Question My next phone? - Redmi Note 10 Pro

I've been looking at the phones for a while now to replace my Redmi note 4x which is starting to be on its end.
Well everyone seems to agree on the specs, a very solid mid-range. Personally, what I'm looking for is a bestseller, because they are super well followed by the Dev's (thanks to them).
I'm still adamant about the jack port, the microSD.
Here what I'm most interested in is the screen and the battery.
Amoled+732G+5020mAH should be a good mix for an excellent autonomy, right?
I remember how hard it was to unlock the bootloader of my redmi note 4x. Is it still the same system at Xiaomi?
I remember hearing that Xiaomi could refuse to unlock the bootloader, legend or reality?
I find it super frustrating not to have update anymore.
Can we expect a long term follow up on this model?

While I can't speak about if it's still the same system as back in 2017, I can say that the bootloader unlock process is quite tedious. When I unlocked my Xiaomi Mi 9T pro back in 2019, I had a 168 hour (7 day) waiting period after using Mi Unlock tool and had to actively use my phone during that period. After that, it was pretty easy: just flash the newest TWRP and grab a ROM.
The Redmi Note 10 pro looks like an awesome phone for the money. I actually just bought two for my family, it really seems that good.

No, you don't have to actively use the phone while waiting! Just start the waiting period and play with your old phone. It's not that difficult to unlock.

difficult no but annoying yes

Is it possible to unlock using adb unlock?
My phone just arrived and I pretente to flash an AOSP rom as soon as possibe

Unfortunately not. As far as I know, the only way to unlock is through Mi Unlock tool (and to go through the annoying unlock process).

How much time after release it took to unclock bootloader and install TWRP?

How much time after release it took to unclock bootloader, install custom rom and TWRP?
I now have nexus 6 and i want to buy mi mix 2; but i need to know how to unlock the bootloader and if there will be TWRP and root/magisk
on nexus 6, i unlocked the bootloader 1 week after the device was released, and custom roms+root come almost the same week the device was released;
now i want to know the story of mi mix 1, how much time it took to unlock bootloader and then root; and after, how much time it took for custom roms to come out
any anwer will be appreciated
If your wanting info on the Mi Mix 2 then your probably in the wrong forum. Isnt there a forum for the mix 2? As for the original mi mix, I bought mine new from eBay and within about 5 mins after receiving the device it was rooted. As far as the bootloader goes believe it or not but mine was already unlocked, so I can not tell you the time on how long it takes to unlock the bootloader. I believe you have to request for a bootloader unlock, through Xiaomi website, don't quote me on that because I'm not 100% sure. Someone will probably post some, better and more accurate info for you. This is my 1st international device. I have owned the Nexus 6 3 times over a 3 year period, there isn't anything about the Nexus I can't fix I absolutely loved that device and I still like the N6, it's a good device! Good luck with your endeavors.

Should I buy the Chinese version?

Hi,
I saw an excellent deal for the chinese version - 330usd.
But it comes without google play so I guess this is the chinese rom and not the global one.
Is it true I can unlock the device via the Xiaomi web site? and can I easily (already changed dozens of roms to ~10 devices at the past) change the rom to the global version?
Are there brick issues regarding updates?
Or should I just pay another 50 usd and get the oneplus 6?
Thank you!

This question keeps getting asked almost daily. There are many threads, way too many already. As long as you keep your bootloader UNLOCKED, you can flash whatever ROM you like. You can only RE-LOCK the bootloader with ALL Partitions back to the version (china or global) that your phone came with or you WILL BRICK your device where only an Authorized EDL account (which they don't give out anymore) can unbrick the device.
I think the phone is worth it, however my only gripe right now is that you can't have ROOT and have DATA partition encrypted at the same time. I'm sure eventually will be sorted out, but i like the phone and the weekly beta updates so-far since they fixed most of the complaints i had. FYI i came from an OP3T, and though the phone may not be as friendly -i think it was worth the savings in the end.

Great, thank you for the response! sorry for the additional thread...
I have also purchased the Chinese version of this phone - previous phones before that were the Oneplus 3 and Huawei P20 and so far I think this phone is one of the best I have had, will be much better when I finally unlock the bootloader.
The only downside I can see to these phones is resale value once you decide to move phones, there doesn't seem to be that much demand for them in the same way that there is for Oneplus and Huawei.

Same here, the chinese text is: 手机使用未达到指定时间,无法解锁 that in english sound more or less like <The phone has not been used for the specified time and cannot be unlocked> but no one knows what it means
New update guys i signed out of mi account in settings and it just worked
Tried the same thing and it worked for me too! Now my bootloader is unlocked. My Mi 8 is a global version. Thanks!

Still possible to unlock Mi 9T pro after phone is officially EOL / unlocking period

Greetings everyone,
I used to have a Mi 9T pro unlocked, rooted and running custom roms. I gave it away to my mom who needed a new phone and she loves it ever since.
I remember back when I first set it up, I had to wait for one week in order to be able to unlock the bootloader.
I am now considering getting a new one to set it up for a friend as a cheap phone.
I found the following quote online:
"If your device is up-to-date and still receiving updates (not EOL), your 1-week unlock period has begun."
Does anyone know if this statement is correct? Is it not possible to unlock Mi 9T pros anymore due to them being EOL? Is the 1 week waiting period still in place?
I am unsure how to interpret this.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't say that it's impossible but that the waiting time is different, probably instantaneous.

Yes, I was unsure how to read the sentence, but thanks for your input!
I would ideally like someone who recently unlocked their phone to share their experience.

The problem is that it is an "old version" and new phone, it will be difficult to find.
My old Xiaomi have already been unlocked, not possible to verify.
Just wanted to give an update to anyone who cares:
I got a new Mi 9T pro and was successfully able to unlock it.
I reused the same Mi Account I previously used for my old phone.
I did not have to wait for 7 days and was able to instantly unlock the phone!

Question TMO NE2217 Bootloader unlock option open after A13 Update

It wasn't available before, my phone is still carrier locked. It updated to Android 13 last night. And now I can toggle OEM unlock under dev settings. Should I send it?
Interesting, are you SIM unlocked already? I bought mine from OP so I didn't have to deal with this, but a friend just got theirs from TMobile so I'd be interested to know if this actually works. I wouldn't want to tell you what to do it as it's your money, but if you have a backup phone and you're within your TMobile return window I'd imagine there's no harm in trying. You'll have to enter bootloader to run the `oem unlock` command to fully test if it works
I was able to unlocked mine out of the box when I got mine, and I'm on A12 still. You might have to do more than just the oem unlock, as you still have to get the OP token that takes exactly 2 weeks. Aside from that I haven't done anything but root for a few apps like superfreeze and AFwall. I'm about to sell this thing as it's noticeably less responsive and more laggy than my OP8t. Not to mention I don't even think you can restore anything without MSM. So if you wanna try root, it'll probably most likely work just don't mess around kernels and whatever else.

Oh man, I'm so glad to see it's not just me. I went from an 8T to 10Pro, and it seriously felt like a downgrade. Like an idiot, I traded my 8T at TMO so I got the carrier-locked one. That'll never happen again.
