Question S21/S21 Ultra Gaming Thread - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

I thought I would create a gaming thread for S21 series and S21 Ultra so we can see what great games we're all playing and what runs good for example.
My device is the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 16gb ram 512gb storage, UK version in Phantom Silver.
Real Racing 3
Runs at maximum settings at 120fps on S21 Ultra with no slowdowns at all, highly recommended! My video is capped at 60fps and 1080p
I recorded this using the built in screen recorder so is capped at 60fps and 1080p on YouTube but it gives you an idea of how well it runs while capturing video.
Skyforce Reloaded
Runs at 120fps on S21 Ultra, its a fantastic game!
Captured at 60fps and 1080p.
Cookies Must Die
Another amazing game which runs fantastic on S21 Ultra, The video is capped at 60fps and 1080p
Asphalt 9
Recently updated so now runs at 60fps on maximum settings on S21 Ultra

Are you using a hardware controller on these games?
If so what kind?
PS4 or PS3 controllers work ok?

I'm just using touch controls on those games but I use my xbox one wireless controller on games too as it works with pretty much all games via Bluetooth and obviously works playing xbox one on your device through xcloud or streaming from your console using the xbox app and xbox game pass which also runs fantastic.
Hope that helps

galaxy s21 ultra exynos 2100 12gb ram runs all games at max settings no problem

Tab S 8.4 compared to Tab Pro 8.4

Hi all,
Currently I have the Tab Pro 8.4, and have the chance to return it to the shop and buy the Tab S 8.4 for £40 extra.
However, after playing with the Tab S in the shop and reading reviews online, I do have some pros and cons of “upgrading” from the Tab Pro the Tab S I hope forum members can help me with.
The Screen on the Tab S is great for watch YouTube and Netflix which is what I do most of the time on the tablet. However, I also take the tablet on holiday with me to review pictures taken with camera and watch media under direct sun light. The lower brightness of the Tab S and the cartoonish look of the screen makes it not as good as the Tab Pro.
The Snapdragon 800 in the Tab Pro seems to be faster compared to the Samsung SOC in the Tab S according to reviews. The Snapdragon 800 also looks to have a major advantages when comes to graphic performance. This is important to me as I use the tablet to play graphic intensive games such as GTA, N.O.V.A and large RPG games.
The other advantages the Tab S have such as finger scan, smaller, lighter body and 1GB of extra RAM are not a major concern to me.
So, are there any Tab Pro users changed to Tab S and are happy with the screen and graphic provenance?
Many thanks

If you set the Display Mode to Cinema you lose the overblown cartoonish look. Reds become more red and less orange.
Or set it to "Basic" for more natural look.
The screen looks dark and reddish compared with my Note 8.
I love having a choice with "Adaptive Display"
After reading your title I thought you at least needed a video comparison

Had some time to go back to the dealer and spend some time with the Tab Pro 8.4 and after some comparison I feel the Tab S is the better device. There is little doubt that the super amoled on the Tab S is superior, the screen on the Tab Pro seems like just another LCD screen. I thought I could make the pixels out more easily on the Tab Pro, where with the Tab S you cannot see any pixels without a magnifier. My main interest in looking at the Tab Pro is that I thought the lower contrast on the screen might be better for watching video, but after using it for a bit I don't think it's superior at all.
Another issue is the thinner Tab S seems like a much more modern device, even though the difference is less than 1 mm. There is something about that fake leather look on the Tab Pro that makes it look very dated.
Anyways in my case I will be keeping the Tab S.
I only wish that they kept the Snapdragon but I assume when development kicks off we will enjoy possible overclocking of all 8 cores.

Since I use the Samsung book cover on my 10.5 I had almost forgotten how incredibly thin and light this device is naked. Any lighter and it would actually be difficult to maintain a firm grip on it.
P. S. Once it's broken in a bit the cover is much easier to take on an off than the first time.

Real resolution of Note 8 VR?

Hi, I have a note 4 with its Gear VR Developer edition.
I know that considering its shape, when you watch a movie you can get this resolution
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mobile-vr/gear-vr/resolution-gear-vr-illustrated-t3090214
What about the new VR built for Note 8?
Can real 720p be reached for a movie?
(perhaps I'll buy this phone but the "no 4k thing" is stopping me)
Thanks
I own every gear vr Samsung has released and this one with the note 8 is by far the best one yet.
Sure, the screen door effect is still an issue that 4k may or may not address but do you really want to miss out on all the new software development as vr grows and becomes more mainstream? Not me!
I just installed Samsung's PhoneCast vr app and OMG!!! I love being on the cutting edge!
PhoneCast = kodi in vr! Or any phone app for that matter.
I have watched many movies and TV shows with the gear vr and I am enjoying every minute of the experience.
Hi, thanks for answering : )
You know... my Note 4 is still working ok and that 4k missing is making me doubt a little
Perhaps a real 720p might convince me for good
BTW glad to read it's the best one so far:good:
I thought that once you inserted your Gear VR compatible device into the GearVR. It automatically switches the resolution to QuadHD?

Just returned my Galaxy S9 and pre-ordered the P20 Pro

Hi Guys,
I have just got confirmed from Samsung store that my Galaxy S9 has been successfully returned even after 2 weeks of use.
The reason for me returning the s9 was the extremely poor battery life (due chipset issue) and that the p20 came out with a better photo camera and bigger battery. The S9+ doesn't suffer from the same issue as it has an extra 500mah to compensate for the faster processor.
I am really looking forward to the P20 pro even though it has some drawbacks no EIS/OIS at 4k (only own a HD TV at home) so that is not really important to me. I can get a smartphone stabiliser like the Smooth Q or DJI OSMO Mobile 2 for around £120.00 for serious 4k recording
1080 30fps is more than enough for me and hopefully they bring some EIS to 4K via a software update.
Hi, i have a quedtion:
Is there 3x optical zoom in 1080 60 fps video recordind ?
Hi,
Did you receive the P20 pro?
Do you have any feedback?
Thanks you

Yes - Battery life is much better on P20 Pro compared to S9 -
Photography is also great but video recording lacks stabilization in 4k - If that is essential then go for the S9 Plus

Is p20 pro better in day to day use, ergonomy.
Does it have a better feeling in hands ?

Yes - Feels much better than the Galaxy S9 although that has a curved screen which can feel nice to hold. The drawback of the curved screen is video playback (distortion around the edges) and getting a good tempered glass protector to fit.
The p20 video playback is around the notch (can be disabled)
The battery life has been great on this device unlike the Galaxy S9 which has a hardware issue of not managing the CPU governor well killing battery. The front fingerprint sensor is lightning fast and much better at the front.
I switched from an S9+ to P20 Pro and I'm very happy. The battery, the night mode and the x3 are amazing.

Agreed, saved money also. Paid £730.00 for S9 on their pre order and got it and used it for 1-2 weeks before returning it when P20 Pro was announced.
Pre ordered P20 pro with Bose Headphone deal £720.00 (Very.co.uk with 20% off) and will sell bose headphones for over £200.
P20 Pro works out £520.00 sim free for me overall which is brilliant
Might want to check this out if you plan to root.

Not good for huawei at all. I'm sending mine back.

Youtube videos play at 1440p yet.

So I have an opportunity to buy a tab S2 810 version for 100 bucks. but one thing I did want with an older tablet is the ability to watch Youtube videos at 1440p , at the very least. I heard that Youtube has gotten of that option with the S2. But I am wondering if anyone has gotten a fix for that or maybe doing linageos has allowed us to have 1440p resolution.

Question What Gimbal and gimbal app work best with the Galaxy S21 Ultra?

Wondering if anybody in here can get full functionality out of a Gimbal and gimbal app for the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Pretty much all gimbal apps work. But no 4K 60fps video with any gimbal app. You're limited to 4K 30fps.
And no tele lens...
Is this just a temporary limitation you think that just needs a fix of the gimbal apps?

Unfortunately it is a limitation posed by Samsung that doesn't allow most apps to use the full functionality of the camera.
However, there are apps like FILMIC PRO that managed to overcome the limitations posed by SAMSUNG and can record in 4K60, however they also cannot use the ZOOM lens. FILMIC PRO has a compatibility option for the DJI OSMO MOBILE and ZHIYUN SMOOTH 4 Gimbals.
I would advise you to consider 1 of the 2 so you can use them with FILMIC PRO. I made the mistake to buy a Baseus Gimbal which works fine, but the Baseus APP is limited, the gimbal controls do not work on the Samsung CAM, and FiLMIC has no compatibility option for my Gimbal.

Thank you for the information. The stabilization of the S21 Ultra is so good that I imagine with a gimbal it would be basically perfection.

It's not just Samsung, it's all Android phones that have this limitation. Only iPhones can do 4K 60fps.

Well not exactly, because I can confirm that Filmic does 4K60fps on the s21 Ultra and also on the s9+. (EXYNOS)
Same goes for open camera and mcpro24fps.
All of that without any lib changing. Some apps just managed to overcome the FPS limitation.
I recently backed the PowerVison S1 project https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/powervision-s1-world-s-smallest-smartphone-gimbal/x/18021902#/
They said the S21 Ultra is one of the cases they plan to make. Check out their demo and review videos to see how clever the case is with magnetics and wireless charging.
