Looked at many reviews on the Google Pixel 2XL and Note 8. I currently have a exynos variant Note 8 and thinking about selling to get the Pixel. Has anybody came from the Pixel 2 Xl to the Note 8 and if so are you happy with your decision?

Don't do it. Couldn't be happier, even with the lack of Roms on my SnapDrag Note 8.
Yes there are roms or more modding for the Pixel series, but at the end of the day, they are all the same Roms with the same tweaks renamed to something else. Don't get me wrong, I do miss my XL 2 at times but whenever I whip out this SPen......yeah, can't top the productivity of the Note 8.

The s-pen is a great addition but i barely use it honestly. The only reason i havent switched is because of the blue tint horror stories of the pixel 2 xl...in your opinion which camera was better overall?

I prefer the Note 8 camera. Mostly because of two things. The draw(right iteration here?) distance for photos is amazing for the Colorado mountains where I live. And also the up close shots are very crisp and clear. I am able to take up close photos of serial numbers for verification emails at work, broken parts where I need to show fine detail and such.
As far as the pen goes, all it takes is finding a reason to use it or just messing around with drawing a bit. I have come to find that my wife really likes my cheesy Live Messages that I draw her, and my daughter stays entertained while we are running errands(rugged phone case). My wife always grabs my phone when we do groceries because of the ease of it, and she's able to make recipes on the fly in Samsung Notes and include clip arts of the photos she just took. Yeah, she uses it more than I do sometimes but I'm not about to drop another $1k on a phone for her.

Appreciate your feedback really helps alot with my decision. For my business i need the best camera and in most reviews i heard the pixel was the best but the Note 8 is a great camera as well. And youre right the productivity of the Note is unmatched. My best bet is to keep the Note 8 and flash a pixel like rom to clean up alot of bloat and speed up the Note a bit. The note has the best looking screen as well and i dont want to lose that beautiful screen.

I used debloat my devices such as this one. But I have come to find that I use the Samsung apps more than the stock Google ones with the exception of Drive or Sheets. Everything else I use works better because of the Pen.
So I currently have an S8 and I'm looking at either the Note 8 or Pixel 2 XL, both appear to be great devices and I'm really torn on which to choose at the moment! The Pixel 2 XL will cost me £10 a month more than the Note with my current provider in the UK, so it's just me deciding which to go for....
I love the S8 and have owned it for 3 months, been running Oreo beta too, which is pretty decent, the only thing is I get lag at times anything from small to large and I'm not sure if it's the BixbyRemap causing it.
Between the two I prefer the Pixel 2XL for:
Slightly smaller, Note 8 looks huge and 1 handed use will be difficult.
Software, although Note 8 has 6Gb RAM I still hear it lags??
Note 8:
Better screen, I love my S8's screen so this is better.
SD card support, 128gb is a lot on the P2XL it's just not expandable
Draw:
Camera, both have great camera's, Note has 2x optical with live focus where the P2XL has portrait mode...
Dam this decision is so hard, any opinions on the above?
Thanks!

Yea i think i will stick w the Note 8 for now unless the pixel XL 2 drops vastly in price.
Screen
Camera
Battery
That's my decision order. Makes keeping the Note very easy

The note 8 is the exact same footprint as the XL 1 with just a half inch more in height. So size difference in negligible IMO.
As for Lag, I have experienced absolutely none. I have been very impressed with touchwiz on the note 8. I only got this phone because of the BOGO deal, i was gonna hold on to my XL for another year but my wife wanted a new phone so I had to capitalize. I wasn't expecting to enjoy a Samsung phone this much. It's a beast that can handle anything thrown at it. It ranks #4 in the highest futuremark test that I ran.
I also am blown away by the speed and quality of the camera. And this screen is absolutely Amazing!
Really the only advantage I think Google has this year is the monthly updates. To me those updates are nice, but not a selling point.

Thanks for your opinions, exactly what I was after!
I think you are spot on the Pixel has the advantage of the updates, however, Samsung Experience is much better than TouchWiz was as Samsung has brought it a lot of features into their software that Google didn't have, it's mainly Google copying Samsung these days I find!
I really like the 2x zoom the Note has, however, the portrait mode seems better on the Pixel, from what I've seen on real-life videos.
Choices, choices!!
I have both and here is my take.
The P2XL is lighter and thinner but just a bit wider and it makes it uncomfortable for me to hold (small hands.) I find the note easier to use one handed. The battery life on the pixel is not that great, it drains quickly and gets warm when using the camera. The camera stinks! I really have no idea why everyone is claiming the camera to be amazing. I get better pics from my P1XL and the note 8. Every shot I take is grainy and lacks sharpness. Yes, stock android is better than the sammy skin but I have experienced no lag on my N8 and I like the fact that it auto adds extensions to call in meetings as I am on the road a ton. I am selling my P2XL and keeping the N8. I find it to be a far superior product.
I've been down this road quite a few times myself and in the end the Note 8 won. The Pixel2 XL has way too many hardware and software issues that I want to gamble with. I returned a total of five 2 XL's for various reasons and one Pixel 2 because the screen had a horrible reddish brown tint to it. The cameras are equal in the 200 + photos I took with the 2 XL and Note 8., they both have their pros and cons. The Note has been running great for me and my son. Battery life is great, the display is the best and the software runs nice and smooth. What else can I really ask for? My biggest complaint is the added length to the Note because it sticks out of my top coat pocket where I like to keep my phone. Other than that I'm thrilled with it. When I start doubting my decision I go here and my doubt is removed.

Thanks for your thoughts!
I've read that about the Pixel 2 being wider making it uncomfortable when holding, which tbh my S8 is great because it's not very wide, so I was thinking that would be the same with the N8 so it's great to hear I was on right track. So even though it's got a bigger battery than the N8 would you say they are on par? My S8 can be great sometimes, however, it also can be crap! :-/
There's so many mixed reviews/opinions about the camera I don't know what to believe, so it's good to hear it's not all roses with the Pixel!
I'm still swaying towards the Note 8!
I feel the battery on the note 8 is a little better. Like I said, I see the battery draining faster on the 2XL. And I would certainly be using the S8 if it had 6gb ram and the dual cameras. The N8 is not easy to use one handed but it's easier than the pixel. I actually prefer the more natural look to the XL2's screen but I know I'm in the minority on that one. The screen does have a nasty blue tint when angled even slightly though. And you can always load up the 2XL camera and use it on the note. I was so excited for the 2XL as I have always been a stock android fan boy but google got it wrong this time, the phone is sub par.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing across the net, too many issues out there for a premium device imo! It's a shame really as the Pixel 2 XL has so much potential! Thanks for the link, that's a great link to share!!

came for the nexus series, to change for the pixel, once they announced the google pixel 2 XL i was so excited, then i sold my Pixel Xl, for the pixel 2 XL, unfortunately in my country was only available the 15th of November, i had to buy a new device to take time....and i purchased the NOTE 8 for a great price, had it for a couple of week, when finally i've got my hands on the Pixel 2 XL... and that i realized...no waterproof, no 3.5 jack, no wireless charge, no DEX, no connection out from the box with my TV, no face unlock, no dual sim,no SD, no ,no, no for what 939.00€!!!!!!!
the feeling was like having an old phone in my hands compared with note 8, finally a send it back after 24h.
For me it is very disappointing because i loved the nexus series and the pixel xl, but i have to admit that, my last Samsung phone was galaxy S2, NOTE 8 seems to be alien technology compared with this year overpriced pixel.
Looking forward for the Pixel 3 though...

Yeah a lot of people don't realize what they lose when they go to the Google Experience. I had to make that very tough decision when we had to switch to Project Fi to save money in a financial crap time. I almost cried when I sold my Note 5!!! Then came Xfinity!??
Hi Neighbors,
In fact I used all of them. Which one would you choose ?
iphone 12 pro $1060
S21ultra+two case+watch3 45 mm $1231
Pixel 5 $650 or something like that
which one would you buy?
when in doubt i always decide based on > saves money, and moddable when i get bored.
which option do you think fits that description?
your choice in the end though.

Definitely Pixel 5, too much of a fan of the form factor. The iPhone is really pricy I'm not ready to pay that much, S21 is the same. I think I will never pay 1000$ for a phone, as much as I love that, they're just not worth 1 month of hard labor (espacially frickin samsungs that won't receive updates ever again).
I mean pixel little slow. But money saver great ui exprience a to z
iphone is basic but consistly good performance and good sell value
samsung just so many freebies
Ads on ui
Poor cam performance
No voice mail on us version

Exactly Thats my only concern thats why iphone 12 pro more handy than pixel 5 1’ bigger ant thicker frame
I end up ordering pixel 5 best buy open box excellent condition for $650 tax included.
Thank you neighbors it is too much $1200 for phone.
I own the pixel 5 and honestly, it is a decent phone but I would not say it is a great phone. The camera is decent but not a show stopper in my opinion. It is very affordable - and can be customized and rooted pretty easily, but frankly to my mind, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the phone to get. Samsung consistently puts out the best phones with awesome cameras. It comes with a higher price but then you get what you pay for.
As for Apple - I personally do not like the Apple experience and will never buy an apple device. Just not for me. You have to make your own mind up based on what is most important to you. Best of luck.

I was lookin ay my Pre-Order on Samsung.com and noticed that the delivery date for the device has changed - originally after buying it, Samsung posted a delivery Date of 1/27. Today, when I looked at the order it has changed to an expected delivery date of 1/29. I know it is only two more days, but I had my hopes up it would come early. Not sure why it changed - hope it still comes as they originally said.... anyone else see a shipping date change for their Samsung Pre-Order?

so you'd never pay more than 1000 bucks on a phone yet you're asking people to tell you which phone to choose from 3 - where 2 are way more than 1000+

This is for those that have the current pixel 5. Now that the specifications for the pixel 6 have been released, are you thinking of getting it or keeping the existing pixel 5?
I'm not a fan of the larger size of the pixel 6. Also if the rumor price of $999 for the pixel 6 vs $699 for the pixel 5 is true that's way too much.
The free Google photo storage also is over as well.
I've gotten ever new Google phone since the nexus 6 and pixel 1 but the new pixel 6 may be the first one I pass on. I also have 5g already
If I update phones, I will be passing on the Pixel 6 I believe.
I finally ordered the Pixel 5 and got it back in May. My LG G7 One will likely lose security updates around October, & I got to thinking about chip shortages and the inevitable price increase that brings. I had the money saved, so I bought direct from Google. I wanted to experience the Pixel "special sauce" with their cameras at least once.
The other reason is live transcription. I'm hard of hearing so if I can have another tool in my pocket to use along with Bluetooth enabled hearing aids, I thought why not? Having just invested all that money on the 5? I will observe from afar how well the 6 does, maybe I'll get to try one?

I did a search for phone with a display of 6.1 and below with a body of 150mm height max. The P5 is 144.7 or 5.7" and 150 is just under 6". There are only 4 of them currently 3 of which are iPhones. The iPhone 12 Pro (and the new iPhone 13) are both 146.7 or 5.77". Price will be the same pretty much as the P6. I'm sure I can get $450 off on Black Friday and so...
The only time I had an iPhone is when my son cracked the bottom of his and couldn't get a decent trade-in. I used it on my second line for about 6 months and I was not overly impressed with the OS or damn near anything about it. But the size is right, the display is magnificent, and the battery lasts as good as anything I've seen. I think that Apple might want to market the 13 Pro to the Android crowd come BF. There are a lot of folks rebelling on Reddit regarding the larger size only and even 9to5 said this was a good move by Google to abandon the smaller footprint.
I don't know... I don't root any longer and haven't in 4 years or so since I bootlocked the 5X. Someone talk me down.

What if Google is going to be smart about it & let this year's Pixel 6 & Pro be "the big ones" & next year we'll see another #Pixel5 sized follow up, the #Pixel6a ?
I think that might be a little too late. Those that want a smaller device will have left the fold. They made their bed now they sleep in it. I know a lot of people are happy and a lot of people not so much. But business is business and the bottom line is how much money do they make. I'm looking elsewhere, we shall see.
Same. Won't be Apple, unless it's a second device. Never know.
But I am sad that Google went this route.
I'd like a phone.
Not a Phablet.

But I am sad that Google went this route.
I'd like a phone.
Not a Phablet.

I know what you mean about Apple. I'm so invested in Android too. I haven't rooted in years and could still do it with my eyes closed. I'm really bummed.

It really is unfortunate.
I've been a loyal HTC fan since my first smart phone, HTC Eris. Followed by many others, Inc1, Inc2, Inc4, Rezound, Thunderbolt, M7, M8, M9, 10, and pixel 5, considering Google bought up half of the HTC team.
So naturally the Pixel 6 was a big excitement for me.
I suppose maybe I'll consider an older device, like Samsung depending on what they have going on. I do like my brothers S21.

I just checked and I still have my Eris in the drawer. There was one after that slightly larger, forgot the name. I have every one still including the Thunderbolt, the Nexus and everything in between, and all work except for the S4 which got sort of blown up when the battery exploded. It still turns on and is still rootable since I didn't flash the firmware that disabled root. Lol. But did you root the Eris and over clock it to 750hz like I did?
The S21 didn't sell well and is 6" body so just wondering what kind of ongoing support it will have. Samsung is trending toward 6.2 and larger. That being said, the P6 is about 1/2 inch larger than the P5 (6.3 vs 5.7.. hmm that's .6") so I'm wondering what it will feel like. If they thin it out substantially it might be doable but it's not an automatic purchase like it would have been at 6" or below. Their reasoning is seems is people are using their devices as full entertainment and lifestyle options and not just for checking the occasional email and text. But like you, it's taken the thrill of the release out for me.

Dang bro! That's impressive. I really wish I had kept a few of my favorites! Especially the Eris. Eris is how I got to being on XDA. I wanted Android 2.1, and like a few, ended up flashing a leaked image and was stuck on it and couldn't roll back, and had to wait for the official and deal with the bugs. But that was how I got into rooting/theming/modding, and pumped that baby up to 750hz as well, and been here ever since!
Testing S-OFF for the Rezound with the "paper-clip trick" was interesting!
Man, the S4 as well. I had the S3 and S4, and ended up selling my S4 with the rootable software that I kept like yourself. After I sold the S4, it ofc because really sought after, and I almost re-bought it but couldn't justify the price on Swappa. Incredible 2 and M7 were a few other favorites. I do still have my M8 and 10 but the 10s battery is donso, making it a non-used attached to the walla MP3 player.
Good points about the S21, and it is a bit large, and def. heavy compared to the P5. I think my main reasoning for mentioning it is because I really wanted to try Samsung again since the S4. I actually bought the S20 International version, and was close to paying for Bootloader unlock, but then I found out that I wouldn't get 5g on Verizon. Though, from my understanding I would of been getting low-band 5g, but can't say. But I haven't seen 5g on my P5 in my area yet.. lol
I'm hoping like you that Google slimmed things down enough to make that .6" not such a huge difference. But as you said, normally it would be an almost automatic purchase. I'd possibly sell my M8, and probably keep the P5, and grab the P6.
Having a hard time reading that font @andybones sorry. What I did today was go into a Costco with my P5 and line it up with all the phones out now.. Everything is big. The only thing that was comparable was the 12 Pro but it was definitely thicker. If you have time or the desire check out the phone sizes it's eye opening.
Anyways here is a blast from the past..

Sorry my friend, let me try a different shade of Purple, if not I'll go back to Green.
(I deleted you post above this, as it was just a quote of my post, I'm guessing due to my color choice)
P.S. is this purple shade any better?
Man that really is a blast from the past! Too awesome! SetCPU!
I'm still using Root Explorer, love it.
Unless you or any others have another suggestion.
I will try and get to a BestBuy/Walmart/Verizon, etc and check out the devices. It's very unfortunate to hear this. :-(
I'll use this green if the Purple is too much of a pain.

On the computer purple is ok but with the dark theme on the phone it's hard to read. Green is much better. I still use root explorer too, I haven't found anything better. I opened setcpu just now and changed the speed from 750mHz to 862 and crashed the Eris. Forgot how nice it is to be able to just pull the battery and reset the device. It has a 3.2" display with a 4.5" body. Tiny little thing that still works on wifi. I also just fired up the other small device and found it to be an HTC Incredible. No OS on that one but it does take me to recovery fine where I can flash a rom if I needed. It's fun revisiting this stuff.
I actually didn't see anything other than the iPhone mini that was as small or smaller than the P5. I'm assuming that the display size is measured diagonally and the body of the device a separate measurement. The 6.1" displays aren't too bad if they go full body so that's why I'm thinking it might be possible depending on how much bezel there is. But after you go to a store let me know what you think. I literally took out my P5 and measured them side by side. But the guy there was kind of creepy and hovered over me so I'll do it again at another store later this week.
Pixel phones are 5G locked outside target markets... Because I like to keep up with the last technology, I'll move away from the Pixel line so that I can use 5G on Brazilian operators. I'll miss the camera though.
I'm not sure, what the pixel 5 has taught me is I really don't need a top tier phone and am perfectly fine with middle of the road. Honestly, that thinking has opened up the market for me.

I feel the same. As long as it would have an amazing camera.
@andybones Are you by any chance watching the Apple presentation? Slick as can be. Google has their work cut out for the P6 release. 6.1" iPhone 13 Pro. Just sayin'. lol No pricing as of yet. No touch id only face, not thrilled about that.
edit: Pro $999 base- Pro Max $1099 Available on Sept 24th. I'll wait until the P6 drops
The Pixel 5a looks like it would be a great phone for my needs, but the pixel 6a will be coming out in May (probably) and I don't need a new phone until later in the year. What's your thoughts? Go for the 5a, or wait for the 6a?
my wife has the 5A and loves the battery life, almost 2 days, no issues. and the camera is very nice. This prompted me to try the 6 Pro. And I am very happy. I guess it comes down to features that you desire. once you know what you want, look to see which platform offers you the best bang for your buck. I am using the Pixel Pass and think its an awesome way to purchase aphone with Google. Saved me a few bucks a month since I didnt have to pay the higher cost of the add-ons singularly.
Both phones would be fine for my needs. I'm wondering if the 5a and 6a will be as supported as the reg. 6 or 6pro - as for as XDA help, custom roms, etc.
Any thoughts?

I think just as mich as say, the Pixel 5..
If the 6a isn't to my likeing, which I'm sure it won't, I'l be grabbing the 5a.. My back camera glass is cracked on the 5, it's not really worth the $100-$150 to fix,, considering the 4a/5a prices.. I like to have a backup device incase I ever decide to build a test ROM. I came from Anroid 7 to Android 11. Won't make the mistake of holding off again.
I LOVE my Pixel 5. I know I'll like the 5a. I'm hoping the 6a has everything ironed out, as I really hate Android 12.
I have had the 5a since December. Did the trade in program since Google was offering generous trade in values ar the time. Coming from P3XL it's a nice upgrade. I paid 329.00 after trade in. The Battery life is amazing. I charge it about every 3 days. Camera is good but doesn't seem any better then my P3XL. Phone reception during calls does seem to be improved. Overall very happy with it.
I guess it also depends on what you think of the Pixel 6, and how closely they will resemble each other.
I personally hate the design and think the 5a is a better looking device.
We'll see!
Yes, I do wish that the fingerprint sensor was on the back

Agree, my colleagues sold me 5a for newly 6 and he regret of the design and outlook.
Battery life blows I don't know how people are getting 2-3 days worth. I barely get a day with moderate use. I'm likely getting the OnePlus 10 when it comes out in the US.
Are you willing to spend as much or a little more on the new Google Pixel 7, which seems to be an excellent smartphone?
If you want to know more about the Google Pixel 7 serie, go to read HERE
Last year I preordered a Pixel 6. I was so hyped. New design, new SoC, stock Android, great camera. And then I got the device and there was problems with the screen, I had the accessibility service freeze bug and Google did nothing to fix it for months. I sent the device to RMA 2 times. Updates were delayed, more bugs came. It was a mess so I sold the device and made financial loss.
I dislike the fact that they made the display for the Pixel 7 smaller than the one of the Pixel 6, and I dislike curved edges on the pro version. Curved display edges are a stupid useless feature - it's no good for haptics and IMO it's marketing crap plus good screen protectors are either hard to find or expensive for them.
So maybe I'm gonna buy a Pixel 7. Maybe not. Right now I got a Realme GT 2 Pro and it's like the OnePlus device I always wanted, but the camera is not that good and it's missing the alert slider. BBK Electronics is not really cool and what they done to OnePlus and Oxygen OS is bad. Having a Pixel with Vanilla Android again would be nice. And the cameras are always very good on Pixels. I love that.
Let's see how much they will cost here in Germany. Maybe I'll gift one to myself for christmas. But I'll wait... not gonna preorder again. I've learned.
The "expected" differences/upgrades on the 7 PRO are not awe inspiring to me IMO (since the 6 PRO received a lot of upgrades from previous Pixels) coupled with the idea of spending $900 for minimal, or unimportant to me upgrades just doesn't make sense for my needs.
I'll wait for the 8 Pro

I had a Pixel 2XL and until then I never kept a device as long as I kept that one. It was great (and I used to build a ROM for it / not cooking tho, just building).
I'm planning to get the Pixel 7 and I think this could be a great phone and a competition to iPhone 14 series!
Not at that size. Way too big for me. I learned after I got the P6 that I'd never buy anything larger than my 6a. 7a is a distinct possibility though.
I'm in a watch and wait attitude for now....

It might come within striking distance of the 14 and 14 Plus with their older SoCs (keeping in mind the Tensor G2 leaked performance puts it between a Snapdragon 870 and 888, nowhere near current flagship performance and current flagships can't even match the A15) but there is no chance it can come even remotely close to the Pros except in camera and charging speed (if Google chooses to increase it, I am betting it's the same 21~23W as last year). If Apple had gone to USB-C and introduced true fast charging this year I would have switched to the 14 Pro Max because I'm so tired of the random lags, overheating, battery drain, and gaming performance issues my OnePlus 9 has while my 2 year old 12 Pro Max still runs everything I have tried effortlessly. Like it's always funny watching these "speed test" videos that just test app launching speed and nothing else. Apple's optimization is next level.

Yeah, and it feels like the software giant is least interested in their own software.
I have a Pixel 7 in my plans. I currently have Oneplus 6t for 4 years. I wanted a new Oneplus but they are big. I'm waiting for the premiere.
I have a Pixel 6 and happy with it, but miss the telephoto capability. But my 6 is only a year old, so unlikely to rush - maybe wait for a deal and see how stable folk report it to be. Seems silly to invest in a 6 Pro, when a 7 Pro would get me an extra year's updates and by the sounds of it a slightly stronger telephoto capability.... Camera quality/capability is key for me.
No, unless they stop using samsung-made tensor chips.
Tensor is fine. The long term software support is also fine.
What maynot be fine is a no so Pro SoC in the long run.
- Just my thought.
I am happy with my P6.
5G data and up to date software for buying the P6. I do not really see anything that tickles me for me to get the P7.
It's time for me to upgrade. My Pixel 3 XL is starting to have issues with the front camera, and the power button. It still runs great, but I don't want to chance some showstopper stopping me from using it soon, so I ordered a Pixel 7 yesterday. Should be a nice upgrade.
My P5 is wonderful.
But I am pre-, ordering the P7!
It just looks terrific. I only wish hazel/gold was available in P7. But I'll settle for either Snow or lemongrass. Once I decide I'll order.
I'm ready for the Pixel 7 Pro, should be a decent upgrade over my 3 and 4 XL's. I know I"m going to miss some of the features that I've grown accustomed to over the last few years (Squeeze and Face Unlock) mostly.
I'm sure I will adapt, though

The Pixel 7 and 7pro both have face unlock
I believe it's only for phone unlock not biometric auth for apps though.
