Not sure if this has already been asked. But I'm wondering if it would be possible to mod the stock infotainment system that comes in my KIA stinger. I have seen videos of people with civics who have modded the intro screen and such. Anyone have any ideas on this? Or can point me in the right direction?

You used to be able to get in to engineering mode on some kia/hyundai head units and install any android app but its very risky. Engineering mode has lots of toggles too, but also risky. There's not much worth doing there on a stinger IMO.
Honestly I use a rooted device with "AA AIO Tweaker" and "Extras for AA" and just rock the modded Android auto. WIdescreen, screen mirroring, and "fermata media player" do anything I need the head unit to do.

That actually sounds very interesting. What is "AA AIO Tweaker"? Do you have some links for these? Really I just want to add a custom intro scene to the Stinger when I start it up.

You'll find AA AIO Tweaker in this very forum about 2 posts up. It won't change the startup screen, this likely isn't possible.

I was disappointed, but not surprised to see that functions for dropping internal rendering and only render to the external screen were in-built into the media-player on the lg. I mean, having an overlay where you could switch context would have been just too easy, after all.
But is there a way to turn off the internal rendering and only render to hdmi? Since android has a composite manager on it's own, it seems strange it shouldn't be just a simply command for it, that would leave the phone context inactive, and the rendering context on hdmi. In the same way the media player works.
I.e., if playing netflix, you would just pick the source for the viewport, and leave the program just serving (while the view on the phone is inactive). Same with games.
Think it's possible to do that in an overlay? Or is it necessary to do it individually for each program. Or, more likely, that it's something that has to be implemented in Android at some point..?
I wonder how do you bring that content back to o4x to control the phone

I believe you can do that thru the secret menu. Dial 3845#*880# and go to HDMI settings and choose whether you want full phone mirroring or use as an extension of your screen so you can still use your phone to do whatever.

i know this is an old post i am responding to, but having searched all over i cannot find any update on the possibility of gaining a full 'mirror' display on my 4x hd.
did you have any luck getting the options on the 'hidden menu' to stick? it was the first thing i tried, but as stated no options stick once selected (i assumed it was going to be simple when i saw the option for 'full mirror' on the menu).
i have tried changing the options on 'hidden menu' pre and post root, to no avail. im gutted to find that this phone dosnt support 'full mirror' on the hdmi out, usb otg :crying:
if anyone knows how to do this on my rooted 4x hd PLEASE HELP!
cheers in advance!

i search on the Play store but i don't find what i need.

Samsung devices can do this via SideSync. I went out of my way to get a phone and tablet so I could use the mirror/remote call/file transfer functionality. Recently LG copied this, so if you have an LG phone and tablet you may also be in luck.
You should probably check the list of devices that support the Chromecast, or consider MHL for output of your phone to a television via an adapter cable.

After long search i think that it's not possible to mirror All the screen of the phone to another android device beacause
it's should be a protocol like ,DLNA or Miracast ... wich is possible with a dongle wifi display.
but i found two applications wich allow us to share content between devices:
1_ the first aplication is Screenshare:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.springdesign.screenshare.browser.server
2_The seconde application is EZcast screeen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.actionsmicro.ezcastrx
you can watch the video to know how it works
If both devices are rooted you can get full Chromecast functionality (well, mostly. a few things like Netflix don't and likely will never work) using the Cast receiver port that's on this board along with the Xposed module to disable the signature date check on the device that's sending the Cast, works for me.
Thank you but i don't understand very well
can you please explain what shoul i do step by step?

I can recommend to use my app Screen Stream Mirroring  , here is the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobzapp.screenstream.trial
I recommend it not only because I am the developer, but because the app was initially made for this.
You can use VLC for Android as receiver or any other RTSP player.
I will also release very soon a player for Android with good additional features.
Just ask if you have any question.
How it works?? there is no instructions!
please explain step by step what i should do?
Download allcast receiver to your tablet and allcast to your phone.
vnc method (root)
Try droid vnc server from the play store(this requires root access) on the device you want to mirror and get a vnc viewer on the device that you want to connect to the vnc server and this will mirror your screen

If you have a quite recent Android version it should use hardware encoding so you should be able to stream any game... up to 60fps since Android 4.4.
You can check in app preferences if hardware encoding is enabled.

I was going to try your app, but the reviews on Playstore are dismal. Possibly the most negative reviews I've ever seen for an app. So I won't bother, because as in most apps, there are dozens more.
You really should consider trashing the app, fixing it (apparently you have an insane number of ads in the free version) and re-releasing it under a different title. Word of mouth, or in this case, thumbs is everything in the dev world.

Hi guys.
As I have mentioned it before I have started working on a YouTube Player for Android Auto, but since I'm not a big youtuber myself I will like to get some input from you guys on how this should app work.
My thought till now are:
1) When you are outside Android Auto, you will need to open the app, give permission to access your content and sync your playlists to the app.
2) When in Android Auto, the media player will contain entries for each PlayList and all the items of a playlist will be listed as subitems. This part will work as any other media app.
3) Video playback, this will be on the fifth tab, same menu structure, but it will also display video, of course only when the car is stopped, other than that video playback will be disabled.
4) Provide search for individual songs.
- Is there any other way you usually use Youtube beside created playlists, if yes please tell me so I can understand what should I build.
Sync before use - Why is it needed?
- To be able to use the YouTube API which gives me access to your playlist and content I need to create a developer API. The API is limited to 1.000.000 trade units per day, every query has it's own unit value (not necessarily 1) so if I don't sync the playlist and use a fetch as needed approach, I will risk to run out of trade units when the user base grows bigger.
Any comments suggestions are welcomed.
Hello, I am very interested in this application.
It would be very useful if you could choose the quality of the video.

Local players do exist for audio, and it's easy to create an app for AA for them, but YouTube is more problematic, and yeah it's a bit against youtube policy because you shouldn't have sound without video, so officially that app will never be created (maybe with youtube red).
However this project did not receive too much attention so it's on a backburner at the moment, probably till end of November.

Ahh, Ok! You think in audio only YouTube player.
I hope someone will start to develop a Xposed module that "rewrites" the MainActivity of any selected App and add AA support on-the-fly! This will be more similar to MirrorLink (not supported in a lot of devices).

Hi all here,
I am the author of what's called an unofficial Android Auto SDK, a piece of software
which allows creating custom Android Auto apps.
Because the poster of the previous message used this SDK, I believe it's
important that I quote my statement about video-in-motion AA apps from

Dear all,
it is a good moment to say my final word specifically about the kind of apps
which allow playing videos on the head unit.
I think these don't need much comment:
It's ok to have a movie together on a great trip in middle of nowhere, when stopped.
It's not ok to watch a movie while driving. It doesn't need any comment.
It's totally ok for the passenger to watch a movie on his/her own device.
It's not ok for a passenger to watch a movie on a display in front of the driver.
It's ok to show off how a wonderful head unit I have which can play YT, but not while driving.
It's not ok to watch a movie while driving just to do a forbidden thing.
There's no "it's ok" scenario here for playing movies while in motion. Please share if you
know some. I'm pretty sure these are very uncommon or borderline ok.
Those "it's not ok" may be tempting. Because the driver may be bored, pissed off,
deny the danger of driving distracted, willing to show off, overestimate his/her skills,
name your reason.
Words displayed in the dash or written on a website or anywhere else would rarely
prevent it.
It's not that if movies are not possible in these cases, the driver will definitely do
something else stupid, like playing the video on the phone itself or become even more
angry and aggressive on road.
I want to say that clearly: I believe no apps should allow playing videos on the
car display while the car is in motion. Period.
I ask all here to not write such apps and not promote and talk about them here.
Instead of supporting those who create these apps just to satisfy popular demand of
doing a forbidden thing, please support those who actually care about creatively
and carefully designing the apps to be useful and which assertively, yet nicely
prevent being used in a stupid way.

martoreto

Youtube auto Android auto
Hello everybody.
For some time now I have the new Chromecast with Google TV and I would like to share my feelings on certain aspects that disappointed me and which scare me for the future of Android TV.
Android TV has always been a more closed system than Android but I have the impression with this new device that it is even more the case and that Google is trying to lock its system even more.
On the new device, if you want to install applications that are not on the play store, you must activate the options for developers, then start again several times to install these applications (it does not necessarily work the first time ).
I also noticed that a lot of Android apps didn't do image rotation or stretching and displayed vertically like a smartphone but with parts of the image cut off. Some Android apps are therefore not even usable now on the new Chromecast. I searched this new Chromecast for a setting that would help me display its Android apps properly but couldn't find anything.
Is there a setting to properly display its applications there? Are these only corrections that will be made in the next updates or is it, as I think, a desire by Google to limit Android TV more and more to Android TV applications?
Thank you for your many responses.
The orientation issue may have something to do with how the Android TV device is identifying itself. That could get fixed in a new release. Haven't dug in enough to know that yet. I haven't had any trouble installing stuff via side loading.
As for being locked down, Android TV certified devices are way more locked down than AOSP or even phones. I wish they'd put the Android TV portions (or even just the casting stack) into AOSP, but that ship has long sailed.

ok so you had no problem with Android applications. I may have had no luck with apps that started badly. Perhaps it is not Google's desire to prevent or complicate the use of applications that are not from the Android TV Play Store.
We will see if other users have this problem.
I too would have loved to have the cast on Android box.
Do you know of an application that allows you to rotate the image like you can find in the Ugoos box system?
From what I can tell, it is just as open** as my Nvidia Shield. Installing sideloaded apps is just as simple. Apps that do not have manual rotation options can be tricky, or those coded to be used in portrait mode only. Other than that, sideloading works identically. PS, you still need something like Sideload Launcher to launch these sideloaded apps.
Android TV/Google TV has always been very limited when it comes to customizability. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that Google assumed, and rightly so that, most consumers just want to plug it in and watch stuff, not mess around with it. Do I agree with that? No, I love making devices do things they weren't designed to, but even I have no reason or motivation to root these devices.
** = Equally as locked down.
Have you tried using a sceen rotation app? I use to use a modded spectrum tv app on fire tv and to fix rotation issue you had to use a screen rotation app.

I feel your pain.
That's Google 2020 for you, get ready for Google 2021 and 2022
I am thinking of replacing a fire tv stick 4k with the new Chromecast, hoping to gain bitstreaming audio from 3d party apps. It won't work for me on the amazon device.
I want to continue using wolf launcher and some sideloaded apps, which are not all available on the play store.
How much of free storage is available on the Cromecast?
Hey folks
I bought a Chromecast with Google TV and I am experiencing this same issue. I am trying to use an app which I know it wasn't developed for this device, but I know it works because have it installed on an Android TV. The difference is that on Google TV it opens as portrait and sits in the middle of the screen, where in the Android TV it expands and takes the whole screen. Same thing happens, for example, with Instagram. I've tried a dozen of apps that supposedly force the orientation, but it never worked.
Is there anything that can be done or am I am chasing ghosts?
(p.s. is it worth to post this as a new thread?)
I have 1,000 CDs that I've ripped to my PC as WAV. They are basically all of the rock genre (Classic, hard rock, heavy metal, nu metal, 90s grunge, etc.), and because of that, I prefer lossless. I've tagged all of them to the Discogs database, using Foobar2000.
I use this same collection on my PC and also copied to the MicroSD of my Note 9, which I connect to my Kenwood DMX907S head unit through Wireless Android Auto.
The objective is to create several playlists based on tags. Also, I want to be able to normalize the sound, so that regardless of the quality of the recording, all tracks are equally as loud at their highest points within the tracks. For playing on PC, this can be easily done, using Foobar2000. From what I understand, there is an Android App for Foobar2000, but it was not nearly as developed as the PC version and therefore cannot create playlists based on the type of tags I'm looking to utilize.
Tags include:
Genre
Artist
Album
Date Added to Library
Possibly other custom tags (for instance, Live or Studio / Original or Cover)
Are there any Android Auto compatible music apps out there that can create these types of playlists using local files, such that they're compatible with Android Auto? ...AND can manage the sound levels as needed?
I use Bubble upnp as I also use it to cast. Give it a look to see if it does everything you are interested in.

I added that app and am currently trying it. I'm noticing that all artists are listed as <Unknown>. Is this because when tagging, I used the %artist% tag instead of %album artist% ? Is there a way to adjust this in the app?
I had some rips that didn't read correctly and ended up using MP3TAG on my PC to fix their metadata. I rip all my CDs to FLAC with EAC, and generally it just works, so I can't be of much help.
Although BubbleUPNP is an excellent DLNA media player, it doesn't support Android Auto and there are no plans to include it anytime soon (I requested the dev for this feature to be added and was told it was basically impossible unless the whole app was rewritten from scratch. That was a couple of years ago now, and unfortunately nothing's changed since).
For local music playback, I'm using 'Oto Music' from the Play Store. It's a very well designed music player with Replay Gain and full AA support, although I'm not too sure if regarding your playlists it could be what you're looking for... In any event, it's a free app and constantly gets upgrades and new features.
Now you got me wondering. I use BubbleUPNP in the car all the time, but possibly only from my tablet via bluetooth. I thought it also worked from my phone via AA... I'll have to re-check that.
