" button, "Install Recovery Ramdisk", then select the img again to install it definitely. This will overwrite the original ROM TWRP (and vice-versa).
If you don't understand any specific part of my reply, feel free to point it out.

I recently changed back my build.prop to the original one that i backed up before. Then my device cannot boot anymore. It is stuck in the ASUS splash screen when i boot the device.
Then I flash the latest CWM recovery. But even the latest version it cannot do anything like factory reset or flash zip.
After that, i tried to use the "wipe data" in the bootloader, it doesn't work either (still stuck in the splash screen).
And then i tried cold boot linux and it also doesn't work. Up to this point, I cannot find anyway to fix it.
However, I found that adb is somewhat working in CWM recovery. I tried "adb push build.prop /system/build.prop" (the build.prop is extracted from the US_epaduser_10_26_1_7_UpdateLauncher.zip package from ASUS official site), it doesn't work either.
I put the US_epaduser_10_26_1_7_UpdateLauncher.zip package from asus support site in sd card and tried to flash it by CWM recovery, it doesn't work either.
AFTER ALL THESE PROCEDURE, i think the system is corrupted because of some possible dirty wipe
IS THERE ANY WAY TO WIPE EVERYTHING AND RESET THE whOLE SYSTEM?
i feel like my device is completely dead... so i need help and solution asap
my device is unlocked, rooted, and updated to 10.26.1.7 android 4.3.
it is a US version.
btw i asked ASUS support and they said they would charge CAN$330 for fixing it (replacing the main board), which is.........

Since it seems that cwm works did you make nandroid backup before you started fiddling with the Rom? ( basic rule nr.1)
When not go to the boot loader screen and do a factory reset there (third icon from left).
But maybe you can do that also from within cwm but I do not know if it is in there.
The official update zip you must unzip that first and then put the new zip on the sdcard, can't do that from cwm.
Let it reboot and it must start flashing.

So is there any ways to fix it without sending it to asus repair ccenter?
I want to make sure that
1. The wipe data function in the bootloader works
2. Does wiping data in bootloader fix the build.prop problem
Or do anyone of you have any idea of solving tthis problem?
sorry for my bad english

Wipe data is like factory reset.
Unzip the firmware package and put the zip on your microSD. Then reboot and let it flash.
This way you get all a clean fresh install

Sorry to disagree..
I would NOT wipe from the bootloader with a custom recovery installed! People have hard bricked their tablets that way!

That works only with the stock recovery, not with a custom recovery. But you should be able to flash the once unzipped firmware in CWM. That would flash you back to stock, including the stock recovery.
Next time you install CWM your first action should be to make a nandroid.
If it doesn't work please explain why and what. Just "doesn't work" is not helpful - do you get error messages?
Explain - in detail - your steps.
Since you said you flashed CWM you do have fastboot access?
Forgot that you aren't on stock recovery.
When you still get into the recovery did you unzip the factory firmware zip before you tried to flash it?
First give that a try.
Volume-up + power pressed normally would get you into apx mode but since we have no Nvflash files available you can't do anything with that.
So unpack and put the factory firmware zip on you sdcard and flash from custom (think you have cwm installed) recovery (choose install and choose the file you put on your microSdcard).

There are a number of users with the same issue. Asus seems to have pushed an incompatible update to WW users (Man! They are really scre*** the release of this device! Unbelievable...)
Head over to the General section, there are a couple of threads dealing with this issue. The fix seems to be to wipe data and manually re-install the 10.26.1.7. (and ignore the update notifications you'll get again!)
But read the threads before you do so...

Haha funny :cyclops:, same problem for the UK devices too (i see you´re from London?)? OMG!
I´m a german user and a bunch of peopole here also had this kind of issue after they did the last update from 4.3 to any newer release, since 27th dezember 2013 there´s no valid reply from ASUS and (for my understanding) the invalid software update is still on the servers and get sent to the EU users (...).
@ XDA: do you know, where i could find out the local storage where on my device the *.zip (or what ever) is saved, so that i could manually delete it? To make sure i´ll receive a newer one in future? Or did this (incorrect 250,8MB file) will be replaced by the newer one?
Regards
Silver
Try the root of your internal sdcard or in the download folder.

where can i delete this file
Hi guys,
i've got the same issue, sent the device to the service and replaced a part of it, but because they've went over the 15 days period where they should have send it back ( fixed or not) I got a new one.
i updated to 4.3 and this time again i got prompted to install the crap update, but i didn't. Now i want to delete this file but i can't find it. if my kid or someone else will accidentally say OK to the update i'm back to older version ( at the best) .
so will be highly appreciated if anybody will provide a solution to remove this file.
thx

It'll be on the cache partition, which you can only access from the stock recovery - you'll need to boot to nthe boot loader, choose rck and mess around with power and volume up / down until the menu appears. Then choose wipe cache. But it will come back when you next check for an update......
Well guys this is my first time on the forums. My phone is rendered near useless right now. A few days ago, i rooted my phone via towelroot. as a friend reccomended, i installed ROM manager and flashed clockworkmod recovery. I backed up my stock, perfect ROM with CWM and decided to try installing cyanogenmod 10.3.1......... it wouldn't install. I even tried other apps like ROM installer. Then i came across the handy dandy Cyanogenmod Installer. This seemed great, i didn't have to do anything except click a few buttons on my PC. as i was ready to enjoy a new custom ROM, the following message popped up, "Root access possibly lost. Fix?". I was given the options of "No" and "Yes - Fix root (/system/xbin/su)". i chose the second one, and waited for my device to boot. when it did, it was stock Touchwiz Android version 4.4.2, just like i had initially. what's more is my imei and bandwidth version were both "unknown" and i my sim card was undetected. I decided that technology had gotten the better of my and i tried to flash my old stock ROM back on. i found the file in recovery mode but it kept saying "no files found" whenever i clicked on it. I tried the cyanogenmod installer again, this time choosing "No", resulting in exactly the same scenario. At this point, I would be fine having the stock ROM since i have had such bad luck with the "developer's world" of Android.......... PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Another note:
ROM manager now is telling me that CWM is not installed, yet it is present in recovery mode......

Have you tried installing some other recovery, like TWRP? You won't be able to install CM from it, but you should be able to install other roms.

follow the guide and replace your recovery easily. after flashing, what recovery you have flashed will be default recovery, i recommend philz, they are all downloadable in the guide

Would I have to uninstall CWM? I'm just wondering if the file for CWM will still be on my phone. I'll check out the link.

it´s the best if you also do a format of internal sd in recovery before changing the recovery, because sometimes there are some folders left of it in interrnal memory and you cant delete it, do that if this will be the case. but i think Philz and CWM use same folder, so if you flash philz it will be okay if im correct otherwise you can always format internal sd afterwards
Edit: dont use rom manager for recovery actions, use recovery itself, much more reliable

I have done that a few times by mistake I would download the rom on a thumb drive and use my otg cable to plug it in flash it from the thumb drive in recovery.
You can also side load it as well, yet I have never done it that way so you would have to search that.
I have also read some say download the rom to your pc and and plug in phone and drag the rom to your sdcard.
If all else fails you can always return to stock via rsd or mfastboot as long as you can get into download mode.
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. I am having Moto x 2013 edition and tried to flash CM11 ROM using thumb drive in recovery mode but the "failed" message was coming , is it a compatibility issue of ROM with My device? As i told that i am new to all these things can you please guide me or share with me a link for any good ROM which i could flash on my Moto x and make it functional again.
Also if i want to get back to my stock ROM i.e. Kitkat 4.4 then how to do it? will i be able to update to lollipop in future?
Sorry for asking so many questions and thanks again for your support.
It sounds more like you should flash your phone back to stock and leave it there until you understand what you're doing. With the number of guides available anymore, the entire flashing process should be dead simple and difficult to mess up. Add to the fact that wiping/formatting partitions always prompts for confirmation before actually deleting things, and it shows that you don't really have any knowledge about what is going on. Keeping your phone stock until you do know what you're doing is only going to save you from having a paperweight in the long run.
Thanks a lot!!!! with your support i am able to flash my phone on cyanogen12
Thanks agian...
I have tried to boot in recovery to flash Xposed SDK only to find the phone is doing a proper reboot, even when using NDR and selecting reboot to recovery and when I hold the volume down and the Sony logo, nothing works,. I have tries using NUT's installer to add it again, although it finishes successfully the recovery isn't there, I am not bothered about flashing or wiping if I have to, but is there any other way first? Its all started when my phone won't recognise my SD Card, unless I remove it and put it back in and then on reboot its missing the card again.
Same problem
I have the same problem but do not have a computer. I was reading about it and found that after you flash a new ROM before booting it up, you have to flash recovery (especially NUTs Dual recovery) and then boot. It is weird since most ROMS have a preinstalled recovery and I do not get why we have to do this. I keep losing recovery after flashing a new ROM and will try to flash CWM. NUTs dual recovery keeps getting lost for me. I will borrow a friends laptop and get it done over the weekend.

I've never had the problem before and I have flashed this handset a few times, recovery should have went on when I flashed the pre-rooted rom as I created my own, but doesn't matter as I have already tried to put the recovery back on. I will however try another recovery.
flash recovery without PC?
Do you know anything about flashing a recovery without a PC? I have an idea but do not wanna test it without a PC at hand. What if I extract the recovery.img file and put it on my internal SD and boot the phone? Will it install the recovery? If you know of any other way please let me know
