Hello,
After restarting my P20 Pro that was out of battery, i got a very special system message (never seen before when the phone shutdown with battery emptied) telling me that there was a big issue and the screen propose me to backup status, restore, or restart system.
I choosed restart and since my launcher is out of order : no more icons, just the notification bar at the top.
The notification bar is ok. When i click on a notification on top it open the application concerned and i can use it as long as needed.
But there is no way to access to other applications because the screen is black with no icons. Accessing to the system menu crash after 20 seconds and i have to unlock the scrren each time.
I can see the launcher with icons when connecting the P20 to an external hdmi screen in EMUI desktop mode.
i can access to mostly all the applications from here.
I tried to install an alternative launcher like Nova from desktop UI but it doesnt seem to have impact, screen still black
I'm lost to find a solution to restore launcher without performing a factory reset.
(wipe cache partition has no effect)
Is there a way to reset something with adb ?
or any other suggestion
Try to open the settings and wipe data of Huawei Launcher only. Your launcher settings (and placement of icons) will be cleared.

Try to change the theme, I have no issues using go launcher. You can also remove user settings from manage apps, if you run out of ideas. Though it will realy wipe all go launcher settings.
Problem solve with a factory reset.
PS: I wasnt able to acess any options menu, i could acess only the status bar.
So today, after loading an app, my Nokia 8 decided to reboot itself. After rebooting, a few things ceased to function.
The Home button no longer worked. The recent apps button stopped working, I can pull down the notification bar however, the settings button and extending the notification bar to show notifications no longer functioned.
On top of this, Google Play stopped functioning with regards to installing software and you will notice that you cannot access the developer options anymore (as well as all your personal settings being reset!)
Was at a complete loss at what to do... I managed to install the Nova Launcher from an apk file from there accessed the short cuts to the Setting Wizard and re-ran it.
You can re-run the setting with the same email address and as soon as it's finished, everything should be working back to normal. You may need to reset a few preferences (such as keyboards etc / glance screen etc) but at least all the buttons work again.
Step instructions:
- Download Nova Launcher. If you cannot from the google play store, search for it on Chrome and download an apk version
- Install it (you may get a pop up advising you need to let apps installed from chrome, go to settings and allow it)
- Once installed, click on Open. This should launch the Nova Launcher
- Long press anywhere on the screen
- Choose Widgets.
- Look for the Activities widget and hold and place it anywhere on the screen.
- Scroll down to Setup Wizard. There's two, one that's "Setup Wizard" and the other "SetupWizard" without a space. Choose the first. There should be an option under it called ".SetupWizardUpgradeActivity". It might be slightly different for you pending the version OS you have but that's what came up for me.
- Select that to create the widget shortcut then click to open.
- This will bring you to the setup wizard and then just click Next all the way through (turn off any preferences you may have in the past)
And voila. Back to normal afterwards!
Note: You don't need to use Nova Launcher as your default launcher. You can even uninstall it if you want.
Works!
Thank you, this totally worked!
I think Skype crashing and crashing the phone caused this for me. It's getting an uninstall as a special thank you.
Cheers,
Peter
Please help! I don't see any option for setup wizard!
I have Huawei P10, newly bought and came with Nougat but then the update for Oreo was available so I updated it...
Now I don't like how the pull down notification has changed. When I swipe from the top down it opens whole notification window at once. It doesn't open firstly 1 row and then on the 2nd swipe down the whole window.
This is what I'm talking about:
streamable.com/kxbe6
Is there a way to change it like it was before?
I am having the same issue. Plus with the auto-brightness deactivated, the screen changes the brightness as her wish, and sometimes the screens turns on without getting a notification. I asked for help in this forum, you can search the thread, but the only solution that they gave me, was that i make a wipe cache and a factory reset and the problem will be gone. I did it, i even downgraded again to nougat, and then update again. Nothing didn't work, so early this week i leave the phone on a tech support, and im waiting. Try the solution for yourself and if it doesn't work, do the same, go to the tech support. (sorry for my english)
I make an update for if anyone is interested. Got the phone again from the tech support, the problem still exist, just got the update 8.0.0.365. Huawei didn't fix the problem. If anyone knows any other way to fix it, please post it.
The same happened to me as well after the july update. Pulldown bar goes up in 2 slides, but down, it opens completely from just one slide. I did have a custom theme installed which modified the collors of the icons in the pulldown menu. I guess this was affected by the update. Problem is I can no longer find the theme to reinstall and uninstall. I am hoping for a solution besides a factory reset
backup and factory reset and restore. .... manner of 1 hour. Its highly recomended to do FR (factory reset) every major update nad update form nougat to oreo is one of these.
I have no screen issues or auto brightness or self turning on of display.
For the pulldown menu. When i have no notifications and swipe down i see all 2 rows of switches and brightness bar. When i have some notifications after swipe down i see only first row of switches and the notificitaion and i have to swipe again to see full notification list. Its how its mean to work on Oreo. Get used to it or go back to nougat

I apologize, I am an idiot. I will explain:
Ever since buying the phone, I installed a weather app (not sure if I'm allowed to write the name so I'll leave it out). Point is, that particular app always had a notification on, whenever I was swiping down, so naturally, the phone only showed 1 row of icons from the pull down menu. I uninstalled it a few weeks ago because it was not working right, due to the DCMA notifications, it started to hang, become inaccessible, stuff like that.
After taking it down, I've noticed that the pull down menu was showing in full. I thought this was either due to a theme I installed before the July update, that miss-fired , during the upgrade, or the new update screwed up my pull down bar.
So, naturally, I did what you wrote, first, a Factory Data Reset. No dice, pull bar still went down fully. I thought, ok, try the hard way, so I did a full Factory Reset (Phone Off, Phone On with Power button and Volume Button pressed). Still no dice, bar was full. I did the full reset again, this time deleting the cache as well. Again, the bar was full. So, I said (insert bad word) it, I'll use it like this, even tho I did not really liked it. Restored everything from back-up, and after I've configured everything, I decided to give the weather app another try. Pull Down Bar now only shows one row of icons, just like before.
Sorry for the wall of text.
Thank you again for the advice, and for your patience.
Phone: ROG 2 tencent on 16.0632.1910.64-0 build (android 9), rooted
Sometime around 14/10/20 or a few days earlier there was a strange "mini update" pushed to my phone. I do not have system updates enabled. No reboot occured.
I cannot tell if it was a virus, a hack or some broken update.
Some of these settings were easy enough to change back to what I used, but I want to know why it happened in the first place.
I have google play updates hidden from notification bar so I definitely missed some things. The only app i saw update was gboard, but it's safe to assume others did stealthly.
I will list what I know:
gboard re-enabled itself and updated itself. It was never enabled or the default keyboard.
all systemUI tuner settings reset, all flat style bar indicator settings reset
the entire UI was changed, navigation bar virtual key r now more compact (closer to each other) (this does not appear to be a setting i can change with anything i have installed?)
about half the system settings are reset to default values, the status bar now displays download speed amongst other things
the navigation bar and status bar now both have fully transparent backgrounds in most programs, i can't recall the specifics but it never was that many previously.(cannot fix)
The status bar text no longer changes color and is permanently white, if I use a white background program like most google programs, the entire status bar is now invisible. (cannot fix)
default Messages app disabled itself and reinstalled itself, resetting all settings, meanwhile ASUS data transfer became the default SMS program. Messages app also got cloned to work profile (shelter app) without user input.
Any ideas please?
I'm thinking google IME or systemtunerUI updates broke something, or a remote hack, but I don't know. Just to be safe i disabled updates on those apps. But google play is known to sometimes not respect ur per app auto-update settings.
I don't want to have to fight my phone to get it to work.
Please, i am at a loss.
With the new update, miui global 12.5.8, the system no longer allows gestures AND third party launchers and forces default launcher to the system launcher if gesture navigation is selected. 3rd party launchers work with button navigation, and FGN. However, with 3rd party and FNG the navigation buttons persist. Is there anyway around this (i.e. 3rd party launcher with gesture navigation without navigation buttons persisting).
I have tried disabling the miui system launcher through adb, but it doesn't seem to work, launcher is still running.
Selecting the default launcher as system launcher, selecting gesture navigation and then launching 3rd party launcher and FNG gets the desired outcome, however the system launcher is still running/ selected as default (gesture for home button swaps back to system launcher - can remap home gesture to open 3rd party launcher as a work around for the home button).
Thanks,
Found a solution, but doesn't stick with power cycle:
adb shell settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1

Hey thanks mate, I try this and it looks successful, but can not keep when we reboot, any solutions for that bro, I also report issue to Xiaomi / Nova as well, is this Android 11's issue ?
Dears
I'm experiencing the same issue as OakaO with MIUI 12.5.8: cannot even set gestures if a 3-party launcher is being in use.
I've read this interesting thread https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/third-party-launcher-gestures.62948/ and tried the two solutions described there.
They works but have some side effects.
First solution:
The usage of the LADB app with the command settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1 works but has the side effect that you lose any theme status bar you may have configured: the status bar gets back to the one of the stock theme.
In addition it seems to not be resilient to reboot so after any reboot you have to enable ADB stuff and so on (for security reason, I prefer to not have them always enabled)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution)
Second solution:
the usage of the adb command adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural works too but (as stated in the thread) it has the side effect that you still see the gesture bar (which reduces also the screen size) but you totally lose the bottom gestures (even if you use Fluid Navigation Gestures app)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution too)
At the end..... I lose the game and I'm using now my 3-party launcher with 3 navigation buttons which gives me a really ugly effect especially because I use also klwp theme and the 3 buttons are really bad.
After that I wrote on MI community (here the thread https://c.mi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3943484&page=1&extra=#pid20869921 ).
I'm still waiting for a further feedback but I'm worried that this behaviour is not a bug but a clear choice or strategy from Xiaomi.
Let's see what will happen.
bye
I don't want the nav bar but the software buttons.. the problem is that they are white and autohide does not work in most apps.
any solution?
