Hi!
One question, any one know if it's possible to reduce the black circle arround the punch hole front camera, and only black it out when you are using the front camera?? It will be great to have a smallest hole! I don't knw why those pixels must be blacked out all the time, if i'm not using the front camera...
What do you mean? The black circle around the hole punch is completely physical and the software cutout only kicks in when the front camera is in use (you can clearly see it when in an app with a non black status bar such as snapchat for example).
if you choice punch hole cut in developer options the circle arround te camera is not centred well, so it may be becose are blacked pixels no?
Finaly! They did it!

But what does that gain, exactly?
Not like there's pixels there to use in any way, so I must be missing the point?

I don't think that's correct. I can clearly see additional black padding being added to the cut out when the screen is turned on. Once off, you can see the physical size of the camera hole is a few pixels smaller in diameter.

The actual physical camera hole is a lot smaller than your phone would have you believe, there's padding in the form of black pixels to make the hole seem bigger on screen.
This guy wants to remove the black padding so the camera cutout shown on screen looks even smaller than it is.

LMAO, this doesn't reduce the black area around the camera, it expands it to take up the entire status bar!

Have you found any way to solve this? I had a note 10 lite and the black ring would only appear when the camera was in use but now I got a S21 FE and the same black ring stays there all the time. I find it kinda annoying...

Anyone's front facing camera seem like it's out of perfect alignment or is this normal? It's not just a shadow I'm sure if it. http://imgur.com/oYVflP2
Mine is perfectly aligned, so I guess it is not normal. I suppose the front camera does work, and it is only a design issue.

Does it work?
As long as the lens isn't covered, it should be 100% functional. it's held by sticky tape, if it really bothers you, you can unclip the back and move it into alignment. But if its functional and lens isn't blocked, I wouldn't worry about it.
Mine looks similar to yours. Doesn't affect the pictures, so I don't care.
It works perfectly. Just aesthetically it bothers me.

Jesus, they really like their double sided sticky tape over there at LG... Isn't the vibrator held with sticky tape too?
Actually mine is a little like yours too. Guessing its "normal"? Unless im looking for it I dont see it.
Mine isnt completely center, so i'm chalking this one up to normal/within spec.
Perfectly centered here and I'm ocd

Not centered on mine. Damn you for pointing it out to be.
Does anyone else find the angle of the camera to be a bit odd? When looking at it, in Portrait mode, like for a Hangout .. The angle towards you seems to be slightly "off" - anyone else?

are u really trying to find small things to complain about this phone and post it on here?
Mines a tiny bit off like yours but photos come out fine so I don't care. Not going to replace something that's a non-issue for a potential real issue.

I don't complain much, but I'm with you on this one... Sadly, its just something I've come to expect on smartphones now days. I never understood why everybody puts the front facing camera off-center. WHY put it on the right or left side of the phone (when holding in portrait). Placing the camera off center like that makes using the front cam for video chats annoying, because when our holding the phone in perfect alignment to see the screen, the camera isn't center on you, so you have to move the phone so that the camera will be center on you and then the screen is not. Why can't they just place the camera at the top center of the device, above or below the speaker? Or at least a lot closer to center.

I'm sorry but I just don't see it. Because of the distance and degree of movement required (if any at all) it's really NOT an issue if the camera is off-set and not in the center of the phone.
Case in point, I just tried it. When looking straight at the headset grill and point that towards me, I'm dead center of the screen. The camera itself already takes into the account of the left offset in portrait mode.
Did you try it?
Most if not all who test this right now on the phone will see they are well centered when viewing the screen straight on...
That's why a lot of phones still off-set the camera to right or the left because it's a NON ISSUE

Haven't tried it on the Nexus 5 yet (it's "Out For Delivery" so it should be delivered any moment now), but on my HTC One if I did exactly as you described by holding the phone directly in front of my face looking straight at the headset grill, my face was not centered on the screen image. I had to line my face up perfectly center with the camera lens for it to show my face centered on the screen. This was with the phone held in one hand at a comfortable distance for video chat.
Mine is off center as well. First thing I noticed when I got the phone. It seems to be working fine so I won't RMA it but it does bug the crap out of me when I look at it.
Looks center to me

mine is off center too- to the bottom right. doesn't effect pictures.
So I have this pretty ridiculous problem with the camera flash. It simply ruins pictures if used, which is why I've taken all my pictures so far without it, increasing exposure if needed (with various results).
I've attached a picture I just took with Superior Auto mode and flash enabled (Auto mode aswell).
As you can see, there is a clear bright gradient at the bottom of the picture which is impossible to get rid of.
What is this and is it really a buggy flash issue or can it be fixed on my own?
I have the protective screen applied to both sides of the phone, could that be causing this?

there is special protector for camera lens that is very tiny u should apply one of them
if u just use a screen protector that cover all around the camera it may cause the reflect and then ths kindda img
after that play with setting; zoom, brightness and etc
i never had problem with XZ camera
also search for another threads about XZ camera that will be useful
do this;
9MP
HDR on
Brightness 0
Focus mode Multi auto-focus
White Balance auto
metering Center/Average

I received the plastic protectors with the phone, but I didn't see anything other than the two sheets for both sides of the screen. Isn't it supposed to come bundled with those?

That because your back glass is not fit properly either cause by overhearing or something.
To confirm this, try give a little pressure near the camera as you will see the different.

Oh well, removed it altogether and it's ok now. Don't really need it because the phone is in a flip case like this (just black): images.mobilefun co uk/graphics/productgalleries/38122/muvit-slim-leather-style-flip-case-for-sony-xperia-z-white-p38122-a.jpg
It really sucks that something as minor as 1/10th of a millimeter offset can ruin pictures so easily.
Hi
I just booted my Galaxy Note 5 SM-9208(Made in China).
However, I am seeing something that I feel is not normal. The wallpapers look like as if they have been spray painted(need to look a bit closer). This is some sort of graininess or pixelation over the screen.
Is it due to Pen Tile Effect which is natural for an AMOLED display? Or it is my eyes? I had Galaxy S6 for 2 months but this thing was not visible on S6. Even if it is Pen Tile effect it should not be visible at QHD resolution in my view.
It is most prominent over grey backgrounds. Here are my snaps:-
and zoomed
Thanks for your time.

Are you referring to the oblique lines going from bottom left to top right, and I think that's the same as the dark checkered lines at the close up shot? I don't know if that's the screen itself, or something produced by the camera. I don't see such on my screen.

Yup. The lines will come up once you zoom your camera with max brightness.
But to bare eyes, these might appear as spray painted sort wall paper. Even a white background appears as grainy and pixelated.
Am I the only one who Actually LIKES the Hole Punch concept? xD
And when I say like I don't mean "tolerate" or "find it ok". What I mean is "I'd rather have a Phone with a hole punch camera than a bezel-less full screen display!"
One of the reasons I like the Hole Punch concept is because it's look like some kind of "Logo". Giving the phone personality, like TV logos, the CNN or FOX logo always in a corner, reminding you where you are.
IMO full screen display phones lack personality. Even phones with top and chin bezels have more character, (except the notch. The notch looks awful), than a full screen display.
So I was wondering, what you guys think about that? Think about it? Would you rather have a phone which is only a screen like a mirror, or something on the display to remind you what the phone actually is?
PS: I don't have an S10, waiting for the Note 10.
I think the punch hole is different makes the phone stand out! people will actually look at it and say oh he/she has the new galaxy that's one sexy phone ?... Apple sheep's ?? will be jealous because they are stuck with a horrible notch, I'm glad Samsung thought outside the box because the s9 was a flop I regret even purchasing it ?... Can't wait to hold the s10 in my hand ... hopefully mine ships this week ?
I prefer it to a fat bezel.
I'll have to get used to it but may take some time with cropped full screen video.
The Infinity O display was the selling point for me. If they would have went with the notch I would have purchased the Note 9 and waited for the S12 series.
I like the fact you can have it on or off based on the app. In normal modes it does not bother me but for games or vid I do not like it but I like I can hid it. For those apps.
Coming from a 3XL it's a welcome change. Can't wait till I have the 10+ in hand.
It looks ok and kind of stream lined.
I think it would be cool to put the camera on the corner. Corners are already rounded so it wouldn't be a huge difference.
I'm good with it.
I like the Hole Punch concept also and I also have the Oneplus 6t with the teardrop camera. I prefer the look of the S10 front camera position. Doesn't see as obtrusive as the OP 6t. Plus able to integrate it into my home screen.

I only use black wallpapers so I don't anticipate any problems.
I wish it was on the far left side so I wouldn't get finger prints over the camera. My fingers hardly ever go to the top left, but top right is how i bring the notification bar down, and most app Settings button is in the top right. I imagine there are design reasons why they didn't put it on the left though.
It's a lot better the hole punch than an iPhone notch!!!!
If you look at this disassembly video you can see that the actual hole is pretty small but the dead space around the cutout is pretty large. Did samsung maybe turn off more pixels than necessary around the cutout?

From what I've seen the light animation is on the outside of the cutout. And even if it was inside it makes no sense to enlarge the hole, that animation is using pixels its not an actual led light.

Yeah. It's the internet way of doing things.
In all seriousness, I wish people wouldn't do it. It makes finding information on the internet so much more difficult.
