Hello,
I just ordered the S20 FE 5G at a pretty good price on Rakuten at 504 € in 128GB / 8GB RAM version. I just received it this morning. I unpack it but not yet turned on. The phone is 100% new, no damage, nothing to report at this time.
Nevertheless, I had a little disappointment when I saw the SIM drawer thinking it was 2SIM + SD Card and in fact it's your choice. Either 2 SIM or 1 SIM + 1 SD card. Anyway ... After doing several searches on the eSIM (since initially, I wanted to use my personal SIM + my pro SIM for work + the SD Card), I came across several concerns:
- Updates for Hong Kong models that seem to arrive last (least serious of all but annoying all the same)
- The flash of an XEF ROM which seems to be a problem
- May be instabilities in Samsung software such as Samsung Pay
- The eSIM which may never happen?
- Network antennas
That being said, do you think that it is still possible to switch it to an XEF version without bricking it?
And are there any SM-G7810 owners here?
Thank you !
I'm not complaining abouth this model so far. It's not buggy, performs well, battery life is great and updates do come as today with February patch. It did skip January. I came from LG and they only updated Europe version each 3 months. Chinese versions got over 4 months to 6 a update.
Hi,
Ok thanks for the feedback! If everything works fine, so much the better. My biggest concern is with the eSIM which I think probably won't be available for HK models ...

Let me get this straight - you would prefer faster updates, XEF software, no issues with Samsung Pay functionality, and the frequencies you use in France - so why did you buy the HK model again??
Hi,
For the price quite simply and the 2 GB of ram more for the S20 FE in HK version. However, I had not considered this kind of concern.
Otherwise I just started it and so far everything is working fine. The battery, however, is not the best ... A small disappointment at this level. Otherwise, everything else is really there!

Try turning 5G off. With 5G turned off, the battery life on the Snapdragon models is excellent.
Thanks for your return,
I had already done this seen that I do not have a 5G package yet but no visible difference. Today, for example, I used it to research the internet for over an hour and reply to messages. I went from 80% (this morning at 6.30am) to 44% at the time of writing this message (3.15pm).
I don't know if it's normal but it seems weird to me ...

No, that doesn't sound normal - but the phone will improve over time as it puts unused apps to sleep, etc. Look at your battery usage to see what is causing the most drain. You should be getting at least 4 hours of screen-on time from a full charge. Cell signal can cause battery life to vary widely in my experience, but even then, this phone should get excellent battery life.
Ok, thanks a lot for the information.
It's been 4 days since I started it but the analysis program of my habits is not yet finished.
Having said that, I haven't done a full charge yet. I only did 40% to 80% small charges to better preserve the battery as I know full charges damage the battery. Maybe I should do one now?
Hi,
I come back to the news. The phone has finished studying my battery usage. It tells me that my battery can last 1 day and 3 hours. A little weak, right?
Especially since I don't play any games. I just use social media / Apple Music / and small calls every now and then. In short, a very common use.
disable google chrome if you don't use it. I've never even opened it and I've disabled it twice (after updates) and it still has two instances of high battery drain.
Hi and thank you for your reply!
I take note of it but it's a bit annoying as this is the browser that I mainly use.
go outside your comfort zone for one week, try another browser and see if it makes a difference.
My sm- g7810 get 6h screen on time with still 30procent left today.Battery is set at maximum performance and 120hz refresh and I don't use auto optimalisation battery, I restart my device just once a day and that's it.
I debloat most useless apps like chrome and social media I don't use. Also standard mail and Google mail and and exchange service I dumbed because they could cause drain. I use my mail and use opera browser that's much better. I have zero complaints of this phone. Maybe u use optimize battery frequently so could drain your battery faster
Hi ! Thanks for the information.
Personally, I did 5 hours of screen yesterday. I started at 90% when I woke up in the morning and I was at 30% around 11pm. On the other hand I am in normal mode, I did not put the performances in maximum mode. I will also try not to use Chrome because I see that it is indeed greedy. Although from what I could see the most greedy are Apple Music and Messenger. The problem is that Messenger, I cannot put it to sleep otherwise I will not receive notifications.
If not, do you think my battery is intact there or should it last longer?

Don't worry to much, everything thing that stream like apple music is a battery eater.I depends on every user how much it affect battery life tru the day. Now I did 5h 11min with 25 procent left. You can't expect the same results

Your battery is fine. Try playing around with some of your settings to see if it makes any difference. For example, although I have two SIMs installed, I'm not currently using the second one, so I turned it off. This seems to have helped a lot. Also, 'Double Tap to Wake' etc., drains battery, so make sure your phone is set up as you like/need it (and nothing more) - then stop worrying about it.
Hi,
Thanks to you for these answers.
This reassures me about the life of my battery!

Somewhere earlier this year I started getting a 20% overnight battery drain. On a few nights it didn't drain, but its pretty consistent. I have tried everything listed on this forum..This drain is definitely not caused by any standard settings. I am really hoping somebody with insight into Oreo might have something new I could try. I know xda user Digisteve is going to showup and suggest more things, and that is also not going to work.
Things I've tried.
- using root to disable logd. (saw this as a process in BBS) Still drained.
- Disabling auto-sync of all accounts. Still drained.
- Turning on stamina mode at night. Still drained.
- Removed google play store, google play services framework, and all google aps - and replaced with alternative China app store. - Still drained. Not a play services problem.
- Turning off wifi, all wifi scanning, notifications of wifi networks etc. Still drained.
- Turning off mobile data and wifi - no connectivity at all. Still drained.
- Turned of location in all possible device settings,. Still drained.
- Rooted the device with Janjan method/kernal. Still drained.
- Flashed different regions. Including (Taiwan, my region, Malaysia, Germany, Swiss, HK). Still drained.
- Tried firmware verions , 179 , 205, 235, 270
- Deleting 3rd party apps. Still drained.
- Installing Gsam - checking for consuming apps. No apps listed as cause of the drain.
- Installed greenify. Tried as standard, non-rooted with adb permissions, and fully rooted. Still drained.
- Disabling various packages related to 'carrier services', qualcomm and rcs. Still drained.
- Debloated to the point that the phone had no google apps, no Xperia apps and removed tons of other apps, camera bloat, anon data, etc, all removed. Still drained.
- All built in apps replaced with a 3rd party app, including, sms, contacts, email, keyboard. Still drained.
- Installed Linage OS 15.1 Beta 5. Still drained.
- switched from 3G only to LTE only. both drained equally.. though I have worse single with LTE in my area.
I am hoping there is a better solution than throwing the phone away. Because I am pretty much at that point now. I have spent probably well over 120 hours trying to fix this, and I can't. Its at the point where I need to move on to a new device rather than waste more time.... but there are no small devices on the market now, and also no more classic xperia style devices on the market. Sony does not make the executive, classic 'Xperia' style I fell in love with anymore. I don't do round, heavy, huge phones. Very sad.
UPDATE - AUGUST 14
Now running the latest Customized German 270 firmware.
Still draining 20% per night. Check out the screen shots - clear to see I have almost no apps. No process can be seen as a battery hog in both Gsam and BBS. However Gsam screenshot shows evidence of CPU usage.
UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 13 - FOUND THE PROBLEM
Considering almost nobody had my issue, I assumed my phone must be a dud. Late August I bought a second XZ1 compact. The new phone worked for 1 day, and on the second day drained battery at 15% per night idle drain. Previously I had only tested the sim card by switching 3g,4g and disable mobile data, but never actually removing the sim from the phone. Last 2 nights I replaced my old sim with my gf sim of a different carrier. In the morning I had 99% battery remaining. No Drain!
I then downloaded an app these measures signal strength, and turns out where I sleep at night, there is is less reception. Its not noticeable just looking at the standard signal strength on your home screen, you need to check the more detailed strength in decibel millimps /dbm. I can still get good signal in most areas of my house, but the phone is having to use more power to keep the signal good. I can now reproduce the battery drain on demand. If I sleep with the phone near my bed, I get drain. But if I keep the phone in the living room, no drain. I found that connecting to wifi not a factor, since even if you use wifi for data, the phone was still holding open a connection the the cell tower.
This problem took me months, countless hours, and the expense of buying a completely new phone!!! Now I have 2 XZ1 compacts....arg.... but so happy its solved.
The important point is that if testing sim, good signal, or disabling mobile data, changing 3g 4g isn't enough. Your phone is using more power to maintain good signal.
Thank you to everyone who spend time trying to help me, digestive, proflyer, etc. Thank you guys.
At this point, I think it's highly likely you got yourself a lemon. Since you've already rooted the phone, warranty service is out of the question.
It boils down to two options:
1. Pay for a board replacement.
2. Try your luck with a brand new XZ1C. Buy it online so that you'll get the 7 days return perk (some online stores offer 10 days), keep it wrapped in its original packaging, handle with extreme care, and use it normally for a few days before your return window runs out. If you no longer get drains, congrats, and welcome to the club. If not, accept your fate, return it for a full refund, and give up on the XZ1C - understand that you weren't meant for each other and move on.
I had the same issue. Check this thread. Try that and report back.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...ormal-battery-consumption-wifi-t3740495/page3
I know what you feel. I had this too, but mine went away and I only very rarely have this drain. But mine was always on Wifi. With Wifi off = no drain reported... never.
I investigated it for weeks without coming to a conclusion.
If you can, replace the phone with warranty. Worth a try. Right now in my opinion you have a hardware faulty device.
But i would say to wait for android 9. In my opinion it wont take ages to come. It will much likely come this year.

He still has drain even with WIfi Off, so that not the problem.
The only other thing I could suggest is having the battery replaced at a local repair shop. If you got a lemon battery but an otherwise fine phone, that could help.
How about remove your SIM card with wifi on for over night? Do you still experience the drain?

ONE WORK AROUND. If I reboot the phone, then unlock it so "android is starting" screen is complete. Then lock the phone, without doing anything else - The battery does not drain overnight. In light of this, what could be the solution? I know an app sounds logical, but I arlready checking my 3rd party apps, and none of them were the probably, an no battery app has ever listed an app as a drain.
Any technical or Dev person go any idea what that symptom points towards?

This does indeed sound like an app or a service gets stuck in an awkward way. You indicated in your first post that you use better battery stats, do you mind posting screenshots of the top of the summary, kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks page (showing keeping awake services) as well as the bottom of the cpu states page (showing deep sleep time) "since unplugged" after a few hours of drain?
I have attached corresponding screenshots here for my xz1c (after more than 24 hours unplugged) as a reference (I have play services enabled and syncing both gmail and contacts and so on, no root though).

That doesnt make too much sense. Test it for at least one week before coming to conclusions.
Try this and let me know if it works
I had exactly the same issue
What i did (now magicaly works)
I did not have too many time so what I did was simple and I got a cheap replacement phone in the meantime
It seems to be beyond everything we tried
I conected the phone to the pc and did the fix with xperia companion, then I realized that everything was working as soon as I started to install the apps the problem came back, I installed a launcher (nova) and use it, drained the battery útil reach zero and fully charge it, then everything was working... Back to normal... I don't know how the issue was solved but hope it works for you
Sorry about my bad english xD

The screenshots from BBS look pretty normal, the GSMBattery shots show issues with Google Play Services, so I'm guessing they were taken at different times. But there's nothing jumps out of the stats that looks out of the ordinary. Have you run the phone in safe mode overnight to see if you get the same drain? I think you may just have a duff battery, no one else has reported this sort of power loss before.
$40 down the repair shop to get a new battery is going to be a whole lot cheaper than a new phone.

I agree with didgesteve, nothing jumps out by just looking at bbs (I am not familiar with gsam, so I cannot comment so much on that).
Before replacing the battery, I would probably make sure that it is not radio/network related. I have noticed that my phone draws significantly different amount of battery (in deep sleep mode) depending on the mobile network. This is mostly independent on whether mobile data is on or off.
Could you turn on airplane mode for an hour or two and verify that it is not the radio chip that is causing your drain? (If that is the cause, I am not sure if you can do anything about it apart from switching carriers or experimenting with 2g/3g/4g settings, but it might be worth knowing)

I also had the drain that Dean has. But mine wasnt so agressive, I mean, some days it was there draining 30% battery over my sleep time (8hrs) and sometime it just behaved normally draining max 3% over sleep time. But still from time to time the drain come back wich is annoying as I cant let my phone with 30% battery left when im going to sleep, afraid the battery will be dead and the alarm wont wacke me up lol.
On my extensive tests, the drain only happened with wifi, but even deactivating all wifi related process (backups, syncs etc) the drain was sometimes there. Wifi wasnt the culprit with Dean, but on my tests: Wifi On = Sometimes big drain , Wifi Off = never drain.
I never managed to find the culprit of this damn drain and Im a software tester. Gsam did not show anything unusual at all. It was like Deans screenshot.
We discussed about this issue a lot here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/help/battery-life-bit-odd-t3688342/page8) but till this day we dont know whats triggering it.
Im curious how the phone will behave on this issue with android P.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I have the knowledge to judge that. I would expect CPU usage to be low in deep sleep mode, but since the CPU is mostly sleeping, I guess any requested usage will queue up in a way that might look odd, so what you are seeing might be normal (but again, I don't actually know). I also believe that CPU power consumption is mostly related to the frequency state it is in, so deep sleep should mean low consumption (independent on cpu util %).
As I indicated in my previous post, I would sooner blame the radio chip or the battery than the CPU given your BBS screenshots.

Bro, Samsung is even worse when it comes to battery drain. Check out linus tech tips vid from a few days ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n46s_iF_IV4&t=324s
My wifes side of the family all have Samsungs.... they are totally ****. The OS is bloated, ugly, laggy despite monster specs huge ram, snap 845, and battery nightmares on brand new phones exactly like in Linus's video. And there is a stupid "BIXBY BUTTON" on the phone which is a total nightmare. if your with Samsung, BIXBY will the with you, following you forever.
In other news, I replaced my Taiwan XZ1 compact with an Australian XZ1 Compact, and my drain is gone. I drained 2% last night.
There are so many build differences with the Taiwan and Australian build of the phone. Bigger microphone holes, slightly different proximity sensor design, and the plastic back is a rough matt black/gray in the AU versions, the TW version was a smoother shiny midnight black with a silver sparkle in the sun. The biggest difference was of course the battery drain.
Hi All,
I seem to have issues with my battery calibration. 100-90% is depleted in 30 mins and 10-0% is depleted in 12 mins under regular usage. BBS and Accubattery don't seem to report anything strange. Also, the phone gets extremely hot during these periods. I have tried disabling sync, location. I have also tried enabling power-saving mode but to no avail. Tried with airplane mode on, removed one sim, switched sim cards but to no avail. I also tried running it down to 0% and charging it with three different chargers, Samsung 15w, Mi 18w, and through type c charging with my laptop. The result stays the same. I also forced software recalibration using *#0228#
I have also reset the phone and set it up without smart sync.
The total battery life has been average but not spectacular. I would like to know if there is anything I can do before I claim the warranty as it would take 3-4 days at my nearest service center and I would like to use keep using my phone
Here are a few important specs:
Processor: Exynos
Dual Sims: Jio and Airtel(Indian)
Software version: XXS2AUBB (March Update)
Accounts: 3- Normal, Dual Messenger and Work Profile
Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
What is your total battery time etc

It's likely that Dual sim is the cause for the rapid drain. Did you try running only 1 sim for a day? If the issue persists, then perform an ODIN clean install. If the issue is still there, then send it to service centre
Try wiping phone cache, also instal thermal Guardian from Galaxy labs and see if temps are rly high, if it is try lower the thermal threshold, heat is very bad for batteries so it might be the problem. What are you doing when phone gets hot? I usually get 1 hour SOT from 10%.

The battery life per se is not that bad. It is higher than what i have got from my OP8 pro and S10 plus. But my concern is the uneven battery drain. 100-90% is something i can live with. But 10-0% literally is like a new year's countdown..
And my signal strength is always excellent and i have vowifi on. So i thought that shouldn't be a concern.
I am not a very heavy user.. Most of my work is mail, google meet and youtube.

If its just the drain, it should have been fine. It gets ridiculously hot during the drain. There is also an option in Find My mobile to enable sending the location during the last few battery %. Toggling it off didn't help either.

The frame and back of the phone are too hot to touch.. and the screen gets uncomfortably warm. Cpu Monitor hovers around 65 degrees c.
I had an Galaxy s20 FE 5G and now i have S21 ultra and both are draining from 100-90% quickly, I think its the way Samsung is, I guess. I heard this complaint many times and in forums i have read and posted people keep saying its normal for Samsung devices.

Hi..try to do an ODIN reset. That should most likely solve the issue. If you still have the option to return/ replace the device, then that would be a better bet.
24h ago flashed (with Odin) G998BXXU3AUDA ... so far so good . Its too early for conclusions , better battery life is noticeable and no more phone overheating , ... but I will wait for the next few days for a complete conclusion.
One thing to note that if you are using 5G then expect higher battery usage. 5G is data only so a 4G connection is also required for texts and calls, this means when using 5G you actually have to keep two connections to the cell towers. If you have 5G available maybe try turning that off for a day to see what difference it makes.

Hi All,
I seem to have issues with my battery calibration.
TIA.

Please update to the latest version of the update - AUC8 (with the April Patch).
Then, please do a cache wipe.
And wait on a few days for the software to understand and adapt to your usage.
Hopefully things should work out for the better.

You don't need to wipe the cache it is wiped when updating anyway
Last night my phone was on 81%, so I decided not to charge it because today is Saturday so no rush. I turned on battery saver and went to sleep. Imagine my surprise, after 8 hours of sleep battery was51%. Thats 30% loss of charge with battery saver enabled and phone left to just rest. That's shocking. I've seen 8-10% loss on a new phone, because the first couple of days you just install your apps and move your stuff like music, videos, pics etc and the phone needs to optimize all the new stuff and still learning your pattern of use. But after two months it should have settled down by now. Considered the fact that it stays on charger overnight at business days so it has enough time to optimize. It's quite clean and debloated, it's the official UK variant bought directly from Vodafone. I guess that instead of enjoying my weekend I will spend my time trying to tackle the issue. Don't get me wrong - the general impression of the phone is positive, but I believe Xiaomi have a long way ahead of them to mature the MIUI and take care of such nonsense. They brag about being second in shipment of phones worldwide but if you ask me they are way behind in software development. I mean seriously, even the official ota update you get is called "stable version". It's like they're experimenting. This is the major reason why apple and sammy are not scared of Xiaomi. Just because miui is still immature experiment. Huawei on the other hand was very mature software wise before they were screwed up so badly.
On the general there's quite few things that are quite annoying. I mean, ghost touches on the display, questionable fingerprint reader, despite the fact I don't use screen protector and got rid of the foil it came with. Now I have a ghost alarm. I use to wake up at 5:50 every morning but I moved to a different place so now I can sleep till 6:40. But whatever I do the alarm at 5:50 is still there. Active. I deleted all the alarms, cleaned cache and storage, whatever. I wake up at 5:50 every morning. The NFC chip is quite wonky too. Sometimes it works from like 5 centimeters distance, other times it doesn't even work at all, or just giving you error. It's like the phone is in deep sleep and you have to unlock it and play with it couple of minutes to make sure your contactless payment works. Never seen anything like that. I come from oneplus and despite being two year old phone contactless payment worked like a charm. Every single time. I don't see myself with this phone two years from now.
Well, I got no problems with battery drain during my sleeping time. I didn't use it that much yesterday, but as you can see, there is no unusual drain at all.

Hi Guys
I have a problem. I bought a refurbished Galaxy s10 in Switzerland and after I received it I realised it is the Snapdragon Version. So far I was very happy with that. But since I have got it I have never received a single software Update. My Current Software is Android 11 with One UI-Version 3.1 Software Version G973USQU5GUBH/G973UOYN5GUBH/G973USQU5GUBH and Security Patch Version March 1st 2021. I think its an ATT unlocked Device, because the Software Version of the Provider is SAOMC_SM-G973U_OYN_XAA_QQ_0007 XAA/XAA/ATT.
Does anyone know how to Update the Software manually without the OTA Updates, because i'm not connected to an ATT Network. Also in Smart-Switch it says it is on the latest Software.
If I would flash a newer Firmware Version on it, which one should i take, because I'm a bit confused that the Model Number is G973U and not U1, even though I think the Firmware on it is for the G973U1?
I hope someone can help me with this rather complicated situation.
Thanks a lot in advance
Fast Lessy
It makes sense that you are not getting updates, because you are not on the ATT network. The phone will only get an update if it recognizes the carrier it's on, which in your case it cannot, of course.
For this reason, you will always have to update manually, unless you're in a country where the Snapdragon is normally available and you can find a ROM with a matching carrier.
Your XAA/XAA/ATT means that, yes, the phone was built as an ATT phone. However, the XAA/XAA means that the ROM cannot recognize the carrier you are actually on, so it's staying on the USA "universal" ROM which is XAA. It also doesn't recognize your SIM, hence the second XAA there.
If your phone is working for you fine, then you can remain on this setup. I would recommend getting another XAA ROM and installing that using ODIN. You should be able to do this with ODIN's "upgrade" process, but I'm not sure if that will erase anything in your phone or not, so I strongly recommend having backups of whatever is important to you, just in case.
I would also recommend NOT using Android 12, as many have had issues with this latest version of the OS - as an OS and because of incompatibilities with software. I would recommend A11. You can download a suitable A11 ROM via various websites. One example is samfw.com. I like them because they show you what you're downloading, for example, here is the A11 for ATT: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G973U1/ATT/G973U1UES6GUL1
You will see that the files are OYM, which is the "XAA" version of the ROM you are using now (in your typing, you may have had a typo because you typed it as "OYN" in your Provider?). That's why I suggest this version, as it matches what you already have. Makes sense?
So, you get this version, install the HOME_CSC type via upgrade in ODIN (see why you use HOME_CSC here: https://technastic.com/csc-home-csc-samsung-odin/) and it should update your phone to the latest A11 version (December security patch level).
I take no responsibility if you have problems with this process. Always have backups, just in case anyway.
Thank you so much for this very detailed answer. As i already have Android 11 on it and you don't recommend Android 12 i will propably stay on this Version. I just thought it was nice to have Android 12 but if its like you said i better stay with what i have. Thanks so much for your help.
Actually the OYN was not a typo. Thats the confusing part for me. It literally says OYN.
Yeah, ATT does some weird stuff. They refuse to release their own ROMs, so things get a little weird in there.
That said, G973U is a non-unlocked phone ROM... and for that, you would get OYN... so you're correct there. However, you can't find OYN ROMs online because, again, ATT won't release their ROM.
The comparable is the G973U1 ROM which is for an unlocked phone, and that has OYM.
If you wanted to get OYN again, you can get the multi-CSC OYN here, for example: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G973U/SPR/G973USQS6GUL1
It says it's Sprint, but that would be an OYN version, and it says Multi-Cert so it should be fine for your usage. You could do an update with that, and it should remain "XAA" and should work the same. It might be good to do this since your version is much older and doesn't have the security updates.
Alternatively, you may be able to find a ROM that works "properly" with your carrier... but that would likely require a wipe of the phone since you're changing the ROM "type". (You could get lucky and just have it work with an upgrade as well, but I don't know for sure.)
If it was me, I would backup and give the OYM version a shot. Or, if you want to be a little "safer" run the upgrade OYN version from the Sprint carrier that I linked. Both would probably be equivalent in the end... the latter is just easier since it is an upgrade.
Again, the risk is yours to take... I can't promise anything!
Is it possible that the battery drains quicker because as you said the phone doesn't recognize the network and SIM Card. I can connect to the cellular network normally and use my SIM Card without any problems but since I got the phone I've had medium battery life. It isn't bad but for Snapdragon I thought it would be around 6-7 hours of SOT. Instead I have something between 3 and 5 hours on a normal day. I'm rarely gaming on my phone and most of the usage is YT and Instagram or browsing.
Do you know anything that could prevent the drain, because I tried quite a lot of things to improve the battery life.

Sorry for the delayed response... yes, not having the carrier synced could cause reduced battery life. I've heard that this can happen because the phone is trying to use frequencies it has, but those may not be the right ones supported by your carrier, so it has to hunt around and use whatever is available... which could even be a weaker signal.
All of this is theory - I have no experience with it like this, but I've heard this explanation before. I would certainly recommend trying to get it synced to your carrier if possible.
Beyond that, you should also check the battery usage - if the cell signal is the major draw, then this makes sense, but I honestly haven't seen that much draw related to SOT... so I'm thinking you may have other drains, but the wrong carrier is a possibility.
FWIW, my S10+ estimates 10hrs of SOT, according to AccuBattery...
That would also make sense to my and explain the drain. However when I check Accubattery or Gsam Battery monitor, the battery usage of the Network is normal at around 2 percent. The usage in those apps shows no unusual battery drain or power drawing service. Thats what drives me a bit crazy. Everything shows up to be perfectly normal and I think the battery got replaced before I bought the Phone 9 months ago. I cant explain the SOTs because I dont have a very heavy usage. The standby drain over night is quite good aswell with around 3-5 Percent in 6hours. However if I have my phone in my pocket during the day as a student, the battery drains quicker. I dont really get it but luckily it isnt a huge problem for me because I can charge my phone whenever I need to during the day. I just wished I could find a fix that would make the SOTs around 5hours in normal usage.
But thanks a lot for explaining everything to me and trying to help. I really appreciate that.
Fast_Lessy
You're very welcome. With the drain your seeing, what are the actual items showing higher drain, then? I mean, the apps (and even the built in battery graphs) should be able to show you where it's going?
Also, in accubattery you should see the battery health - how is that looking?
Thats the cursed thing. I dont see anything unusual in the power consumption of the apps. Accubattery says the battery has 83% of capacity left, which I doubt, I think its higher. I can charge my phone with a USB-Tester to see to what capacity it will charge. Today is quite a good example of the battery life. I had my phone in my pocket for most of the time. The battery is at 63 percent after 1h30mins of SOT. As I mentioned before its not very bad but I would like to get more out of it. As you can see on the screenshot I have Power Saving mode activated and still have these SOTs.
I attached my screenshot for reference. Not sure it helps, but good for comparison at least.
Your usage pattern seems more like my wife's... she uses Chrome a LOT and usually drains the battery before the end of the day. I would check her SOT and stuff but she's using her phone at the moment, so I'll try to get that to you later.
You'll note that I use Firefox instead, and have much less battery usage (yours is 10% for 14m of use, mine is around 1.2% for 6m of use... extrapolating that means I should still be around 2.4% for 12m usage, which is quite a bit less than Chrome). I'd say give that a try? I switched her to FF as well, and I think that has helped her as well...
You're right, though, I'm not seeing anything unusual in your usage... but you should get more SOT. As you can see, I get much more SOT and I have white screens, no battery saver, etc.
Like you said, maybe your battery isn't quite up to capacity. I had Accubattery on my old phone, and even after 5 years it kept saying I was above 90% capacity. I don't believe that to be true... so we may not want to believe in that too much. That being said, however, if you're showing 83% capacity, I might say you actually have LESS than that (based on my previous phone info). I agree, if you can do a USB charge test, that might be helpful.
EDIT: Do you use any "battery saving" apps? I've found those can make things worse... I use none of them.
Here's my wife's battery data for today. As I said, she uses the web a LOT versus my usage. Also note how 3 hours of usage on FF only took about 24% battery.
Accubattery on her phone also estimates about 10h SOT. Again, she doesn't use any battery saver apps, settings, etc. She usually has her screen on much brighter than mine as well... and yet she gets that kind of life. Impressive.
Remeber, these are both S10+ units, not S10 (standard). Your SM-G973U is a standard S10, so that will matter as well. S10+ is the SM-G975...
Thanks for your help. I think the difference might be because the S10+ has a significantly bigger battery. After all i love the S10 and Samsung has no newer Phone that I would want to switch to so I guess I will use the phone until the battery really gets worse and then replace it.
Hi everyone,
I got my new S20 FE just a few days ago, and I'm still getting used to it, but I wonder if having to charge the battery every day on average is "normal" or not.
When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery is never flat. Rather, it's hovering at around 30%, and I usually stop charging when it reaches 85 to 90%. I use the 15W (?) charger that was in the box, so no ultra-quick charge for this one.
I tried to plug it into a Xiaomi/Poco 33W charger for a few minutes, just to see if it would speed things up, but the remaining charging time was the same as with the regular charger so I reverted to it, just to be on the safe side.
Still, I wonder if it's normal to have to recharge the phone every day, when my Poco X3 Pro needed to be charged every two days on average. Granted, the Poco has a bigger battery, but it has an LCD screen instead of an AMOLED.
I spend a lot of time on Twitter, especially in the evening, mostly, but that's it. No gaming of any kind.
What say you?

Hi,
I've turned Auto brightness off. I'll tell you if it changes anything in terms of battery life. I've also set AOD to fixed brightness instead of auto.
Thanks for the tip!
No problem, thank you for the question!
I think that debloating is not a bad idea, also try to go to all individual apps settings and set the battery to Restricted, except mail and messaging apps, so they won't drain the battery when you're not using them. Lowering the screen refresh rate also helps a bit, as well as restricting mobile data to 4G only, if you don't need 5G. Also, you can limit processor speed, turn Adaptive battery on and Enhanced processing off.
Hi again!
I've changed network settings to 4G and below since my SIM doesn't give me access to 5G yet, but battery life was still iffy. I then changed the network settings to something called "GLOBAL", and it's a bit better, though I don't know what that setting does exactly.
It also depends on how much your using your phone, what apps your running (games vs non-games, etc).
For example, I've played some games, but mainly have been on the internet via apps like social media, email, web browser.
I'm currently at 55% And it's been over 24 hours since I last fully charged it. The Battery graph says based on how I've been using the phone that I still have about 1d 3h left.
I do usually charge once a day, but it's definitely more than 24 hours after the last charge. I went to bed last night with over 62% left after having charged it probably 12 hours prior. When I woke up this morning, it was done to 59% and since then, is now at 55%.
So I've been pretty pleased with the battery life for me. Whether that's good or bad, I have no idea but it's definitely better than my last phone.
I don't do games on my phone (in fact, I don't do games at all, period), but I think the AOD being set on automatic lighting could have something to do with my relatively poor battery life. I'll try to set it to a fixed brightness and see if it changes things, though the brightness scale is pretty rudimentary. Maybe the light sensor is turned off when automatic brightness is off.
I usually spend more time on Twitter when I'm on the phone, so this could explain that.
Another possible factor is my application launcher: I use Microsoft Launcher, which I adore, but every time I wake up the screen, it does a position fix to update the weather widget. That could also explain why my battery drains faster than I expected.
I've just set AOD to fixed brightness. I'll tell you if it helps or not. Thanks for your input anyway!

I used to use Microsoft Launcher, but then switched to Nova launcher. However, since getting this phone, I've moved to OneUI and I'm loving it. I haven't really changed anything. AOD is set to whatever it was out of the box and I've been on Twitter and the web since I last posted and I'm currently at 53%.
I think I have seen MS Launcher be a battery hog if I remember. Nova isn't as bad, but OneUI seems to work great.
Also, the number and type of widgets you have installed could also cause battery drain. For me, I only have one screen. I use smart widgets to "stack" widgets I need which are calendar, weather (from WeatherBug), Brave Search, PowerAmp (for music) and then the phone maintenance widget. So far, battery life is pretty good like I've said.
You can also go into Settings->Battery and Device Care and maybe check in there to see what might be eating up your battery the most.
I like the look and feel of MS Launcher, compared to others (I believe I've tried them all over the years...), even if I have to admit Nova is a close second. MS Launcher is a possible culprit, obviously. I may switch back to One UI to check how things are going, I don't know.
I've just topped-off the battery, and just idling, the phone is supposed to last over 2 days until the next charge, but I know it won't last that long.
So I got my phone used (only 2 months, still has back poly attached) and it came with august 1 update and the battery drain on it is abysmal. I can see the battery go down while I'm browsing insta or whatever, not even gaming. You know what instantly fixed it? Downclocking my gpu and cpu using FKM. But this is not a pretty solution as it requires root and I would like to experience stock without root for a bit.
Which makes me think the system isn't properly downclocking the soc when idle leading to increased drain. I would like to know if anyone has a better fix than just disabling all the options on your phone.

Well, considering it's used (was it refurbished or did you purchase it off eBay or some other market)? That might be why it was being sold. You said 2 months. Does that mean it was only used for 2 months or you've had it for 2 months? If the phone itself is only 2 months old, who knows how the previous owner used the phone.
Did you do a factory reset when you got it to ensure it was back to stock settings? If so, then it might be your battery is bad and could be the reason it was sold/returned by the previous owner. If you haven't factory reset it, that is possibly the only other option that I can think of if you've already rooted and downclocked it.
Mine was new when I got it a few weeks ago and the battery lasts 1.5 days for me, even with the refresh rate set to 120 Hz. And that's with moderate use (playing games a bit, browsing the web, texting, phone calls).
You might want to try setting your screen refresh to 60 Hz to see if that helps as well if you haven't done that yet.
Go to Settings->Display->Motion Smoothness and select "Standard" to set it to 60 Hz refresh. That will save some battery as well.
See if that helps as well. If not, and as I stated, if you haven't done a factory reset, that might be your only other option unless someone else has something I haven't thought of.

Yeah I got it from a store second hand. Came with the back poly still attached and no damages on the body. A killer deal. As for the battery issue, I had flashed wrong region stock rom. After learning what csc meant and figuring out I was on the wrong region I flashed the right rom and now my battery life is top notch. On a side note it has only 54 charge cycles after I got it.

This is actually the second device I bought this year. At first I upgraded my Redmi Note 5 Pro which gave me 4 years of great service. Could have reached 5 but then I would not be able to exchange it so I did and got a Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g. Considering how much I paid for it I was more or less satisfied except the camera. Then I bought this after months of careful consideration and also because it was a killer deal. I got a brand new device for half the price. Flagship specs at 33k bdt. You can't get a better deal.
