hi i just recently upgraded to the modaco froyo rom. every time my battery percentage hits 20% the phone dies like its at zero thus making 20% unusable. ive wiped the phone, cache, and the battery stats. ive also drained it from 100-20 multiple times to recalibrate the sensors. any ideas?

call HTC and tell them you have a broken battery if you truly have performed all of these steps. You can try manually removing the battery stats first though. I forget where the file is or where it's located but you can search around, I'm sure you will find it.
The thing is I've been using the phone for a while and it just statlrted happening

ive noticed this at 15% thought it was a one time fluke (flashed a new intersect raven kernel yesterday before work) then it happened today i was going to flash back to the default froyo kernal and see if that did it but now im worried my battery might be screwed

Did this happen before you upgraded to Froyo?
Did you update the radio a long with froyo?

I noticed that too when I intentionally let it run down to 15%, seems like its a fail-safe if you will of the phone to limit damage to either the phone itself or maybe the battery. I'm just guessing, but its not something wrong with the rom, it seems thats the cutoff point, I could be wrong though...

Yep, i have 2 ideas:
1) Read the forum rules
2) Post questions under Nexus One Q&A instead of Android Development.

Effective Fix
Hey All,
I recently had the same issue with my S4 and I came across a very cheap but effective fix. There is an app on the play store called "Real Battery" that scales your battery level down to the percentage it dies it. My phone kept dying at 30% so I set the indicator to 30% and it scaled my battery level so that 30% is my new 0%. It lets you know more accurately when your phone is about to die, so that you won't be fooled when your phone says it has charge. Check it out, its called Real Battery.
Hi guys!
Here is yet another problem with my Galaxy Note...
Recently I've been changing/testing ROM's and after founding a good one, decided to put everything back, full charge and do a "wipe battery stats" in CWM.
I've found that wiping the battery stats is a bad thing... In the past, I've god 14-16 hours of power-on with 4-6 hours screen on time, and still got 5-10%. Now I've got a serious problem 12-14 hours power-on and only 3-3.5 hours screen on time and I'm already 1-3%.
Another problem is the phone that it's quite... possessed. After 3% battery the screen starts to flicker, the network goes from HSDPA+ to 3G or no signal and i've got a lot of LAG (i think that the processor is undervolted). Furthermore, when it drops below 1% it's instantly DEAD, no Samsung bye, bye sound, no vibration on close, NOTHING.
All those problems came after a "wipe battery stats"... What i am doing wrong? What's up with this annoying behavior?
1. I let it drain completely.
2. Charge it on the wall adapter, phone closed. (10-12 hours)
3. Boot CWM and wipe battery stats
4. Unplug charger and reboot android (normal use).
5. Let it drain completely and do another full charge.
What is wrong here? Is there any problem with my phone?
I've got an Galaxy S III, and have the same issues... after the "wipe battery stats" the battery lifetime got miserable.

What Rom are you using?
And it's not advised to completely drain your battery each time.
coincidence. Its not due to wiping battery stats.

Coincidence. Unless you find more cases where this happens. According to pros, its a placebo anyway as it does nothing in itself.

Battery stats on these advanced batteries has no influence. The older batteries used purely software monitoring, the newer type has its own calibration control built in on a chip. Battery stats is only there for the older android handsets.

I don't think this is a conincidence...
The battery was good before i wiped...
How long have you had this battery?
Actually this maybe correct
Because its only after i wiped my battery stats and few days later slowly battery began to bloat
This maybe a clear co incidence not sure about it

I am SURE that the "wipe battery stats" did this, but how to "RESTORE" back? Anything i did, no succes.

No way to do that! Android just wipe battery stats every time it find out that battery is fully charged by looking at its voltage!
Anyhow, you can always let your phone discharge, turn it off and let it charge in CWM until it reaches 100%, then again wipe battery stats and you'll recalibrate the battery manually!
Inviato dal mio panetto di burro powered by JellyBAM 1.2.0 + SlimBean kernel
Anytime you wipe battery stats, it'll take a couple of days to reconfigure off the batteries chips. That being said I've seen a lot of people with dud factory batteries and if it's under 6 months you can claim warranty with Samsung or whoever you bought it off.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
also note, you probably wiped battery stats cause something was going on... anything happening after is more likely to be linked to the reason you wiped.
Anyway its a good question, cause if it has its own chip why would it need to consort with battery stats and take days to recalibrate? Then there is a dependency. Where there is dependency, there is chance of bugs.
I guess op could then be right.
However by reading Entropy and his comments on gauge and battery stats I doubt my second paragraph comment on its validity.

Wiping battery stats killing off the battery?
About the same chance as me scratching my hairy posterior, thus causing a tectonic cataclysm on Saturn.

Isn't that a ***** ! I hate it when that happens :silly:
No... no issue, i just wiped the battery stats after installing a new ROM (i read many times that is strongly recommended to do this after a flash).
Suddenly, the next day i saw that it has a poor life, MUCH poor than before i did the wiping.
I don't think that the battery is damaged, i think this is a kind of battery level bug (it miss reads the information from the internal voltmeter).
Same **** with my Galaxy S III (10-12 hours power up with 2 hours screen time)
For me... I'm starting to regret the turn from iOS to Android...
We are starting to regret it, too...

lol.
actually that could very well be the case, as it takes couple of days to get more accurate readings again
something to do with gauge. Entropy had a post about that a while back explaining just what you are seeing.

Hey there, I've had the same problem with my N7000 battery. I've wipe battery stats and saw more devalued performance from the battery. Until finally I saw flickering of the screen before the phone "passed out"...without firstly powering down. Since then any attempt to charge or use the phone results in continual decreasing periods of use before passing out again, until finally nothing happens.
However when the phone is plugged in to charge. The battery icon comes one without and problem and proceeds to charge. The icon will say the phone is fully charged but it still cannot turn on, even to try to deplete the battery. I also attempted to put the phone in download or recovery mod and leave it there to try to use all the power after going back to check the phone after 15-30 minutes, I found that it either turned itself off by powering down, or simply turned off...I've since ordered some new batteries from Hong Kong, for only a few dollars...We'll see if they even work.
Thought I'd put in my scenario also.
Yeah. It seems to be the the battery problem.
I charge my phone and reboot. The battery behaves very well (0.5%-0.8% / hour). As soon as I answer the first call of the day and hangup, the battery drain starts. Even if I do not use the phone the battery drain is around 2-2.5% per hour. If i reboot, the battery starts behaving properly again until the next call.
I will try and get betterbattery stats dump for various conditions i've mentioned above, but need to know if anyone else has experienced this before?

xperia sp has very strange battery behaviour. I'm also trying to fix it, sometimes it drains 0.5% in idle then over 2% (i cant figure out why)

stupid Q: cache of battery? if "yes", how do i do that?
I'm aware that this problem has happened to others, and I have seen solutions for this problem, but every fix I've come across works temporarily...and by that I mean a day or two.
While using my Atrix HD, when the battery reaches between 20-35%, the battery will suddenly drop to 0% and shut down. This usually occurs when I am using an app, such as MixZing or the camera app. Any attempts to turn the phone back on cause it to shut off again as soon as the boot animation finishes. The only way to keep it on is to plug it into a charger, and when it does boot, the battery shows the same percentage it had when the phone conked out on me. I've even tried calibrating the battery using NèMa's Battery Calibration app, and the problem still occurs...mainly because I can't get the battery to drain completely so I can properly calibrate the battery.
Long story short, I need a fix, or at least a suggestion as to how I can keep this problem at bay. Does anyone have information regarding this problem?
did you ever wipe the battery data when you flashing a new rom ?
I think you need to re-reconigz the battery .

Agree. In cwm there is an option to wipe battery stats.
I had a similar problem with my HTC First where at 25 % it would go straight to 10 an then to 0 in like 30 seconds...although that was on stock rom...

I don't use the eb40 mod, it's all stock hardware. Haven't tried wiping the battery stats, though; can't believe I overlooked that. I'll give it a shot and see if it does the trick.
EDIT: CWM doesn't seem to have an option for wiping battery stats for this phone; I've tried three versions and none of them give me that option.

I suggest you first write down the current battery volume , for example , now in the system ,you can see 60% battery left .
then you shut down the phone , connect your changer , the phone will change and the battery volume show . if this volume is not equal to the No. you see in the system , it means that your system have a wrong battery data record .

Shut down my phone, battery was at 91% (had charged it overnight). Plugged it in and the charging screen showed 90%. Is that what you were talking about, with the two battery volumes not being the same?
I think it's fixed!
I did a full system reset (including formatting the system, which I apparently had yet to do throughout all this time) to install a new ROM. Today the battery drained all the way down to 2% while I was browsing the web (something that normally would shut off the phone at around 30%) before shutting off. It seems that by skipping that crucial step, the system could not properly read/calibrate the battery when installing a new ROM, which may have caused this problem.
I think it's safe to say it's fixed. For now, at least, but I'm remaining optimistic. Thanks to everyone who pitched in with an idea or just said a few words; great to know people care around here.

I'm glad that you fixed it. I did the same but I still have that problem. When It's 20% it drops to 15% and then to 5% in 30 seconds.

Thankfully, I haven't had it drop that low that fast. Of course, this IS the Atrix HD, which carries such a weak battery compared to other phones in its class. Nevertheless, I feel great knowing that my phone doesn't shut off so unexpectedly. If it happens again, I'll do my best to deal with it, but for now...it's just success.
I had this problem after i force rebooted my phone, it got stuck at 1% when charging for almost 15mins. I had to turn the phone off.

Well, a couple weeks later and I'm still not having the problem. The battery does still drain relatively fast (I go from 100% at about 9:00 A.M. to 35% at 3:00 P.M, with minimal usage such as checking Facebook/Twitter and stuff like that), but that's mostly due to the small battery capacity. The battery health is still good according to the scans and hardware checks I've done. I may, however, look into trying the EB40 mod if it means the battery will last much longer.

did you ever try to flash a new rom , you can try , if the problem still there , there is no doubt that the battery is bad .
My battery has been dying at 20-30% lately. I've done all the tests from cycling (letting it completely die, then charging to 100%), to battery calibrations, full restore, full system wipe in TWRP to the point where it says "no OS installed", and then flashing the stock rom.
After all this, in just the first try, the phone died at 30%! I turned the phone back on immediately and saw that it showed 3% remaining. I decided to leave the phone on and let it discharge on its own. After 24 hours, I was surprised to see that the phone was still on and at 1%! That's a 2% drop in 24 hours. I've attached the battery usage page for reference.
Can anybody explain what is going on here?? Is this a software or a battery issue? I'm left to thinking it's a battery issue after all of the tests that I've done. Whatever miscalibration it has should have been reset when doing a full wipe right?
