Hey all,
I'm getting a Note 9 soon here. I'm looking for recommendations on screen protectors and whether I should get a case for it. Ideally if I did get a case I'd want something as thin and unobtrusive as possible. I'm generally pretty good with phone and haven't cracked a screen on one yet, but I've also tried to be safe with them. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Hi Do you live in a country where you can make purchases from Amazon? I am not avoiding the question its just that there is a plethora of cases ranging from Samsung's own, that I use, to others from very well known manufacturers. With regard to a screen saver since Samsung went curved screen I have not been able to find a decent screen protector. I just don't bother.

Yeah, I'm in the US, so Amazon is the likely source.
I purchased the Amovo case:
https://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Note-...898636&s=gateway&sprefix=amovo,aps,467&sr=8-3
Mainly because the brown one matches my Metallic Copper Note 9 perfectly. It fits the phone really well and all the holes on the bottom line up exactly as they should. Also has decent coverage around the corners.
I haven't used the wallet very much, but the magnet is very strong and holds the phone solidly in place. The magnet is in the wallet and the phone case has 2 metal strips running down each side. Should work in magnetic car holders. No issues with wireless charging.
I like the iCarez screen protectors:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FMW9Q2B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Lots of holes along the top, but they all lineup really nice. Gives good coverage on the screen and doesn't interfere with the case I'm using. Also, it covers the rounded edges perfectly (some don't and allow dust to get under the protector).
Hope this helps.
I would highly recommend that your purchase the case for your device first, before purchasing a screen protector. So that they will both be compatible with each other.
I've the UAG case from here
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Cases by UAG- Rugged, Slim, & Lightweight – URBAN ARMOR GEAR
https://urbanarmorgear.com/products/plasma-series-galaxy-note-9-case
Been using it since the 1st week I got my note and it's been great! Also, dont know about screen protector as I dont have one. I've 1 designated pocket only for my phone and nothing else. My note 9 has ZERO surface scratches on the screen.
Anyone use the whitestone dome with a note 9? The thing looks impressive, but I'm a little worried about the cost and the "curing" process. Does it damage the screen if it needs to be removed/replaced later?
The Whitestone Dome TGSP has served both the wife and I very well. Since complain about "spidering" of the Loca glue. That has only showed up, after a drop for us.
There is a similar item, that is a bit cheaper on Amazon, that I've read good things about, that I may try next, if the need arises.
Roopose Galaxy Note 9 Screen Protector Tempered Glass,3D
I have seven cases for my Note 9.
UAG Monarch - I don't like the way it feels. It's nothing like the cases UAG originally made.
Spigen clear TPU - I forget the actual name, but it's the one that's flexible. I don't like it. TPU is not my thing any longer.
Spigen Tough Armor - (2) It is grippy and feels good in the hand, seems like it would provide decent drop protection, I just don't like the buttons. They are flush with the side of the case.
Rhinoshield Solid Suit - I use it for weekend or light duty day carry. It's a bit slippery, but is low profile and slides in and out of pocket easily. The volume bottoms are a bit difficult to operate.
Samsung Silicone Cover - It's very grippy, but because of this collects lint and hangs onto it. I would use this for light duty day carry if it weren't for lint and debris sticking to it. It's called "ocean blue" but does not match the ocean blue Note 9. It's more of a grey.
Samsung Rugged Protective Cover - I like this case. It's very grippy, without being tacky and seems like it would provide good drop protection. Some folks thin it's too heavy. It is a bit heavier than other cases, but if I'm not doing a side by side comparison I get used to it. I actually measured this and the Samsung Silicone Cover on the Note 9 on a kitchen scale and the difference was, with Samsung Silicone 8.75 oz
and with Samsung Rugged Protective Cover 9.55 Oz. I use this case for work day carry.

WIRELESS CHARGING
We have 2 wireless chargers, CHOETECH Wireless Charger, Qi Certified Wireless Charging Pad & AUKEY Wireless Charger Qi Certified, Fast Wireless Charging Pad with 10W, 7.5W and 5W Output Levels, both were tested with the following cases. All achieved fast charging with screen off only. What an odd limitation to purposely build in. I was testing in order to see if a wireless charging nav dock is an option, but with no fast charge with screen on, the idea is pointless.
UAG Monarch
Spigen Tough Armor
Spigen clear TPU (I forget the name, it's the one that's flexible)
Rhinoshield Solid Suit
Samsung Silicone Cover
Samsung Rugged Protective Cover
I have not measured each one for thickness but I did measure the Samsung Rugged Protective Cover, which I believe to be the thickest of this bunch. The thickness of the back is approximately 3.6mm.
I've read some Amazon sellers state that their wireless chargers will not work on cases thicker than 4mm.
ETA, since the sun has finally appeared, here in the Pacific Northwest, I have noticed several small scratches on the Whitestone Dome Glass. It's been on my Note 9 for nine months. I don't think I ever noticed as many of any scratches on TGSPs I've used on previous phones.
Spigen Neo Hybrid and Whitestone Dome have been great for me!
stock plastic flip case, the cover can show LED time.
I would probably go for a force case and force glass since they are lifetime guaranteed and not too bulky.
Or a customized toast made one if I come across a nice idea.

Do you have links for force case and force glass?
What is customized toast?
Is that like Cylon toast?
I don't use a screen protector, don't think I really need one. Case, I have a ZeroLemon 10,000. Here are the downsides of the case, though:
No battery calibration - Once your phone battery runs low, you use the case as an external charger. I think this is all battery cases, though since you can't remove the battery and replace it with a larger one. I can go about 3 days without plugging my phone into the wall, though.
No DEX support - Remove the case for this
File Transfer is finicky - Remove the case for this
I haven't tried, but I heard it doesn't support NFC
No Fast Charging support
It's Heavy and Bulky!
The only reason I use it is because of the battery life, and I keep my phone in a bag, anyways. This case will more likely NOT fit in your pants pocket.
Oh, and also, I have large hands. It actually feels great to hold in comparison to just the phone. So, if you have large hands, that'd be another plus, as well.
im using the seidio surface case with holster and the whitestone dome tempered class screen protector.
not cheap but the results are nice.

why are all the picture on the case site low res and renders? its weird....how can one want to buy this based on that?
company has a strange way of presenting its product.
I find most cases get slippery on the sides.
I had speck in the past but it was OK any others that you recommend thanks
From what I've seen so far:
1. Spigen Liquid Air - Seems to have some good grip potential, especially with ridges on the sides. However, the gap around the camera bump is an interesting design choice...
2. Samsung OEM Matte Black Silicone Case - Seems to have a decent grip on the matte finish and very minimal.
3. Pitaka Air or MagEZ Case - While I haven't used them myself, I've heard good things about the grip/feel of the Ipitaka cases.
I'm personally going to try the PItaka MagEZ case when it becomes available (Aug 21st) since I like the idea of having embedded metal so I don't have to stick a scosche metal piece on the back of the case.
Also, just a heads up. According to some initial reviews on the new speck 'grip' cases, they're using a more plastic-feeling material for grips instead of rubberized and people are not happy about it. (I previously used them as well)
I switch phones often, but one thing that remains constant is my Pitaka MagEZ cases. Have purchased well over 10 of them at this point. Wouldn't choose any other thin case

The "Air" series cases generally don't rise above the screen.
They do have a thicker "Pro" series option with a raised lip to protect the screen, bumpers on the corners, etc.

Yes I've seen the one the only concern I've read it's a little difficult to remove the spen.. Your thoughts.
I will never choose Pitaka again.
Edges are rough and the upper part could have covered more
But I especially won't because it damaged my Note 10+ because of a defect in the inside of the case that made a grain of sand sized hole in the back of my phone.
Been using the Zizo Bolt on my Note 10+ for over 6 months. Excellent grip, usability and protection.
Kick stand doubles as a grip; either fully retract/extend it to keep from losing it's pins, if not secured in either position they can work their way out in your pocket! No issues with this case otherwise.
The one for the 20 seems to come with a temper glass screen protector; that may not work so well.
That's not present on the one for the 10.
Presumably you can use it without and substitute one one your choice?
Damn the 20's cam has a big bullseye on it... no likey. Buying a good case for the 10+ was very hard early on, no doubt the 20 U will be harder to protect

you know i never thought trying to find a case was going to leave me so hard pressed. note i do not mind the camera bump one bit. but they could have rounded out the camera hump a bit more. not the corners, but where the surface meets the edges and also they could have slanted the sides a bit more angled. who knows they did pull it off pretty good.
still on the camera bump.
note: with JJNUSA leather case you will be covering the mic on the camera bump. if that is a problem for you look elsewhere for a case.
i have received 200 in incentives to order goodies when i got my phone pre ordered and used it to order a few cases.
cases i ordered:
samsung rugged: bulky, heavy, don't like the texture on the back and flimsy kickstands that shoot off when used
samsung leather case: upgrade from last years, 2g lighter. seamless, but warps at the bottom. good cam protection.
samsun silicon: unsure if food grade safe. and slippery as glass
-other cases-
spigen Rugged Armor: oddly best all tpu case with carbon fiber accents. the back is slippery if trying to reach across the screen. side bumpers have one way slip grip and flimsy. camera is well protected. pen cut out too deep corner exposed but covered. top /bottom bumper good but top may block ear piece. 2g heavier then jjnusa leather
...now my official review of the JJNUSA Handmade Leather Case...
NOTE i used amazon prime
don't let the first pic they have on amazon throw you off, but what bothers me is the video they added to the product and it is of the s20 ultra; the camera lens is so scratched. i am still baffled how they did that. then again we will see in due time, because i can not stand the samsung leather case(which got me hooked on leather cases oddly) it is too slippery. the jjnusa case has tpu sides and saddle leather on back with plastic on the inside that the phone rests on. but i will say the leather on the back is so soft i think it sorta makes up for the lack of suede like the official samsung case has. then again the leather is so thick its' edges pop out the mold a teensy-weensy bit, but i doubt with proper use and not picking at it it will survive for a long time. with the 5% off coupon i also got another 1 usd off(who knows if it was the amazon prime). so for 19.95 it is a steal. most other leather cases are $30+. a steal; why may you say? hold on let me get to the rest of it. if we all remember the lg g4 leather back it was a looker. that was it, because it scratched easily and punctured easily. then we go onto the samsung leather case that scratches easily with minimal show. further more i can not say what that will mean over long term usage with this case from jjnusa. treat it lightly and it should be fine. now back to the leather on the jjnusa case. the leather reminds me of the type you get on a saddle and does not separate from itself. that is a plus. but a minus if the antiquing they use comes off very very easily?, and it does(con or not?) i had a cane that had antiquing and it turned my hands black, but after it leveled out it was fine. you know they always slap so much on to fill in the design that almost certainly more then half they put on will rub off. i have rubbed off some already. hence it would not rub off like wow, i had to use my nail. no way does it show like scratches on the samsung leather case. either way the extra antiquing will no matter what fade away over time and settle down to where it should be. i still think it will look good. at the same time the leather is much more scratch resistant then the latter. and the design and the look really grew on me. now on to the sides. the power button and volume are labeled with symbols and i like it even though i will never look at it. what else i like is that they are tpu like the rest of the sides. the tactile of the buttons are sturdy then again not too stiff not too mushy. then there is a bonus or an achilles heal; you move down the same side as the buttons and find a wrist strap punch out so you can add a wrist strap. have not tested it, seems like it should be worthy of use and not fearing. the bonus is removing the phone from the case, it does not shoot out like it does with the samsung leather case does. still it holds it in better. this is where i tell you that the jjnusa case has way better screen protection that leaves a better feel in the hand. the samsung leather case has a squidgy spongy top and bottom. the bottom is already warped and i never used it; i just put it on a few times and took it off. also a fail for the bottom bumper is the difficulty to remove the spen without nails. the jjnusa case is cut out just right and since it is thinner and more stiffer in a good way you can press your thumb or finger and hear that satisfying click to eject it. with that said the top and bottom bumper are raised higher then the samsung to protect the screen. the samsung case is more flush and flimsy.
i am a happy camper and if it fairs well i will update to 5 stars from 4, but i am really thinking at the price to slap down for another. as we all know leather cases do not last as long as other types
the reason i gave it 4 stars is i never really heard of JJNUSA till i saw them on etsy.com and since they where based in china i thought meh. then i thought to ebay's third party cases and said but leather? does not smell much like leather, oddly that is how saddles with the same type of leather smells. or it could be the antiquing they used and the shipping package. it was not shipped in a box or cheap plastic, it was in a cloth sleeve in a sealed padded envelope. JJNUSA do claim Oregon origins... yeah right etsy.com says ships from china.
i have played around with plenty of cases and phones in cases so it's not like i only have really had the note 20 ultra... just do not get one of them ultra thin all tpu cases. i have one for my lg g4 and only really protects the sides and back. busted the screen.
I was using the pitaka for my note 10+ didn't looked back since then.
Light, strong, nice, wireless charging and NFC works well with the aramid fibre. I have other carbon fibre casing which causes the NFC not to work.
Anyway best part is that the case is so thin and it's compatible with any magnetic mount! This means you do not need to have a separate metal plate on your phone or case, this casing have it embedded inside the case.

Does the Pitaka MagEZ car mount (non wireless charging) work with that case?
They say on their web page that it doesn't, but I would think that it does....
And how did you get yours already?? they have stated that shipping will start only on 7.9.2020

I do not have any pitaka car mount, but I uses this one other magnetic car mount and it works fine, with wireless charging too.
I placed order for my case very early. Perhaps thats why I got it early I guess.

How is the cut along the side of the phone? I have had multiple cases from Pitaka but the on on my Note 10 Plus I couldn't stand and returned . They made the sides a little to short in my opinion and it was difficult to pickup because the edge. Tried the LaterCase and the sides cam up just enough to be comfortable. I want another Pitaka because the magnet and Samsung pay still working with it.

Other MagEZ cases work with the MagEZ car mount, but not the MagEZ case for Note 20 plus. However, their wireless charging car mount does work with MagEZ case for Note 20 Ultra.
Why not get the charging one? It's good to have a little charge while driving.
https://www.ipitaka.com/products/magez-mount-qi-for-s20-ultra-p40-pro
Is the air worth $10 more than the MagEz?
I have the MagEz on my S20 Ultra and rarely use the magnetic feature.
Plus, I think the finer pattern looks better even though the phone is huge.
I've been using the MagEZ case since the Note 8, and have the older Qi charging mount for my car (Not quick charge), and haven't looked back one bit. I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up the MagEZ Mount Qi Desktop, or the MagEZ Juice(Has a detachable Qi charging pack). Now that I look at their site, I might need to upgrade to the mount for the N20U......
They have some great products and even though the case doesn't offer much in the way of serious fall protection, it's very thin and has a great texture to it.

If you don't use the magnetic feature, you may consider the air case. Air case is more expensive because the aramid fiber used to make the case is rarer. By the look, you can see the pattern difference, and the touch is greater. And of course, lighter and thiner, without the magnetic feature.
i would like to see them make it in different colors like they do for the iphones. Also would like to see the heavy duty case they also make for iphones
Just got the Pitaka MagEZ case and it's nice but still wish the sides came up more. Here is it compared to the Spigen slim fit. You can see when you hold the phone with the Pitaka you are holding right on the cases edge. It's super slim so not to big a deal I just feel like it's less surface area and feels like it's going to slip sometimes. I have the Latercase coming soon and will see how that one is.
For me the Pitaka Mag case looks perfect. Mine should be here any day.

You did get the wrong case... air case has no metal plates, no magnetic feature. Sure thing it will fall off from the charging mount. You would need a Mag case, or get some metal strips for the air case.
Received my MagEZ case & car mount. Case is good, very light and slim, might not be super helpful for drops, but for surface level protection it should be good. There is a small amount of lift for setting the phone face down and around the camera. There appears to be a removable insert around the camera hold for the maybe 1 mm lip, but I'm not planning on taking that out, that doesn't appear to be an "intended" feature.
The car mount is good too, it holds on to the phone well
enough, but it has to rest on the camera module to get a snug grip and to charge the phone. The contact point that touches the camera is soft rubbery, so I don't think it'll scratch it, but if some dirt or something gets on there it may? Not sure
I received my complimentary case on Thursday the 17th. Here is my initial review of the Schnail Titan case for the note 20 ultra.
First things first. Here's the pros:
1. It's tough. The edges are tight & hug the phone nicely with no gaps. If you love Otterbox, Supcase, or rugged cases in general, you'll be satisfied with Schnail.
2. No camera bump. Lays nice and smooth.
3. Rubberized sides allow for extra grip with a nice diamond pattern.
4. A sturdy kickstand (Double-edged sword, more info below).
5. USB-C protective cover (I love covers)
6. Easy install (place in frame first, then place into the bottom. Also has the instructions on a sticker).
7. Works with Whitestone Dome SP.
8. Works with wireless charging.
9. Price.
All in all, it's a solid case. I just have a few nitpicks. Call me Petty Roosevelt But:
1. While I love the kickstand, it's hard to pull out and put back it. I still love it though.
2. Ultra petty, but some different colors would be great. I would love this in orange, or blue, or red.
3. It would be awesome if this had a cover for the spen, so it won't fly out when you drop it.
Other than that, I give this case a Major, Major, Major go :good: Will keep using as my daily and recommend.

Totally agree, here is my review that I left on Amazon:
‐---------
This case is an absolute beast. I have no worries about dropping the phone with this bad boy on. If you are looking for something that can take an absolute pounding, this is a great choice.
This case has a plastic rim that first fits around the phone, then slides into the outer shell. The fitment is perfect, the port holes all line up exactly. The charge port cover is a nice feature. Also, the phone lays flat which is a bit of a problem with this phone when using some other cases.
The sides are super grippy. I like how the design elements are all perfectly cut, no poor work here, you can tell the QA process is working well. The kickstand has a locking mechanism on it to ensure the phone doesn't fall when using it, but it's really hard to get back closed. It feels almost like you are going to break it at first, but its pretty robust so it has held up. Way better than a loose kickstand, but something to be aware of. There is a good sized lip at the top and bottom of the case as you can see in one of the pictures of the light gap between the screen and the table. This should help protect the screen in case of a drop on a flat surface.
The buttons work well, and there is a + and - sign on the volume buttons which is a nice touch.
Keep in mind as well that this a large case. It's meant for maximum protection, and achieves that well. No skinny jeans here...this needs a big ol pocket.
Final word: The designer clearly meant to create a case with maximum protection. They achieved this absolutely. The only way you can unintentionally break your phone in this case is if you drop the screen directly on a corner. The name Titan for this case is perfect. The case is huge and the kickstand is a little difficult to get out of lock. This is absolutely a five star product though.

I got mine too, while I love the case and definitely plan on using it daily over my phone, it's a shame that the kickstand is a pain to get out. The first time I had to use the other end of my fork to pop it out, it is that hard to pull out with your fingers!

Does the company even make a holster case for their cases? That case is nice but won't fit in my car vent mounted phone holder due to the case being too wide. Any suggestions?

There is not a screen protector, its a face frame that essentially locks the case onto the phone.

The Schnail case is awesome but if you need a case with the same durability and comes with a holster case look no further than the Unicorn Beetle Pro by Supcase.

This case is an absolute beast. I have no worries about dropping the phone with this bad boy on. If you are looking for something that can take an absolute pounding, this is a great choice.

I will stand with both of these reviews. 100% awesome case. A holster would be awesome too
So much for your thin 20 Ultra.
#brick
I always go for the thinnest and lightest ;}
Just wanted to update the thread with my review. I honestly think this is a beast of a case without feeling like a brick.
This case is an extremely rugged case that doesn't make the Note20 feel like it weighs a ton like some other cases can. This is a standard two-part design. That being an exterior rugged rubber shell and in inner plastic shell that snaps around the phone to provide extra shock protection. I personally did not have any trouble pulling the two halves apart but I also have a lot of experience with these types of cases so your experience with that may vary.
Pros:
1. The external rubber case is solidly built. When you squeeze the case without the phone or inner plastic shell in it, it is *very* hard to squeeze from the side. This is due to a very hard plastic backplate that prevents the case from flexing.
2. The kick stand is a monster. It is a very wide kickstand and once it is fully extended and locked into place, it takes a bit of force to get it to collapse again. To me, this is a pro since I don't have to worry about the kickstand giving out and my phone falling.
3. Installation is very simple. Once you have the inner plastic shell snapped around your phone, slide the phone into the bottom of the case first and then push the top of the phone into the case. It should just pop right in.
4. Phone feels balanced when in this case. The Note20 is a bit top heavy because of the giant camera bump but the case does a nice job of trying to make the phone feel balanced in the hand.
5. The top and bottom of the case flair out ever so slightly to keep the screen off of your desk should you put your phone screen-side down.
6. The volume and power buttons extend ever so slightly from the case to give them a nice tactile feel without being obtrusive.
7. Excellent gripping on the sides of the case and a stylish honeycomb design on the inside that makes its way to the inside of the kickstand.
8. Port cutouts are precision molded. The charger protector port snugly fits inside the case to protect the charge port but it has a nice lip that is easy to pull down on to open it up.
9. The price. For what this case offers the price absolutely cannot be beat. This is a premium product for a budget friendly price.
*Note* I personally cannot comment on screen protector compatibility because I don't have one on. However, in phone case experience past, I'm sure it's fine.
All in all, from now on this company will be my go to choice for phone cases. Also, as an added bonus, a portion of their profits goes to the American Cancer Society.
Way too bulky. But it's a perfect way to ruin the beauty of this phone's design!
I'm looking for real aramid cases so I ask for brands. I bought some that were painted plastic in reality. I know that Pitaka is real aramid, what about Monocarbon? Do you know other brands? I'm from Spain so I need brands shipping to Spain
Thanks!
I think Mous case has it, check it out.
Thanks for the answer! I checked Mous but they do not offer full aramid cases. Pitaka does but do not cover all the body of the phone, the top and the bottom are open and I already had a scratch just there. Also magsafe magnets makes the Samsung wireless chargers to not work properly. I was happy with my Monocarbon case in my S22 but I'm not 100% sure if they make full aramid cases or they are like others just hard plastic with the aramid aparence
Does a case with a closed top and bottom exist?
I have found this case: https://latercase.com/products/galaxy-s23-thin-case
But usually cases that are 100% made out of a hard, non-flexible material (so no TPU or whatever), don't have a closed top and bottom, as they're near impossible to put on your phone.

Closed top, bottom and buttons. I asked them and they told me that they are manufactoring the case for the S23 right now. I expect it to be also all closed but... Monocarbon makes real Aramid? It seems yes but hard to be sure even having the case. It is slimmer than pitaka MagEZ but thicker than Pitaka Air and can be put and taken off

Looks nice but I just ordered the aramid case on aliexpress. I'm not a fan of cases with one large cutout for all the lenses and the led.
I have a Spigen liquid air case now and really like it. If only they'd make magsafe versions as well.

Received it today. It fits really well but it interferes with charging on a Google wireless desk charger so I put my Spigen liquid air case on the phone again. It does start charging but after a couple seconds it stops again. Perhaps the magnetic ring is too small but I don't really know.
I just received this one and I'm very happy. It is magsafe but works with my samsung ultra fast wireless charger duo. It charges fast and the case don't get hot. Covers all the sides except the right side where the volume an power buttons are but is just a little exposed compared with others. As I said, I'm very happy.
