Unlocked my bootloader and then installed the Xiaomi MIUI 12 EU weekly ROM last week to my Chinese Mi 11 with no issues. So far so good, nice ROM!
Upgraded to MIUI 12 EU vMI11_21.3.24_v12-11 yesterday - again with no issues.
Thinking I'm on a roll.... I thought I'd have a go at rooting my phone and installed the "MI11_Magisk_Boot_for_Xiaomi.eu_21.2.25" img using fastboot. Downloaded from here: https://mifirm.net/downloadfile/51
My Mi 11 was then stuck in the Chinese recovery mode. Numerous reboots later I dirty reinstall MIUI 12 EU v21.3.24 and it still rebooted into recovery... Thought I'd done something stupid so left the phone unattended for ~30 minutes (in recovery mode) - and in my absense it rebooted itself and now seems to be OK. Boots OK now...
I now have installed the Magisk app but its status is 'N/A' when loaded. Passses SafetyNet check OK. Google Pay seems to be OK, but I haven't tested a NFC payment yet.
However a couple of banking apps have already dedected the phone is now rooted and refuse to open.
Unsure what I did wrong and must now admit my N00b status. The loss of banking apps is an unwelcome pain in this arse... Any suggestions/ideas to either get root 'working properly' or to unroot - without bricking my phone?
FYI - I'm not Chinese - I'm from UK. I bought the CN version from Wondamobile.
Thanks all for any advice!
Yeah you can't use a boot package for the 21.2.25 ROM on the 21.3.24.
You need to install the Magisk app, download the ROM, copy the boot.img file inside the images folder and put it on your phone, open the Magisk app, tap install, select "patch a file", patch the boot.img you just copied, copy the patched boot back on your computer and flash it through fastboot.

They can see installed apps, and Magisk is the one, that even unrooted, is detected by your banking apps.
If not truly rooted, you can remove this app. And then when you will be rooted, just use the hide app feature (it's being renamed + random package name) and also use Magisk Hide.

I have the latest hydrogen OS and unlocked bootloader , and i want to root my phone but i just wants to know if theres any other files I need to flash other than magisk.zip
Nope, just flash the latest magisk zip and it's done. But yes, you also have to install the Magisk Manager when you boot up after flashing the zip.
I installed the latest one that came out today and my phone took a crap! Phone became very laggy and would freeze and sometimes not even detect root. I had to restore my phone back to last weeks version.

Hm... Absolutely no issues on my OP3T, OOS 4.1.6 and Franco Kernel r25 with Magisk v13.1. Maybe you have a module causing issues (long shot, I know)?
No issues here with Open Beta 10, Stock Kernel, Magisk 13.1 and Manager 5.0.4.
Root is working, passes SafetyNet with all modules activated and properly hide root from my Banking App. All good!

Just Simple flash the Magisk v13.1 and install the latest magisk manager v5.0.4.
I feel you should flash magisk immediately, while flashing the ROM through custom recovery. Install magisk manager after first boot.
You can do a dirty flash without formatting anything to get rooted.

Hi,
I need some help
Today I successfully installed the newest stable Xiaomi.eu-ROM on my finally unlocked Mi8, using TWRP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-1110-t3869729
TWRP is working flawlessly, but I didn't succeed in making root with Magisk to work.
What I did:
- I booted into TWRP
- formatted data
- rebooted back into TWRP
- flashed DM-verity disabler from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
- flashed Magisk v18.0 right after from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
- wiped dalvik cache
- rebooted the phone
But everytime I did it, I didn't had root access (checked with Root Checker app) when the phone finally booted up to MIUI 10.1.2.0 (PEACNFI).
I even didn't have Magisk Manager showed up.
Can you tell me what I did wrong? I don't have a clue
Thanks a lot and best regards
Mischa
what does magisk manager tell you about your magisk installation status?
Strange thing...
After I rebooted the phone, there was no Magisk Manager nor the phone was rooted, what I checked with Root Checker app.
Then I used it a couple minutes before it became really laggy. My chosen theme disappeared back to stock theme, scrolling was nearly impossible and the screen went black.
I was not able to wake up the display again, so I held down the power button a couple seconds until the phone rebooted.
Now I saw that the Magisk Manager was installed, without me doing anything else than rebooting after the phone got unusable.
Weird, right? I read that there might be lags after installing Magisk, but that it's going to be like that was surprising.
Anyway, I have root now, TWRP works, Magisk v18 is installed. Now I only have to find some must-have-modules, e.g. like stereo-mod.
BTW, could it be that Netflix isn't working on rooted phones? I always get error 14 saying that the Netflix-service is not reachable even though I have internet connection.
hey dude i know this isnt a guide
but i followed your kind of direction after spending the whole afternoon and few hours in the evening to figure how to root this phone and finally it worked (so far)
thanks a lot my man
and i didnt even format after flashing twrp i hope it didnt **** up my phone
So i was minding my own business then i notice "Magisk Manager" have red dot notification on it's icon upon opening there's update for "Magisk Manager" app and "Magisk" itself... so i decided to first Install the "Magisk Manager" update and it went real smooth
but when i try to update Magisk itsaid "Magisk Manager is Dead. Love live the Magisk app" then it ask me for Method
"Select and Patch file" or "Direct Install" now at this point idk what to do. I have at least done 3x Magisk update installation already it never ask me this option also when i try download root checker on playstore itsaid im rooted i just want to update Magisk should i patch my stock boot.img again or what??
For me this has been the case all this time for Magisk updates - I get that choice, and I choose 'direct install'. This time also I chose the same - 'direct install'. It got installed and prompted me to reboot.

You can try going to the Magisk GitHub and download the app and install it through file manager and try updating again. I did that accidentally and had no issues installing.

Same here. Worked on Xiaomi Note 10 Pro (Tucana) with Android 10.
Did not work on Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G (Monet) with Android 11. (The phone booted into fastboot-mode, so I had to extract the original boot.img from an original ROM and flashed it via fastboot-command to get the phone back booting to system).

How do I flash a ROM from bootloader? I am on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (mido) and have the same issue. Device won't boot into anything except fastboot. I tried flashing recovery using fastboot flash recovery <reccovery>.img but it got stuck in bootloop again.

There isn't one, because there is no separate zip anymore:
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/releases/22000.html
Why?
I'm so confused.
I'm on Lineageos 17 on Oneplus 6
I used to install magisk with the zip and it went smoothly now I don't have the option anymore..
How can you do when you use OTA update?

Sorry, I skipped that part and when directly to the one saying you had to patch BOOT.IMG..
Many thanks
Didgeridoohan;
I understand that the 'Manager' now has become the 'App'. I also understand to just rename the '.apk' file to '.zip' to flash from an OTA update event. I also understand that the '.apk' now with this latest release has everything you need to install Magisk.
I have had Magisk already installed like this: https://ibb.co/gvPzDs7
So, after I updated, can I ask what do I do about the problem of 'update' indicating via the Magisk Home page on the App?
I mean now I have this: https://ibb.co/HXLCvLS
Just don't worry about it?
Thank-you for your help.

Magisk still consists of two parts, Magisk app and Magisk internals, they're now just distributed together.
What your screenshot shows is that you've now updated the app, but not yet the internals...
Do not update simply as the update is Device bricking.
Magisk 22.0 update killed phone will only boot into fastboot

I updated my magisk to version 22, and it looks ok, except for the bottom menu that disappeared, does anyone know where it went or is it a bug?
I have been using Magisk for two years on my device (Moto G5S Plus). Some time ago I did an upgrade of the Magisk Manager app, unfortunately not knowing I should have unhidden it first. From that moment when I started the app, it would immediately stop. Today I finally had the time to dive into the problem. I uninstalled the Magisk app, and from TWRP uninstalled Magisk.
And now I am trying to install Magisk v22.0. I have downloaded and installed the latest Magisk app. When I start it, it shows my device has a boot ramdisk.
I downloaded the stock boot.img to my device, selected Install from the Magisk card, keep options as they are (keep AVB 2.0/dm-verity: off, keep enforced encryption: on).
At the Method step I selected the downloaded boot.img. When I tap "Go" (or whatever it would say with an English UI), nothing happend. I waited several minutes without anything happening.
The UI is responsive. I can go back and do it all over again, with the same result.
Why doesn't the app patch the image?
Is there anything else I can or should do eliminate traces of the old hidden Magisk manager app (besides a full restore, because without Magisk no root, without root no Titanium backup)?

It doesn't necessary to patch boot image. I had same problem.
Just install magisk 22 with TWRP, reboot...open magisk and install it.
You are ready and rooted.
Thanks for your quick reply. Problem solved!
My phone died. When my phone dies I tend to lose root/Magisk... it just isn't installed anymore for some reason. I recently "upgraded" to Android 11 and TWRP isn't available for Android 11 yet, so gotta figure out a way to get Magisk reinstalled without TWRP.
I reviewed how to extra a boot.img from the latest firmware, put it on the phone, had Magisk do it's thing with it, then flash it using fastboot, but still it's acting like I didn't flash it.
The phone seems to think it still has root, so I think something Magisk is still installed, but every time I load Magisk, it says "Magisk was denied Superuser rights"
Someone, please help. Thank you!
