TWRP for Pixel 5 ? - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

I was just wondering if there is anyone working on TWRP for our device. I just got rid of my 4xl and now they finally released an official TWRP for it and so I'm hopeful we might get it for our device sooner.

System Updates not working

So wonder why I have never gotten a single update pretty much since I got this phone 6 months ago. When i got it the first thing i did was unlock the bootloader and rooted it.
So I saw there was a June update of this year. Well I decided to go and look at my phone and oh look! June 1 update! yea from 2017. So when I do an update I get a "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later"
I don't have any of the update apps blocked with Titanium either. Any help and\or ideas would be great.
On my Turbo it would still get updates, but fail because of TWRP at least and i would flash stock recovery just to update then flash twrp back on.
Thanks

Twrp & Mods

Hi ! I have juste my pixel 4a 5g two days new in teampixel now.
I come from oneplus & xiaomi to pixel.
I love it but they hadn't many features on settings ex: status bar remove some icons and center clock.
I have a question do you know when they had a Twrp for it ? And if I root it (Always root my devices for mods) no do format data ? And use remove force encryption ? Only unlock BL and flash boot.img ?
I hope there will be devs who will create mods eg: face id & kernel & custom rom.
Have a good day..
TWRP is going to be awhile due to issues with Pixel devices and the A/B boot system among other things. Patience here is going to be required especially for a newer Pixel device like the 4a 5G.
You can unlock the bootloader the same as you would any Pixel device. That means reboot into the bootloader, type "fastboot flashing unlock" and follow the steps to confirm the unlock. Keep in mind this wipes your device as a factory reset would.
As far as rooting the device, use the canary builds of Magisk to achieve this. Again, the rooting steps are the same as previous pixel devices requiring you to patch the boot.img from the factory image and then flash it via fastboot.

A/B has been pretty standard for like 5 years now. I had a nexus 6p, pixel xl, pixel 2xl - all A/B all have TWRP. Even the Pixel 4 is *officially* supported by TWRP now. https://twrp.me/google/googlepixel4xl.html
I've never had to wait this long to get an *UNofficial* working version.

Considering the P4 (a phone released in September 2019) JUST got official support I guess it doesn't seem like that quick of a process to me?

the p4 got officially supported. usually there's unofficial support pretty quickly.
the other thing i was just pointing out it's not the a/b system like the previous poster said.
Yes but they had many phone with A/B on Android 11 comes recently had Twrp "Oneplus" & "Xiaomi" yes is unofficial but works.
I tthink it's because they had more community.

T-Mobile Oneplus 7 Pro Android 11 Update

The T-Mobile website is showing the update is complete and it is going out to devices. Has anyone received the update?

Wondering if anyone has taken the update and been able to keep root and TWRP.
Edit: Just getting the update now. Will let you know how it goes.
Edit 2: I was not able to keep root and TRWP, the update installs after it restarts so flashing the TWRP retention script then Magisk into inactive slot just cause the update to fail. Will have to boot TWRP then install both liked normal I hope...
Please update us. I just installed the global firmware a couple weeks ago on my t-mobile unit and haven't had great battery life so I might switch back but want to keep root

Battery life is great, not having the same issues I had with the beta/international firmware except I am still having issues with calls coming through the stereo speaker and not the phone ear speaker.
Also, I can't get TWRP to boot so I can't install TWRP and root with Magisk. I've tried the TWRP from the forum and the latest from the TWRP website.

Does that mean we need the update file? I haven't come across much info on rooting our stock t-mobile roms nor have I seen them for download

I will try some more versions of TWRP tonight hopefully. I had to stop and work. E should be able to use the normal process, just need a working TWRP.
Twrp isn't supported for oos11 on 7 series yet
I haven't seen the rom to download...but switching to inactive slot should work....for magisk...if not...search how to extract n patch boot.img with payload dumper and magisk....I did it super easy...however...while doing I decided to install magisk to inactive slot (Global) and install keep_data.apk n all went well ...so I didn't have to push the rooted boot.img externally

Same issue with the speaker here too.. this is on a virgin/untouched t-mobile 7pro
I'm on a stock phone with the calls only coming through speakerphone issue as well. Is there a known workaround?
to the guys having that speaker issues are you guys having black screen issues at 90hz and wake up issues at full resolution?
because I have those all those.

Saw this on the OnePlus forum. For those with the issue where the callers voice comes out the microphone instead of the earpiece, here is something to try: "Stop HearingAidService under Bluetooth running services in Developer options under system. I had the same issue. Hearing aid services are being turned on without Bluetooth being on." Someone on the forum tried it with success. I have gone back to 10 so I cannot test it.

Do you have to do this for every call, or does it work after doing it just once?

do you have to do this every boot or just once?...because i downgraded just like you to 10 because it was annoying and the worst is the lockscreen dpi change that made it hard to put my fingerprint or pattern...forcing me to reboot...
A few days ago I got another update. It fixed the speakerphone issue.

People do not know how to get root with the stock Tmo Rom. Took me forever to figure that out.

New with a Merlin - Want it to root and install custom recovery

Hey guys,
So, I've got a Redmi Note 9, not that I'm not happy with the stock firmware but the reason I got this phone was so I could play around a bit with other ROMs (had a replacement iPhone X and was just bored with it).
So, I'm not exactly new in Android world, all my previous phones were HTC, Samsung, Nexus, and all rooted and running custom roms.
Just so I don't feck up the process, can someone guide me to the process? I'm guessing I need to root it first, then install the custom recovery and go on from there?
Any specific advice ?
Thank you so much in advance.
Just flash the pathed vbmeta.img together the magisk patched boot.img and your device will be rooted.
I assume it's fine that in on miui 12 official & stable ?
Everything is working perfectly on miui 12 android 10 and miui 12 android 11.
Thanks, I'm going to start digging tomorrow.

Trouble installing Magisk on the November Android update

I have a Pixel 5 and today I updated from redfin-2110-rq3a.211001.001-factory-23f4cec2 to redfin-2111-sp1a.211105.004-factory-749e8f9f (yes the Aus version).
All went well until I tried to root the device using Magisk - something I've done *many* times. The trouble is that after I flashed the patched boot.img, the device would not boot - it started to for a few seconds and then went back into fastboot mode.
I've tried a few times but always the same result.
And it seems that you cannot rollback to the October release - the flash-all.sh completes OK but the subsequent boot hangs.
BTW: I'm still using the canary channel, is this still necessary?
Help.
Was that an update from A11 to A12? If so you're gonna have to jump through some hoops...
Either way, this is very likely not a Magisk issue, but caused by some new verification stuff in Android 12, so the best place for you to find info/help is going to be in your device's forum.
Upgrade was from the October version, so, to the best of my knowledge, Android 12
Still, you're likely going to find the answer in the Pixel 5 forums...
