Yes. I patched my boot.img with magisk, then flashed it using "fastboot flash boot_ab magisk_patched(boot.img file name).omg"

Caveat: I bricked my device like many others after unlocking the bootloader and flashing xiaomi.eu ROM. I had to have a authorized EDL account holder flash a factory ROM (in my case I had a China variant flashed with the Global ROM), after which I flashed xiaomi.eu latest stable ROM and then rooted it.

does google pay still work after root?

Seems it was an issue with setting the active slot in the installation script. Solution is described here and since then it looks as if no more bricks occur

And yes, I rooted my device this way although I took the "fastboot flash boot_ab" approach instead of the separate flashing of a and b.

you need to hide Magisk Manager and also Magisk hide Google Play, Play services and Google Services Framework

I flashed it separately on the second attempt for 12.5.3. The first time I tried flashing the patched boot.img I was greeted with an error.

Hi! I have the latest xiaomi eu weekly installed (21.6.23) as well as unofficial twrp.
I would like to root the phone with magisk, but I don't understand a few things.
Magisk manager require patching the boot.img file from the zip firmware.
I can not just simply install magisk zip file in twrp to root mi11 ultra?
If not, I understand that I have to patch the boot.img- but do I have to do it every time I want to install update of the latest xiaomi.eu firmware?
The second question is about data.
Am I loosing the data by rooting the device by this method?
EDIT:
Ok, I managed. So those are the steps that I did:
I unpacked the boot.img from the xiaomi.eu firmware in my phone. Then I patched the file, and copy this file to the adb installation folder of my pc.
Later it's easy- usb debugging needs to be active in developer options, then connect your phone by the cable to your pc, accept usb debugging in your phone, start CMD in the adb folder in your pc and write the command:
fastboot flash boot_ab nameofthefilewhatmagiskgenerated.img
then
fastboot reboot
And done, root works. Data are untouched.

I did it easier, boot into twrp and flash magisk.zip done

Also I'm on official EEA firmware, with original stock recovery, so doesn't matter what rom you use. On xiaomi EU you don't even need adb because you already have twrp injected

Is there anything to worry about when you update the phone while having root access?
Is the following order right?
1) update Rom over twrp and delete dalvik&cache
2)flash magisk.zip again
3)boot into system
Right ?
I have the latest EU Rom 12.5.7...

Just take this bat with decrypted Star twrp 3.5.1
unzip and klick Install-Star.bat
fastboot boot star.img are the commands in there

Can anyone confirm this? There's a new OTA update available for mi max 2 but I'm not updating coz I'm waiting for 72 hours to complete so I can unlock bootloader. I'm kinda worried that if I update my device to miui 9.2 I might have problem unlocking my bootloader. So I'm thinking to unlock my bootloader first & then update my device thru OTA update.
I've got them but don't launch the upgrade because, if I do that, it remove my twrp by re-flashing xioami stock recovery.
I've got a global beta rom, bootloader unlocked, twrp installed and rom rooted.

oh wow, so even with all that ota updates are possible, good to know
flashing twrp isnt a big deal though, just boot into fastboot, connect to pc and input a command, thats it not like u need hours of work to get it done
would be interesting to know if the rom gets unrooted on update.

I don't know if it's just the China model reflashed with the English ROM or what, but it's definitely got an unlocked bootloader and I'm not sure why.

Am I correct in thinking that the update would have reflashed the recovery area and eliminated anything that didn't belong? I put TWRP on it and I'm going to load a stock ROM through TWRP.
I'm wondering whether I've gotten ahead of myself and I should have gone Stock ROM-->TWRP-->Stock ROM with root.
I'm also not sure if the rooted stock ROM will allow me to enable LTE bands just by changing NVRAM settings in QPST. Does anyone know if the bands are blocked in MIUI as well?
I run unlocked boot loader, global stable and Magisk.
Every OTA, I gotta reflash TWRP, and reinstall Magisk, but yeah, I can OTA.

How do you install OTA? from the updater app in the device OR full Rom in twrp?
I just use the updater app, it reboots, and then proceeds to flash and remove TWRP and Magisk.
The only time that I've used TWRP is to flash Magisk.
Just I want. I only need TWRP to flash Magisk to enable use of Titanium Backup Pro and any adsblocker.
So Flashing TWRP via fastboot, then using TWRP flash Magisk. Use mobile as usually and when i update via OTA, reflash TWRP and Magisk, true?
EDIT: After flashing Magisk, flash stock recovery via fastboot so mobile is ready to OTA update. Right?

I dont think so, if you allow replacement of twrp by stock recovery after magisk flashing i think it should be possible install ota using update app. When its done, then reflash twrp and magisk from it.

I have redmi note 11 pro (china) which it's bootloader unlocked and installed global miui rom cause with stock recovery and not rooted so will I receive OTA updates?
And is there anything I should do specifically for this case while updating the phone

Chinese Mi8 to Global Instructions

So you bought a shiny new Chinese model, and want to convert to Global or EU version?
I had bought the Chinese version also, and couldn't find a solid method for converting to the Global or EU ROMs. I was worried i would brick my device like so many others! After finding bits and pieces in lots and lots of xda threads, MIUI forums, and finding some mis-information, i decided to put a working method all in one place!
**WARNING***
I am NOT responsible for anything that goes wrong or you have issues with the information i have provided, it worked for me and proceed at your own risk!
FIRST
Unlock your bootloader locked Chinese version phone! (It's a LONG wait)
see official unlock page here-->http://en.miui.com/thread-246705-1-1.html
After Bootloader Unlock
1.) Download TWRP from the page here-->https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-mi-8-t3837745
-- RENAME YOUR DOWNLOADED RECOVERY FILE TO "recovery.img"
2.) Download the DM Verity Disabler here-->https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=3700668719832238534
3.) Download the Region Fix here-->https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904000068
4.) Download a Global ROM / EU ROM of your choice!
Installing the TWRP Recovery:
Make sure you have a working copy of FASTBOOT on your computer compatible with Mi8 (I used the one in the directory from the Bootloader UNLOCK program)
1.) Copy all of your downloaded files to the Bootloader Unlocker main directory (or a directory with the Fastboot.exe file)
2.) Open a DOS shell prompt on your computer and change the directory to the Bootloader Unlock directory (or Fastboot.exe directory)
3.) Put your phone in to Fastboot Mode (Turn on phone and hold the Volume Down while also holding Power Button)
4.) Connect your phone via USB cable to your computer
5.) In your DOS shell prompt enter this between the quotes "fastboot.exe boot recovery.img"
6.) After your phone boots up with the TWRP, copy the recovery.img file to the main directory of your SDCard
(Your recovery should allow you to open your phones internal storage on your computer)
7.) Install from the TWRP recovery menu (choose IMG file on bottom right, and select the recovery.img from your storage, and choose the Recovery partition to flash to)
8.) After successful TWRP flashing to your recovery partition, Reboot to RECOVERY
Preparing & Flashing Your Downloaded ROM:
1.) Format your data (must be done from the wipe directory where you have to type the word "yes")
2.) after the format, once again reboot to your RECOVERY
3.) Copy your chosen ROM zip file, recovery.img file, Region Fix file, and DM Verity disabler file to your internal phone storage
4.) Install your chosen ROM (flash through TWRP)
5.) Flash your recovery.img file again! (choose IMG file on bottom right of screen, and select the recovery.img from your storage, and choose the Recovery partition to flash to)
6.) Flash the Region Fix file
** Optional of flashing Magisk (v17.1) now if you want **
7.) Flash the DM Verity disabler file
8.) Format DATA again (this removes all of your file from internal storage, so copy them back if you want after the format is done)
9.) Reboot to SYSTEM and Enjoy!
Some steps may be redundant or not needed, however -i spent countless hours in bootloops, reflashes, testing. This method works, and is what i follow every new ROM i install. I am now on the latest Miui10.8.9.6 Global.
Additional Notes:
DON'T downgrade versions of ROMs (ex, miui10 to 9, or miui9 to 8) Anti-Rollback isn't enabled to brick yet (it's only "1")
If you don't flash the Region fix on a Chinese phone, it will constantly reboot, during initial rom setup or won't even make it that far (wish i knew this before, it would have saved me many hours in bootloops)
If you want to STAY on Chinese rom versions with the bootloader locked, you CAN flash miui Chinese developer edition (ex miui10.8.30) using the internal software updater without issues (i did this while waiting for unlocking delay).

Great job ! A good idea for us
Thanks a lot.
I finally could install miui.eu.
Unfortunately i flash magisk but it doesn't root my phone.
Two questions:
First do i just have to flash magisk and dm verity after?
Then for flash another rom do i have to do all the steps again?

Yes, you have to flash dm verity after magisk. After you are booted, if magisk is installed did you try to update magisk from the app? It worked on global ROM for me.
I would forward all steps again, but up to you. If you report back a shorter method that works j can modify instructions.
I am also working on a fix for the Chinese region that keeps coming back with reboot. I know what needs done, and have fixed mine, i just need to modify the region fix zip.

Thanks for this as it really saves time reading bits of information. I took time to change the ROM as I didn't want to brick my phone. Some knowledgeable people on here will even be annoyed if you ask for clarifications and tell you to read! I basically followed most of the steps mentioned.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi made a stupid rule, which is that you can't lock global roms with chinese phones. Starting with Mi 8.
Is this goin to work for phones already unlocked by seller account? Is it possible to use my account after this procedure?
@HugoYe
I thought it is solution for lock after flash CN -> Global.
@johnny1836
What do you exactly mean by fixing the problem. I'm still trying to find a solution for this. Keeping the BL open is really bothering me, as I am using the Official Global rom.

Help - stuck in bootloop -redmi 9

Hey,
I need HELP.

I've tried to install TWRP and magisk, though something went wrong and I'm now in bootloop. I can get into fastboot but don't know how to continue from this position,
My thoughts that I've tried to install TWRP or magisk that don't fit to my phone.

well your best bet is to download the stock rom and flash it with sp flash tool using the brom bypass, only thing you have to know is which exact miui version you had, otherwise if you have an unlocked bootloader you don't have to worry that much as it will not harm your phone

So, i decided to restore the backup i made just before flashing and here is the drama, it boot directly into TWRP and i can't seem to find my storage anymore (tried file manager)
TWRP also tells me that no OS is installed, please help, i'm desperate
I think the first step is to recover access to internal sdcard, and maybe then i can restore a backup
Thank you !
simply, Fastboot and install official rom using mi flash tool.
thats one of the penalties you'd pay of installing eu rom.

The problem with global is it seems to be greatly outdated (patch from 2021.09, that's a huge security risk to be months backward nowadays, let aside bug correction, new functionnality, etc)

Hi,
there is no TWRP-ROM available for the Ultra - it's still in fastboot-ROM phase.
Flash via fastboot. Unlocking is just needed once until relocking with orig. ROM.
(Optionally) Copy boot.img from ROM-folder to phone.
Use Magisk to patch boot.img
Flash patched boot.img to boot_a and boot_b via fastboot.
Wait until TWRP-compatible-zip's for the Ultra to begin to appear.

In all the 11 Ultra A12 weekly EU ROMs, the format is fastboot only. Just extract the .zip file to a folder on your desktop, connect your phone in fastboot mode, power on and vol down and then click on the update bat file. If your coming from a different branch, click on the update and format bat file ( the bat files will be in the upper most extracted folder). It is a simple as that .

No need to install twrp. It is enough to flashed the patched by Magisk boot.img. What version of miui do you have, 13 or 14?
Already exists a non-TWRP recovery (by @santoshhh000) for Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G (MIUI 14.0.10) (ruby/rubypro). The steps and files are in this link from youtube channel AllTricks. Follow carefully every step in the video.
It is called BEGONIA Recovery Project MIUI v3.7.0 A12.
I have successfuly installed the recovery and later rooted the device (with a inner procedure inside the recovery, based on Magisk) and everything is fine except that the backup operation of the Data partition (excl. storage) inside recovery fails at 80%., aproximately. I hope @santoshhh000 will fix that error soon. Nonetheless I am quite pleased with that recovery as a beginning.
