I’ve a strange problem with the screen of my Note, I noticed this when switching off the phone in a complete dark room. The screen turns dark grey for a split second before switching off, this is when I noticed some strange black marks beneath the screen.
I made a jpeg to replicate this problem (1st attachment), along with a screen capture of the marks (2nd attachment). Can somebody please download the picture and check to see if there are any marks on their phone?
You need to be in a complete dark room for this to work, it helps if you turn the screen brightness to 100% and allow a bit of time for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
I also added roughly what the marks look like.
Many thanks
P.S. this does not affect the screen in normal use.
I have noticed that too....
Edit: forgot to mention that it does not affect usage in anyway

Why.....
SH!T, not this crap again. The Galaxy S2 has this at a greater extent, but I was LEAST EXPECTING this on the Note, especially since they JUST starting manufacturing this model. I don't even think the demand is as high as the S2. I'm having mixed thoughts now. Those marks are NOT normal.

hi...is your phone UK or EU version?
This is the biggest manufacturing defect of the season! Go to the Samsung Herculus (T-Mobile S2) Forum and you have over 500 users observing the same exact problem! Samsung is carelessly sealing the back of the AMOLED display panel, therefore you will see lines and blotches everywhere. This is absurd!

I guess it could be a problem, but to be honest with you, I don't have any interest in trying this.
Go to a completely dark room and turn the screen to 100% and look for defects? Uhh, what?
When I'm in a very dark room, I find 3% quite comfortable, thank you. (10% brightness * screenfilter (30%)

Hmmm.... so something that you can only see when you are switching the phone off in a completely dark room is "the biggest manufacturing defect of the season"???
I understand that when you drop hundreds of £s/$s/€s on something, you want it to be perfect, but something that can only be seen for a split second as you turn the phone off in very specific circumstances, scarcely warrants such a title in my opinion!
I can certainly think of worse - lightbleed on Asus Transformer, or Newtons rings/oil click on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for example, which (if present) can be seen during use.

Dave
I agree with foxmeister. Why try and find a fault when there's really no fault there!
So you've got dots on your screen when in a completely dark room, with screen set at 100%, that lasts for a second or two......so what! Don't sit and stare at your phone in the dark is the answer. Then the problem will go away.
Jeeez, some people are never satisfied or happy.

Thanks for the feedbacks, I have the EU version from amazon.de.
There is definitely a fault with either the screen or how it was put together, otherwise I'll not be able to notice it. Those marks does not show up on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, the original Tab or any my pervious mobile devices as far as I can remember.
I did note this don't affect the screen in normal use. Also the 100% brightness suggestion is to make the problem easier to spot, I normally have the screen at 5% in the dark, and we have no control over the brightness when the phone is switching off (when I noticed the marks).
I started this thread to find out what is the course of this problem and how widespread it is before deciding if I should send it back to Germany for a replacement/refund.
BTW, under EU consumer law, we have 21 days to return the device either for a refund or replacement from the seller, after that we might have to send the phone for repair.
Sounds like there is a manufacture defects with the EU version?!
Head over to the International Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile) Forums and the answers behold. Hundreds of comments stating the same exact issue. I'm just surprised how this slipped into the SAMOLED HD display. I don't recall the original Galaxy S (which also had a Pentile Matrix) having such an issue, or did it?

I have a Galaxy S II, and regularly frequent those the international forum, and I've not seen this come up as an issue (though I don't disbelieve you that it probably does somewhere). I looked in the TMo US Galaxy S II specific forum and I did find such a thread, but I was unwillingly to pour through 50+ pages to see the final outcome as it was filled with people who have the issue, don't have the issue, or have the issue but don't care.
I've not noticed this issue with either my Note or my Galaxy S II, and I'm not going to go look for it in artificial environments that I'd typically never be using my device in.

According to the OP, on the Note, this only appears for a brief moment whilst the phone is being switched off in pretty much total darkness, so my point is - does it really matter?

Dave

I was lying in bed last night and saw what you are talking about. I think. I has used my phone heavily for the last week and didn't notice anything else.
So I suspect we all have it but uhhhhh whatever.
See this link for another photo of the problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337499
The photo is taken with a small Canon camera, with ISO = 200, and a 15 seconds of exposure time.
Post removed. I started a new thread.
The Note is going back to Amazon. I was able to see the some of the black marks against black border when watching film in the dark last night with the screen brightness of 5%.
I was going to keep it before it started to affect my normal use, lets hope the replacement has less or no marks.
Ive seen no threads on this issue so I decided to make one! But I wanted to know if anyone had any! Personally I had one stuck pixel on my tab s. Yet it was really hard to see I later got it fixed by doing a stuck pixel remover video for about a couple of hours and later installed discreet blue theme. Now its not there! I own the tab s 10.5 Wifi.
So... Has anyone else got a stuck pixel or an image burnt into their screen? Let me know below! Could be useful for others buying this tablet!
I've had the Tab S 10.5 LTE since release, use at least 8 hours daily for work and haven't got any issues in terms of the screen degrading like burn in or stuck pixels, have thoroughly checked to be sure, might have just been a one time thing, generally take years for a burn in on Amoled but even then I have had other AMOLED screen devices for years without a problem
No burn ins on my unit as well , im using the 8.4 as my primary phone and gps. Im always at 1/16th brightness. I also have a 4 yr old 7.7 slate, no burn ins as well. Seems like newer amoleds are not that prone to burn ins. Just to add, im using an all black theme.
Somehow (turning brightness all the way up all the time) my friend burned in a new note 2 in about 3 months. He used his phone a LOT as well.
My Tab S (about a month old now, auto brightness below 10-20% using Velis Auto Brightness, not much used) is perfect for now. However I saw the two 10.5" samples heavily burned at the local mobile shop. Also saw two months old Note 4 heavily burned at the same mobile shop. So it seems burn-in problem with this latest amoled screens still remains.
Thank you guys for your response! Yeah turning the brightness up to 75‰ is how I got mine. That was when I first got my tablet and had it on 75% for the whole month. I want to walamrt the other day to see the samples. The screen seem imrpoved from when I got mine. I will try to use a autobrightness app
Thread should now be a discussion thread about the burned in pixels. Guess I made it look like a question. Thanks forum mods for telling me about this problem and moving the thread back!
I assume this thread is for burned-in and stuck pixel questions/discussion?
If so: I just went to a couple of local stores to test out the Tab S, with an intention to bring one home. I didn't so far -- all devices (4 in 2 different shops) had pretty severe burn-in from the demo programs that Samsung installs and runs on the devices in the store. A couple of them so much that it was actually disturbing for things like browsing plain web pages (white background); you could read the "inverted" text that had burned in.
One store anticipated the device had been on for 10 hours a day since somewhere August last year, which would make it around 10*6*40 or about 2.400 hours of use -- presumably close to max output on the display in "demo mode".
This caused me to hesitate... is this a common problem with the devices, particular to early models, or just something that happens if you run it for too high output -- or will it happen eventually to all devices? A life-time of less than 2.000 hours seems quite low to me in any case.
Also, when/if it happens, are there any ways to "reset" the screen again, or is the damage permanent?
I have a ~2 yr old S4 that does NOT have any burn-in, but I also use that much less, not at 100% brightness and usually with varying content on the screen. I guess the display technology is similar even if the Tab S is a much newer device.
I never had burn in problems in any Samsung amoled devices (since S1).
Just made sure box was sealed and auto brightness was always on.
Actually, I personally have a worst experience with LCD with light bleed and other issues.
Yeah, No problems with my 10.5" Wifi , I watch a lot of Animi and always run it fullscreen, so no black bars, also i set brightness to auto -5 when i am using it indoors.
No stuck or dead pixels, fingers crossed.
John.
@pacc @tinderbox(UK): That sounds re-assuring. Sounds like it's still safe to go ahead and acquire the device (in my case probably the 32GB WiFi 10.5" edition). Hopefully this is the general experience by most people then.
On the LCD bleeding, then yes, that can be quite annoying too!
Just be glad you did not buy the 8.4" version as that is having some problems with the display that might affect some people.

John
I have 8.4 version and the screen is in perfect condition.
You need to use one of the screen test app to check for any problems with the screen before you buy, or the time runs out for you to return the tablet for a refund.
Some people are not bothered, good for them.
John.
I'll test it out thoroughly while it can still be returned. Thanks for the heads-up on that issue as well
If you really want to find every possible quality problem with the display, view a light gray screen in the dark, using a screen test app , set the brightness to low, look for circles and clouding, as well as dead or hot pixels.

I have an S4 I bought used and have used for about a year. It is getting heavily burned in. I am questioning how long this display will last. Hopefully by the time I need to replace it the screens will be cheap

What was burned-in on your S4 , notification bar?, home screen icons? , were you using an navigator app? , how high did you have you brightness set?
Using an low brightness setting can reduce the change of screen burn-in, but if you live in an sunny country you most likely have the brightness set virtually to max to allow you to see the screen outside.
Thanks
John.

I decided to check for stuck pixels on my Tab S again. Turns out, I have 3 stuck ones now! They are really really tiny that I can even notice them. Took me a minute or so to search for them. In order to see them, you have to use a holo background and not full black ones. You would have to find an dark gray image or something like an inverted app but isn't full black which is a good thing for me I guess. The good thing is that they don't appear on bright colors (red, blue, white, etc) which I personally couldn't see it. A holo background or gray image is when I can see it the most. When I put a black image, its fully black with no stuck pixels in sight. So that could mean they still work and turn on and off fine. So I'm thinking it's just stuck when displaying colors other than black.
I've kept my brightness 1/4 bright all the time, only used it for watching videos and browsing the web mostly. It's been one year since I bought this and I personally don't mind it. This is what I've seen so far
Edit: using a screen filter app to darken the screen on an holo image made it show the most so I can see. This lowest stock brightness doesn't seem to show a lot unless you get close to the screen.

A couple of weeks ago a guy bought an demo 10.5" and it had an perfect Samsung logo and stripe burned almost across the entire center of the display, the worst i have ever see.
He was asking would burning in the inverted image reduce the burn-in, I found the exact Samsung wallpaper responsible and inverted it for him, but i never heard anymore, it really needed an new screen.

Hello!
Yesterday I bought brand new Moto X 2nd gen. Just as I turned it up for the first time I noticed some weird grain on screen. Its more visible on brighter color a like white or even green-grey color lollipop uses when notification bar is pulled down. I didn't see much people reporting this problem so I decided I will post here first. Some people were saying this is how it is on every Pentile Matrix amoled screen, but I have to disagree. Never seen any galaxy suffering for this problem before. The grain is most noticable while scrolling and its always at the same place.
Amoled is always a part of a reason why I bought this phone-never had problems before. I like everything about this phone, so I really wouldnt want this to be a deal-breaker. I still have 2 years of warranty, but I am afraid that next moto would have same problems. Can some guys verify they don't have this un-clean like grain over whole display?
Motorola Moto X 2nd gen. XT1092
Model: SM3958AN7T1
Lollipop 5.0.1 - 5.1 (updated recently, problem persists)
Help me out guys, what should I do? Go for replacement?
Thanks, H

You fixed screen?
Hello guys, my Moto X 2014 (XT1092) suffers from the same problem. I can see this grainy effect on the screen especially with white backgrounds, on the material keyboard and notification bar. What I have to do?
AMOLED just like that. White is not as white as on LCD/ IPS. It is normal
Well, a bit O-T here, but I thought I'd ask: how's the low brightness level on the phone?
Are the whites really turning blueish or other shades and how bright is it? I ask because I read one comment before where the person was saying that the display temains quite (too) bright even at the lowest setting and was saying that this is not a very good phone for night reading....
I bought (and returned a LG G2 before where it was the opposite: screen was too dark for normal use with any setting lower than 35%...)
Any input on this?
Edit: nevermind, soon after posting this I watched a video review where the guy was showing and saying that brightness can be dimmed down a lot and that it was fine for pre-bed time reading.
Brightness of my Moto X at mid level, automatic. Can still see the problem under the sunlight, with my eye near the screen.
i have the exact same problem too !! is this normall. it makes the screen look REALLY bad!!
Guys, Amaz sent me the replacement and the problem is still there.
I'm wondering whether led burning is still a problem. What is your experience on your amoled device? Are the new ones burn-free? Even after 2 years of use?
I think, it doesn't exist now.
Amoled burn-in still exists, but advancements in both the technology and production process has made it occur less often for consumers.
There are still other issues to think of other than burn-in that still exists in amoled displays today. Right now, Samsung produce the best amoled displays.

The use of a pentile matrix (Samsung amoled) for brighter display and lower power usage at the cost of image clarity. Colours are usually over saturated but can be adjusted to your liking.

Technically the iphone came out after the Note8....
Anyway
This is android.. it is possible with root to adjust. however you are risking damage to your screen and your eyes forcing the brightness any higher than it already is. personally i can not see a difference in comparison between the 2, i thought the note 8 was brighter?
Maybe take a look in display settings you can adjust colors there, or dare i say you have blue light filter enabled haha.
if not i am sorry you may have another defective device? i have not seen this issue personally though.

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 can produce up to 1,240 nits, but only for small portions of the screen area (Low Average Picture Levels) – for Full Screen Brightness the Note8 can produce up to 423 nits with Manual Brightness and 560 nits with Automatic Brightness only in High Ambient Light. For small portions of the screen area the iPhone X can produce up to 809 nits (Low Average Picture Levels). On its Home Screen the iPhone X produces an impressively bright 726 nits. This. This phone is way too bright for me. I keep my brightness at 30%, unless I'm outside. Outside, I use 50% and can see it just fine. My wife keeps hers at like 75% and it's like staring into the sun.
But I recognize that everyone is different and has different needs from their phone. Even if I could stand that brightness, I'd be afraid of burning in my screen too quickly. There is a thread around here somewhere about how some people are already experiencing burn in on their devices.

Umm... You know that Samsung makes all of the iPhone x screens, right? Anything that can be done with one can be done to the other. You might be restricted from doing things through software but if thats the case then hack your way past it.

Screen brightness is a pretty big deal for my aging eyes. I definitely noticed immediately how much brighter and easier to read the iphone x was than the note 8 (and s8) in the tmobile store I just walked into today. And the note 8 (and s8) was on full brightness. I thought maybe the display note 8 was already showing signs of wear from being a display model. I'm also not sold on the curved screens on the s8 or the note 8; extra reflection; the feeling that what you're looking at always bends on the edges, not quite being able to tap exactly where you think you're tapping at the edges, etc. Anyway, as much as I like my note 4 and will eventually consider a note 8 (when money allows), I have to admit for me (an Android enthusiast), the screen was amazing on the iphone x. That being said, I just can't use iOS over Android again anytime soon (unless someone gave me a free iphone x LOL).

Umm... You know that Samsung makes all of the iPhone x screens, right? Anything that can be done with one can be done to the other. You might be restricted from doing things through software but if thats the case then hack your way past it.

In case you haven't searched the posts, there's a way to calibrate the screen to remove yellow / red without root. It involved going into the display settings, pumping up blue and green. Then enter a dialer code and reset the red to zero. I'll see if I can find the post again but my red tint is gone and the screen seems way brighter.

Here it is
Set to adaptive in display settings ...then advanced ..... Then pump up blue and green ( for red tint ) or adjust green down for yellow. Then enter *#15987# Into the dialer and change red / etc levels back to zero.
I had a red hue and it looks great now.

this bright screen looks great but kills your battery. I'd imagine a lot of Iphone x users will be incredibly disappointed with battery life...
Nothing makes me want to even go into a store and pick one up to look at. Samsung taking the p have got it absolutely spot on this time.
