Has anybody found out any information where we could maybe flash existing touchscreen headunits to be able to interact with Android Auto?
I have a Pioneer double din touchscreen headunit that has a USB port for data connections. Rather than spending $1,400 on another headunit with useless applications on it just so that I can never use them because I'll be using Android Auto is complete overkill. I'd much rather stick with what I have and flash a firmware onto it so that I can just plug my phone in and have the same user experience and integration that the new headunits are having.
I wish Android Auto development was open and accessible just like everything else Android.
Are all Android-based aftermarket players Android Auto compatible?
Such as these: www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Android+Double+din+DAB
Or do they need to have specific criteria?

No. These after market headunits have the full Android OS installed. Android Auto is based off of Android, but does not have the same features and functionality of a full Android install. Android Auto also requires you to connect your phone to the headunit via Bluetooth or through a tethered connection (USB cable). However, in the Play Store, there is an app called AutoMate, which works exactly (almost) like Android Auto. You don't even need to connect your phone to the headunit in order for it work!

I drive a Porsche 718 Spyder with Apple Carplay, my Porsche has no android Auto, but my mobile phone is an Android Samsung S21 plus, I get a wireless adapter for my car, just need to download android auto on my phone, then I can make my 718 have wireless android auto, I have been troubled by this problem before, if there are brothers who are troubled by the same, the AA adapter is worth it. just recommend.

I had a chance to get one. Works great!
Good to know. I decided against a BMW i3 and lack of Android Auto was the last straw that made my decision. I'm happy in a Smart EQ (only needed 2 seats) with AA.
Yes,what a coincidence, I have to say it's a really worthwhile adapter, I've been using it for almost two months and it does exactly what I need, my phone automatically connects every time I get in the car , I have to say it's really convenient, but I don't know why such a good site doesn't know about it, trust me this is the best value adapter I've found.

I have also a Porsche Spyder 718 wit Apple Carplay and i use also Samsung S21 plus. I bought the AA adapter
and it works good for the apps, but incoming and outgoing phone calls does not work through the speakers by bleutooth.
I mailed the company where i bought the device but i got
no answer.
Can anyone give me some advice. It seems that the PCM
does not work together with the AA device.
You can enable wired android auto in a porsche 718 yourself (even if it doesn't have carplay) using MIB solution. An SD card is all that's needed, no money.

Hi all!
I looked on the forums here and couldn't find anything about it... have you seen this carlinkit A2A adapter thing? Similar to Motorola MA1?
Seems like similar hardware as the Android headunits but on a dongle and then you connect it through USB and it streams via Android Auto. The usb seems to register that to the Android phones that it is a Android Auto device. the Android Auto UI apparently is stored and sent from the phone its self to the usb dongle and then sent to the android app. the app then sends touch and audio commands back to the usb dongle and then to the phone. I think it's interesting for folks like me with a traditional headunit with Android Auto/CarPlay to have full access to Android.
Does anyone knows about it? I guess we could have the same options as the headunits such as custom firmwares or maybe figuring out what software does that Android Auto integration and use it from an Android phone - getting full Android access...
