how do we test the microphones? how do we know which app uses which microphone?
in my case, the mic starts working after 10-30 seconds in the call (sorter if I start the call, longer if I receive)
Whatsapp and audio recorder work fine but google assistant and shazam are deaf
I tried resetting the phone and starting in safe mode to no avail
test all microphones with my Huawei app. Some apps use one of the left or right microphones at the bottom. My mate 10 pro, the bottom one had the microphone on the left broken. That's how I know.
thank you, recording from the bottom mic does not work, still don't understand why it works in call after 10 seconds or so (switch to the top one?).
I have The same problem. And it started after update to emui 11. If its a hardware problem IT should happen Evan after IT stars working. Im trying to reflash my device but i had no luck. Erecovery stops AT 19% download. Fastboot HiSuite says device its not supported.
problem is 100% your bottom (main) mic. The top mic kicks in about 10 seconds into the call and that's how they will start hearing you. If you start the call in speaker I'm sure it works perfectly. I have changed this on my p30 using a part from [email protected], and can confirm it works.
I have the same problem with the microphone on my P30 Pro. Does that mean that all applications (camera, voice recorder, whatsApp, loudspeaker ...) use the upper microphone? The microphone below is for calls only? When I answer normally, the microphone turns on in 5 seconds. And when I answer the loudspeaker, the microphone works immediately. When I used apps to record conversations, nothing is heard. Neither I nor the caller. I tested everything through the My Huawei app, and it only reports an error for that main microphone. If I replace the main microphone, will the problem go away or is it a software error?
Having issues with the lower microphone that's been listed all over the net, ie delay in hearing me when answering calls and google assistant not hearing me.
Two lower sim/memory/microphone boards later still didn't fix it. For me swapping out the USB ribbon connector has cured it. Just in case this helps someone.

P30 Pro Failed Lower Microphone Issue - Workaround possible?
I really like my P30 Pro but this last week callers have been complaining they can't hear me all of the call. It seems to be this happens for the first 10-15 seconds of the call and then sporadically throughout the call. I have searched the...

In my case I replaced micro PCB only but does not work. Will try replacing USC charging (and more) flex and post the result on that post.

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a problem. During any call my mic goes off. I can hear the other person but they can't hear me. I've already gave a factory reset, I've already changed the firmware but the problem remains in any firmware. I've tried to use the mic in other applications such as a voice recorder, google search, swype, and they all captured the sound perfectly. The microphone works fine except in telephone app. Samsung said that I have to change the main board. But it is barely new. Besides that this doesn't sounds like a hardware problem...Does anyone have any insight about this issue or how can i get my mic back? Should i recompile the code from telephone app, something like this...?
just for the records... newbie here.
Tks in advance!
there are 2 mics on note. Top and bottom. I think the recorder apps use the top mic and calls use the bottom mic. could be a hardware problem with the mic below.. Not 100% sure though.
Hey folks,
I had the problem with the stock ROM and now I have the similar problem with jackeagels 5.5.1 (SM-G800F).
My microphone works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. People I want to call can't hear me. Eventually after a few calls they do. This is a state I don't want to stay in so does one has any idea what the problem could be? A while ago I pulled some dust out of the mic hole (with a needle) but that doesn't seem to be the problem here
Mines always been dust in the hole. Get compressed air can and blast it. Very annoying.
Hey Guys!
I have a similar problem but only when I use the internal mic, the problem does not occur when I use my headset.
Sometimes, the people I'm calling say that they can hear me very quietly.
Mostly, they say that they hear a constant noise or sound like a "bom bom bom" which is in the background. I can't hear this sound myself and as I said it does not occur when the headset is plugged in.
Any help is appreciated!
Regards, Jens
What phone model? What OS?
The main mic is at the bottom, near USB port. Recording a voice note without earphone, of course, works? The mic hole is dirt or blocked somehow?

Thanks for your reply.
It is a G800F with CyanogenMod 13.
I tested the issue after my initial post with the voice recorder in detail.
So the sound is a kind of buzzing like in the early days of mobile phones when you put your phone near a radio and you get an incoming call.
When I record with the voice recorder, then I hear the buzzing. It is stronger when I say something and quiter when I record silence. Then I also made the same test with my headset, and, unfortunately the buzzing also occured. The intensity was bit lower I think but the sound was there.
Unfortunately, I never tested it with the stock rom. Could this problem be related to a software problem? I'm not sure if I backup my CM and install a stock rom for testing...
Thx!
Yeah, the best way to mak sure it's not software is backup and going back to stock. If it still doesn't work then you have a hardware issue almost certainly...
Does anyone has issues using a headset to take calls? I bought a OnePlus 3T last week and while I like the phone, not being able to reliably use headset for calling is a no-go. Here is what's happening...
I have a Panasonic ErgoFit Headphone with Mic/Controller which used to work flawlessly with my Nexus 5 and my wife's HTC One. On my brand new Oneplus 3T, the inline microphone cuts out in the middle of the call.
There are a couple of ways to this happens:
At any random moment during a long running call (more than 2-3 mins), the inline mic will stop working and the person on the other side can't hear anything
If during a call, I switch from the call-screen to another app and come back to the call screen, the mic stops working.
I can usually get the inline-mic working again by trying either one of these, but if that fails I have to stop using the headset:
Toggle the phone speaker on/off
Unplug and re-plug the headset
I like the phone, but reliable calling is must, I attend several long-running conference calls every week and it's quite frustrating when people think you've dropped off. I spoke to support and they told me I should use the official OnePlus headset and that's just not right.
Has anyone faced this issue or know of a fix? I have also documented this on OnePlus forums at https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/inline-microphone-not-working.475852/#post-15460410
Thanks.
Hi,
I have the same issue. did you manage to fix it?
Most of my phone calls on this device have been pretty bad.
Most people tell me to turn off handsfree or "Hey! Talk louder!".
I phoned myself on a friend's phone and I herd my voice quite clear and whatsapp audios and recordings work perfectly.
Also when in call plugging in a headset and using the external microphone instantly fixes all problems.
I've made sure I'm not covering any microphone when holding the phone (only one next to charger port right?).
I'm really confused also because I've used 5.1.1 to 7.0 and this problem has persisted indicating it's hardware related.
Try shining a bright light in the hole, look with a magnifying glass. Do you see any junk in there? You ought to be able to see a mesh screen (probably dusty / covered in fuzz). AoN

Put the phone in safe mode and check how the microphone works when you call. If you hear perfectly then it's likely to be a problem in the installed applications that have access to the microphone. Need to understand which application creates a microphone problem?
Did you install the same applications after upgrading to android 7 beta that you installed on android 6.01?
Rather yes, since I also did this, but it turned out that some program interferes with the microphone. I had to reconsider the installed applications and to cancel the permissions to access the microphone.
At me the given problem has disappeared ...
I don't think it's dust in the mcrophone since this happens since day one
I'll give this a shot tomorrow! I don't have many apps but I do have some indispensable that may have interfered with the microphone.
I'll report when I have someone I can try this with. Thanks for the tip!

Hi,
I am using S21 Ultra Snapdragon version. I am having issue with my microphone which is adjacent to charger plug. It only works when i put my mouth real close to it or at straight plane. During voice call, the person receiving my call complains of hearing voice in fluctuating volume (sometimes loud sometimes small in seconds). I am on latest firmware. I have already tried cleaning my the hole of microphone. Please help.
Thank you.

If a factory reset doesn't help, it could be a microphone hardware issue. Better to take it to the service centre and get it checked out. Somethings can't be fixed with a software solution
Thank you for your reply. I had tried factory reset but no help.
This phone was left as a gift to me and unfortunately, in my country, the official service center doesnt repair phones from abroad. Also, I had shown this to four technicians. One said its likely software because if mic was damaged it wouldnt receive any noise. Remaining had said it was hardware issue and all of their answers were different.(problem in microphone, problem in IC). Thus, Im quite reluctant to send them for repair.
Could you please help regarding possible faulty hardware. The problem is my phone sends fluctuating volumed voice during call either from sim or messenger.
Thank you
@Qhycliss1: Just interested to know: does the same symptoms occur when you make a voice recording? Eg with the samsung native voice recording app?
That may (or not) exclude microphone HW issues.
Hi and thank you for your reply.
While using official voice recorder, if i keep my mouth near the lower microphone then the voice is excellent. However, if i deviate my mouth by creating an angle (if i face the screen and record) the volume in recording decreases but still i can hear recording.
Of note, when I try loopback test (*#0283#), the rcv_1st mic has muffled sound but when i arch my hand to direct sound from mouth to mic) it is clear. I dont know if this is of any help.

Sounds like a defective microphone to me. Sorry I can't think of a software solution to help.
If I was in your situation and repair was not an option, I'd probably end up use USB headset with mic or Bluetooth earphones for calls. It's not ideal, but don't know what else to suggest.

Thank you for your reply. I had tried that code. There seems to be issue with rcv_1st mic.
