Hi, so I am trying to live stream using PdaNet+, the full version, while playing video games and I am successful at doing it and the stream turns out fine. However, every now and again when I'm playing an online game, PdaNet+ will occasionally disconnect and reconnect, and then I get booted out of my online game and the live stream stops. It seems like PdaNet+ is intentionally disconnecting the connection as if it's being overloaded or something. I have a network capable enough of being able to actually livestream and play games but PdaNet+ won't allow me to.
I have been using pdanet+ for tethering my laptop and i use a lot of data. Pdanet resets the connection every 2gb of data. Maybe That's what you are seeing

Hmm, I was not aware of that. And it very well could be, I use A LOT of data every day so it's possible that the uploading just hits the limit and it resets. Is there a workaround so I can verify this is the issue?
I
do not know about any workaround. I don't stream so doesn't affect me that bad. But I noticed that not all phones can handle that load. Pixel 5 seems decent. Oneplus 6T was the worst, disconnect every 30 seconds or so. Best was Razer 2. Uninterrupted connection for hours.

Yeah, I originally had a Razer 2 and that worked flawlessly. Now I have a Pixel 5 and it can handle it somewhat alright it's just a matter of the streaming that causes it to disconnect and reconnect every so often.

I'm currently running the stock AT&T Rom (Windows Mobile 6.0) without bloatware on my Tilt. I'm running the newest Slingbox (1.6) for Pocket PC.
I currently have 2 "H" signal where I watch my slingplayer, but either my phone or the signal is screwy.
When watching I will have bursts of good framerate, but constant freezing, and choppy playback.
I've tried all sorts of combinations of settings.
I've tried the slingplayer auto optimization, I've set my bit rate to a variety of amounts, and frame rates, as well as with and without the GDI rendering. I've tried just about every combo of settings in the player. I do know that this is not on the slingbox's end though, as it works great from computers when remote viewing..
I've changed my KaiserTweak settings (such as TCP windows size) but none of those improve it.
I've even set my bitrate to the lowest possible it still freezes off and on. I've gotten to the point where I think it must be the phone that is causing this.
I'm surprised I don't see more people with this issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may improve this for me?
what is the lowest bw that slingplayer have? if you are using edge, you'll have to be able to go as low as 40kbps... also, what is your upstream bw limited to? try connecting via wifi & see if you are still having problems.
i use orb to stream my tv tuner & prefer not to waste money on slingplayer...
If you want to see if it's the phone or the signal, plug it into a computer on the network of your SlingBox and use the ActiveSync connection. At least that way, if it works great you know it's a singal/bandwidth issue, and if it's still screwy, you know it's your phone.
Personally, mine ran fine on the AT&T stock Rom for quite a while, and I didn't really notice any issues....but I usually had at least 3 or 4 H bars when I was using it. Right now I'm running a cooked 6.1 rom and it works great on that too, but you should still be able to get decent playback with stock.
Another thing to try (this might sound odd), but try disabling HDSPA. There could be a chance that you actually get better signal with 3G than with H (and 3G is still enough speed for a smooth picture).
Have you tried it on a Wireless LAN? Mine works no problem at all either on 3g or wireless lan.
odd.... I have edge so I dont sling unless I find wifi or travel out of my city to a 3g or better area. But when I was on "H" it was near wifi quality with no hiccups. Try wifi and try ruling out at&t's network.
SlingBox Rules. One of the greatest purchases I've ever made. I like connecting to my friends slingbox in oregon to watch Pac 10 college football games! Go Trojans
Well I connected my phone to my wifi at home (network my box is on) - and it was better, but still not great. Maybe I'm just expecting too much.
Even at home my frame-rate was fairly choppy. I tried Auto optimization, and many variations of bit-rate and other settings (GDI).
Is there any setting in KaiserTweak that may actually slow internet? Such as TCP window size, or resends (Data/Connect)? (Would the GDI/Font Cache help with slingplayer any since it's using GDI rendering?
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. It may just be this spot were I sit at work has a shakey signal strength or something.
If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know - Thanks.
@Valtamr: I did try disabling H once a few weeks back, and for that day I thought it was better, but later it started acting up again. Do you know why H might sometimes be worse?

I'm not really sure why that could be the case. I just know that in certain places I can get a very different level of signal strength between E and H (E is full strength, but only 2 bars of H), so I thought that could possibly also be the case between H and 3G (maybe you could get 4 bars of 3G where you only could get 2 bars of H). So yeah....I don't have a whole lot of knowledge behind that, but I figured it was an easy enough test to try....just trying to help you troubleshoot.
Have you tried it in non full screen? Full screen I get crappy playback but in non full screen its pretty much perfect.

I'm not surprised by that, when you do that it's a smaller resolution - which uses less bandwidth.
I'll try again next work-week (couldn't test today) to see if any of these suggestions helped. At the point I'm assuming that I have some network issues where I sit.
Well, I did try the suggestions a few weeks back but no change. I still assume where I sit at work has some signal issues.
I did notice however that even at home on my wifi my frame-rate was still choppier than it should have been. This I have attributed to the poor video playback on the Tilt.
In any case, I did discover something helpful here: I updated to the official AT&T 6.1 ROM and noticed a drastic improvement. Although the video playback is not where it should be for the phone, it did improve the Slingplayer quality greatly.
I could instantly notice the video looked smoother and more consistent. I now can go 1-2 hours of slingplaying with only 1 or 2 hiccups, and those have been very minor.
I think my earlier troubles were a mix of the phone performance and the signal. But the 6.1 change has really helped out.
I need to try the HTC CA drivers and see if it helps anymore. I did notice that the Samsung Omnia ones "seemed" to help some (back on 6.0) - but I know it was not supposed to, so maybe I just had a lucky streak of good signal or something.
Can't Find Any Info
I am having trouble using Orb on my Tilt. I can watch videos/tv through my wifi but not on the gprs EDGE network. You guys are saying that it's working for you. What am I doing wrong? Every time I click on video or tv channel it opens up WMP and says "paused" then eventually says "The server is busy or is not responding. Try again later." I have tried everything.

Well, I can't speak for Orb.....but yeah, I said streaming video is working for me. What I DIDN'T say is that streaming video is working for me on EDGE. So what are you doing wrong?.....you are trying to get streaming video to work over a connection that is too slow for it. You need to have a decent 3G (preferably HSDPA) connection to be able to use this sort of thing - EDGE simply wasn't made to do what you are trying to do.
I am experiencing the same issue on a brand new Sprint Touch pro with slingplayer 1.6. The phone is an EVDO rev-a device and I still get low framerate, dropping datarate, etc, then sometimes it falls back to the 1x network. I tried wifi connected to a WRT54g and it definitely stabilized but the kbps averaged 245 to 330 at 14 FPS. My Windows xp client averages about 745 kbps on the same internet connection.
I tried it at home where the slingbox truly resides, connected to wifi and there were still low results. I thought for sure it would go over 1000 kbps. There has to be some network throttling going on on Windows Mobile.
Any others out there experiencing this? Any other tweaks that someone else may discovered?
I get the same, tethered to my laptop I get impeccable performance.
The same 3g connection on my tilt stutters on full screen, i generally enable slingstream optimisation and gdi rendering which helps.
There is a new Mobile Client in the pipeline.... although if its a driver issue the tilt is screwed either way, because on my Blue Angel over wifi slingplayer is perfect, as good as a portable tv.
Im assuming its a combination of bad drivers and slingplayer throttling the bandwidth for battery purposes.
Id like to be able to have a slider much like the wifi performance one, because a lot of the time my tilt is externally powered, so power usage is not an issue.
I kinda had this problem when I switched from my 8525 to the tilt, I just switched all the setting back to default and it is pretty much flawless as long as I'm in 3g and also pretty damn good in the edge network as long as I have at least 3 bars. Have you tried reinstalling Slingplayer mobile/ Also make sure you dont have any background application running in your active programs list.
Does anyone else out there have Slingplayer installed on their Captivate? They don't offer any trial version so I shelled out $30 for this piece of software and I can't get it to work. It works fine over WiFi at home, but it won't work right over 3G. I originally posted this issue in the Slingbox forums but I thought I'd repost here since XDA members tend to actually know something about cell phones/technology.
Here is my original post on Slingbox forums: http://answers.slingbox.com/message/13962#13962
Here is the issue:
When I try to play video over 3G it stops after a second or two and plays choppy after that (and I don't mean a little choppy, I mean like audio will come back for a second every minute or two). It used to work fine on my old phones but just to test it, I put my sim card back in my old Tilt 2 and tried out SlingPlayer. I was able to get a steady stream with decent quality and no cut outs. I also went to mobilespeedtest.com and did a 2MB test with my Tilt 2 and got around 1300KBPS. Then, I put the sim back in my Captivate and tried to watch from the exact same spot. It played for the first 2 seconds then the video stopped. The menus still worked so the program wasn't hung or anything, the stream just stopped coming in. I then exited SlingPlayer and loaded up mobilespeedtest.com on my Captivate. On the 2MB test, I got aprox 3500KBPS. Almost 3 times the bandwidth of my Tilt 2 and I coudln't watch the stream at all.
Since the video worked on my Tilt 2, it can't be an issue with my slingbox and router setup at home. Also, my Captivate gets faster download speeds so it can't be an issue related to bandwidth.
It works fine over WiFi when I'm at home, but it refuses to work over 3G. I also got poor results over WiFi from a location outside my home. Seems like it has trouble with going to an external IP address? Again, my slingbox works fine on my other phone and on computers that are outside my network so it can't be a slingbox/router configuration issue. The only device with trouble is the Captivate. Since the slingplayer mobile software got 4.5 stars in the marketplace, I'd imagine its working good on other phones and the issue is with the Captivate/Galaxy S phones. Thoughts?
I have sling player on my captivate and it streams fine over the 3g network. Sometimes it does cut out but thats only when I have really crappy 3g coverage. I wish I had some advice for ya, but I just wanted to write and let you know that it's working great for me over 3g. So the program does work on the captivate without issues. I'm wondering what the issue could be.
Thanks for your reply. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Slingplayer. It still gives me trouble over 3g, regardless of signal strength. Basically, when I turn on SlingPlayer it will stream just fine if I have good 3g signal. But once I change channels, it looses the video stream. I can still hear the audio, but the video freezes and won't comeback until I disconnect and reconnect. Are you able to change channels without issue?
i have sling player working fine on my euro i9000 and it works fine over 3g as long as you have good signal.. i have a feeling that yours is not working well because of at&t limiting the 3g upload speed which also affects downlolad..

I have at&t and it work fine for me also. I guess the only thing i can say is make sure you don't have other stuff in the background working or taking up data
I have it as well.. I have AT&T and zero issues with 3g or wifi... works great.. sometimes it chops up when i first start it but for like 3 seconds then fine.
I also have the Slinglayer working without a problem.
Hi,
I have no problems connecting to my router via WiFi.
However, after the connection has been made, the searching for other networks does not stop. Scanning stops for about 4 seconds, after which it starts scanning again for about 8 seconds. Then after 4 seconds rest this cycle keeps repeating itself. The connection stays the same all the time, so no problem with that. But to me this seems to me an unnecessary load for the battery.
Is this normal, do other tabs have this too?
How can I stop this scanning after the connection has been made?
At my house I have 2 access points, is possible to force connect in the access point I want by default?
Thanks in advance.
The scanning is normal, because if you were to leave the realm of the first AP, then you have the option to connect to an alternate.
This is not a significant drain on the unit, as it is just listening for other channels available.

well something about WIFI does drain the battery significantly, at least compared with my WM phone. I can leave wifi on my Diamond on all night and it barely touches the battery, but the same action on my Overcome Gtab chews up a good 20-30% of the battery.
Thanks for the response Starlog...I was researching this same issue as I am a new gs2 owner and android convert due to the crappy 3.5 inch iphone screen. Just hate seeing that search going when I am connected to the only device I will ever use at home. Not worried about using another channel. Hate to say it but it doesn't happen with the iphone. But If you say it's inconsequential, than that is good enough for me. thanks again
I am convinced that the scanning is causing break up of music streaming. This only happens when there is scanning. I'm using a Prestigio Miracast.
I'm trying to root my Tab 4 but no luck so far.

I received the internet connection sharing / HTC update a few weeks ago; internet sharing worked great but the battery life was seriously hit. I couldn't find any other bugs though.
Last week I received notification of the Microsoft 7740 update in Zune; it didn't mention specifics of what was being updated and didn't mention any HTC driver updates anywhere. I applied the update and immediately my battery life went back to "normal" HD7 performance (usually the entire day).
However, since this 7740 update I've not been able to get ANY audio-streaming apps to work either on the 3G conneciton or through Wifi. Apps such as 8tracks, Mixtapes, TuneIn radio etc will load as usual, but when I press play they will show only "connecting" constantly; audio will never play, no matter what channel I try or how many times I skip tracks.
Anybody else experiencing this? I've tried streaming music before / after turning on / off Internet Connection Sharing (in case that's triggering it) but it makes no difference. It's a real bummer since I used TuneIn radio a lot.

I've just noticed that Spotify has stopped working on my 7740 HD7. Can't get it to work with wi-fi or 3G.
Alright things are getting a bit weird.
After a bit of testing I've found that when I restart both my HD7 and my Wifi router at the same time, everything works perfectly as normal; streaming audio, internet, etc etc. When I disconnect from WiFi and go on 3G data, streaming is still working.
However, the trigger for problems seems to be internet connection sharing. Once I'm finished using ICS and I have it turned off, and I reboot my phone (or power cycle), I run into connection problems. The Wifi connection remains solid on reboot, but web pages rarely load and email and other live services grind to a halt. When I turn off Wifi, my 3G data works fine. Streaming services are borked completely at this stage though. To get things working again I have to reset my Wifi router.
My theory is that the bug where ICS resets the phones MAC address on the next reboot is confusing my Wifi router, and only a router reboot will fix the problem. This is a total pain in the hole and HTC need to immediately fix their drivers so that my HD7 has a constant MAC address.

This would be sound advice if it had anything to do with our thread.
Any theories on Wifi / data connection issues and streaming audio?
Bought an Urbane yesterday and all works fine except WiFi is very unreliable. How long should it take to go from Bluetooth to a working WiFi connection? Often I see it connect to WiFi and know it has a data connection because I can pull up a web page on a mini browser app, but I can't use Ok Google commands or anything that requires a phone connection without getting the Disconnected error.
Sometimes it will start working after a few minutes. Sometimes it won't work until I get back in Bluetooth range. I've done all of the resetting of the Android Wear app, watch, Google Play Services, etc.
The other issue is that even over Bluetooth, when my phone is on WiFi itself the Ok Google stuff sometimes doesn't work. Again, the phone has a fast Internet connection but the watch apparently can't connect. Turning off WiFi on the phone and going to 4G/LTE makes everything work fine.
Thanks.
Tonight to be sure that everything was clear, I did a factory reset on both my phone (Galaxy S6) and my watch. The first issue seems better - when I walk to the other side of the house, it takes a couple of minutes to realize Bluetooth is gone and then hooks up to WiFi.
However, I'm still having that second issue - if my phone is connected via WiFi I can't do anything on the watch that requires connecting to it (Google Now commands, etc). If I put the phone on LTE, no problem. Strange. Is there a port that needs to be forwarded through the WiFi router or something like that?
Thanks.

Well, I had the same problem and had to open TCP port 5228 in my router. No more problems after that.
