Bought the case with the s pen included. Never had a note series so never used one.
Fantastic bit of kit. It does make a big phone a good cm wider though.
Any one got some tips on usage?
I've had a Note off and on for years and now have the S21U with the S-Pen case too. What I've used the S-Pen for mostly are two things:
1: I use Samsung Notes to write myself quick notes and diagrams. For instance, if I have to build something at home I might write up notes on what building materials I need, etc. This can be easier than trying to use the on-screen keyboard to write up technical notes. And it allows for crummy illustrations.
2. I have DuoLingo and I am using it to very slowly learn Russian. As you may realize, Russian does not use the exact same letters as English. So, I find it helpful to practice writing in Cyrillic by setting up a handwritten keyboard and writing my Russian responses with the S-Pen.
As a third bonus usage: sometimes it's a bit of a calming thing to use the PENUP app and basically do paint by numbers. Of course, you can also draw whatever you want, not just filling in the shapes. So, it can be fun to take a peaceful woodland scene with deer and draw bows and arrows and guns and make the scene a bit more... graphic.
Will explore those options
Used note for quite a a bit (I do miss the Spen).
I used it for correcting, for example if I had to correct a paper, I would do it from the phone, or sign documents, or very precise image editing on the phone, or video editing. It's quite a useful tool, In the note I could use it as a remote for powerpoint, or remote to take pictures.

Firstly, may I say this is an excellent forum and a mine of useful information. I've had my Wizard (O2 XDA Mini S) for a couple of weeks and have found all sorts of useful stuff on here for it, so thank you very much.
I do have one gripe about the Wizard compared to my last phone, a Sony Ericsson P910i. The T9 phonepad text entry program is a bit pants. It's partly because it uses the screen rather than dedicated buttons, but mainly because some of the features in most T9 phones aren't there (or maybe I just can't find them).
For example, I want to type "pet.". I begin by typing 738, which comes up initially as "set". I scroll across to "pet" and then type 1 for ".". However, the text jumps back to "set." instead of "pet.". This, frankly, is a pain in the ass.
So, in short, are there updated phonepads out there that are more intuative than the standard one? I've searched on this forum, but have only seen different skins, which only change the look, not the functionality.
Many thanks in advance for any advice, and once again, well done on such an informative forum.
Funny you should mention this. I ran across this earlier today...(I had alot of time to play around here today)
Check this out. http://free.tengo.net/ I have not installed it myself, but check out the demo, sounds pretty cool and might help you in your quest.
If you do install it please post your results so we all can evaluate.
I had actually downloaded that already. It's quite good, but it's for use with the stylus and doesn't work with one hand (the buttons are too small).
Give it a go if you write a lot with the stylus, but it's not what I'm looking for. Thanks anyway.
Name: Road Rage
This is my first App for Windows Phone 7 (or any system actually). It is a simple to use program to tell those other drivers what you think! This small and quick loading program presents you with 9 words to display on your screen in big bold letters. Sayings included:
Wait!
Move!
Jerk!
Idiot!
Blinker!
Faster!
Slower!
My Bad!
Sorry!
The other advantage is they all have a 'mirror' mode, so other drivers can read the messages in their rear view mirrors! This was harder to do then just write the characters of the message backwards!
Takes advantage of the users selected theme as well. It is also very small and takes up little storage space. Screenshots of main screen and one of the mirror messages is attached below.
*download*
It is available for free, ad supported, on the Windows Phone 7 Market Place. Either search for 'Road Rage' on the Marketplace or click the following link (should launch Zune software): Get 'Road Rage'
*download*
I originally had a few more harsh words in the program, but it was rejected by Microsoft for excessive use of adult language. It took several tries to get it approved. I originally had the words "ASS" and "****er" and was rejected, so I tried to go all Battlestar Galactica and substitute "Fracker!", but it was still rejected. So I then removed them and went with "Jerk!" and "Idiot!". I also predict that this program will be emulated/copied onto the iPhone and Android system by somebody else fairly soon, but I did it first!
If there is enough demand I will update the program to allow users to create their own messages and save them to the menu for quick easy selection, to by-pass Microsofts explicit language policy.
*WARNING* Operating a portable electronic device while driving is dangerous and is probably illegal in your area, and probably pretty stupid too. Use at your own risk!
Nice app but my road rage includes much harsher words and phrases 0
Hmm... Have you ever tried a finger? Much more effective and no ads at all LOL
P.S. BTW, do you really think that someone is able to see a handset's screen at the rear-view mirror??? ;-/

Yes, they are, we tested it. That is why the messages are short, so they can take the full screen. The text will be larger then US license plate lettering on any screen bigger then 3.5 inches. And it has more contrast then most license plate color combination's, so it should be no problem at all for most people and a decent distance away.
maybe you can made a small area where we can type a word(short to respect te full screen)
You must make an Android version
What if you have tinted windows ? Also, holding UP the phone like that while driving is kind of dangerous. The effort versus affect isn't worth the trouble. Try that in parts of California and you'll be wearing your WP7 up your arse, get shot at, or laughed at such a feeble minded display of cowardice. Better to be a defensive driver to avoid an accident.
I don't see anything that comes in handy! Nice effort mate but i still prefer my mouth and my finger.. it's much faster than Unlock your phone, open app and show it to the driver!
still, niceeee XD
I would pay a dollar to show my own text in this program
What are the main uses, for your s-pen please.?
Opposed to alot of people here I barely use it.
It's too small to hold in a comfortable way for me, even though I don't have big hands or anything.
Also it starts turning around and slipping away so it's hard to find the button sometimes.
It might just be me being clumsy though..
I've tried it a couple of times, mostly for Swype when typing, making screenshots, drawing (S-Memo) and editting pictures.
i tried to use s-pen to take notes in meetings but it didnt work well. now i actually dont use s-pen. do some photo editing for just using s-pen thats all
Mine works as a...part of back cover. I dont really use it - sometimes for run, and sometimes to mark something on a picture.
I use it for taking notes and annotations on pdf files..really great...i dont have problems with it at all. I also use it along with graffiti pro as an input method. Kind of reminds me of the good old days of my palm device.

How do you mean you mean you can use it to replace the keyboard, and use it, with for instance go sms or handcent?

You can use it to write sms or emails - no problems there. You can either use it to tap keyboard keys, or use handwriting recognition which works really well. Also it's great for some games, editing photos etc.
I've only had my Note for a week, so my experience is only based on that...
I use the S Pen a lot more than I thought I would.
I use it for taking notes in FreeNote. I use the Handwriting (Freehand) mode as I find that suits me best. It took me a few days to decide which mode I liked best.
I don't use it for any text input - I find the handwriting recognition too hit and miss for it to be efficient, so I use Swype for all of my text input. I have been using Swype for almost 2 years on my Galaxy S, so maybe just a creature of habit...
I do often use the stylus for Swype if I happen to have it in my hand. It is a bit quicker and more accurate than using my finger, but only a little - the Swype keys are so big on the Note screen anyway
If I was going to use the SPen for handwriting to text conversion, then I would probably buy WritePad. You choose it as your input method instead of the Samsung keyboard. I tried it out when I was deciding what note taking app to use, and the recognition smarts in that were way better than the Samsung keyboard.
I also use the S Pen for some apps that require finer levels of precision than I can easily get with my finger.
I use some music and audio apps where I want to select regions of a wav file, or a timeline, and it is a lot easier and more accurate with the SPen.
And I use it to play Draw Something
HTH,
Rich
I use it mainly for notes and emails and so.e sms. Just depends where I am at the time. If Im at my desk I find it quite nice to pull out a pen and write away......

The S-Pen is designed for right-handed people and thus if I draw the characters from right-to-left as us southpaws usually do it fails to recognize them. If I draw them from left-to-right it does recognize them, but then my writing speed drops like a dead fly. As such it is useless for writing anything :/

Go into Settings>Pen Settings
Change it from right handed to left handed.
Or is that just for the screen calibration rather than handwriting recognition?
I use my s pen every day man!
Like a toothpick ofcause.

That doesn't change how the handwriting API handles the pen, it only changes the offset. As such it doesn't make the thing any better. I did send mail to Samsung about it, doesn't look like it they care.
Agree. I am also left handed. So I use it to scratch my ear.
I don't really use mine at all except on occasions when I am bored. Although it has sometimes helped with picking a particular narrow cell in a spreadsheet. I used to like Windows Tablet PCs their handwriting recognition was very good. If the note supported real time recognition I might use it more. But ultimately it's all about the screen size for me with the note.
I've found it makes crossword and sudoku puzzles more like the real newspaper versions! I take a screenshot of the puzzle grid from the relevant website, open it in photo editor and draw the letters/numbers directly onto the blanks.

Its great for drawing with Smemo. I doodle alot and dont have to pull out a tablet or paper and pencil.

i use it to keep from getting my screen dirty. i drag around swype as if it were my finger.
OK guys, I know this is really off topic but I can't help myself on this one. This is way too cool to keep to myself!
NOTE: For all you guys that know about Windows Speech Recognition, please skip this post. I was totally amazed to find that Windows Speech Recognition in on par or better than Dragon Naturally Speaking software. Since it was made by Microsoft to work with Windows, it has an edge over any other software that runs on Windows, much like Microsoft Office has. Microsoft pulled out all the stops on this software and didn't skimp on anything.
I am actually dictating everything you say with Windows 7 speech recognition enabled. I don't have to type anything at all and can simply tell the computer where I would like to appear in this document. I can also navigate all over windows and control things, like opening a program, using the menus, inserting pictures, etc.. I'm having pain in my fingertips, it actually is painful for me to type. My Dr. says it is a pinched nerve. You all know how much I like to post really big messages. But when you are experiencing pain in your fingers like I am, then I need a different way to type. I was using online be taken in chrome browser, but that was awkward, this speech recognition was not very good, was very simple, and then I would have to copy and paste anyway.
I was really looking for something better such as dragon naturally speaking software, but that cost money and I really don't have money at this time. So what the hack, I decided to search pool for "free windows dictation software" and I found the best link you could ever find. This one:
Turn on dictation for all programs
This link will show you how to enable can use speech recognition in windows 7. I was utterly blown away when I tried this myself. Not only does Windows 7 have accurate dictation software, it can also control the entire computer! I just finished a tutorial and I got a LOT out of it, but this dictation can do everything and it really works. So I am going to practice with this for the next few days and get better at it. Dictation is a lot faster than typing if you are not good at typing or have a painful condition. I am not kidding, this is the same thing you get with pain software like they were with Dragon Naturally Speaking. See for yourself! Good night my friends!
P.S. When you enable the speech recognition there is a tutorial that you can't take. You need about 15 minutes to do this, and you will speak your way through it. The tutorial is very powerful and is going to show you more things than you could possibly remember. But that is all right, the tutorial will also show you, how to control your computer with only a microphone and by telling you what to do . And how to pull up some fast help and a command list for reference. So by all means, please take the time and do the tutorial at least once.
The spelling mistakes have really sold it to me. Where do I sign?
So what's your position at Microsoft OP? ??

First of all, please excuse my english.
This is the thing, Im working on two small projects.
The first one, a small retro pinball machine with a RPI3.
I need, since some games have a button that works like if you were shaking a real machine, to add this functionality.
I thought on adding some sort of sensor that activates this button input on the game.
But, I don’t know which should I use or how to implement this. No coding experience.
Also, maybe asking much, as cheap as possible for both cases.
The second one, a fightstick to play exclusively Street Fighter 3: Third Strike on PC, online on Fightcade.
And I want that, when you perform a Super Art, the fightstick to vibrate.
I have two rumble small motors that I tooked from an old joystick.
I need them to work under some of the following conditions:
If a specific set of inputs are recognized (being qcf qcf XP/XK, qcb qcb XP/XK, X standing for the three kinds of punch/kick -light, medium or heavy-; maybe later Ill add others but, for a starting point, some basic moves), or somehow interacting with the PC emulator Final Burn Alpha under Fightcade. Also I need to set an X amount of time to them to start/stop.
The stick would be connected to the PC but I thought on using a RP Zero to implement the idea.
So, would you kindly help me out?
