Does anyone here use a ppc app to track their car's gas mileage, oil changes, etc? I've found a couple, but so far I'm not thrilled with either. Anyone have a favorite (free or reasonably priced) app for this?
I was looking for such an app for calculating gas mileage. Here are my observations:
AutoLog ($9.95): Great displayer of gas mileage and keeper of oil changes or other maintenance. Does not keep a history of trips. Can maintain multiple cars. Cannot put in notes with gas, but can with oil/maintenance/waypoints.
Car Buddy ($24.95): Easily the most extensive in terms of what you can add. Has a trips manager, gas mileage, maintenance, and maintains multiple cars. Has a built-in calculator for calculating gas price, miles driven, etc. Kind of clumsy, though, as requires excessive stylus input. Can put in notes and categories (personal/business).
iambic Vehicle Manager ($19.95): Overall best for fleet use. Can monitor everything and a clean interface. Not so great for fuel mileage, as requires you to do a Quick Stats to see the most basic of information.
Also, a few websites for fuel managing:
My Mile Marker
fuelfrog
MPGTune.com

I use Spritmonitor
http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/
It's not an application, but a website. You can directly point your Opera (or other PPC browser) to the site (bookmarked), or just write down the km/miles on your receipt (or as a note on PPC) and enter it once you reach a computer.. It easy enough for me and it features rich content and comparison to other vehicles. And above all, it's free of course!
You can also add favourites, like friends or other owners of the same type of car, and compete for the best mileage.
It's really the best solution.. until there's a PPC app that syncs with Spritmonitor..
While waiting this morning on something, I sketched up a tool to quickly mark spots you're at. Unlike regular GPS loggers, it just tags and saves locations (I frequently need something like this on bike tours).

Looks good. May I suggest enabling the correction features on the keyboard in the Name textbox. (Change the InputScope property)
Sure, why not.
Looks pretty handy.
Is there a way to get directions to the saved spot in bing maps?
Not sure. Trying to invoke the installed Bing Maps with a target location isn't something I thought of or know if it's possible (I figure it should be).
Added some functionality. And I figured, why not put that silly EOS 550D of mine to use, instead of capturing the emulator. Praise my girly hands.

Looks really nice and useful.
What methods are there for exporting that data? Sharing via e-mail? SMS? Would be nice if it could also be exported directly to Bing Maps (My Places) or Google Maps (Starred), if even possible. Or even if you could import locations from those services.
Also, is saving locations based on GPS only? Or can you manually input and specify the location on a map (I suppose it'd be like dragging and dropping a pin on a map and saving that location)?
-sigh- if only all Windows Phone 7 developers could do UI like you seem to be capable of doing.
I haven't thought much of exporting yet, altho I have something on my mind. I figure exporting all of it in a KML via e-mail might be an idea, but if there are a lot of photos, it'd end up in a huge package, tho.
Locations are purely GPS based right now.
Hi. This looks nice. Shame there's no trial though. Does it use Bing maps for the map images or Google maps (or another service)?
Thanks
Bing maps. I could make it use a different tile source, but I'm not sure how Google feels about it, since it's against their ToS.
Just bought this app, not sure what I'll use it for but it looks great!
The update with the prettified UI has been submitted since a few days and is in testing apparently, but nothing happened as of now. The other versions passed testing rather quickly, this is mostly an UI update only, not sure why it's stuck in limbo.
Submitted an update today, probably available in a day or two.
Added a trial mode, allowing marking up to 5 spots. Added an options dialog to change GPS behaviour in background as well as changing distance units (kinda required, since it was Meters up until now and I sold the most to the US). And pinpoints in the full map are clickable now.
Version 1.4:
- Does resolve coordinates to addresses using the Bing SOAP webservice now. Happens retroactively on existing spots.
- Ability to send your current location to someone else via SMS and E-mail. Retrieves the actual address if the GPS accuracy becomes better than 150m. Adds a Google Maps link to the message pointing to the coordinates.
- Can also send stored locations, but formats them like current location messages thanks to late night coding dizzyness.
http://social.zune.net/redirect?type=phoneApp&id=ee9c5dae-9fea-df11-9264-00237de2db9e
Version 1.5:
- Can choose now, what service to use to create map links in SMS/E-mails (Bing, Google, OSM). Note: Bing doesn't have a mobile map site. If the receiving mobile gets a Bing link and identifies as smartphone to the website, Bing will mess it up and show a search site.
- Can save photos to the pictures hub now.
- Alternative coordinate formats. DMS, UTM and MGRS (both military). North and south poles aren't covered in the military ones. Examples:
Regular/Decimal: 50.71625 - 6.01385
DMS (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds): 50°42'59"N 6°00'50"E
UTM: 32 U 289206 5622525
MGRS: 32UKB8920622525
Version 1.6 somewhen in a few weeks will limit sending adhoc locations. Currently, it's unlimited in trial.
1.6 is out. It was held up a long time with certification not pleased with the privacy policies I kept writing up, after being required one out of the blue.
Anyway:
- Distance math is fixed. It was off by half, no one apart two people seemed to have noticed.
- Option to add photos from the phone' library to locations as option in the menu roll-up.
Upcoming:
- Google and OSM image data as alternative options. (Works already)
- Custom pinpointing of a location on a map.
Now that it is warmning up and my fiance and I can go back to do walks I would like to get a app that show how far we walked. Latter how far we jogged. I know I need a GPS program. What one is good for this? Since we do not always walk on paths by streets it is hard to do using google maps.
Thanks
Endomondo, or Cardio Trainer. Cardio trainer seems to be working great for me. Accurate and has some motivating features

There's also Runkeeper, I like that one.
I've tried many of these programs for my mountain bike rides. The best I've found so far is AllSport GPS. It supports many kinds of activities and allows sharing via Facebook, Twitter and Trimble.com (the app producer). You can see street and satellite views on the device and on the website. It also tracks way better than Google Maps.
I vote for Cardiotrainer. It has a lot of features like the other guy said. Plus one I like is you can save your walks etc. on their server which means you will always have your tracks even when changing roms.
CardioTrainer fan here too. What I find sets it apart is that you can adjust the GPS quality threshold, meaning that you can force it only to use strong GPS readings and ignore weak ones. I've gotten my best most accurate tracking from this app plus the Phoenix ROM.
I also appreciate that they allow you to manually enter workouts. Sometimes I do treadmill work and I can just enter it in easily.
YMMV
Use CardioTrainer here too. It seems like they always come out with new features and add ons to help engage the idea of fitness. It hooks up with your google health account (yes really) and saves all your stats there. You can track/time run/walks and classify them accordingly. You can track other work out types as well.
My favorite feature is the calorie burn tracker you can turn on in your notification bar. I just wish I could get mine over 500/week regularly
Cardio Trainer also has a setting somewhere where I get a reminder to run or whatever..so much harder to ignore and say..nah not today

MindPush is a location based application – so you can see messages that have been posted within 1/2 mile of your current location at any given time. Users are able to leave anonymous messages, so other users can view and interact with them once they are in the same location. This interaction can happen in real-time, but users can also see past messages in their location up to 30 days. If another user is active within the 1/2 mile range, they will be shown on the user icon and Proximity map. This is to encourage users to post new messages and interact with not only their given material environment, but the people in that environment as well.
We need YOU to start leaving your anonymous messages and feedback everywhere you go! Imagine a future where you can go into any restaurant, bar, clothing store, sports venue, coffee shop, etc. and instantly get useful information from your peers using MindPush. Feedback?
Has anyone tried this out yet? I would love to receive some feedback from the XDA community!
Thanks!
I tried it.. Good idea. Drains battery though im im gonna keep it and use it to see what its like. Does it only work in my area or can i use it to communicate with people outside of my city/state?
As of right now - you can only view messages and other users that are within 150 feet of your current location (we have/are considering making the range wider though...depends on initial download numbers and feedback). The messages will change depending on where you are located and what other users have posted in the area.
As for the battery drain - we realized that having your GPS location set while the app is running - and having the app call our servers to update the location of other users and various messages could be an issue for some as far as battery goes. Once you've logged into the app, press the menu button to access the battery drain slider. From there you can set the time interval for how often the app will call the server for updates which should help improve battery drain based on your preferences.
Thanks for the feedback and support! Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions. I really want this to be an app for the people and am more than willing to listen to how people are using the app and what could make it better! The iOS version was completed today and will be submitted to Apple for approval. Once that is done, you will be able to communicate cross platform and the numbers of users in each area should improve as the user base grows.
Update coming soon
We will be releasing an update soon to widen the range to 1/2 mile. Users will be able to view other messages up to 1/2 mile and see how many users are within 1/2 mile as well. This should really increase interaction between users and provide more information about cool things going on in your area! Let me know what you think.
Thanks

I'm the developer of atmosHere (play on words of atmosphere) Weather for Android, an Android app to make weather smarter, and simpler. The app is "Card UI" based, similar to that of Google Now, and is powered first and foremost by the hyper accurate Forecast.io. By using Google's Fused location Provider, we can get your exact location and get down to the minute weather information, all while also getting data for the upcoming week! The app prioritizes information based on the current weather conditions. So if there is a weather alert for your location, that will be the first card you will see! Similar concepts are used else where, if it's raining or snowing, you will get a card for nearby traffic accident counts. This pattern is used throughout the app. This makes it extremely simple to get glance-able information about what is going on right now, and other data that applies based on the conditions. The card ui also makes it simple to fling down a little further for the upcoming week weather, chances of rain, device sensor readings (barometric pressure, temps, etc), pollen counts, UV index, astronomy information, and many more! The app is also extremely configurable, by allowing users to toggle what information they want to see, allowing them to personalize the data they get within the app!
Just recently (last night) I added a new feature that I have yet to see from any other Forecast.io powered app. Forecast.io provides TONS of information, but for the normal person it is hard to parse through all the data given and make sense of it and what it means for the weather. So i have taken the data given, and "pre-parsed" it in a sense, and turned it into a friendly, readable, format when needed. For example, forecast.io provides a summary for a given days' forecast, "Breezy starting in the afternoon, continuing until the evening." and then this is where I come in and add additional, relevant information. So if there is a high chance of rain in the forecast, I will add precipitation information, "75% chance of rain, with light rain starting at 5pm". This gives you the chance of rain, how heavy it will be (can range from very light to very heavy), and then the forecasted time of that precipitation! I also do the same for the given temperature. So you may see "High for today of 35, with a low of 25" and if it will "feel" warmer or cooler than the given temperature, it will also let you know! This makes the forecast for every day personalized and relevant, and lets you very quickly flip to a given day's forecast and know exactly what the forecast is. No need to flip through charts of data, and stare at numbers trying to make sense of them!
The app also features data from other services to aid with contextual information, such as traffic conditions, marine and ski conditions, latest earthquake information, and even a feed of National Weather Service Audio Streams! This will be built out even further going forward, allowing users to custom tailor the weather information they are shown!
The app also features radar data of all types, from precipitation, to weather alerts, and plenty more! Your Android standards such as widgets, notifications, and even extensions for the ever popular DashClock and Muzei are included! The app has already been optimized for Android Wear once it is released to the public. Google Glass has not been forgotten either, as there is a build ready to go for when Google Opens up GDK app distribution!
I have a G+ community setup that I am posting information about updates, bugs, and asking random questions for possible future updates. I will also answer any questions or I am open to just good old conversation! I am always open to suggestions of new ideas for the app. It's been extremely enjoyable thus far getting that app to where it is, and look forward to keeping that going. I also have no problem answering any emails if you prefer taking that route. The about section of the app includes all contact information you could ever need.

I have been doing weekly releases, and the app has improved tremendously over the last few weeks. We are now sitting in the top 30 in free weather app!
I have also worked on a free version, as some people have seemed hesitant to purchase without being able to really try the Card UI style out first.
So atmosHere Weather Free has been published just today!

atmosHere Weather is now being featured on Google Play!
Feel free to join the G+ Community as well to follow development, make suggestions, or report bugs! There's a current Reddit thread right now as well.
I bought this the other day for my brand new Note 4. After installing all it would do is tell me i was running an unlicensed version. Pretty odd behavior considering i bought it via the play store. Had to request a refund pretty much immediately. Shame. I liked the look of this.
