Android Studio 4.1.1: Trying to solve a problem I went to the Gradle menu right side, followed project-name | build | build. I do not now recall what was next but when I came out of it the Run menu had changed. The Select-Device option is grayed out, the Run-App choice is missing, other Run choices are presented. I need to get Run | Select-Device and Run | App back. Any ideas appreciated

Note: I decided the best approach was to uninstall Android Studio and re-install. Only takes 5 minutes. Always solves this type of problem. Well, I guess it has a secret place to keep settings, a place that persists un-install because the error simply came back
If you know of this place please let me know. Thank you, Mick

I used CCleaner and others to uninstall Android Studio and cleanup the registry and all, hoping to reinstall AS and carry on. But it is still stuck. So I expect the stuck options are within the project files. Next question, here is a pic of the project, which folders and files can I delete without losing stuff that I need? Hopefully I can delete the right one
NOTE1: use the vertical scroll bar to see the entire list
NOTE2: I am unable to compile and test my project until I get this sorted out
TIA!
Well, I found this post on Stack Overflow,
How to completely uninstall Android Studio from windows(v10)?
Quite detailed. I went thru the whole thing, being aware not to delete my project. Problem persists. So the detail is probably in my actual project. So I still need the answer to my previous post with the pic of my directory listing
I have done a full days work on this since my above post - I found a post on Stackoverflow that listed ALL of the things that need to be deleted to completely remove Android Studio. There are tens of thousands of files to be deleted from several places. .gradle is one example. I went for coffee. In addition I cleaned the registry with CCleaner, and ran a couple of other similar programs.
Then I reinstalled Android studio and no joy. It still found my project directory, automatically loaded my project, and had the same anomaly. So I need to know what files in the project directory I can delete without losing the needed ones. Otherwise next step is to save the obvious ones [java, xml, etc], delete all else, re-install Android Studio again, restart it as a new project, and hope
I'll attach two pics, one of the project directory showing all of the files/directories from which I must make keep/delete decisions. Any comments on what to delete or NOT are appreciated. Then a screen shot of the anomalous behaviour. I used red arrows to indicate two of the places of concern. Note especially that Select Device is grayed out.

Problem solved, almost as mysteriously as it started. I made some planned changes to the app and went thru the process of setting up an AVD and editing the run configuration. Then the Select Device became un-grayed, the Run menu reverted to normal, and everything worked.
How did you all help? Well, you gave me a structured place to think and prepare how to fix this, and it worked. I had to think hard so that I could present the problem properly. That has been enough. Thank you for being here

[METHOD 1]
After flashing a fresh tot back to your device, you should have factory reset the device. This will get you out of test mode.
[METHOD 2]
So you have a ton of data and don't want to factory reset. Then use this tool.
This is a screenshot of a good run..

this is reserved for my marriage proposal to you if this works
It works i've done it 100 + time's lol
Tool is live, it only works for the VS910 software. Please DO NOT attempt to use it on just any phones.
If you use this tool can you please leave feed back thanks.
Fixed! It was amazingly fast, and I am now out of test mode! I can mount usb to my computer now, and the long-press # menu is gone. Woohoo!!
wow
that was very quick...how long did u have this up your sleeves? you pretty muched saved me from getting another phone because i wire tether alot and test mode prevented me from ever connecting to the computer
I've known sense day one haha sad I know but I dont really visit the revolution forum. The whole reason I did was from the front page.
Please post with your results. There have been well over 100 downloads and it would be great if at lest 10% of you posted your results for others to see.
Any issues your having etc this way I can start seeing the success rate thanks.

Oh. MY. GOD.
It really works!!
My girlfriend's phone was always stuck in test mode even if i flash new tot.
Thank you so much!! You are my hero!
Thanks for your feedback. The more people who leave feed back the better. This way we can see if its working across all phones. I'm 100% sure it should but you never know.
No luck for me. I tried it on windows XP (with .NET framework 4 installed) and the program just crashes every time I try to run it. The microsoft "send error report" dialog appears but the application never starts up all the way.
Are there any other prerequisites other than .NET 4?
I'm an idiot and built with client profile. So install dotNet 4 Client version.
The new version is dotnet 3.5 none client and will support MS910 Esteem from MetroPCS
The only issue is the report of who needed this came from androidforums and sense i'm not a fan of them for banning me for misleading staff.. I'm not sure i'm going to post it just yet. I really only want this for xda members and might have to come up with a method that will require them to be an XDA member.
I did just try this again on windows 7 (not my computer so I'm unsure about the software on it) and it worked perfectly! I'm now out of test mode! Thanks!
Great thanks.
Mannn121, doesn't have a enough post count but was very nice to pm about his success as well. Seems like a very good success rate so far.

is the link down?
I did notice one negative side effect... either that or I've forgotten the sequence to enter that "hidden menu".
Entering ##lgservicemenu doesn't seem to work anymore after running the fix... It's not a big deal but worth mentioning...
Is there another way to access it?
I'm having a problem. After about 100 times of reconnecting the usb cord, I finally get the computer to recognize the ports in device manager and reveal which one is the revo, when I open the program, it quickly states in red that my phone isn't a revo and auto closes....any ideas?
Ok, I spend almost 100% of my day yesterday trying to get this sorted out and I'm at the point of giving up, every different problem I went through at least 2 pages of googling and tried everything I could imagine and it's been futile up to this point. I would hate to put it off but the problem has been so bad I might have too. I'll go into as much detail as possible and any help would be VERY, VERY appreciated.
Ok, first off, I had the JDK, SDK, and Eclipse properly set up. The emulator was too slow and everything crashed so I decided to download VirtualBox by Oracle, and hook it up that way via ADB and it was a complete success, I was happy and ready to spend hours learning how to code.
Then one day, as out of the blue as possible, Virtual box popped some kind of error on me, or something along the lines of that, I can't remember unfortunately. But now after trying to re install it and deleting ".virtualbox" in my users folder, it now just freezes up upon starting up the software and I haven't been able to do a thing about it. It looks like on the surface I am able to still use Eclipse, I wouldn't think otherwise because they weren't supposed to be reliant on each other.I tried connecting my android devices to them but to no avail, they detected the devices but using adb connect "Device Name" it said unable to establish a connection or something along those lines, either way no information and my googling has came up NOTHING that didn't involve their devices not being seen either so their troubleshooting was to no avail too unfortunately. I said screw it and tried hooking up a AVD device. Every blank was filled in and I had it installed but "OK" was grayed out no matter what I picked and SURPRISE, it gave me no reason.
I re installed Eclipse (a.k.a deleting the whole folder and dragging a fresh one in). I received problems like "Failed to initialize Monitor Thread: Unable to establish loopback connection" When I attempt to add the URL and I used https:// and http:// But literately just now as I'm typing this and tried it, It seemed to work but these errors still get in the way:

I reinstalled the JDK, SDK
I have firewall and antivirus disabled when attempted
I disabled Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface
I have a feeling VirturalBox F'd up a connection somewhere with it but I can't seem to find the snag.
Even in the preferences, It doesn't give me a lot to work with.
Ok so I read over the log and it mentioned something in the .android directory, I removed it and reinstalled eclipse and that removed THOSE errors but these ones now pop-up
Even on the fairly generous display of my Nexus 6, working in Tasker can be a bit tedious, especially over protracted periods of time. I like a full sized keyboard and a mouse. I like being able to develop ideas on my laptop with multiple monitors; work in multiple full featured editors; move things around to suit my whims; cut and paste text and files as the need arises.
I have an HP Elitebook running Win10. The N6 is not rooted. Currently, the display of my N6 is mirrored to a window on my laptop (which I can resize[!]). The laptop keyboard and mouse now work with my N6. From my PC I can do anything on my N6 from change settings, to cut 'n paste, to move files and to program and test Tasker in its native environment. Want to know how? It's easy. I had this set up in about 3 minutes.
This is all thanks to a Chrome extension call Vysor (by ClockworkMod).

There are a few drawbacks, most notably with a little display latency. But depending what hardware you are using, how many things you have running at once and how you've configured, your mileage will probably vary. Me? I'm happy.
Sorry about the link. I'm new to the forum. Need a few more posts before URLs are enabled. But I just thought I would add that I am working on an organization chart and a flow-control flowchart for organizing more complex Tasker projects. I need this stuff or I get lost and run down rabbit trails.
I'm a pretty visually oriented kind of guy. That is one reason that Vysor has proven to be valuable to me. I can have my word processor with the charts and development notes open, XML displayed in Notepad++, two File Explorer windows for easily transferring files, cut 'n paste available so I can grab from my lists of Profile, Tasks and Variable names and Audacity open for making quick, down and dirty notification MP3s (like voicing over a Star Trek 'incoming message' sound effect with, "Captain, you have a voice message".) OK, I'm a little geeky.

I just checked the article again. No problem. Let's try this another way. Have you looked for the Chrome extension Vysor? The article "By Jack Wallen | August 28, 2015, 4:11 AM PST" says in part:
From the Chrome browser, go to the Vysor page, click ADD TO CHROME, and then click Add (when prompted). Now, if you click the Apps button (upper left corner of the Chrome window, under the bookmark toolbar), you should see the Vysor app ready to launch.
Prepping your device
In order for this to work, you must enable USB debugging on your Android device. This is simple. First, you must enable Developer options. Here's how:
Open Settings
Locate and tap About Phone
Locate Build number
Tap Build number seven times
Tap the back button
Locate and tap the newly added Developer options
To enable USB debugging, do the following:
Open Settings
Locate and Tap Developer options
Tap to enable USB debugging
Plug your device, via USB, into the computer running Vysor. Once connected, click on the Chrome Apps button, and then click on the Vysor launcher. A new window will appear with a Find Devices button. Click that button, and your device should instantly appear
Highlight your device, and then click the Select button. On your device, you'll be prompted to accept the computers RSA fingerprint. Click OK on that window, and the Vysor mirror window should appear displaying the screen from your Android device.
Hope this helps...
Teamviewer works too to do the same job
Hi philippe734 and thanks. TeamViewer is a great piece of software. But it is a little overkill for this purpose. It is also cloud based and therefore presents certain security concerns. I didn't know if you were aware, but InfoSecurity, the online magazine, has linked TeamViewer with the ransomware, Surprise! http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/surprise-ransomware-spreading-via/
I'm no security expert, but I'm using Vysor over a USB link from within Chrome. My home network has no WiFi router and my Cloud account is pretty much a one-way proposition. I try to keep everything local except those things I upload to share or conversely, to put out of reach of anyone that might take possession of my phone (such as dashcam videos and other types of recordings).
This is the information I have gathered on KingRoot (for Windows). Please note that this is information gained by using a network monitor and the software was not reversed engineered or decompiled in any way. I am not responsible for how you use this information or any opinion you may form of this software. Lastly I am not responsible for any files downloaded or links followed from this information! Sorry, had to cover myself from slander and those who don't know what they could be getting in to
It appears to be a server side style of app. The app you install either on your phone or pc is simply the gateway to the server and the app knows how to communicate with the server. All functionality appears to be controlled server side, it should (theoretically) not matter what version of the app you are using. The Windows app for this will install the latest android version on your phone, if you do not have it installed already. It actually installs the KingRoot app but also another app named "KrHelper4Pc". This could be the stuff listed in the links and information below, I do not know for fact. The windows app is also in Chinese (I assume). However, they have an unhelpful English page that tells you how to root with the Chinese (I assume) all over it! https://kingroot.net/root-installation-via-windows-pc/
Here are some links that were found having communication:
1. http://103.7.29.26/download.sj.qq.com/qpmgr/AndroidDeviceV6.zip?mkey=58692fabc55ab7b0&f=105&c=0&p=.zip
- This is weird, it downloads a zip file but can not be opened or extracted. I know sometimes .apk files can show as .zip files, so I changed the extension to .apk and moved to my phone sdcard. Can not parse the package...no idea what this file is or how it works! You can open the zip file with wordpad and see a bunch of garbled text though.

- Leads to: http://s.pcapps.qq.com/msoft/xml/qqapp_update_20151029.xml which does not display anything, appears to be xml file. Oddly, can not right click and view source though...
Again, this is purely information I have gathered on the use of KingRoot, take it as you wish or as you interpret it. It may (or have) work but there seems to be a lot of other traffic going on, I can not really say if it is necessarily good or bad but I would at least call it "possibly suspicious". The reason I say possibly suspicious is the fact that most "hack tools" are actually not nefarious or do not have bad intentions. They are listed this way to dissuade people from using them. If it shows as a virus, most people will not install or use the program thinking they will get infected when the app is truly not a virus or malicious.
How do I know?
Well, I cant guarantee that any software or app is safe if I did not code it. Back in the day, I used to hack the old Yahoo Messenger login protocol. By doing so, I could create bot programs that could spam, send boot codes to knock them offline and even clone other users. As you can guess, Yahoo did not like this. Yahoo then worked with anti virus companies to get programs like mine listed as a virus to dissuade people from installing them. When this happened, my inbox exploded with people screaming and cussing at me. None of my software is malicious, I would not do that. I ended up releasing my source code to prove it was safe.
Anyways, long story short...for tools like these, it is actually hard to prove if they are malicious, even if a website says so.

Well, that "zip" definitely isn't a zip ... if you look at any real zip in a text editor, the first 2 characters in the header are "PK".
(I think that's where "apk" comes from ... "Android PK).
The file is clearly data that the application decrypts.
I installed the program in Sandboxie & will poke around a little when I have time.
It might be slow going since it's all in Chinese.
There was a suggestion that I was a little overly concerned by the "intrusive" nature of Kingroot ... ha! We'll see ...
Following this for sure
I'm a vintage computer collector from vcfed.org and 68kmla.org. I decided to branch into smartphones and excitedly started with the T-Mobile G1. As I worked on getting it set up, I had a very difficult time, and eventually someone pointed out to me that Google has disabled signing in to accounts from android 2 or lower devices. Some devices have a skip screen to bypass logging in. You could probably also install a rooted ROM. Unfortunately newer ROMs aren't an option for me, as I am trying to use this device as a collector, and want as close as possible to stock Android 1.0 (though if I could simply root it let me know).
Here's what I learned in my spending my entire evening working on this problem. Please bear in mind that I am incredibly stupid and before tonight knew nothing about vintage smartphones. All I have is nearly unlimited patience and unwillingness to lose.
Install firmware RC29 so that the "enable ADB debugging" hack works. With how difficult it is to use Android 1.0 in 2022, I found ADB very useful. Then I installed adb, verified that the device was connected, and started the shell in command prompt.
EDIT: here is a command reference I used to discover some old commands, as some newer ones didn't seem to work on Android 1.0: https://web.archive.org/web/2014030...com/content/android-toolbox-command-reference
From there, I was able to run "am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings" to open the settings and enable wifi. I attempted to run "am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -c android.intent.category.HOME" which I understand essentially presses the home button, and ADB informed me "Warning: Activity not started, its current task has been brought to the front", I'm guessing because the process "Setup Wizard" was in the way. So I ran "pm -l" to list the existing processes I could attempt to run, and found the Launcher, and ran "am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.launcher/.Launcher" to try to force it to run the launcher, and to my surprise, it did and I got away from the horrid corpse of the Setup Wizard!

I need to get some food and do other stuff tonight, so I'll leave it be. I suppose because all I did was force start the Launcher, the home button doesn't work, and I can't swipe down the notification area or view notifications at all. I can't find a way in ADB, at least not without root? to kill com.android.setupwizard, but even if I did, it might prevent the normal loading of the phone, like is the case right now. So if anyone has any ideas on how I could advance from here, or get it to at least boot to the launcher or lock screen instead of setupwizard, please let me know!

I activated my G1 running Android 1.0 just fine last week. You could've logged into the device with a generated app password If you'd allowed "less secure apps" on your Google account.
How does that work? I tried logging in with my email and password just now, and it said "username and password don't match", when they both definitely were accurate.
I turned on two factor authentication and generated a temporary password to use with my email, but I tried over and over and without even spending time to think about it the phone says "Your username and password do not match. Please try again".
Weired. It worked for me... Maybe try to turn 2-step verification off, and then manually allow "Less Secure apps". After that turn 2-step verification on again and generate an (other) app password. This is what I've done and it worked for my G1 last week. I didn't use hyphens as far as I remember.
Alright, lets see. I did turn less secure app access on. I didn't use hyphens, just ran the 16 digit code together...
Yeah, still no dice! disabled 2fa, disabled less secure apps, reenabled less secure apps, reenabled 2FA, generated a new password, restarted the phone, tried the password... same result
I just erased my G1 to make sure that this method still works. The first password I generated didn't work for some reason but I generated a second password and that one worked on the first try.
Edit: Maybe try and create a new Google account this is weirddd
Huh. I just made a new Google account and it worked. I enabled less secure app access, enabled 2FA (to my own phone), then generated a new one time use code, and it worked. I guess that's the solution, because I really have no use for signing in to my real account on such an old device! Thanks!
Glad I could help! Doesn't really matter what account you use as nothing really works on this phone no matter what Android version you're running lmao.
In case you ever wanna get some apps on that thing there are literally like two APKs that I managed to sideload onto Android 1.0 using the SDK Platform Tools. Many more apps work on Android 1.6, thought.
Hmm, good to know... What two apks were you able to get on? I suppose you can't simply just open them in a file manager, lol. For this particular device I don't want to run a newer version, but I would be curious what I can run on 1.0!
Yeah, unfortunately there's no file manager.
https://www.online-tech-tips.com/sm...ps-on-your-android-device-from-your-computer/ <–– I use this method to sideload apps. It's all straightforward but I'm on a Mac so our experiences may vary.
The first working app I've found is tub thumper 0.33 (first link up top will take you to the correct site). It's a simple app that lets you play the drums. The other app was a rubbish file manager that kept on crashing so I've got rid of it shortly after and I can't remember its name.
Well, the method outlined in that article is very, very simple, after setting up the computer to talk to the phone, and the phone to receive communications from the computer, the command is literally "install [app file]" within ADB and would be the same on a mac or anywhere. I kind of wish I could use that method to uninstall root apps, but I'm sure I can't.
Here are some ROMs downloads that are still up and running. You'll find stock RC29 there, too.
