I've gotten my device into a bootloop, and since I've never dealt with this before, I used Sony's flashtool and managed to recover from it by a single flash.
However, I now have Android 8 and not Android 10.
I thought about using flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/index.php) to upgrade back to Android 10 (With the firmware I downloaded with XperiFirm) but flashtool does not recognize my device (for some strange reason, the XZ2 compact is not on the list). On a Youtube video (
) I saw it is on the list.
Is there any other way, or maybe can I somehow get flashtool to recognize the XZ2 compact?
Thanks.

Morning all,
First time poster here, I'll try to make this as concise as possible.
Short / TLDR Question: My Sony Xperia Z handset isn't able to install the 10.31.a.2.67 patch either via WiFi or the Sony Companion. Any ideas appreciated.
Longer Version I've recently picked up Sony Xperia Z to replace an older one that I'd damaged in stag do celebrations. Research indicated it would be cheaper to get a new one rather than spring for repairs. The OS version on the replacement is 4.1.2 with build number 10.1.a.1.350. It's a pre-owned one and looks like it's had a soft reset from the settings menu. I've run through and installed the stuff I need, configured it preferred but the last thing I can't do is to install the patch. I'm led to believe that the phone has been developed against as
1 - Plugging it into a desktop via the USB led it to enter debugging mode
2 - There is a root viewer application on the handset
3 - Developer options were turned on
I've tried to get the patch installed a number of times but to no avail. It'll download something (as shown via the GUI) but upon restart all I see is the Xperia logo, a successful boot and then the error message to state it won't install. I don't have access to any log files or error messages to let me take this further.
Because of the above, I'm thinking that a previous developer has possibly something to stop any further patches installing? The fixes I've tried this far: -
1 - Updating the patch from cable doesn't work. The Sony Companion can't detect the phone when connected via the USB
2 - Checking that the default applications are installed.
As such, I'm not sure where to turn next. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Update: I work as an IT professional and as such I'm comfortable with devices and operating systems. I'm not used to development or the sort of development that's involved with android devices.

download firmware from here
download flashtool from here
flash the firmware using flashtool
Thanks for the links. I'm assuming the flash tool has instructions? I've not flashed a handset before.

Hi
I am running stock 14.5.A.0.270, rooted and bootloader unlocked. Sony Xperia Z1
My camera app opens up, the camera button on the side of the phone even works. You push the capture area and front camera freezes and normal camera just shows me two buttons and won't do anything.
Please help I do not know what to do. There were a few other threads with a similar problem but I haven't found the resolution yet. Is it because bootloader is unlocked, I have read that I should restore the ta partition and relock my bootloader but I thought I will try here first.
I thought it would be fun rooting and flashing phones but so far just a big timewasting headache. I was on CM12.1 before , nightlies they were good but then it wouldn't recognise my sim card.
RR I tried but I got stuck on the bootloop.
Now I am back on a stock and my camera doesn't work
Help me please, I want to learn more
Many thanks for your time

Sorry I'm a bit late it seems but i had the exact same problem, camera wont focus and take pictures, video did still work depending on firmware but unfocused. Chances are your asking here because you lost your TA partition and DRM keys, which is most likely the cause
Solution:
make sure your phones bootloader is UNLOCKED
1. Grab flashtool
2. open Xperifirm via flashtool
3. look for 14.3.A.0.757 firmware (for journalists and media) (MUST be downloaded via xperifirm)
3. Download and unpack automatically, let flashtool do its thing til its ready
4. Relock your bootloader, DO NOT start your phone or touch your phone, keep it in flashmode
5. flash the firmware you just downloaded (14.3.A.0.757)
6. start your phone, camera SHOULD be working
7. Unlock bootloader and Flash any .ftf you like, tick EXCLUDE in the box that says .TA when you flash / if its available
8. Enjoy
Hi all, yesterday I flashed .101 using Flashtool (from .222) but the Flashtool binaries were corrupted and something went wrong and got bootloop. Today I used a different PC and at least it has been possible to install a custom ROM (.222) but the network is not working now. The PIN is requested but sometimes it fails and sometimes it just accept the PIN but there is no network. WiFi works fine. I have used this Xperia for more than a year and working well. My device is C6603 bootloader locked.
Thank you!

First of all, you can't flash a custom FW without unlocking the bootloader. If you so choose to unlock it, make sure you backup TA partition - it's used for DRM storage which is used for advanced camera functions (like noise canceling in pics, bravia engine and other sony stuff). Second just flash a proper FW with flashtool, wipe everything and see if it works.

Yes, you can flash a custom ROM based on stock with locked bootloader. It's what I have done successfully dozens of times, but my problem is as described in the OP, now I have a 5.1 android installation running well except the network data that doesn't work at all.

You could try to use sony pc companion to repair your phone. Sometimes, when it comes to corrupted data, flashtool won't do much good - it's something related to the TA partition that pc companion is good at fixing (I had some bootloops caused by bad root and flashtool couldn't help). You could try it and see if it works and if it does, use flashtool after to flash the rootable 5.02 and continue with the root.

OK, I just did it and didn't work, but this thing happened: Just after repair (using PC Companion) it booted and the text was chinese! I'm spanish, my PC language is spanish, my previous smartphone language was spanish... I don't know what is happening here but I thing this chinese thing is related to the SIM problem.

Somehow related but it isn't uncommon. I had an Xperia ZR bought from an official local retailer and when I opened the box I had a weird charger and first boot was in chinese. Sometimes they bring phones made for hong kong or signapore and sell them on european markets. 5.11 update might have different api s for the sim card, so different regions might not be compatible. This is only a speculation. Pc companion flashes the latest FW acording to your phone boot version, ets and customization. Imma PM you for more details.
Hi, I have this issue when using screen mirroring with my car, it says your device does not support dhcp, I can only mirror desktop setup and music, while I need the map app to be mirrored(someone says it'll be interuppted when you release the handbrake which is sad). It seems like I have to root my xz2 and modify some system config files to disable this dhcp checking, I'm not so sure.
I have rooted my Xperia XA, so I know how to unlock bl and flash boot.img/TWRP and system image which is downloaded by xperia firm, but I'm stuck this time.
1 "OEM unlocking" button is greyed, I can't figure out what's wrong. (but system config shows bl unlock allowed: yes)
2 Try to flash Hongkong firmwell(oreo) without bl unlocked using flashtool, failed, nothing happend in flash mode, I'm sure the driver is good and flashtool is up to date.
3 I didn't try Newflasher yet, I'm not sure if the firmwell downloaded by xperia firm will work.
4 I don't have the twrp and boot.img?
When the phone is connected to my computer, flashtool displays:
23/022/2018 21:22:35 - INFO - Phone in recovery mode
23/022/2018 21:22:35 - INFO - Root Access Allowed
which is very wierd, cause my phone is not rooted yet.

Use xperfirm and newflasher to downgrade to Oreo.
Unlock with Sony website instructions and fastboot v28.
Use xperfirm and newflasher to upgrade to Pie.
Follow the instructions in the TWRP thread.
Hdcp should work with a locked device.
Raise a case with Sony support?
You could unlock and disable Hdcp check but that is working around the real problem that it should work.
Thanks, newflasher does work. Now the OEM unlock button is checkable.
I know it'll work with hdcp verified devices but there's no room in my car. Centra console be the best choice.
I recently got a xz3 with unlocked bootloader. It got a tad old firmware and since it's unlocked it's not entirely straight forward through OTA(afaik).
Anyway, I went to the Sony Open Devices page and download their flash tool(Emma). When I run it it finds my phone with App-Sw: 1313-7490 52.0.A.3.163, CDF: 1316-4789 R12B which is good. But in the Services window I only get "H9436 52.0.A.3.84 Customized_UK 1316-4519 R11B User-Live COM" as either Firmware Update or Software Update Content Erase. Isn't this an older firmware or am I missing something?
In their walk-through video the get more choices by pressing the View all button, but that one is greyed out for me.

Both on xda
