Hi everyone,
I've recently bought an usbC port replicator with HDMI output.
With my Lg G7 works fine, android detect HDMI and allows me to work with desktop mode.
But when i use Lg G8s seems doesn't detect the HDMI output.
The screen detect the connection (verified with 2 different screens), but android doesn't react.
All the other stuff of the port replicator works fine: usb, charging, sdcard reader, the only thing missing is the desktop mode and HDMI output.
Does someone have suggestion where to check in android?
Already tried to enable and disable "force desktop mode" and "enable freeform windows" in developer options, several restarts in the between.
LG G8s with OTA update, android 10, V20e-EEA-XX - QKQ1.200614.002
Thanks a lot in advance!

Please help me guys!
Some time ago i got an Samsung HDMI to USB-C adapter, which worked flawlessly and offered always 2 projection modes - mirroring and desktop. Then i did not use this adapter for some time. The phone was periodically updated with some apps from Play Store and tuned episodically for better settings.
Now after some time i decided to use HDMI adapter again and to my mine surprise it goes directly to desktop mode on TV and there is no option in notification access to change it to mirroring.
What could i do wrong with my experiments and where to dig?
Thank You in advance
Bingo, have found the culprit. Just blocked to many notifications in Android System. Removed them and everything is O.K. now
I had the Sony XAV-AX100 and everything worked great. I just switched to the AX5000 and now AA drops out all the time. It will either freeze up, or it will come up with a warning that there is no connection to USB. I have tried a different usb cable. Same problem. I am using the same phone Galaxy S8 and the same high end USB cable. I uninstalled AA from phone and re downloaded it. Same thing. It is very random. It will boot up AA just fine then go to Pandora play a song or two then drop all connections. If I unplug and wait and plug phone back in it will work for a short time then drop out again.
Anyone have any thoughts on what to try here?
I have talked to Sony chat session not much help here.
Thanks
I talked to Sony a little bit (from what I could understand) They think it is a MSC "Mass Storage Connection" connection with USB. But Android has not had a MSC connection since maybe 2015. So why would this be happening now with this firmware? Anyone have any suggestions on how to get phone to a MSC USB connection instead of MTP? Or the radio to use the standard MTP connection on every Android out there.
I got the AX5000 on Monday and have been fighting the same issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Oreo (8.0) and have tried everything from a physical perspective (cables, flash, factory resets) but no luck. When I spoke with Sony today, they tried to tell me that AA was not supported on my car (2012 Jeep Wrangler) which ignores the fact that this is an after-market upgrade. I agree that it's likely an issue with how the head unit communicates with the phone. The only place I have found to change USB settings is under the Developer Options. The available options are Charge this phone, MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol), RNDIS (USB Ethernet), Audio Source, and MIDI. I'll try each of them and resort back on the results.
Yes with talking to Sony they said that the phone USB has to be set to MSC for USB1 to work. Well you would think that they would know that has not been used on android run phone for years. I tried developer mode and setting debugging to on. and even tried different USB configurations in debugging. like Switching it to Audio Source. As soon as plug my phone in it kicks it back to MTP. This is a easy fix for Sony they have the MTP setting on the USB 2 wire. But we will see how long it takes them to do an update on this since they just did one last week. Very frustrating I have the AX5000 on my Harley. So it is not very convenient to mess with it.
Please do post if you find some kind of solution: As I am sure Sony will be awhile.
I had the same result with attempting to switch the USB mode. It switches back when the phone is plugged in. A firmware update may be our only hope.
Well not sure if I found a possible fix. I put my phone in developer mode. Then switched the USB to debugged. and used my original USB cord that came with the S8. For the limited time that I have been able to check it out it has worked. Keep in mind this is on a Motorcycle. So time to work on this is limited. The problem I have is that the original cord is 4' long and I have no where to tuck it in. I have tried several different short cords (amazon) and they all will work for a bit but AA stops randomly.
I still think it is funny When I talked to SONY they said that this radio would not work with my phone USB protocol. But I have talked to several people that say they have no problems with same phone & same radio.
Anyone know where to get a 1' USB cord that would be the same as stock Samsung S8 cord? Yes I check with US cellular. Phone carrier..
Thanks
Does anyone know if Sony has fixed this issue yet? This is really the only deck I want. The 2330 was another I was looking at but the screen is resistive.
Still an issue for me. No firmware update beyond 1.01 and no settings or application conflicts that I've found.

connection to AA should automatically set your USB to MIDI.
if it doesn't, try setting MIDI manually before connecting the cable (and double check it after connecting).
Yeah, tried that with my Galaxy S7 and it auto-switches it back.
I have it working using a Pixel 3 XL.
First, enable developer options
Settings > About phone > tap Build number 7 times
Go back to Settings, then System > Advanced > Developer Options > Default USB Configuration > Set to MIDI
Hi all
I have a question regarding the p20 pro and android auto. Whenever I connect the phone it automatically switches from file transfer to charge only in the usb setting. I've tried enabling developer options-turn on USB debugging and changing the usb settings in developer options to MTP. Nothing helps. As soon as I connect the phone, it reverts back to charge only. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Try turning on Bluetooth. Works for me.
I have a Huawei p20 pro and waiting for a car with Android Auto.
Someone told me he is able to use Android Auto on the same car with a Samsung Note 9 with no cable!
However i do not intend to change the brand. Anyone managed to do it?
The spotify opens and works with no cable but that is it all

Did you check this setting? It should set the default: Settings -> System -> Developer options -> Select USB configuration
Does it actually affect any AA functionality? I don't remember using File Transfer with AA and everything worked great.

I don't think AA supports wireless functionality right now, maybe he talks about music apps.
I asked and he says maps are working. Some mirror thing. And no root
Just got my Moto X4 and it won't connect to my car stereo via USB like it should. Bluetooth works just fine for the most part (it does blank out for a few seconds every once in a while), but I want to connect to AppRadio on my car stereo for better sound and functionality.
I have a Pioneer AVH X3800BHS stereo in my car that has an AppRadio mode that I'm trying to connect to through USB, but the phone has to be in MTP mode. I'm able to click USB settings and see the option for MTP, press that and the phone automatically talks to the car stereo for a second and launches the AppRadio app but then immediately reverts back to charging only mode.
Is there any way to force the phone to stay in MTP mode, or does anyone have any thoughts on what's wrong? I have seen that a lot of people have had issues connecting to Android Auto, so I wonder if the same issue is causing this.
Stuff I've tried:
different USB cables
USB debugging on/off (restarted phone after changing)
Uninstall/re-install AppRadio app
in developer settings- changing Select USB Configuration setting to MTP, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source (i've tried all the options just to see if would work.. it didn't)
swearing at the phone
turning Bluetooth off
resetting car stereo
turning off fingerprint login
activating car stereo as trusted device
Btw, the phone connects to my PC just fine and stays in MTP mode.
I can't think of anything else to try unless there's a way to force the phone into MTP and somehow make it stay there!
Is this just not going to work until possibly the Pi update? I've thought about rooting and trying another ROM but would prefer to keep the phone stock at least for a while.
From a 4-Port-KVM-switch I have a spare port available. So I tried to connect my M5 lite to the PC monitor, mouse and keyboard to work as usual when I am at home. Unfortunately none of the my port-replicators with USB-C port worked for that configuraton. I tried several HDMI MHD apps, where each of them told me, that the M5 lite is capable of MHD and HDMI. The monitor display at the end of the cable stays black. For testing purposes to avoid issues reasoned by the KVM switch I also connected the monitor directly to the M5 iite - no success.
Did I miss something? Is a port replicator with additional (unknown) functionality required to share the display output via HDMI cable to a TV or PC monitor? Does ist require additional drivers?
Ah ... 431 revision, still running the unpatched 8.0.0.256. Have heard, that GSI ROMs will not work on EMUI with 9.1.x.y, but will be open for messages from someone who succeeded.
Any ideas appreciated to get the hardware based solution working. I do not want to use some kind of Wifi- or BT-based casting mechanism. Tnx a lot in advance!

No idea about this problem, been using miracast to cast the screen since is a little bit more convenient. doubt this tablet will get android 9. like, it barely got 5 months left and it reaches the two year deadline from the moment it launched. and since is a global epidemic.... this tablet will only have security updates. not even a chance at android 9.
