Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Extended controls updated!
Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?
Hey Guys,
Just picked up note 4 and I've noticed a severe battery drain when using the phone.
On Devik, but only with 30m 33s of screen on time the battery is down to 86%.
I've been greenifying everything I can, but still a drain.
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same?

Only had the issue for the first few hours because of all the downloading it was doing and I wish pushing and pulling a lot from dropbox to my phone using astro. After all the crap was installed and done moving it went to a more normal level. Mine has been unplugged for about five hours now with about the same amount of screen time and a few calls and it's still at 87%.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a real issue with the battery or anything.
I have actually noticed the same thing. I'm guessing that's why the international version of the phone got an update so quickly. Hopefully we get it as well, and it'll be in a flashable .zip
Update isn't due out until the global launch which is the 17th that's probably when it will be released. My battery has been amazing 2.5 hours screen time and only down 30% and I watched 2 hours of ESPN first take

thats good to know..
we all know there is no way to compare or even comment on battery useage the first week or so; it takes that long for the battery to "settle" in, and, of course, until you put the damn phone down for a few hours, which wont even happen the first week, you can't really know how the battery is..Plus, OF COURSE, since no two phones are used exactly the same way, with the exact same programs, the exact same push notifications, and the exact same programs starting up automatically, my battery stats really mean nothing to any one else...
that being said, I am sure there will be dozens of battery threads here within the first few days anyways..
Note 4 Battery Drain is real
All three people I know that have the Note 4 were experiencing the same issue I had with excess battery drain with the always generic "android system" taking more battery than anything else including the screen.
I downloaded an app called "System Tuner" and looked the CPU% for Android system and it was a constant 3-4% when the phone was otherwise idle.
I found a post at http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/80459 and the person was able to address the issue by turning location off, rebooting, turning location on, and rebooting again. After I did this I saw Android system idle at ~0.6% - 1.1% instead. So far I'm getting much better battery life but I'll need to give it some time to know for sure.
Hope this helps!

Note 4
I Had one Note 4, and I charged it twice a day, and not using too much from him.
On battery since 5am and I arrive at 5pm with less than 20%.
At the place that I bought they told me that they had changed some Note 4 to the iPhone 6 Plus because the same situation!
I changed mine too, I Love android, but there is too many problem with Android, and for know I will try one bigger iPhone!
At least this one works for two days...
I love the Note equipments, I had, note 2 Note 3, and Note 4, S2, S3, S4, S5 and too many problems with Samsung, tried LG, but I don't get used to the back keys...I need the front key like Samsung and iPhone to turn on the screen!
One thing that Samsung must to improve is the fingerprint, since the one implemented on the iPhone works way better!
The iOS is way limited, but works way smooth and fast with less hardware! Lets see if I get used to it this week, if not I will return to Note 4 even with that problem...but it is an annoying problem that Samsung should resolve as soon as possible!!!
Anybody else have crazy battery drain after all the updates and the sync process? I thought the both the round LG watches were supposed to have relatively killer battery life compared to the 360, but day 1, I was at 13% after only 8 hours off the charger (screen = always on). I've just done a full reset and resync, so we'll see how day 2 goes.

Try to lower your brightness level. It should help.
What is your current setting?
At brightness level 2 aftet a full day I was at 44% on day 3...

Yeah... something's definitely not right. I'm at 11% after about 8 hours of use. And that's with screen off and brightness set to 2.
Can you tell what your other settings are? Did you turn off WiFI or leave it on "Auto'? What apps have you installed?

I have been off the chargers since 6:45am and am at 51% right now ((4:01pm). Brightness at 2, wifi on, watchface maker, and slumber for android. I have not done anything else special. Maybe try a factory reset and see if that helps
Good Luck,

It is indeed! It took a 2nd factory reset, but it seems to be performing as reasonable levels now. After about 14 hours of charger, Always On screen, WiFi on Auto and pretty heavy notification day (about 200 emails and IMs), I'm just now at 49% battery. That's more like it.
I'm pretty much convinced that a system process or two can get "stuck" when doing a version upgrade in many cases. Doing a factory reset post update seems to always fix the issue.

I'm having similar results as your first run. Was below 15% before I left work. I'm going to try to reset as well.
I had the same exact issue. The first full day I had the watch the battery completely drained in about 8 hours. All my friends at work laughed their asses off on my new watch
Well I went home charged the watch and did a full reset. Today I had the watch from 8am to about 9pm and the battery had 58% left... so definitely reset after all the updates are completed.
The reset itself took almost 30 minutes... is that normal?
Its amazing how quickly the watch charges... in about 15-20 min I had a full charge... I gather its a small battery but still nice to see that.
Yep. It took about 30 minutes for the full reset, including the time it took for all the apps to resync. It's been rock solid for the last 3 days since.
Does anyone know if the navigation battery drain has been fixed in 5.1.1? In 5.0.2 most or all of us are seeing the watch go dead after about a three hour drive.

I still have a Moto 360 on 5.0.2. The navigation battery drain issue is just one more reason I'm thinking of getting the Urbane.
Ah! Sorry... Missed that part. Sounds like 5.1.1 will probably drop before or during Google I/O, so it may be worth sticking it out to see if it helps.
Just a data point. I purchased at the opening gun which isn't long but does add some concern to fact that I've had two random battery drain events during the period. Both times were after the update and I simply recharged and the phone was back to normal battery without any reset. That is with zero apps or market faces installed or used which implies that there is something hanging the watch in the stock firmware.
At the end of the day ( 7am to 10pm) my battery gets down to about 10-15% and thats with the screen off, wifi off and brightness at level 1
I tried a factory reset and now with the same settings i get to around 35%, still an improvement but not the greatest! Any ideas on why this happening / any fixes or settings to turn off? Im thinking of doing a second factory reset as someone said above helped.
Thanks,

Honestly I think that's within the range of acceptability. I can be anywhere from 30-50% after a normal day, depending on usage. I'm convinced that the folks that get 2 full days or more on a single charge basically turn everything off and use mostly stock apps and watchfaces.
Last night, I went from about 7 AM - 1 AM and had about 25% left (always on, brightness 1, wifi auto, step tracking on, etc.). Put it theater mode for sleep tracking app to work, and by 6:45 AM I was at 21%. That's about what I'd expect from these watches at this point.

Yeah I also agree with that, its just that loads of people are saying there getting at least 2 days of use. Was wondering if there was something i was missing!
Ok as you know the phones with the Xynos chip has pretty rubbish battery life but I've found a temp fix until samsung hopefully fix the issue. You won't notice any slow down or compromise the use of your phone.
All it is is set your phone to mid battery save and keep all the settings on but limit the cpu.
You can still play all the latest games without a stutter, you can't tell the cpu is being throttled.
Try it for a day see what you think, I also have Always on Display turned off for extra savings.
Interesting, will give it a try today, been averaging 3h40m for 50% battery usage (Not run it down to 0% yet) so will be able to see if it improves much
Says it has added over 4 hours to my battery life estimate
Thanks for the suggestion, will be testing soon.
My issue with my Exynos S9 is the standby. It's not completely terrible unless I'm in a crowded bar or an area with zero reception, but I can never get it to be good. Even with everything disabled (location, sync, AOD, lots of apps, etc) I can't get it under 1.5% drain per hour. With it all on I can easily hit 5% drain per hour, sometimes more, which is weird, cause the actual SOT doesn't take much more than this; 8-10% when stationary on WiFi, 12-15% when moving on mobile data.
Seriously the SOT on this thing is great (FHD+, haven't tried QHD+ yet). I reckon I could easily hit 7 hours, possibly getting up to 10 if I'm just browsing/watching shows in bed all day. But dear god the standby is driving me nuts.

Standby drain will be higher if your phone is in a pocket, doze only kicks in when the phone is sitting completely still so no sensors are active like gyro etc (unless that has changed in Oreo)
So standby overnight should be significantly better than when you're out and about with it

That's also the consensus I've been seeing elsewhere.
No idea how to fix. Seems that only my HTC 10, which has horrible SOT (drains about 25% per hour) can get standby this good, and yet it's still worse than most other people's.
2.5% per hour on average during the day with location and sync (but not AOD) on is actually good for my S9, yet it's still poor compared to everyone else's it seems. Today, with location and sync off, I'm averaging 1.5% standby drain per hour. AccuBattery staying 86% deep sleep, whereas it's closer to 65% when location/sync are on.
idunnolol, maybe I have poor signal? I'm usually on 2-3 bars. Or maybe an app I use is sucking power? ¯\(°_o)/¯

There's a few people with this drain problem and up to now we're starting to think it might be related to the modem, as with the SIM removed the extra drain is gone
It also looks like it might be related to which region/CSC firmware you have running, I am running the United Kingdom O2U firmware and do not see this extra drain
But this is all theory / guesses right now, nothing solid

Yeah makes sense. I'm in Australia, not sure how to find my firmware version. I'm guessing it's in Software Information? But there are a lot of numbers.
I find the Exynos modems seem a little worse than the Snapdragon ones where I live, though it could just be the specific places where I work and travel.

I think I isolated the issue by disabling extra packages last night, but I don't know which of them. Will see after tonight for sure.
Can you please enable aod (even though it will be turned off between 12-7AM) and the facebook packages for a night? It will help us narrow down the issues.
I used your settings - fb -aod and still had drain.
Will flash the O2 firmware if the drain continues overnight.

Thanks. Would've done it myself, but I want to know if disabling some of the services isolates the issue.
Maybe it's AOD+FB or other issue (that I might've fixed by mistake). Took this post as a reference: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76543514&postcount=49

I've always disabled both tbh, only left FB package manager or whatever it is needed for the GearVR on my S7 for a while when I was using the Gear, but got bored of that and disabled them all, AOD gets disabled straight away, phone definitely cannot be as deep sleeping if that is active, and the screen is using power the whole time too, albeit only the pixels that are lit, but still more than having it 100% off
I tested with AOD on and off on my S7 and got huge overnight drain with it enabled vs off, same throughout the day, the phone couldn't enter Doze fully iirc

I didn't think AOD will drain battery since it's turned off in that interval? I had a OK drain after factory reset with AOD on. So idk what the hell is happening.

I meant when I left it enabled and on the display the whole time, different phone and different version of Android though
Maybe after the factory reset, because the system apps are back to their original versions, drain is OK, then when they update back to the newest the bug is brought back? Or are you updating everything 100% before testing?
Samsung system apps get updated from the Samsung app store too so you'd need to sign into a Samsung account to update those iirc

Hi, I've been using my XZ2 since May, at the beginning it had a screen on time of 5-6 hours, sometimes even 7, but now, i rarely get 5 hours. I've already reseted the device, and only downloaded HALF of my previous apps but it didn't help. Anyone else having problems? Also it drains a lot of juice in the background, and i cant figure it out why its happening, the battery settings is totally useless, the percentages dont add up at all

Use betterbatterystats to look
If you're not on the newest firmware, I would look for an upgrade (and a full wipe)

Thank you, it might help! I'm gonna find out tomorrow!
I normally get between 4-5h SoT over 3-5 day when i use it sparely.
During 1 Day heavy usage i get up to 6-9h SoT. Depending on Screen Brightness and CPU load/app usage
